This game is really buggy and has pretty bad performance, but even in this mess, it's still incredibly satisfying to blow off enemy mech parts with a double PPC shot.

It's all about usage. It may only pew twice, but it can also punch twice. I've brought down Awesomes and Banshees with Spiders by just shooting them in the ass and smacking them upside the back of their heads, and they couldn't do anything about it. Well the Awesome kind of can, but Spider TMMs and minimum range makes landing a hit with that RA PPC on something on their ass iffy.

I was going through the unlocked boxes for the KS deciding what to pick (was gonna pledge for Bloodnamed and probably one more addon box) but the fact that every single KS Catalyst has been involved in has apparently been a shitshow is making me reconsider. Tchotchkes like coins and dice aside, is there any reason at all to not just wait until next year when they'll inevitably all be on clearance- if they even get released? The more I look over the project the more it seems like one of those that has added way, way too much shit in stretch goals for a pack of perennial dingleberries like CGL to successfully fulfill it all.
>>
>>67760343
Yes, and it's somehow even more retarded than DA
>>
>>67760644
The question is really, "am I willing to risk getting fucked in order to get mechs sooner and cheaper?"
Personally, I am willing to take the risk, in part because I like one stop shopping, and I can make a solid force for myself, my wife, and still have a clan binary leftover. The extra swag is just a added bonus.
>>

>>

You're not missing much, anon. I swear it's the same thing with a different cover.
>>
>>67762395
Xotl said there's a couple hundred or so changes, including the errata. He put a link up in the OF that shows everything changed besides the usual bits. Some of that's minor formatting and shit, IIRC, but some of it's usability/clarity stuff.
>>
I've heard rumors that some of the dudes at Catalyst are like Mormon or something. Are they like really religious and devoted to their faith and does their values filter through their writing? How does that confer with author fiat and war crimes and all that? I plead ignorance on all this.
>>
>>67762886
Yes, Randall is Mormon. Not sure how many other CGLers are. Doesn't change anything, as far as I know: he was line dev during the launch of the Jihad, and oversaw Herb for the rest of it. Haven't read his actual writing in forever though, so maybe it's there if you know what to look for. Overall doesn't seem to be a big deal.
>>
>>67762938

>>
>>67762395
Apparently they included all the rratas and made some other minor fixes. There's no major changes as far as I know, though.
>>
>>67760644
I dunno, anon. I upped it from Star Captain to Star Colonel to get most everything and easy double forces to finish the rest (plus $60 for ComStar).

I agree it feels like Sembieda's Kickstarter.

Honestly, they should have just had there be successive waves of product- the 16 generic Omnis in the first, then IS Retaliation: 3050 for 16 'Mechs, then do an IS box an a Clan box for each of 3055, 3058, and 3060.

>>
>>67764225

The minis are only available separately as part of the Kickstarter. They're an add-on you can buy.
>>
>>67764243
>The minis are only available separately as part of the Kickstarter.
really? that's a bit lame, given that it's been out since january.
>>
>>67764225
>>67764243
IIRC they also sold them separately in their booth at Gencon. Ironwind might have at least some of them in metal (I think the plan is for all of them to be available through Ironwind eventually), but I haven't really looked into it since I don't order minis through Ironwind (they're an American company so shipping to Europe is super expensive).

We probably won't see the plastics released separately in stores, as it would cost extra money to make a new box set that has the same minis but not the maps and rulebook, and there wouldn't be much to gain from it (the current set is already extremely good value for money, even if you don't use the maps and rulebook at all, so they probably couldn't sell it for much cheaper, and most people either want the map and rules or are fine getting extras even if they don't need it; I just handed the second copy of the rule booklet to a friend who I'm teaching BT to).

He starts off a servant, but with certain expectations that the service rendered will teach him the culture and ways of his captors and allow him to work to freedom.

So yes fetching tea, overseeing a list minute diagnostic of his masters mech, training, and the like are all things a bondsman does while developing Stockholm syndrome towards his new clan and their ways.

Less of a cell, he’s not a prisoner he’s effectively a slave.

He has time off when his master gives it to him.

Still, gotta wonder which of them graduated first (of at all), and what kind of career they had afterwards.

The Spider already has good variants...and even the base ones are more than dangerous in an introtech game. The -7KC is a good spotter, the -7K is pretty nasty combat variant, the -8X and -8Xr are kind of abusive with their 10-hex jump, and the -7Kr is a super annoying way to bring Angel ECM to the field while the -8K can bring a super-accurate headcapper to the field every other turn.

I wouldn't consider them communist, since that's a more specific label, but they're some flavor of socialist or collectivist.
And they have nobility because literally every IS faction in Battletech got to have some form of feudal government. It's just how the setting works. Even the one periphery state that has a president has it be a hereditary position.

