DM's give a brief description of your party (crappy MS paints always welcome). Other GM's rate the party and how they'd run a game for them.

> This Party seems huge but Tijo, Bob and Mok's players dip in and out kinda like guest players.
>They operate out of a run down castle they are fixing up as a base of operations. Players who are away for extended periods are assumed to be working on the repairs.
>The big bad guy is a Lich named Bruno AND the Witch Hunter named Kaden who will stop at literally nothing to put an end to him.
>Fitz, Face and Soshira are all employed by the same church as Kaden, their job is to recover the bodies of fallen adventurers whenever they can and return them for proper burial.
>>
>>66220546
how do you run a game with 8 players? how do you even schedule it?

Alright, here goes.

>Group has 5 players.
>There is no big bad guy, just various factions all fighting for the same limited pool of resources.
>The Barbarian, Cavalier, Paladin and Sorcerer want to keep doing mercenary work.
>The Cleric decides to join the Necromancers, and now has a set of goals that put him at odds with the rest of the party.

What do?
>>
>>66223261
Talk to him and get him to stop being such a massive faggot in games.
>>
>>66223364
Hmm.....I would personally set the cleric a different time to play and work each against the other.
Or assuming the party are not against working for necromancers [paladin though....] have them run around collecting information and crippling the other factions.
Or do the above, but without being told who they are working for.
>>
Lets see, Party is level 6 and we won't advance beyond that point, because homebrew game.

>Male Paladin of god of protection, Ancients oath, does not kill but brutalisation is fine. 'Sister' is another paladin, through long acquaintance and taking the trials together to become paladins. Paranoid and a curious juxtaposition of stupidly retarded when it comes to anything but what his duty demands, like say he doesn't the person he is bodyguarding trying to seduce him and the hyper competence that he always see's a trap before it springs and is a fucking monster in combat with damage reduction and high AC. Bodyguarding the female equivalent of the pope.

>Female paladin of god of protection, has a 'brother' in the male paladin, has devotion oath and is a steadfast warrior with a determination to carry on, no matter what. Also a foreigner captured on a crusade a decade or two ago and may or may not be the heir to a foreign legendary line. Protects the mega pope with big brother, Actually died but got better.

>Paladin of conquest, Follower of the god of destruction and righteous anger. If he hits, it dies. No exceptions barring divine angels and gods, even demi-gods have been felled by our hands with him being the biggest hitter. Did once decide that death was for pussies, and sat back up. The embodyment of good and just, is not nice.

>Half-ork monk. sun soul specialisation. Trained by god [of destruction] in disguise, anime as fuck, anti-social as fuck, funny as fuck. Relationship [that could get both of them killed for heresy] with female paladin. Crowning moment was when we faced the enemy army on a fuckhuge bridge before the final battle and rather than let us sneak around he used all of his 6 charisma, to step out into the Open and yell "SUP FUCKERS" to spark the army to attack us. We survived to slap him.

Our adventures are just over, but I am interested to see what people do with this.

MNM 3e

We got 7 people for this game. Freedom City storyline, except set in 2035 after an alium invasion. Spoilers: earth kicks their ass. It's a globetrotting game with the main enemy being Shadow (a HYDRA/Cobra Command/Brotherhood of NOD superhybrid) yet still retaining its campiness.

>A Woody Harrelson superfan who is playing notDefendor. Basically a Walgreens MacGuyver. Main rival is the Happy Gilmore Club (Sandler, Nealon, Schneider, James, Macdonald, Rock, Spade, Buscemi, Winkler) since they are washed up gentrifiers. Possesses a small nuke and has domesticated the space crabs (see below)

>Second is a Star Knight, the in-universe notGreen Lantern/Power Ranger hybrid. Created a new lifeform when he tossed a pile of space poop containing husky-sized space crabs at a highly electrified building. Is now attempting to double-agent Shadow in his day job.

>Third is a snakeshifter. Human/snake/naga/yuan-ti shapeshifter. Hates sexual predators and has eaten (and fully digested) David Spade. Adapts powers on a tiny scale from her victories.

>Fourth is a clone of The Shadow from the Golden Age era. Hates gangsters and organized crime, likes to work alone. I don't think much more needs to be said here.

