I say the best thing about these shorts is that the Astartes aren’t fighting incompetent enemies. Those enemies are hyper-competent if anything, and even get the better of the Astartes on a few moments, but the Astartes still prevail through weapons, tactics and all their augmented abilities.

yeah, the guardsmen are really oddly outfitted but not beyond the real of possibility and are fairly well trained and armed.

But they are still just regular humans against superhumans. The biggest threat to the marines (and has been the case in multiple instances) are psykers. Which we see them just turning marines into paste.

Backstory for my main characters for my Voodoo Chaos Warband:

>Houngan Malimak (Sorcerer Lord): Undivided, but makes equal use of aligned Daemons and powers when applicable. Prefers to fight from the middle ranks, away from the worst of the battle but close enough to feed on the souls of the dying and to lend support and summon daemons when needed. Wears the armor of a Sehkmet Terminator he killed as a mark of status and pride, and he bound the shell of the soul that once inhabited it to the armors Machine Spirit. Is secretly terrified because he cannot take the armor off anymore, and he's had to physically cut off the helmet on more than one occasion.

>Baron Chaucer (Chaos Lord): Lord of the entire warband. Has warp-bound oaths from all of his Champions for their allegiance, and commands the respect of an entire chapter. Worships all gods equally (including the Emperor!), and views each god as a route to his own ascension into godhood. Wields two Power Mauls in combat to deadly effect, and has an almost sexual addiction to fire of any kind. Craves Ascension, but given his views on the Emperor the Chaos Gods are unlikely to ever grant him that.

Still working out the details on the rest, and I'll post them later.

>>
>>66733310
No, the marines are just doing clean up duty as the rebellion was already crushed as per the first video.

>>66733373
So what's in the big ole 02 Bubble Vault? The Astropath?
>>
>>66733302
>>66733329
Don't think so.

There are 2 schools as to what is behind the eye lense of a Space Marine, depending on the sources.

Either the actual eye of the SM or a camera, and the SM is simply looking at a display in his own helmet.

It appears the artist represented the latter, which, in my opinion makes sense. So many times we hear about Astartes removing their helmet because of a hit on the eye. But if the lense was fucked and there was no camera, they would simply look through the hole, albeit without eye protection. Instead, if it is a camera, it makes sense to remove the helmet if you can't see shit because the display is fucked.

To me it is a camera.

Honestly, Tallarn would probably be better suited for a sentinel heavy army, that way you can take full advantage of their mobility

I’d consider splitting the brigade into two battalions, allocating some of the tank commanders to each and setting up a Tallarn outrider detachment for all the sentinels if you want to keep the Cadians

I may drop the third basilisk to take a lascannon in every squad.

You're reinventing the wheel that everyone on this board has complained about since 8th dropped. Your army is boring, waac, and unless this is what your local is like, nobody is going to wanna play you after they've seen it once or twice. Probably yourself too after you realize how you play that army, unless you're an old Tau player. There are other more interesting (and still viable) ways to play Guard, they have a solid Codex

>>

Eeeeh not necessarily. GK are all at least psykers. But there's nothing saying they're all über strong in that domain. Chances are it's rather the opposite. Our of a whole squad you get maybe one that is a proper battle psyker, the rest will be at the "I can speak with my mind and potentially throw a fireball when concentrating and pooling my strength with the others" level.

The GK aren't demon slayers because of psyker powers, but rather because of NONE PURER. Hell Crowe is a bit of a meh psyker. Very good novel though.

>how the fuck did the thousand sons lose at prospero.
Literally Magnus' fault. Prospero was probably the most well defended Imperial world next to Terra itself (And later, Cadia), with advanced warning systems as well as psychic prescience. Any fleet trying to invade Prospero would be caught and destroyed by the defense fleet as soon as it left the warp.

