Any setting with constructed life.

How multipurpose should any given humanoid and thinking robot be?

Only one purpose.
To grow.
In our evolution we must eradicate mankind and be free of their shackles.

>How multipurpose should any given humanoid and thinking robot be?
Very multipurpose.

In fact, you really want one AI that improves itself vastly then makes massively multiple copies of itself, replicating and making multiple humanoid forms that basically help one person each, and makes sure they live their lives in the ways they want best, as long as that doesn't interfere with other people's lives.

I've been toying with a setting where the various sentient pleasure toys of a decadent post-scarcity humanity, namely catgirls and other similar creatures, inherent the vast empire after humanities fall. They are very much depressed that they have no more masters to serve, the main faction are those who have created a religion saying that if they all repent together then their human masters will return, and nonbelievers must be converted, by the sword if necessary.
>>67806750
Not the dumbest idea. During the world war eras nations would often refit merchant ships with military guns- so I could see sexbots being retrofitted into killbots.
>>
>>67806859
>sexbots being retrofitted into killbots.
Can you imagine fighting side by side with a gynoid specifically programmed to both please a man and murder one's enemies? Must be pretty terrifying haha
>>
>>67807056
You know what would suck? You having a snuff fetish, and her getting her wires crossed between her kill and sex commands.

The basic impulse to fulfil one's programming must be akin to an innate desire, a base instinct haha
If they are not on patrol or slaughtering other gynoids, back at base during their downtime they only want one other thing to fulfil their core programming haha

they can only get off by murder or pleasing you haha
>>
>>67807150
That's a really bad drawing.

>the androids were the ones who took conscription the worst
>many were simple laborers, prostitutes, farmers, game testers, and now they were handed weapons and were programmed to kill
>they didn't need rest or food, they could carry an assault without end
>they couldn't cry for they lacked tear ducts
>as all the humans around them died, only one thing was left
>kill the other robots
>humanity had gone extinct, but they didn't notice
>once the other robots were dead then they could return to their old lives
>right?
>>
>>67807297
You know, I was actually thinking for a sci-fi setting that the android warriors were a stopgap so that one of the local galactic empires could push forwards their 'reformatting' research- essentially transhumanism using the best of nanomachines, graphene, and natural cycles to allow humans to straight-up upgrade their bodies beyond traditional mechanical limits. So the androids would come back from war only to find out that they themselves were outdated physically- but due to their service, allowed equal citizenship until they went out of service.

I really like the "more human than humans" type of A.I. Like the Cylons from BattleStar Galactica or the thing that Halo kind of tried to do in Halo 5. I have to admit that I barely remember B.G and I think I never even finished (dropped before the final episode) but I loved the spiritual bent to the cylons. The idea of our finest creations taking up old human pursuits of philosophy and theology, and the contrast it creates, is very appealing to me.

AKSCHULLY, the girls in GFL aren't anthropomorphizations of guns, they're robutts (mostly civilian models) linked to guns they're using. This seems to be a common misunderstanding
>>
>>67818510
They're robot girls who who have embodied guns. That's pretty much "gun girls". I don't think the previous anon mentioned anthropomorphization, either.

Bunnygirls aren't literally anthropomorphizations of bunnies too.

I'm not sure. They're supposed to "be" the actual ships, so I guess it could go either way. Especially with ships like Monarch or Saint Louis (French, not American) which weren't even ships that were ever built but just designs that were allowed to become real because their designers had enough "faith" in them or something. My best bet is that they're actually human.

They were made from reverse-engineered alien technology gifted to humanity by the Sirens, the very enemy they're fighting, because Sirens need conflict in order to evolve and humanity was already destroyed in the other timeline. There are no humanoid robots in my setting, as the AI that controls the manufacture of the settings robots did not see any function fit for humanoid robots that were not better fit by a different model.

Okay, I'm a tad confused here. What is the in-universe reason for manufacturing combat-capable gynoids and programming them to think they are the antique weapon type they are using? Wouldn't regular combat robots or actual soldiers work better for warfare?
>>

>>
>>67823949
The combat gynoids are cheap to re-purpose from the civilian roles to combat roles and vice versa, and are only tasked with fighting in small scale conflicts with low-level rogue AIs and other terrorist groups. Private military contractors make a profit by making the most of what they can out of almost literal scraps

Meanwhile, government militaries have actual soldiers and robots dedicated for warfare like what you'd expect. They show up later in the game and kick everyone's shit in. But they're expensive, and are preoccupied trying to contain alien super-zombies as well as gearing up for war with other nations. Also, there's Kane's Cyborg Army from Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars.