>Fifth is a plant controller/Doogie Hauser-esque prodigy doctor. Innocent, sweet, crafty, and uses scantily clad looks as a weapon. Defensively seduced notThor on their first encounter.

>Sixth is Bigshot. Bigshot snorts gunpowder raw and has zero concept of "danger close". Owns a reclaimed robot named "Lil' Shot" - battle droid from waist down, M134 from the waist up.

We've got three other players but they aren't fully in the game yet.

My campaign takes place in an early renaissance / very late medieval home-brew for D&D

My party:

- Female Half-Elven Life Cleric that hasn't shown up for months but I DMPC her char in order to prevent the party from dying too much
- Human Vengeance Paladin that powergames and is sentinel+dual wield, doesn't give a shit about RP or the story but has a lot of fun in combat (I'm pretty lethal and he enjoys the challenge)
- Dwarven Wizard/Tinkerer who uses a lot of mechanical contraptions, quite smart about using them and kinda entertaining to watch them play out, however the player can't take anything seriously (i.e. I whip my dick out and try and pick the giant lock with it)
- Halfling Bard that is new to the party, she tries a little more to RP but her character is frankly useless in a fight save for a magical lute that can fire cones of cantrip level damage that was conveniently cheap and bard exclusive in an item shop
- Half-Dragon Barbarian who complains about being bored until combat begins
- Dwarf Warlock attempts to RP but is also decent in combat, dating the Bard irl
- Elven Druid that frankly is there to murder everyone as well, doesn't seem to care much about the environment

I've never actually played D&D, I'm a forever DM and somehow 2 years down the line they keep asking me to run games. Not sure if my writing is dogshit but my combat is excellent or my party is just full of murderhobo crit role fags

He's also the most wealthy among us and has the nicest house, complete with a gaming den. So we usually play there and he'll often buy pizza or whatever for lunch.

Worried about hurting his feelings if we pull him about it.

This party looks like a lot of fun. I wish to know more about the magic dog.
Geoffroy seems like your old school bond villains and it's great.
>>
>>66228345
> I wish to know more about the magic dog.
Alright so a plot point is that magic is starting to become real, and there are a numbers of artifacts that allow peoples to give it shape (basically create a school of magic). One of the effect of the first artifact was make animals grow very big. So as Badit and his group (the players are divided in two parties, they do different stuffs each but communicate between each others) had to face a big black dog in the British countryside. They gravely wounded the dog, but Badit realized that the dog was more then just big, it also had regenerative powers. So he took it to the vet despite the others player telling him no, brought a book on raising dog, and made it his pet, Koufar the magic dog (By the way, Koufar mean "miscreant" in Arabic.)
>Geoffroy seems like your old school bond villains and it's great.
You have no idea. All others factions in the campaign try to keep magic a secrets and do a war in the shadow, but he plan to reveal magic to the world, present himself and the others players as the "saviors of mankind, the one who revealed the conspiracy", use the fame to put pressure on the Pope so he abdicate for Maurizio, then use the total sellout that is Maurizio to control the catholic faith into doing his binding. Just so he can create his utopia.
So really my players are the henchman of a Bond Villain.
>>
My party makes my game look less fun on paper
Ander; the simic hybrid monk/ barb but we arent in ravnica so he's an escaped experiment some drow were cooming up to make a daytime capable army.
Nurse Warden Helga; the dwarf beserker barb who grew up as an outcast. Knows basic medical training and keeps the crew in line
Damien: an orc bard who travels with his brother looking to do something since their planet blew up; has 3 cha and talks like text to speech. Is unfortunately the only who can fly the ship. His brother just exists as a backup char for when he dies.

I have two others but one has only played once and doesn't want to make the hassle; i also had to explain to them thag dandwiki isn't just a wiki of everything in dnd.
Then we have a triton tempest cleric who worships bloopdepoolop and wants to be a pirate preacher.
This group of oddballs travels from planet to plantet on their ship; the Starcrasher.

