Is this a balanced party?
>>
5 human fighters, if you aren't running that you're probably an SJW.
>>
>>66663213
I haven't seen the show, but from what it looks like to me from left to right
>Wizard
>Paladin
>Rogue
>Druid
>Barbarian
>Ranger
that's a pretty solid party I'd say, especially since it's based on what, 2e AD&D?
>>
>>66663353
1e actually.
Magic-User, Cavalier (upgraded fighter, or could be a paladin if LG), Thief, Acrobat (type of thief), Barbarian (back then it was a fighter subclass), Ranger
>>
>>66663213
They come from a time before balanced parties.
>>
>>66663213
Is that notImoen?
eme want hole.
>>
>>66663213
>having a thief acrobat
>ever
wowee I sure enjoy have a 15% chance of climbing walls! That sure is worth being stuck using a staff as a main weapon and wearing no armor!
>>
>>66663213
Warduke was cool.
>>
>>66663213
Party balance doesn't matter if they don't play well together. If one of them is a chickenshit coward but is expected to serve as a defensive party core and has no weapons to fight with, then you're in trouble. If the players are shit, then they basically don't count, and that leaves the party unbalanced as they stop effectively playing.
>>
>>66663213
why didn't the shield guy just grab sword or club or whatever to have as a weapon?
Just having an invicible shield would make him beastly in melee
>>
>>66664508
Acrobat is THE greatest rpg class of all time.
>>
>>66663433
I've heard that Barbarian didn't actually exist back then, and it was invented by the show.
>>
>>66664541
because he was a big bitch
>>
>>66663213
i have this odd feeling.... i want to pump the wizard full of semen.

how do i fare?
>>
>>66665312

the wizard? The guy in green to the left?
I'm afraid that you have the gays, AND bad taste even for gays.
>>
>>66663213
3 of the characters don't even have a weapon.

That said, balance is for suckers.
>>
>>66664954
Unearthed Arcana had it then it was reprinted in Oriential Adventures (along with the best version of the monk) in 1e.

Barbarian just has changed a lot over the course of D&D, going from a type of fighter who wears less armor and uses simple weapons but hits harder, to being a kit for every class, to being a berserker fighter, to being an entirely own thing in 3e.
>>
>>66663213
No. Cavalier is the only one with an appreciable INT and WIS.
>>
>>66663213

>>
>>66665575
She could bend my staff if you catch my drift
>>
>>66663213

Controller
Defender
Leader
3 Strikers

looks ok to me
>>
>>66664541
Mechanically, in D&D an indestructible shield is just like any other shield in 99% of the situations.
>>
>>66663213
No. They were so low tier and so poorly made, that the DM gave them ridiculously overpowered artifacts to balance everything
>>
>>66664541
The purpose of the shield was to be handled with two hands, in order to generate an impassable dome of force. Eric was supposed to defend the party. He cannot fight for shit.
>>
>>66665506
It appeared first as an official class in one of the mid 60's Dragon Magazines. Was one of the first ones I bought actually.
>>
>>66663433
Then the obvious lack is the cleric. Not really sure when that was invented relative to when the show was made, but lacking healing or primarily supportive magic makes for a very unbalanced party by modern standards.
>>
>>66669975
I guess their advantage is that they're not that often in combat situations and they also have a strength in numbers thing going on.
>>
>>66663213
There was an official booklet of them for 3.0. They are not impressive at all.
>>
>>66665506
I like it better as a kit for every class. But I often see the Ranger, Druid, Barbarian, as the "wild" versions of the more civilized classes, like rogue, cleric, fighter.
>>
>>66663213
A bit light on healing.
>>
What do you think of a new commercial?
https://youtu.be/kC9-bfsNne8
>>
>>66670034
They're kids. What's impressive is that they aren't level 0 commoners.
>>
>>66670012
Their actual strength is being kids in a kid's show and therefore immune to serious injury.
>>

The class itself should be renamed Berserker, and just be turned into a lightly armoured warrior who goes into a berserk rage.

Valid for barbarians, religious zealots, mythological heroes and their aristeia; while also allowing barbarians of other classes.

