Dragons are tired, boring, and overused
Yes, so stop making them crap, make them cool. That's how you save a thing from being tired, boring, and overused.
>>66237599Is that thing throwing lightning with its toes?
>>66237629That's not what I meant by "stop making them crap". That's just worse crap.
>>66237757Nice to meet you, Gay. I'm Oleg.
>>66237599>OverusedFucking how? I've been playing RPGs for ten years, and I've encountered a grand total of two dragons, one small drake, and fucking Lofwyr. Despite how quintessential dragons are to fantasy, everyone seems to afraid to use them, paradoxically because they see them as overused. Why is it that fucking Skyrim was the last major video game to feature a dragon BBEG? That was almost eight years ago.
>>66237599thats a wyvern
>Party is hired by an unknown person. Even the people who contact them is unsure who is paying for the raid on a dungeon.>Party digs deep down in the tunnel.>Dragon: FINALLY. YOu guys came...did you bring the pizza? You guys are early too....this is gonna be a good tip
>>66237599>boringThat's the entire point. D&D was based on the medieval European notion that dragons were kind of a common pest. You weren't the baddest dude alive for slaying one, but you were a slightly badder than average dude. What is tired and overused is the numale tier fantasy WoW-esque depiction of dragons being monolithic extraordinarily powerful world destroying creatures or weebshit and furry fetishism like >>66237629. If you were to return to the idea of dragons being fire breathing lizards who sometimes lived for a couple of hundred years if some knights didn't slap their shit in, you suddenly have one of the freshest uses of dragons the world has seen in years, and it was intended to be like that all along. Stop consuming shit media OP.
>>66237599what a terrible looking dragon you chose
>>66237599I like the dragon niche as an incredibly destructive force that just kind of cuts a swathe like a thinking natural disasters/nuclear bomb, but I like using different giant monsters to fill the slot. An Africa setting could have grootslangs just showing up from time to time and wrecking villages, for example.
>>66239074Thunderbirds and krakens would also work depending on the setting.
>>66238432Theres always one. Now lets discuss how that word is pronounced.
>>66237599>in 16 years of ttrpgs never faced a dragonYeah...bored and overused
>>66238866OP love of the cocks is not an excess but the norm.>>66237599Stop overworking your dragon.
>>66237723>>66237773>>66239111Furfags need to fuck off. Your generic shit lizards are not appealing in the slightest. Mythological figures with some dragon-like appendages is a lot more appealing.
>>66237629You call that a dragon?
>>66238412I used a dragon once, but it wasn't a monster to be fought. It was a force of nature to be survived. In a campaign I was a player in though, hoo boy. Campaign was on an island continent which was split into sections lorded over by a big dragon. We the players were in a frontier town the Gold dragon had established to both provoke the Red dragon up North and also to guard the skeleton of an ancient dragon who was maybe undead? I wasn't able to play at that point. Anyway, humans were about to die out, dwarves were in secret cities hiding from the Drow and the Red dragon's forces, the Elves lived in the big ass forest with the Blue(?), and Dragonborn were the most common race. They were also racist against colors. My gold dragonborn fighter married an albino woman who turned out to be from the red country up North. Before I had to leave the game I learned they had two eggs which with patterned with both red and gold. I was looking forward to taking on half the town in righteous fury if they were racist towards my pc's wife.