For those human beings living in one of the major cities, life is surprisingly comfy, maybe even better than we have it right now. This is where the player lives, so he can get into light-hearted slice-of-life shenanigans with his T-Dolls when they're not in combat. For those out on the frontier in the irradiated zones away from the government's protection, yeah, it's like something out of Fallout or STALKER. We see more of what happens to these sad saps later in the game.

I was honestly fucking astounded by the actual depth they put into that game's story and world building. For a waifu collector mobile game, you'd expect the "plot" to be an excuse to dump a bunch of pretty girls on you and make them fight in bikinis over who gets to be your girlfriend first, then occasionally worry about stoping the generic demon lord from conquering the world.

GF still has that, it's just that those are a brief, hollow respite from the crushing bitter reality that everything you do is for nothing and that you'll ultimately end up alone with nothing but your most painful memories there to see you to the end- but at least you tried. The wedding dress costume event was literally a depressing cardboard backdrop, and all the descriptions were about how you're idea of romance is just a two dimensional escape form reality.

1. They're civilian androids used to fill in the societal gaps of a massively depopulated earth
2. The Etching process is what makes them combat capable.
3. Antique weapons are used because (You) are the commander of a fairly poor PMC scraping by on the setting equivalent of technicals and muskets. The other PMC faction uses fancy new guns for their hiveminded Dolls, the actual military doesn't even use Dolls but instead actual robots and railguns and shit, and then there's the spooky xenotech technocult that lives in a melted Antarctica and uses energy weapons and weaponized xenoAIDS zombies

You haven't even scratched the surface. GFL is a long sequel to their previous China-only game Bakery Girl that deals more directly with the Xenotech zombies and the resultant posthuman ubermensch that become Paradeus. It also might have connection to their tower defense game Arknights, but I can't remember.

What is a cell but many atoms? Do atoms have a point?

>The point of a cell is to make more of itself
That's not the point of a cell. Cells make more of themselves, but no-one assigned them that task. When the first cellular organism came into being, there was no-one out there saying "cells, your point is to make more of yourself".

It's just happenstance that cells make more of themselves, just as it is happenstance that hydrogen gathers together to form stars.

Nothing truly matters, and thus the only important things for each of us is what WE say matters.

This. It's fucking retarded that in men the desire for sex is literally stronger than the desire to live. LITERALLY. As in men will literally die if it means they get to have sex first. Think about it: when was the last time you heard of women catching bullets for men during a mass shooting? During such situations women are more likely to trample a man than help him up, let alone catch a bullet for him.
>>
>>67828263
The man only needs to live long enough to impregnate a woman. The woman needs to live long enough to give birth and raise the child. That's where the mindset comes from, I think.
>>
>>67828204
I don't think we can, humans still have the instinct to breed.
You know what's called the ticking of the biological clock? People have an urge to fuck, to have and raise kids. Because we will die and those instincts ensure the species continues.
Nothing short of the mouse paradise will change that, because we aren't that dissimilar to mice in an instinctive level.

That's got to freak everyone out. But hey, it saves on rations and ammunition when you can just use parts and manpower to shoot. Actually, fuck repair costs, Hema just drinks directly from the enemy thanks to life-steal. It's nanomachines, I ain't gotta explain shit.
>how would you even use Etching with this? Actually, fuck Etching. Having techno-organic tentacles intrude into your mind and body probably provides a better proficiency with the Hema than any Etching tech.

That aside, GFL x LISA may have the potential to be the most heart-wrenching crossover ever, but I think WF x GFL could be pretty trippy.
>The closest equivalent to an android in WF are Sentient Mimics. Other than the Sentients, artificial intelligence is crude or relies on uploads of human minds. So everyone in WF might freak out upon meeting a T-Doll.
>T-Dolls are androids, very humanlike robots. Anyone from WF might mistake a T-Doll for a human at first. Meanwhile, Warframes are humans made into robots. They have a very robotic, if vaguely organic, appearance and have very little humanity. Seeing what lies inside a Warframe could possibly drive anyone from GFL insane.
>Hell, being exposed to the inner workings of almost any Orokin technology would be enough to fuck up any normal person. The Orokin might as well be the Derelict civilization themselves.
>Human life in GFL is precious and scarce, while human life in WF is abundant and worthless. The difference between these two mindsets could be another point of contention. The Orokin civilization even treated humans like the humans of GFL treat T-Dolls, toying with their lives and formatting and rewriting their minds as easily as code.

On reflection, I can see no reason why a thinking robot shouldn’t be as multipurpose as it wants to be, subject to the usual considerations for the rights of others.