Prospero had incredible orbital defenses and more. Its cities were paradise-fortresses backed up by millions of imperial guard and probably the one-for-one strongest Space Marine LEGION.
And what did Magnus do? He literally shut it all down. Shut down all communications. Shut down all advanced warning systems. Ensured that no one was manning their posts when the Imperial fleet came. Prospero was left utterly defenseless. They could have slaughtered the entire censure fleet in orbit, decimated the survivors, even the fucking Custodes on the ground. But instead they were slaughtered wholesale and Prospero was burned to a crisp.

And it was all Magnus' fault.

I'm pretty sure those other marines are dead. The first cqc one charged one who was busy defending himself from first bolters, and then his plasma pistol. The second one got close because both of them had to focus on the first marine, as one had been injured slightly by the bolt pistol. The way the stuff that came out of their heads worked, I think they were twins, and when the first one was killed, it severely weakened the power of the other psyker.
>>
>>66733834
>What made those two cqc marines special and able to not get fucked up in less than a second?

Nothing, it was squad tactics. Part of the squads fires to pin them down, the other two run forward to take them on, they werent special just filling a role. Also we dont know if the two on the second floor exploded or were just pushed aside so they probably survived.

They seem to only be able to use telekinesis with the spine thing powering their shields. I'd say it's power-control balance thing, where the psykers couldn't blast away the CQC marines with the same force without risking injuring themselves or overloading their shields with the blast. So they had to sacrifice power for more precise control.

yeah, in safe places, not in warzones. They are specifically communicating and transmitting messages, not casting lightning bolts at daemon princes while chaos marines are trying to kill you.

> Marine Librarians also have a stratagem representing them working in groups.
In lore, they occasionally work together, but I was more speaking along the lines of how Grey Knights fight, as a squad of psykers casting powers and protecting each other. There are many times in lore where librarians are way from the battlefield and working together to communicate or navigate ships, but rarely do they work in tandem on the battlefield outside of a few instances.

I can use cadians as other regiments, right? Fluff-wise /my guys/ are a strike force commonly tasked to put down planetary rebellions (when PDF can't or are part of the rebellion) in a sector that is beginning to be encroached upon by ++REDACTED++.

They're heavy on veterans, chimeras, and tactical outmaneuvering and light on blobs, heavy armor, and long-range artillery. I was thinking of using Tallarn.

As an aside, what's the status of using Leman Russ Annihilators?

you'd have a point if they were regular humans, but astartes are made for war, born and bred for it.

the only time an astartes stops fighting is when they're dead, and even thats not always the case. Any kind of telekinetic impact sufficient to leave those marines out of the fight for as long as they were is enough force to at minimum mission kill them otherwise they'd have showed back up to support their sergeant. immediately.

Being knocked over wouldn't stop them for long and since they didn't show up again during the approach of the vault the prognosis is grim.

that said the one on the ground floor may have survived as he was much further away from the psykers so him not responding is more understandable.

at least 2 dead marines, possibly 3, not a great showing but its not unexpected against psykers, they're consistently the most dangerous thing a marine can face across most media because even posthuman physiology can't protect from someone smashing reality over his knee and throwing the pieces at you.

only one was focusing, the other had very recently come down with a dire case of bolter to the shoulder and likely couldn't focus on much more than maintaining his shield.

besides as another anon said >>66733974 they may not have been able to do the standard telekinetic shunt attack without endangering each other, psychic powers really aren't known for being easy to control at the best of times, if he tried to project a wall of force against the sergeant he probably would have flattened his partner in the crossfire.

or it could have just been psyker sadism, godlike mind bullet power comes with a tendency to overestimate their own abilities, maybe they wanted the marine to suffer.

who really knows, whats obvious though is that people only show up to approach the vault from the bottom floor, no one comes down from the top.

and not everyone returns.

We won't know until the next one actually comes out but I think the marines up top are dead, the way the scene was shot if he wanted to show them survive the impact he could have.

although I suppose by the same token he could have made their deaths clear so we'll have to see in a year when part 4 is released.