>>66239717The whole point of that ramble, we fought dragons pretty regularly. Young dragons usually since we were lower level, but every now and then an adult dragon. The Red dragon sent his oldest son with an army to destroy our town because we stumbled upon an army staging point near us and wiped them out. DM's husband set up a trap with gunpowder to demolish the army. It was a big event so we got all the players (we usually only played 6 of us a week but there was 11 or so players in all) to take part. Some of us fought the remains of the army while the others ganged up on the dragon. We ended up killing him as he fled, so he crashed and we had lava pits form around his skeleton. We went out to harvest bones every now and the , and also got some hot springs for a bath house. Some ways out from the town was an inn with a green(?) dragon who wasn't shy about sticking his dick in everything. We ended up killing a couple of his dragon children who were misbehaving. On the way back from killing them we stopped in at his inn and based on clues he and us realized it was his kids we killed. I expected a fight to break out but he just kind of looked sad and said something about how they deserved it.Different character, same game. Playing a human ranger with Noble background, noble of the gold. We're dungeon diving and find some good stuff. A super Chad comes in after and demands we give him the stuff or he'll kill us. We laugh at him and his 3 kobold companions until he turns into a full grown dragon. Everyone's going oh shit but I quietly apply some (highly illegal) dragon poison I made to my crossbow and keep laughing at him. We fight and win. The DM later tells me that the bow I took from him had a crest on it that I recognize as being the crest of the Big Blue from the forest. This was her son. She sends an envoy to accuse me of murder and bring me to her kingdom, but with the Gold's blessing I argue he instigated it and we're close to declaring war. Envoy left.
>>66239465why do you sound so fucking obsessed holy shit
>>66239465>Furfags need to fuck off. Your generic shit lizards are not appealing in the slightestI despise scalies and their obsession with superaweseome wise powerful OP dragons. But dragons truly make for some of the best apex beasts of the "ultimate force of nature" kind, and thus great enemies. >Mythological figures with some dragon-like appendages is a lot more appealing. You (rightfully) shit on others for not being able to contain their fetishistic boners and then proceed to whip out your own. I spit on you a hundred times, then drink some water and do it again.
>>66239114Wih-vern is the correct pronunciation according to historical linguistic analysis. It's a hard pill to swallow but 'why vern' is an Americanized creation. If you want another hard pill to swallow, wyrm is pronounced as weerm or vyrm and wurm is horrifically incorrect. And the w in sword isn't silent.
>>66238412To be fair we got the GOAT dragon 7 years ago
>tfw Pox Nora is dead and its art will only be used for troll threads
Dragons tire you out, are sexy as hell, and can't possibly be used enough.
>>66243279Please, aslk any succubus and they'll tell you dragons are all show, little substance. They have big dicks but no stamina. Use em enough and that big piece of meat just comes apart at the seams.
>>66243413>ask a literal sex demon whether something that isn't another sex demon is a satisfying partnerThe important thing is that dragons outpace PC races.
I use dragons as a large beastly monster type. The shepherd in the party managed to appease and befriend one, now it lives on his farm and he sells scales it sheds for more sterlings than he's made in his entire life before it came along, and it doubles as security. The Landsknecht is practicing riding it in hopes of being able to one day ride it into battle and its got the bard player trying to come up with cool ways to do that too.
>>66243279Sure, you can kill a dragon, train a dragon, raise a dragon, or romance a dragon, but can you build a dragon?
>>66243586A dragoness can, and I can help!
>>66243609That falls under romancing a dragon, anon. No cheating. You have to build it yourself.
>>66239505Is there a full image of this? It’s porn isn’t it?
>>66239465>generic shit lizardsDragons are born from the remnants of our prehistoric fears from when we were simple monkeys: snakes, birds, and big cats. They are the embodiment of the ultimate apex predator, one that is the most anti-human creature conceivable, a perfect combination of proto-humanity's most feared foes. Add in flames, coming from lightning strikes to burn down forests and/or grasslands that proto-humans ate from? They are an unstoppable, unkillable force of nature that is beyond reason or logic. Now that humans are intellectually advanced beyond the stage of being monkeys, we know that these creatures are not beyond control, beyond death. Now, they're pests to us and our livestock. The story of the classic dragon in and of itself is, in my opinion, the ultimate underdog story.I despise scalies as much as the next guy. Mythological figures with some dragon-like appendages can certainly be cool. I also don't think that all dragons need to be unstoppable forces of nature: in fact, all of my dragons are big dumb lizards. However, to say that a guy with dragon limbs or an anime girl with wings and a tail is more primally intimidating and terrifying than a man-eating, fire-breathing monster is honest to God just about the stupidest thing I've heard on this entire board, if not this entire website. You can jack off to whatever you like to, it's your life, but there's more to something than how fuckable it looks. The moment you make it human, it's instantly weaker in our minds. Still stronger than the average human, but nowhere near the apex predators of eons past.