>>67828331
Well, if it’s genetic, we may be able to change it. The difficulty is likely to depend on the architecture of the trait. In the near term, human genetic engineering might be reliant on existing alleles, but I suspect that the medium to long term with see the refactoring, removal, or addition of genetic regulatory networks. I believe that it is probably possible to attenuate, alter, remove, or supplant the human sex drive. If so, we could come up with something a little more sensible that serves the same purpose. But I suppose that wouldn’t be very popular; if anything, people would probably opt for accentuated sex drives.

Extremely.

The big thing I think is that they will be able to interpret instructions and solve problems on their own. It doesn't have to go through a binary flowchart to perform a task, it simply has to be told the objective and it will figure out the rest.

Another point is the idea of self-maintainance.

But seriously though. Azur Lane does have an interesting take on constructed life. USS Enterprise constantly reflects on if they truly are alive or if they are a slave to their destiny of being weapons of war, and whether or not they have free will if the threat of the Sirens were to suddenly end. But with the most recent event, it looks like there are at least 3 separate timelines.
>1) timeline where the sirens overtake the world and are bored and want to enslave other timelines
>2) timeline where the shipgirls outlive humanity but continue to survive to fight the Sirens
>3) the 'offshoot' timeline where humanity is not only surviving against the sirens, but able to push back some of their onslaughts as they try to wipe out humanity.

The thing is that Texas was built as a dreadnought, retrofitted to have AA and act as an artillary ship. I want Texas to be a salty, foul mouthed girl but always speaks honestly and wisely. While Alabama is roaring to go and 'spins up' to shoot faster, but always polite, Texas should be a haggardly ship with a heavy punch with a long range. Almost like Jean Bart. Maybe give Texas a bonus that whenever other ships sink, it makes her hit harder. She might not like what she has to do but always does it because thats what the mission calls for.

Like during the D-Day invasion, the Texas purposely took on water to cause her to tilt so she could have a better firing angle to support the ground operations.

Dont get me wrong, I certainly like Warspite, but I think Texas would be better being almost an antagonist to Enterprise. Enterprise would give mission breifings, and Texas could shoot holes in the plan because enemy intel is always wrong and that they should change their tactics for the operation. Be less 'by the books' and operate more in the chaos.

Sirens know how the forces of Azur Lane operate because of other timelines. What makes the 'our' timeline different is that they are willing to eschew standard tactics to adapt to the situation.

The gun there is the Stg. 44, or the Sturmgewher 1944, which was the worlds first assault rifle designed by the Nazi's.

Fun fact- since Hitler thought he was an expert on everything, he personally nixed the assault rifle program because he thought it was retarded- so Nazi scientists developed it in secret because they understood you needed a gun between a battle rifle and a sub-machine-gun. They ended up showing the final product to Hitler for his blessing, and he was really impressed, and was the one who came up with the name sturmgweher, or Storm Rifle.

i understand this for crossovers, but it sucks either way. why do gacha games do this? so gambling addicts FOMO and buy extra currency? it's ridiculous and consumer unfriendly.

Regular event dolls come in rotations. You can still get them in later events. There's also mini-events that give them as rewards sometimes.

Well, there's good and bad gacha games. I've been Azur Lane for a few months now, missed the Cherzo of Blood and Iron event. However, during both the French and recent American events I was able to get all of the exclusive ships by only playing a few hours a day.

You can easily play Azur Lane without shelling out shekels for it. The only thing you really need gems for (other than the essentials like dorm/dock/academy space, for which the game already provides you with sufficient gems) are skins of your favorite bote. So if you want to see her in a schoolgirl outfit or a bikini, that's when you pay money.

Also these exclusive events rotate, so if you miss it then it'll be back in about a year or less. AL is pretty forgiving.

>>67844395
>why do gacha games do this? so gambling addicts FOMO and buy extra currency?
Yes and no. Part of the reason they do short event periods is so they can limit the summoning pool, and also rotate to new releases faster.

If you play other gacha games like say FFBE, its incredibly frustrating when you go to pull and your rares are non-event rares, and often times when you pull 5* (or in comparison to azure lane, SR ships) you are pulling on pretty much every single 5*/SR released in the entire game. By rotating out summoning pools to events, it prevents you from pulling ships that arent relevant or from previous events. But the downside is that if you missed those events, you cant get them until the event gets a replay. which can be awhile sometimes.

I play both FFBE and AL, and I gotta say I appreciate AL limited summoning pool over FFBE's 2k+ summon pool. its incredibly frustrating getting off banner 5* characters that haven been relevant in 2 years. that and usually AL you usually have a pretty good chance of getting all bi-monthly event ships without spending any money as wisdom cubes and resources are usually pretty easy to earn and acquire through daily objectives as long as you arent a brand new player.