>>66233204
>>66233215
Now THIS is a colorful party
>>
-Fallen Aasimar GOO Warlock, didn't know anything about current D&D's lore, somehow he from both his backstory and his current actions is getting him on a clash course with the cult of the kraken, he somehow allways rolls nat1's whenever he uses eldritch blast, so in battle he just walks around with a club with shlillelag while wearing only a fine silk loincloth waiting to hellish rebuke, also he just got into drugs, once raped a halfling
-Dragonborne Zealoth Barbarian, rolls absurdly well when doing damage, at least 3 NAT20's per combat, and almost always rolls max damage on his dice, rolled for health, rolled way to good ,has a thing for hugging bears, killed another players character since she was going to leave the group ,accidently made a deal with the ancient green dragon Claugiyliamatar and gave her a teeth, so he is getting constantly scried , best bros with monk
-Human Sun Soul Monk, hasnt ever used his sunbolt in combat, always misses his first atack on a round, never misses his bonus action unarmed attacks, mostly lawfull good, goes full chaotic evil whenever he deals with any nobleman, is trying to nail an elf that may or may not be a crossdresser, calls potions "potis, best bros with Barbarian
-Drow shadow Sorcerer, edgiest of edgiest backstories, migth cringe at his existance if it wasnt that he is a pretty good roleplayer and is a competent group leader, both great at combat strategy and diplomacy, IRL dances to disco music each time he casts chromatic orb, has a ting for going out shopping for cloacks
-Half-elf wild magic sorcerer, only Female
character, obviously played by a guy, quite competent at portraying a late 40s woman, literally fell from the sky, on top of a pile of charred corpses, alcoholism problems, constantly gets gropped by warlock, is afraid of chinesse merchants, wants do try DMing a Ravnica campaing since i said i didnt gave a shit about MTG and i dont accept Ravnica races/sub-classes

cont
>>
>>66235092
-Half Orc Conquest Paladin, first time player, better roleplayer than i expected, rolled for stats, rolled absurdly well, 2 18's, a 16, 2 14's and a 10 as his lowest stat, works as babbysitter for the barbarian and monk
-Hobbit Rogue, most boring character of the bunch, only goes to 1 out of every 4 sessions, every time he tries to open a door i make him roll, this always ends in a NAT 1, he hasnt ever opened a door without making a fool out of him, once this led to him being rapped by the warlock, forbid him of leveling up to LV3 until after he read all rogue subclases since he wanted to take assasin without even reading what abilities it had, just because the subclass name sounded cool, this was months ago, he still hasnt leveled up

cont
>>
>>66235096
lastly

-Goliath Samurai Figther, the literal definition of a gentle gigant, most neutral good guy ever, really helpfull, carries other characters around so they dont get tired of walking, if he rolls for any kind of strength competition against the barbarian or paladin he allways wins, even having the same/lower stats, has literally no backstory except bits of info he makes on the fly ,i am pretty sure he made this character to make me fell sorry for the death of his previous one ,his previous character was a cleric that was the mixture of every chaotic neutral stereotype, helpfull as a healer but very unlikeable as a character, even trough all players are good friends, his character was friends only with the drow sorcerer, the other characters were only employees for him, he paid almost all expenses for the party, he was a life domain cleric even trough his 11 page backstory was a way better fit for a knowlege domain backstory and the way he played his char was more fit for a trickery domain, his previous character died after he got rejected by a innkeper milf, jumped on the sewers alone, got every possible clue and foreshadowing about them being cluttered by gelatinous cubes, wich every party member but him understood and got eaten alive, he had a chunck of a beholder on his backpack that intoxicated and killed the cube afterwards, when the party found his half melted remains and his armor and weapons they got mad at him for hoarding items that he couldn't use and other member could, and didnt even tougth about trading them, he just wanted to hoard them, the party, party gave his pet rat who also died on the incident a funeral, he didnt get one, now he is spending eternity on pandemonium

>>
>>66239991
The german character was from before the player started Jojo, but he started using "German science" after finishing Battle tendencies.
The magic dog was not a planned thing, it was supposed to be a random beast to defeat but the player decided to keep it.
That said, now they make a lot of Jojokes, since 6 of them watch it.
>>
>>66220546
Decent enough party I guess. Don't think I'd ever DM for 8 people. Drow player would probably be kicked out after a talking to after first session, and failing to comply second session. Pretty sure the lizard is just a rip from an Overlord character, but then again, most players who don't know what to do their first time generally just steal from sources they like. Nothing bad about that.