>>66237599Probably because you don't know the difference between dragons and wyverns
>>66243983>your point>well argued>correct>basedChoose four and only four.
>>66237609>Are dragons good /tg/?>>depends on the setting!
>>66237599dragons are literally the coolest thing in fantasy, but I do agree that they should be used sparingly.
>>66243983And if one of these impossible apex predators were converted to your religion, that would be the ultimate proof that your religion is the correct one, right?
>>66244326Another excellent point I actually hadn't quite thought of yet. Thank you, friend.
>>66243609Welp, some guy is getting promoted. Thanks anon.

>>66245032> You get rid of it by being shallow, uninterested and uninteresting so to kill it's curiosity
>>66237647IT'S MAGIC BBBIITTCCHH
>>66237599Dragons are none of these things, they are the most iconic fantasy creature. If you have such a problem with dragons appearing in your game, stop overusing them.
>>66245470OP has never run a game.
>>66237599True fact, use a sphinx. They can vore you *and* do ageplay.
>>66245582is there a way to spin these creatures so they don't just appear once at a temple? Maybe they could be reskinned angel messengers or something.
>>66245869That's a good thought. The whole "temple guardian" shtick does limit them a lot. Dragons have their lairs, but leave them often enough to not be defined by them. I like using their time powers a lot more, basically guiding the world down the "best" path, a la Radiant Historia.
>>66245954>I like using their time powers a lot more, basically guiding the world down the "best" path, a la Radiant Historia.could you elaborate on that? I'm a big fan of time travel/fate shenanigans
>>66246224Well in 5E, they gain the ability to manipulate time, both to time travel either forward or backward, or advance or regress someone's personal time, basically age or de-age someone. Radiant Historia though, great game, two twins acted as guides, aiding him as he traveled throughout two timelines in order to guide history down the best path, not the guaranteed happy ending (unless you're playing the sub-par remake) just the path with the best chance of not ending in everyone's death, so utterly fucked the world is.
>>66237599Dragons are practically unseen in media, we talk about them a lot and everyone knows about them, but we rarely see any. What are even talking about, retard?
>>66246889Sounds cool. I'll add it to the growing list of jrpgs I will never play kek.
>>66245869>>66245954Or, they have to have a "Lair," but it doesn't have to be a typical lair, and they can go elsewhere - they just won't be as connected as they are to their Lair. And, the Lair might not be the usual crypt or oubliette, perhaps she presides over a library or, in a modern fantasy setting, a fast food joint she manages.
>>66247276>Fast food joint she managesDoes she have some dude tonguing her box while she's dealing with idiot customers, by chance?
>>66243983oh sure dude dragons breathing fire or being like big cats didn't come from the last few centuries/decades
>>66237599Who needs dragons when you can get bug fucking guns
>>66237599Good job with proposing alternatives, you shitposting faggot.

>>66239505Where's the imgur link to the Tiamat hentai we all know you have?
If you think dragons are boring you're doing it wrong. Either you have a shit setting, a shit DM, a shit group, a shit imagination, or all of the above. Dragons come in so many shapes and sizes it is fucking outstanding. You can tell literally ANY kind of story with them. Stop being terrible at roleplaying and storytelling, it's fucking embarrassing.Dragons were always awesome and will always be awesome.
>>66244081damn straight quit asking questions that can easily be answered with that
>>66237629I just don't understand. Why is anime so tied into having literally optimally terrible taste? You're like a joke character that the author wrote in just to make fun of people with bad taste, your taste is so bad.

>>66249591Not compared to millennia.
>>66249421I will literally never stop, as it is a relic of the before times in which people would use this as a chance to talk about dragons in their setting. You know, back before /tg/ stopped playing games.I will remember and continue the ancient customs.

>>66255587That's because they fucking suck. They look goofy and ugly, they have no powerful presence, and they are the antithesis of the traditional dragon role and have no place in most settings or situations.