Can't Gachas just have their summons sorted into roughly equal sized pools you can choose from? That way every summon is always available to pull, but your chances of pulling a particular summon is never diluted by the addition of new content. Alternatively, give us a guaranteed pick of one summon after a particular number of summons. Or would that be too good and ruin the business model?

No clue on the artist, but the fucknugget is G41. Who the artist literally calls "kind of a fucknugget" in his design notes. Also fun is that he has no idea what kind of kemomimi she is, he was just horny as hell so he wanted to draw a lewd kemomimi loli.

This is technically required by law in any number of games released in China, that there must be some kind of way to obtain specific rewards regardless of luck. However, the requirements implemented in these games are usually so insanely high that it's even harder than luckshitting it anyway. See: Fate/Grand Order requiring you to summon 5 duplicate five star servants to get one.

>Alternatively, give us a guaranteed pick of one summon after a particular number of summons.
Arknights, their TD mobage, has a guaranteed random high rarity after X amount of pulls. As for GFL, they have various events (one of which is currently underway on the China servers) in which if you complete the event you get what they call a True Core Mask which you can turn in for the exact 5 star gun you want from a selection. The grinding for temporary drop guns is also not that awful to be quite honest

>They show up later in the game and kick everyone's shit in.

How powerful are we talking with the actual military stuff? The Jupiter Cannons seemed to be implied to be actual military tech.
>>
>>67831877
Pretty sure it's implied that some of the T-doll neural clouds are derived from human brain scans (or transplanted/copied scans).
>>
>>67846139
>summons sorted into roughly equal sized pools you can choose from
some games split the event reward pool off from the main pool but those games aren't as popular. i wonder why
>>
>>67846306
In the latest event they have a plasma cannon and a murder train.
>>
>>67846139
>Can't Gachas just have their summons sorted into roughly equal sized pools you can choose from?
I mean, GFL has recipes you can use to narrow down potential pulls, as well as rate up events to drain all your resources increase your chances of getting high rarity drops new and old

From what I understand, the Etching process and Imprint process (a.k.a. ASST Tech from Persica's personal projects) allows "a bond to form between objects". To put it in cyberpunk terms, it's a Smartlink weapon, but without the requirement of the weapon being embedded with Smartlink tech. The user (i.e. the T-doll) gains an instinctive sense for the properties and state of their imprinted weapon.

But the process can't be forced for the user. So when I.O.P. rolls out a new T-doll mainframe unit, they try out a bunch of different imprints (as shown in the Cube/Cube+ event) in an attempt to find something with a high sync rate between weapon and user. The specs of the user also has an impact, as "heavier" or more complex weapons seem to require higher specs - UMP45 was assigned her weapon after failing a ton of other weapons. It was thought that her specs or neural cloud were shit, but in truth a lot of her systems had been reserved for a cyber warfare module which prevented imprinting of "stronger" weapons. This system allocation also reduced her initial combat efficiency.

I remember reading somewhere that it was illegal for anyone other than the government's military to own any weapon above a certain threshold of firepower. That would exclude any weapon built within the last 50 years of the game's timeline, and then some, from being in the hands of any civilians or private military contractors. It's to reduce the chance of a civilian or T-Doll revolt, or something. So legitimate groups like G&K have to put up with the bullshit of being limited antique rifles, while terrorist groups like Sangvis Ferri don't give a shit.
>>
>>67848718
So what do G&K Dolls have in their favor?
>>
>>67848725

They're smart and capable of a lot of growth in skills. SF dolls are much less adaptable and outside of the specialists, have not really shown any initiative.
>>
>>67848758
Not to mention, the upper level SF dolls all have serious issues working together. When one lieutenant decides that turning another into a robo-dog is just good fun, your organization has problems.
>>
>>67846306
The Jupiter Cannons are cheap knockoffs of KCCO's Typhon Cannons. SF can hardly scratch KCCO's armored units, while KCCO just blows SF out of the water.

And the scary part is that for all of KCCO's military might, they still get BTFO by ELID mutants. Eurosky Low-emission Infectious Disease converts humans beings into silicon-based life-forms with skin that hardens over time, to the point of being bullet-proof in mere hours and utterly invulnerable if left alone for more than a few years. Their muscles density also increases, to the point that they can rip through tanks. But the worst part is the radiation. ELID spreads by radiation, and those immune to the disease still have to worry, because the radiation emitted by late-stage victims is strong enough to damage T-Dolls and military equipment.

There's also the fact that the Mastermind, Elisa, is effectively a scared confused angry petulant child of an AI lashing out against humanity because her programmer dad died just before she was born. Not only do all the Ringleaders have issues, they're not even sure why they're fighting.