>>
>>66669975
Pretty sure Clerics were already a thing back then. But I'm guessing that since D&D was already dealing with the whole satanic panic thing TSR wanted to avoid fanning any flames by depicting the worship of non-christian gods. (Don't forget that a bunch of paranoid church moms tried to petition the network to put a disclaimer before each episode of this cartoon to warn people that D&D was linked to murder and suicide.)
>>
>>66677085
Also they never made the final episode where they finally escaped so technically they probably just grew to adulthood and continued adventuring for the rest of their lives in a futile struggle to escape to a world they now only faintly remember.

Though if we go by Baldur's Gate 2 lore Hank and Bobby were both eventually eaten by Tiamat (the fates of the rest are unspecified.)

>>
>>66664508
Her and the blonde guy are the only ones who aren't shit at combat on that show
>>
>>66676907
This. The name Barbarian often gives the player the idea that a Barbarian character needs to be dumb and uncivilized, when it's really just a fighting style. Berserker doesn't have that kind of association and wouldn't incline players to limit themselves.
The Ranger also needs to be renamed. Players tend to associate the Ranger with ranged combat (for obvious reasons) and overlook the fact that the Ranger can also do melee, and really shines in exploration and scouting and will always be second fiddle to the Fighter in both melee and ranged combat. It should be renamed to something like "Hunter" or "Explorer" or something along those lines.
>>
>>66664541
People literally believed D&D was some sort of Satanic ritual back then. Having monsters being slashed by swords, in a children's cartoon, wouldn't sit well with those parents.
It was a bit odd how far it went to avoid showing direct violence. For example, Bobby the Barbarian's primary attack was using his club to cause quakes, or knock things over enemies. Instead of just hitting them with his club.
Though, in the end I think it was for the best, you can't roll for damage in a cartoon. And there was no way they would be able to animate interesting straight-up combat.
>>
>>66686877
Beserkers tend to be seen as always angry shield gnawing nutcases one dirty look from slaughtering the town.

if your going to rename the barbarian I'd prefer a name like brawler or something like that. It's not as cool a name as barbarian but its the only name I can think of right now that doesn't make me think of a Conan knockoff.
>>
>>66663309
Based and redpilled
>>
>>66686490
In the Adventurer's mart in Waukeen's Promenade there are a couple of paintings of Hank and Bobby that can be interacted with.

Hank's reads: "This is a painting of one of a group of young adventurers from long ago, this one a ranger... all of whom were attempting to return to their homeland far away. Word has it they died horribly at the hand of the dragon, Tiamat."

Bobby's reads: "Another painting of a party of young adventurers from long ago, this one a diminutive barbarian. Rumour has it that this barbarian had a pet unicorn smaller than he... also swallowed by Tiamat, it is presumed."

(So yeah, upon further research they all presumably got eaten.)
>>
>>66687295
It was pretty standard to go out of your way to avoid actual depictions of violence in kid's shows back then. (Robots were always a god-send because the could actually show them hitting each other without worrying about logical consequences like blood. Still didn't stop the church moms from screeching about the D&D cartoon being too violent.

I only just recently binged this show and I was completely enchanted by it. It's such a great show that really stands a cut above other 80's cartoon, doing more than just trying to sell toys by Hasbro, but tell a deeper story where good vs evil isn't as black and white as other kids shows would have them believe.

Also Diana the Thiccrobat is best waifu.
>>
>>66687329
>Beserkers tend to be seen as always angry shield gnawing nutcases one dirty look from slaughtering the town.
Which was the point of the berserker class back when it was a thing. A man always on the brink of letting loose and just slaughtering every enemy before him. The black blooded berserkers were the ones who had trouble telling friend from foe iirc.
Meanwhile barbarian was just a thing that anyone except wizards/bards could have that gave you survival skills, some additional proficiencies, magic hatred, and illiteracy.
Wizard couldn't be barbarians due to the illiteracy and magic hate
Bards could be skalds instead.
>>
>>66688520
Maybe they went to confront Tiamat, get sent back home and everyone assumed they just got eaten?
I want to believe!
>>
>>66691804
No anon, they got eaten, nothing nice can ever happen. Only bad things!
>>
>>66686877
Yep. Barbarian should have remained a background or at most a kit. It should never have become a class.
>>
>>66691835
No, they went back and lived happily ever after.
This is a fact, now the only remaining question is who build a ride able to send people into another world and what the fuck is that guy story?
>>
No Cleric hurts, but I guess the Paladin can be the heal bot.
>>
>>66692315
Afair the ending is ambiguous, there is still a lot of villains fucking the world but the kids can return if they want.
>>
>>66689971
If Beserker was a proper class, it would probably vary by "what do you hate?"