>>66233204

Better than half of the parties in this thread, but that isn't saying much. Your party is either really cool or just meh, and I wouldn't know unless I had more info.
>>66235054
I love this. Games like this are almost always fun.
>>
>>66241485
>I'm going to second that your players probably went full Jojo with their characters without you knowing since you have no benefit in lying
There was only two players who watched Jojo before starting the campaign, although it does make sense if one made his character inspired on Pucci.
But my original inspiration was Persona.
>>
>>66241485
Regarding >66233204 and >66233215
They're actually both really cool and really meh. You see, everyone in the party (except Wizaruto) is brand new to DnD. Only a few players grasped the way everything works, and since the group is so big, there are always a few players who are bored, on their phones, and only attentive for important stuff. Ahsoka and Peros tend to drive everything, with Maja and Wizaruto helping out consistently. When stuff gets done, they're a great party that performs decently well in combat and roleplay situations, but there's also long stretches of boring nothingness and the party being confused about what to do and what they've done in the past.

I blame myself for a lot of this, since I figured running Storm King's Thunder would be a good idea for a new group, but the lack of direction in the middle led to a slow, plodding three months of sessions where they didn't progress, and once they did get on track with the plot, they started blowing through it really quickly, leveling up after every session. However, because of the speed, I didn't really have time to emphasize important plot elements, or they just forgot because "there's six other people, someone else will remember it." In the future, I think I'd much rather run a totally original campaign where I can make the plot flow organically around the party's exploits. They're a good party and a great set of friends, but there's a lot we could all improve on.
>>
>>66242392
Sounds like the biggest downside is the number of people.

Personally, I run a campaign of 5 people. All of them show up every week, barring rare cases. Even then, they tell me ahead of time. Everyone knows what is going on at all times and they know what NPC I would refer to if I gave a name. Sometimes they know who an NPC is just from hearsay of things they did from another NPC. There's a few reasons for this.
-I require their attention for the duration of the session. No phone shit, no wasting my time.
-I give each of the NPCs profiles so they -know- who is who and can refer to them when needed.
They know that they are totally replaceable, so they give it their all. It could be better, but it's a great group. My group also has one or two that drive everything forward while the rest remain passive. I think that's just a result of them falling in line with the most dominant person? The passive people are still attentive and have some really great stuff going when they get started.

If you cared for advice, the way it sounds is lower the party numbers may not be possible. If that's the case, it's harder to require their attention if there's already so much going on. The one thing you could potentially improve on is giving them more stuff to remember what is going on in the campaign.
-Have someone write journal entries for each/every few session(s)
-write out profiles for characters/cities you want them to remember and put it somewhere they all can easily access if they have trouble remembering
>>
>>66243103
Thing is, I've actually done most of that. Peros and Vale keep track of all the logistics, Maja tends to remember what happened last session and gets the rest of the party talking to remember it, and I print out maps for the important places and cities. Using profiles isn't a bad idea, though, because they've gotten quite confused about many characters, including plot-relevant ones. Sometimes they'd interpret irrelevant information as relevant, which is my fault for presenting pretty much everything in a similar way, or only alluding to the importance. I'm almost at the end of STK, but I'll keep that in mind for the future! It seems like it could really help solve the "nobody knows who's who or what we're doing" problem. (And our spotty schedule with us usually missing one or two players doesn't help with that issue.)

>>66239803
Not pasta no. This is only the 2nd time I've made the thread though. If I'm honest I sometimes steal some of the characters / parties posted here to use as enemies or NPC's.

>>66241485
In regards to the OP party, it's usually just 5 players. never DMed for more than 6. They found an old abandoned castle that they decided to use as a base. Sometimes 1 of the main players will take a leave of absence for a few weeks too. The Drow is a problem but usually we just ignore him and try and keep the game flowing, because we are all friends outside the game.
>>
>>66243670
Well, usually it helps to be able to put information to a face, so in those profiles I give them art. (plenty of character art threads on /tg/, but you can just as easily find stuff on pinterest). I'm at upwards of 100 NPCs after about a year of this campaign, and any of my players would know 90% of NPCs I may be referring to.

Since I went and gave feedback on others, guess I'll be fair and post mine. Party is currently level 12.