>>67767361
IIRC they stated that the random packs may also contain IS mechs, though the odds favor Clans. They're supposed to contain one of the mechs in the initial release, which would be the main box, two Clan stars, and at least on IS lance (the one with Marauder and Archer), possibly another IS lance pack if they have time to get it produced before the initial relase date.

>What, how?

Yep. The "Rhonda's Irregulars" 3051 scenario pack detailed that there was consideration to essentially start "Clan Snord" similar to how the Wolf's Dragoons were, with sibkos of war-orphans and such. If I remember right, they didn't because they lacked the capital and planet to do so, but the real reason is 'why the hell do we need another Walf's Dergoons?'. Remember, this was a WILD time for battletech, and the creation of the clan legitimately nearly killed the game through debt- TRO 3055 HAD to be successful, for instance.

Sad that the Irregulars are gone by the Dark Age. I would think with Interstellar Expeditions they would make a great pairing.

I will try to learn the game with some friends next week.

Could somebody help me making a simple kind of balanced scenario with 1vs1 mech and 1vs1vs1 or 2vs1.
I guess having similar mechs with not too many different weapons is the way to go.
I know the beginner box has some of those but I want to play with heat and all the other rules.

I have all the contents of the a game of armored combat box.
>>
>>67774016
I do not know stuff, sorry. I wish you the best of luck though to get some help and would also like to congratulate you for your good taste in mechs. I like Locusts.
>>
>>67774016
>1v1
Catapult CPLT-C1 vs Thunderbolt TDR-5S
Both units move slow enough for most shots to hit, and they both rely on bracketing for their weapon and heat management. The Catapult has jump jets and more heat sinks, the Thunderbolt has more weapons are armor. Pretty balanced match-up.

>2v1
BattleMaster BLR-1G vs Commando COM-2D and Shadow Hawk SHD-2H
The BattleMaster is a tough opponent, so the Commando and Shadow Hawk have to work together to flank properly and engage when optimal. It'll be a tough fight for the two units, but it's doable.

>1v1v1
Same as the first (Catapult and Thunderbolt) but add a Wolverine WVR-6M. It's lighter, but being one of the best Introtech-level mediums will definitely give it an edge.
>>

Once your players are used to stand-up combat, you can introduce them to Objectives. I usually start throwing combined warfare at them around the same time - it makes units that mounts Machine Guns, Flamers, etc. a lot more appealing to the players.

Scenario A - Capture the Objective
Attacker: Locust LCT-1V, Thunderbolt TDR-7M
Defender: Awesome AWS-9Q, 2 Rifle Foot Platoons

There is a single building that the Locust must stand next to for two consecutive turns before returning to its home edge. Deploy the infantry next to the objective, and the Awesome far from it. Teach the player(s) to use the Thunderbolt to distract/intercept the Awesome (even if it's a losing proposition) while the Locust takes out the infantry with the machine guns and captures the objective.

Also teaches the player(s) about some new technologies and how they work, most notably CASE and double heat sinks.

Counter torpedoes are rather difficult to make, and there hasn't been a mech scale sonic weapon yet. If anything, you'd just want LAMS to kill the torpedoes before they got close.

Scenario B - Headhunting
Attacker: Shadow Hawk SHD-12C, Commando COM-7S, Catapult CPLT-K5
Defender: Wolverine WVR-8C, BattleMaster BLR-K3, Vedette (standard) x2

The goal for the attacker is to mission-kill the BattleMaster with at least one unit surviving. Teaches players about how vehicles work, c3, other engines (light and XL), and more weapon systems.

>>
>>67774917
Considering that the USN has been working on that very same idea since the 1960s and still doesn't have a completely reliable weapon, "simple" doesn't mean "easy." And the Inner Sphere has even less of a need of such a weapon than the US Navy.

>>67774935

>>67774670
Remember that underwater combat is ruled by whoever can cause the most depth checks at the longest ranges. So whoever has the most LRTs and I guess Laser AMS wins. The MRT wouldn't be good because of the abyssal range, plus the MRM to hit and cluster penalties.

Only once they're super advanced. In any campaigns I run I use combined arms for about 75% of the battles - it's just a ton more fun, and it encourages players to be more creative with their unit choices. My escalation usually goes like this:
>1) Infantry
>2) Tanks
>3) VTOLs
>4) Battle Armor
>5) Fighters

With each step up still including units from the previous category. Once I hit the fighter level players are usually comfortable enough with the system that I can point them in the MULs direction, show them where to find some TROs, and tell them to build their own force with a BV cap - but keeping in mind that I'll keep throwing infantry and vehicles at them.