So Mage-Slayer Berserkers getting defence against magic while berserk, but also destroy spell books, magic items, or just things that look a bit too wizardy.

Zealot Berserkers hate the unfaithful. They find heretics, go berserk and slay them. They have some level of divine favour, but are obviously not friendly with followers of other faiths.
>>
>>66674739
Is this series actually still popular anywhere or did someone seriously abuse his position to make a life action version of his favorite cartoon?
>>
>>66698067
Brasil. The 80's and 90's kids that watched the cartoon (me included) are now old enough to afford a car (shit is expensive here in HUEland).

The last episode had a script. It was named Requiem, and ended with the kids finding the sarcophagus of Venger, ultimately attoning him, restoring him as a human Paladin. The script/episode ends with him opening the Portal to Earth, the DM saying that even more danger and powerful foes still wander the land and need the help of the kids. It ends in that cliffhanger.

The season would continue, probably using the villain that appeared in the Dungeon At the Heart of Dawn as the new BBEG.

It's honestly one of the weirdest trends in children's television of that era. Especially when you consider that it was being pushed at nearly the same time that the whole anti-drug anti-peer pressure thing was also going out to kids.

Like that must have been extremely confusing simultaneously telling kids "If everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you?" while also showing the contrarian in all of the cartoons constantly being ostracized for disagreeing with the group.

Nobody at Marvel knew if they were going to get a fourth season (they didn't), so the "final episode" was just another episode where the kids are unable to return. Michael Reaves, who wrote many episodes for the show, scripted what he thought should be a fitting ending (attached) but it was never even storyboarded.

Why did they have to come after our escapism? It's things like that that makes me feel like they're actually fanatics or hate driven rather than just political. While I see your point I feel that the main difference is that this current "attack" if I may call it that, is coming from both without aswell as from within.
Now, I'm not against people creating their own political rpgs or vidyagames for an audience of like minded individuals. I am how ever deeply concerned about how many corporations, publishers and journalists whom have started pushing politics into things. There's also the fact that with the expansion of the internet there's been popping up a lot of influencers and "voices" of the "community".

>I am how ever deeply concerned about how many corporations, publishers and journalists whom have started pushing politics into things.

But that's how it's always been. People don't recognise the politics of yesteryear as easily so they don't see politics when it was current politics of that time. Ed Greenwood's Magical Realm is a physical incarnation of the 70s hippie free love thing, White Wolf was screaming about pollution for entire decades, Paranoia is set in an authoritarian police state that comments on the corruption and doublethink of such places etc.

It's like how people think that old music was better. They're looking at it from now, when a lot has been forgotten, instead of how it was at the time.

The main problem is that companies are trying to appease a insanely small community thinking they are a huge % of potential buyers. But they aren't a huge population (just very vocal) and won't ever be pleased ("no women in games" turned into "women in games are being killed in games") and never really wanted to buy anything, just brag about it.
And trying to profit on the unprofitable, some companies are losing their original fanbase and with it, money. Just look the backlash on Star Wars, or Vampire, or Siege of Dragonspear, or X-Person.
Few companies have already learned the false promise of profit and started looking back to a more broad target audience, finally learning that getting woke would them go broke.

Yes and comedy has always been a tool in political conversations. That doesn't stop it being very much a child of the Cold War and its politics. It wasn't until 5th edition when the USSR stopped existing in real life.

Communism has the chance to actually liberate people, especially now that we have the technology to do so. Fascism always destroys itself from the inside out. Germany, Italy, and Spain are all perfect examples. Communism's only failure in history was being thwarted by counter-revolutionaries like Stalin who basically operated as a fascist. The problem with communism really boils down to it's reliance on anarchism to achieve it's goals, which until this point has never been done, but Rojava is proving to be a good early example.

Its somewhat true, for example before russian revolutions peasants were almost slaves, property of landlords. There were ways to got free, but it was risky to do so. So much so, that there weren't much of influential people from lower class. Much of controversial things happens, but as i always remember lines from Posner's autobiography "this woman had a picture of Stalin between pages of Bible, because in past it was impossible to her sons to became a general and scientist", thou Stalins part in it is debatable, but its not like system was only cons.