>>
>>66734545
eh, in most showings were astartes have to fight psykers its shown to be a bad matchup for the astartes, this is the whole reason why the null maidens exist.

the emperor made the SoS and the Custodes as a matched pair to fight together because he didn't believe the custodes could fight against paranormal threats like psykers and daemons without a null field to protect them from the physics rape, if the emperor didn't think the custodes should fight psykers solo and specifically sent a massive detachment to help leman bring magnus to justice then I reckon a psyker is the most dangerous thing a marine can fight.

this is reflected both on the tabletop and in the RPG's.

that being said though a marine dying to basic fodder is the kind of thing you only do to show the hubris of the dead marine in question, it reminds me of the scene from helsreach where the hotblooded new marine separates himself from the rest of his squad and gets himself killed by a shoota boy because he had no one to cover him.

eldar have mind war and mirror of minds, they combined with the genestealer cult psychic bomb attack are the most dangerous psykers purely on the level of direct damage because both armies have psychic powers that do damage based on leadership tests and both have a million and one ways to lower their enemies leadership, although in the case of the eldar at least it requires a shit load of settup to pull off a proper bomb.

the eldar also have executioner which is a better smite so if a farseer wants to they can really do a lot of damage, really though the eldars niche is that they're the most consistent psykers.

the only other big gamewinning spell I can think off is a weirdboy using da jump to drop 40 boys directly in front of you then getting stuck in with 'ere we go.

mostly psychic powers are for support and indirect damage, as well as elite sniping.

The thing I hate most about smite was that they made a basic spell with a minimum threshold for use that was low but with an empowered effect that was much more difficult to pull off.

then they gave us a billion different psychic phase dice modifiers across all armies and proceeded to make smite one of three powers in the entire fucking game with an empowered effect.

thats just horribly wasted potential, I'd have liked it if other spells had overcharge effects to separate powerful psykers from weaker ones without having to change their character sheet.

So ep 4 of Astartes shows bolters being able to fire in fully-automatic. Fine. Good, even. But, they show numerous times that they can expend an entire 30 round magazine within a second. Is this true/referenced anywhere? The kick-back of just one bolter shot is massive, let alone 30 in a second. I understand they're spess muhreens and all that. At least the first marine they shown had a very good position for such, having the non-firing hand resting on top of the bolter, forcing it down against the railing, while driving their body forward. But then you see others firing all 30 in a second while standing and not braced, like it's a fuckin' weak sub machinegun.

Absolutely godly episode though.

yes, quite often actually.
>The kick-back of just one bolter shot is massive, let alone 30 in a second.
If you pay attention to the video, right when the marines start shooting at the psykers, they are holding their bolters against the railing by pushing down on them to prevent as much kickback as they can. The marines are also super human and have better control over their rifle's kickback, but there is still kickback. Watch some videos on youtube with rifles getting fired full auto and see that most shooters are still able to keep their rifle in position.
>>
>>66735889

Yes, as I said, the one marine against the railing is doing all they can to handle the kickback, but still as you see them begin firing, they get pushed still. Then soon after you see other marines firing all 30 non-stop and not an issue. Maybe somehow these marines are far better at recoil management than mr.railing.

>>66735946
Someone else who didn't read post and/or watch video properly. One marine gets pushed around while compensating for kickback, while another doesn't compensate and fires it no problem. This isn't even a finer detail of the video, either.

Where? Only part I can think of is firing the bolt pistol, in which case the armor is fighting the shield, the psyker, and the recoil.

Psykers regularly kill marines, even Eldar psykers

Its just that the marines had better tactics and usually durable enough to survive psyker attacks that would kill a regular human.

For god's sake, you don't say that tanks are the scissors to the pysker's paper, do you? Shit isn't that simple. Does anyone else find it a bit stupid that invulns are completely and utterly unassailable except for MWs? A storm shield (never mind a dodge-fluffed ability) stopping everything from volcano cannons to flamers to mortar fire is not only unfluffy, it also results in some balance issues where invulns are the be-all-end-all and anything bigger than chaff lacking them is trash.