If at that point they can start wrecking the OpFor without me holding back any punches, then they start getting the nasty stuff like MD infantry or ProtoMechs. But even then, it's usually scenario-based stuff. I've only rarely done stand-up games with people I play with - I like GMing, and people like a "fluffier" game.

>>
>>67774769
Not that anon but massed infantry is horrible enough without them ambushing you or being freaky breeki cyborgs. Last in game month of my campaign I set off an uprising so was giving myself 9 friendly infantry platoons for the bot to control and deploying them in the center of the map during raids. Dug in buildings they absorbed a tremendous amount of fire that should have been directed against my mechs. When they moved out of the buildings the enemy bogged down getting plinked by them and falling over when they failed to stomp the infantry underfoot. And that isn't even getting into the horrors that a bunch of field gun platoons can inflict.
>>
>>67775008
And that's why the Blackjack Omni-U is the best defensive underwater 'Mech config (6 chances to hit at long range and harjel on most locations), while the Uller-U is the best offensive config (8 chances to hit, no min range, 6 UMU speed).
>>
>>67775122
>>67774670
>>67774769
Combining both of these discussions, if you want to scare your players, force them to ford a 1-depth river where you've hidden some Undine. Force breach checks with the missiles, then do leg attacks while underwater and impervious to fire from above the waterline. If you cause a 'Mech to fall, it's completely fucked.

Undine can be so, so nasty in a campaign setting.

>Albinism is a genetic defect that would be selected against by scientists due to its downsides and offering no upsides.
There are several bloodhouses that are known for certain genetic quirks, especially in those lines that don't incorporate a lot of outside materials (Fire Mandrills and Blood Spirits come to mind.) So yeah, there might be a bloodname or two that is known to throw the odd case of albinism every few batches, but the scientists would either find workarounds for something so potentially debilitating, or the individuals with albinism would probably be "washed out" at the earliest convenience and reassigned elsewhere. Which isn't to say that people with albinism can't do amazing things in real life, but in the fictional world of the Clans, perceived weakness trumps hidden strength more often than not.

>>

Even if you're using it for the heat, the TSM and stealth feel a little opposed. Still interesting take if only because most people's Fiddler Crabs involve swapping one LL for a Heavy PPC or similar, maybe a blazer if being spicy.

>Wolves held both of their objectives
Hence why it's their "k/d ratio" argument. Held some objectives, lost the war.

It was the combination of heat and the "ghost crab" thing, plus being a little extra hard to hit is nice for a melee mech. I was thinking about fun ways to headcap, and a 45+ ton mech with a claw and TSM was one of them. So naturally I jumped to Crabs.

How okay are you with "custom" Variants of Mechs? I cobbled together a force around 4000BV and managed to squeeze in a Locust Variant that mounts a Tag. This depiction of a Catapult firing Arrow IV is wrong, isn't it?
>>
>>67783352
Um... yeah, probably.
>>
>>67783280
Michael Hasek-Davion held sway over at least a dozen RCTs in his march, including some considered federal units.

The 1st Aragon Borderers, 1st Kittery Borderers, 20th Avalon Hussars, 1st Capellan Dragoons, 1st FedSuns Armored Cavalry, 39th Avalon Hussars, Illician Lancers (4 regiments), and Lexington Combat Groups (3 regiments) all probably would have followed him, as they all had records of either following orders from New Syrtis or had personal ties to him or his wife.

But the Capellan March was also home to the 2nd, 5th, 6th and 7th Crucis Lancers, and the 5th and Assaults Davion Guards, which were ardent Hanse supporters. Plus the 15th Deneb Light Cavalry, 2nd Chisholm Raiders and 3rd Ceti Hussars which I believe were more tied to New Avalon than New Syrtis at that time. Not to mention cadre regiments from NAIS and Albion.

So all-in-all, even if Michael raised the Syrtis Fusiliers, CMM, and other units traditionally bound to the Capellan March, the AFFS still had a solid chunk of federal commands loyal to Hanse to oppose them, and good ones at that.

AtB questions (I love AtB/MekHQ)

1. Do all initial 12 MechWarrior get to be founders? Does it matter? How does it affect the campaign if not all are founders? Or is it just that they get 1 share less? I use the share system

2. Do you have a image/fluff/mechs zip someplace I can use? The original fluff pics are horrible

3. Any sexy portraits besides those ink effect ones?
>>
>>67783628
If those 12 are indeed the founding members, then they are founding members. On the other hand, you may have, say, four founding members and eight others you hired sitting on Outreach for a month, then those eight wouldn't be. The most important bit about founding members is that you can set the "founding members never retire" flag to On in the campaign options, so your colonel doesn't just decide to retire for a lifetime of sipping Timbiqui Dark in a beach lounger at the worst time.
>>
>>67783628
In the Merc Field Manuals, "founders" means something specific about who can influence the unit's initial assets. Dunno if that's what AtB/MekHQ means by it.