Communism THE THEORY is an interesting idea that we should always take into consideration when shaping society. Communism THE PRACTICE has several fundamental problems, the largest of which is a hierarchical system that can be hijacked by someone whose primary interest is personal gain, like Stalin, or someone who is just straight-up incompetent, like Mao.
Democracy, ironically, is the same in that it's a great concept, but that actually implementing direct democracy and doing something like, I dunno, having all 300 million Americans vote on the location of the next nuclear waste dump site, would be insane.

This is common narrative, however it always compares certain system to something from the past, which is a complete fallacy. Russia was moving in social mobility quite fast before WW1. And considering the horrendal losses during that war, the disbandment of most class restrictions in 1902's would happen anyway.

>nothing stops people running away from the land
Except the law, that is. Being a run-away serf was a capital offense in Poland and Russia.
Serfdom, at least the early modern version of it in Eastern Europe was a slavery in anything, but name. You were bound to land, couldn't even pay for yourself (and if, then we are talking about company town type of economic trap), couldn't leave and had a work obligation equal to pretty much half your working time. And Russian version was so bad, people escaped from there and stayed in Poland (which also used terrible serfdom), because by comparison, Polish work obligations were fucking walk in a park. Catherina the Great even used the "let's stop escaping serfs from happening" as her argument for first partiation of Poland.

... because?
I mean from the top of my head, the setting is one massive isekai, everyone is either outsider or descendant of outsiders. Wow, so hard to invent excuse, but I guess if you weren't so invested in pointless shit, you couldn't find something to be angry at
>>
>>66730910
Well yes and no, in Commonwealth at least.
First thing first de iure and de facto was two different things. Yes serfs were in shitty legal position but then legal enforcement was nonexistent.
If your serf decided to fuck this and go away what will you do? State will do nothing as it is shit and have more important tasks.
Your only option was to go and catch him yourself, good luck with that. If he came to a city and lived for year then he by law become citizen and by trying to kidnap him you fuck with the city itself. If he decided to find better lord, then good luck fighting him and his friends and their servants.

And let us not forget that 8 days a week of free work (example of extreme serfdom) for lord was per household not person. That gives 2 days a week per working person if we go by 4 people. It is less than modern tax rate of around 40%, even with 10% church tax.
>>
>>66730937
Even if we assume isekai, unless the entire village is of a specific phenotype, they'd rapidly lose said phenotype due to outbreeding. Furthermore, that's not what is being discussed and you know it. Isolated individuals of different races who are also native inhabitants of the culture need a context, otherwise they're just tokenism. That context doesn't even necessarily need to be in-universe, theater production, for example, tend to be fairly appearance-blind in regards to casting unless something specific is called for by the play. It's not some liberal, SJW conspiracy, it's because theater actors are a small labor pool so quality of performance is paramount.
>>
>>66730434
It was inevitable
Normal discussion about the show brought up Nazis
Any mention of Nazis will always spawn a "communism is worse" reply
And that will derail the thread
>>
>>66730910
>which also used terrible serfdom
Actually the importance of serfdom in Poland is overblown by communist period historiography.
Sure, people were tied to land, and could not become nobility.
But at the same time, there was a fixed numer of people who could leave a village (it was usually one person per year) plus you could apply to a local noble to be allowed to leave.
And it should be emphasized it was not such a big problem as it would seem from today's perspective - very rarely people actually wanted to move or travel farther than the immediate surrounding of their place of birth, and it was usually only for a very short period (local town, fair, etc.).
What's more, even if Peasants had way less rights than nobles, they could actually go to a court against them (and we know from preserved court files they sometimes won).
So the whole "exploitation of a peasants by nobles" is a bit of meme.
Case in point: when communists obtained power after WW2, they tried to find "progressive elements" that would fit with marksist theory of clash of classes i.e. peasant revolts. And yet, the best they could come with was Kostak Napierski uprising, which was a local revolt in Polish mountains, which had town-vs-town rivalry undertone (which goes to this day, btw), and was put down by few troops of a local bishop.

tl;dr
Peasant situation in Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth was far from the grim "almost slavery" most books claim it was.

Why not just assume that the city is a bustling metropolis and a hub of commerce and trade, an axis point where people from all over the world go to buy and sell goods and make their fortune? I can easily justify diversity in a fantasy setting. Yes, you'd expect homogeneity once you got out to the sticks, but when most parties are comprised of racially diverse characters of an array of skillsets, it makes little sense to pick that as your starting point for an adventure.