>Female Kitsune Rogue: De-facto leader of the group. Handles negotiations, and essentially leads the flow of their decisions. Has reached a level of personal growth she is satisfied with and is currently working on finding successors for everything that she's built up to this point. Is arguably the strongest of the group and has a plan to kill everyone she meets(including everyone in the party). Basically Batman. Her goal is to just live a quiet life.

>Male Human Wizard: By far the youngest of the group. Loves cooking to the point he made it his main goal in life. As of now he's taken over the national cooking guild, mastered several cooking styles that I've added for him to learn. (Made a custom cooking system too.) A close second in strength behind the rogue. Runs a local restaurant with his girlfriend, who is his cooking teacher's daughter and goes on trips cooking for needy villages. Outside of the adventures, he lives a comfy life.

>Male Raptoran Warblade: Eldest of the group. Goal is simply to have a family and people to return to. Went through a lot of angst, lost his arm to a then enemy, now ally. The weakest of the group, but doesn't really mind. Doesn't have much else going for him.

>Female Gnoll Druid: Loves dragons. Is raising three of them, currently five years old. Has basically become full time mother and animal conversationalist. Has a dragon admirer whose success could go either way. Likes crafting out of rocks to give as presents. Easily the most thoughtful and kind. Just wants people to get along.

>Variant(OC) Human Warlock: If by the race/class combo, you guessed that this was That Guy, congratulations, you're right. He's not too bad. Just not the brightest and has gotten into so much trouble of his own doing to the point nobody in the party trusts him. Is the second weakest after being handed 3 reworks, and 2 custom abilities. Trouble.
>>
All hit 20 recently

-Female High Elf, Mastermind rogue. First time playing never focused on background and story.

-Male aasimar, Paladin Cleric. Father is his cleric deity, recently lost his powers from his past actions.

-Male half-elf, Fiend Warlock. Started as fallen celestial to make redemption arc for both the character and patron. Due to the aasimar almost killing them he decided being good isn't worth it if killing party members is fine. Went LE as did patron, now wants to become lich.

-Male gnome, Rogue Bard. stereotypical bard and rogue. steals everything and sleeps with everyone.

-Male half-orc, Monk. Party babysitter. Keeps everyone on track 10/10 player.
>>
Party is level 16, and are nearing the endgame.

>Male Nymphae, Circle of the Coast Druid. Calm and collected, and almost entirely dedicated to healing.
>Male Shadar-Kai, Necromancer. A quite respectable and reasonable person, for being lawful evil.
>Male Human, Wild Magic Sorcerer. Is eight, and horrifically powerful.
>Male Half-Elf, Drunk Monk/Zealot Barb. Has serious mental issues from a lifetime of Substance abuse. Several, lifetimes, actually, since he's a highlander.

I like the party so far, there are two gunslingers but I don't think it will be that bad I'm suspicious of one of the player being that guy but I'm not sure yet

I know nothing about deadland, so the bee mormon was a serious whiplash

This looks like a dope setting and party. How are the players?

This team is very anime, imo.

>Female Kitsune Rogue
> Basically Batman
Batman don't kill
>Her goal is to just live a quiet life.
>has a plan to kill everyone she meets
So it's foxy Yoshikage Kira, or sniper from TF2

Overall that's a bit quircky, but it sound fun and it feel like they are invested in the game.

Batman in the sense that they have a contingency plan for everyone. She is in no way Yoshikage Kira. I feel like you got almost everything wrong out of what I wrote.

You sound like my teacher.
More seriously I was trying to joke a bit.

Why can't I play in a game like this?

Why must I always end up with shitters and That Guys every time?

I want a rich story and characters that care about each other, not contests to see who is the most edge, and does the most damage in a fight. I'm sick and tired of characters that laugh and ignore the deadliest threats, and I'm sick of GMs that throw literally death itself against the party as the second encounter of the game.

I just want... wholesome adventure. With villains with consciences, and heroes with flaws. I want meaningful interactions.

Damnit, I should never have come here.

What's your usual game? Maybe we could help you come up with solutions.

DMs who have a core group and a revolving door cast: what do you do when all of your players show up for a session? Do you do something big for it, or just continue with the story?
When all my players show up, there's 8 of them and they all want to have big fights.