The v.3 guide has a link for NEA's portraits- there's legit porn stars in that one. Good, svelt ones.

>Guide does not have link for fluff mech packs

Yeah that's a problem. I have a fluff images collection that I copy and paste each mekHQ installation but I have literally no idea where I got it to begin with anymore.

So the kickstarter gives me a now legally owned copy of Era Report 3052; now that I've technically payed money for it I feel obliged to actually read it.

The Diamond Sharks were tracking to become the Verdigris Barracudas just before REVIVAL. The Jade Falcons were doing to them through Ian Hawker what they later tried doing to the Wolves through Vlad- had a Shark political ally of Elias Crichell in power and restructuring the Clan from within. He yanked freeborns out of all frontline clusters, re-asserted the political supremacy of the warrior caste, and blew up a merchant jumpship that got uppity about it. Operation Revival coming up when it did let him rally the Clan in the face of opposition to this new mainstream Crusader reinvention.

Getting nearly his entire frontline touman killed on Tukayyid let the Sharks make a saving throw of sorts to undo the damage and reclaim independence.

I'm a dipshit, shattered FORTRESS not shattered sphere. Zoom way in on Terra and you'll see the line that surrounds the JF OZ extend around it, with a little tiny thick bump on the far side.

If someone has a PDF editor, delete the marker for Terra and see just what that little bump is and where the CJF line is drawn.

I think it's just the tip of the OZ line wrapping around Terra, since there is no system that close and "southeast" there on any map I could find.

It makes sense. If you want the 3250 SLDF to be the baddest of bad guys (and you do), you put Jade Falcon in charge.

Probably from me. I made a pack a while back but I'm not sure that it'd be kosher to actually put in the guide itself. I'll upload something and link it later today.

Also, as for sprite art, since I don't have great contact info for SpriteAnon, I don't want to put a link to his pack in there unless I can be sure he's fine with it. I can post that here though:

1) Can they only propel a 'mech faster along the bottom of the Death Acid Bath, or do they enable actual swimming?

>>
>>67788055

I, on the other hand, *really* need more light battlemechs. And the packs that are just mediums and up are so much more attractive. I ought to be taking the Blackjack, Wolfhound, Jenner, Panther lance pack, I like those mechs, a double of that is pretty mech a post 3025 Merc lance vs. a Drac light lance, but it's such a "eat your damn vegetables" option when compared against all the others.
>>
>>67787944
1)They let the mech move like a submarine, so they can float at a specific depth or change depth at will, as well as moving around in water without having to make PSRs for every hex.

2)I believe you can put them on anything that can take jump jets (but you can't have JJs and UMU at the same time, which is why omnimechs with hardwired JJs either lack an U configuration or have it geared towards space combat instead).

Each Clan was given two objectives to claim. The Wolves took theirs.

The Falcons and Bears were awarded draws for political reasons, not because they'd actually achieved anything. The Bears did hold one objective but had been pushed out of it and the Falcons were given it because muh k/d ratio.

This was pretty obviously (though not explicitly) done so that they could leave Tukayyid without the shame of "losing" to the IS. The Clans were still bound to the 15-year Truce, but two of the strongest Clans had reasons to smack anyone who deviated from it to keep their pride intact.

Booru under "color" "mech" "tro" or 3055 tro book in OP.

I'm kind of confused how they used the Jap version of the Battlemaster for the 3055 Griffin though. Maybe the Battie lost too much weight and couldn't go to the mech gym and look like it normally did to the other assaults.

I’m planning on getting that same lance pack. They’re all well-armed for their weight, and in lower-BV battles you sometimes need one or two to stay under the points limit without taking a totally useless bug mech. The Valkyrie and Spider are the only other lights in the IS lance packs that are any good in-game (maybe some of the Raven variants, but I’ve had no luck with the main one).

But yeah, it does feel like an eat your veggies thing.

The clans do it too, with a few single mechs here and there and then the Attack Star with three lights, the Striker Star with three (kind of a second-line pack), and the Ad Hoc Star (lots of post-Tukkayid mechs in there).

i think i've came to a decision regarding the lance/star packs

clan command
clan heavy striker
clan fire star
clan heavy star
then possibly buy either the heavy battle star or something else, and that gets me 2 trinaries.

Except there are no Improved UMUs or UMU equivalents to Partial Wings and the like, so your max UMU moment is your walk speed. If you want to go fast underwater, you have to go fast on land, too.
