What was your guys' first miniatures?I love the painting side of things, and I've been in and out of the hobby for years. Now I'm starting just about everything from scratch and I'm paralyzed by indecisiveness. I just kind of want to paint creatures and beasts. Is that weird?

20 replies and page 8 already. damn maybe we should let this die for a week or so, let people recharge their batteries and forget that over half of every thread is just faction and edition wars while everything else barely gets a response. actually on second thought maybe we should just let the general die forever.

>>66217345What kind of relation have Lahmian Vampire and Chaos Warriors (not the bands of big armored Warrior of Chaos from the north but more especially the Norscan kingdoms / Kurgans tribes / Hung hordes) ?Can Neferata send some of her "daughters" pretend to be priestress / shaman/ medecine-woman / favourite-concubine or whatever position they can use to gain some influence on those human (like she do in Bretonnia / Empire or Kislev) ? I don't remember having never read something about that in army books ? (maybe in the Fantasy Roleplay?)
>>66223383Vampires in general fucking hate chaos so I don't see her trying to set up a control network in a land of no government and people killing each other.
>>66223383In non-cuckolded lore, >>66223405 is right - vampires consider Chaos anathema. Theoretically Neffy could send a daughter to infiltrate a Norscan community as a holy woman or a "prize" brought back by a warlord, but it would be dangerous. Chaos cultures have priests of their own who could hurt vulnerable vamps, the sun stays up half the year, daemons with cheaty knowledge are on speed-dial, and the blood of the locals is tainted. (The effect the last has is ambiguous. Ulrika feeds on a heavily-mutated Chaos warrior and is nauseated by the blood, but a group of Blood Dragons in one army book or another headed north into the wastes deliberately to seek out one of the eternity battles there, and they explicitly fed on the locals to zero ill effect). While it would potentially be useful to have agents in these cultures to turn them on one another or stymie promising warriors early, you have to keep in mind too that Lahmians are not just mindless drones by vampires; proud, independent, ever-hungry, egotistical. They might just fuck off and desert if sent to live in a sty with chimp-tier Norscans.

>>66225907That depends on the type of Amazon.Shieldwolf does nordic amazons and crusader amazons, raging heroes does elf amazons, werewolf amazons if you're a degenerate furfaggot. Working on the fall of the elven fortress scenario, so far I've got 30 spearmen, 10 archers, and 6 white lions vs 24 Arabyan spearmen, 12 arabyan archers, and two groups of 8 death commandos each in ambush. The elves have two special rules: "drunken revelry" where they drank too much in celebration of getting some action killing arabyans so they aren't under the benefits of speed of asuryan and "the only land you're welcome to take is an unmarked grave" granting them murderous prowess.Arabyans would have "fanatical zeal" which makes then test panic on 3d6 like cold-blooded, and the flanking death commandos. The goal of the elves is to kill off the arabyans; the arabyans want to sneak into the elf deployment zone while killing off the white lions.

>>66217345Might be time to archive the OP and scatter the thread to the winds.
>>66227822So it's been a little slow the last few days, so what? Don't doom and gloom on me. I was here back when we were barely limping from thread to thread. Serious discussions of becoming a weekend general were made. Compared to that, this is nothing. Whoever's busy playing games or doing other shit will eventually come back around, and I've still got models to paint and games to play.
What kind of units and special rules would you put in a non-vampire, non Von Drak Sylvanian army?
>>66227981Wouldn't they be just the average Imperial army then? Most you'd need to do would be to use poor-province units like archers and crossbows instead of handguns.
>>66228010Well Sylvanians are supposed to be even more superstitious than Stirlanders so there wouldn't be a lot of black powder. But I was thinking more along the lines of special units. Though I guess the most special thing Sylvania could produce is Morr Knights and Cultists.I do have a question related to that but it's lore not game: If the different knightly orders of Morr can bless their armor to be silent and even their horses could they have silent guns?
>>66226302It amazes me how every time GW tried to 'innovate' their paint pot design it always got worse. The design in that pic was by far the best.Side note, does anyone remember the name of that company that was faithfully recreating the old GW paints? Was it Coat D'Arms?
>>66227981A greatsword unit but with scythes instead.
>>66228126Lots of militia, no state troopers, hunters not archers, and flagellants as special rather than rare.
>>66228153>Was it Coat D'Arms?yes. And I wouldn't say "recreating", since they were the ones making the paints for GW.
>>66227981for them to have survived they'd probably have needed some serious anti undead measures. refluff the warpriests of sigmar as priests of morr and the inquisitor as a vampire hunter, maybe get one of those light wizard war machine things. as to special rules I'd give a unit of greatswords or something as knights of morr and give them like hatred:undead or something like that but priced accordingly.
>>66228153>It amazes me how every time GW tried to 'innovate' their paint pot design it always got worse.well...if your paint dries out within a year you have to buy more, right? right?
>>66227981Bowmen, spearmen/halberdiers, baroque knights (maybe use blood knights or the cheaper typical proxies). Also include some undead. The von Draks were famously necromancers and dark wizards, and employed them. This should probably be an element of the army, rather than the core; human necromancers aren't as powerful as vampire/tomb kang ones.
>>66228262Guy said he didn't want von Draks, but you could still include some Grey or Amethyst wizards to get that deathly feel.
>>66227981>>66228226actually moving forward on this, are you actually going to do anything with this? because if so I might be inclined to actually go into mechanical detail about an army like this.
>>66228431Well I will start first with a couple of trial matches on Table top sim and if I actually like how it playes I will go forward with the minis.
>>66226328>>66228153They didn't dry out, but jesus christ you had to use a pair of pliers to get them open when the lids got stuck. I still have an Enchanted Blue stain on the carpet from one attempt at opening a pot. God help you if the tab broke off.I can see why they might have changed.
>>66228293Mostly you'd just cut out the necromancers and undead, then. If we assume this isn't a thrall army of the von Carsteins, it either predates them or postdates Mannfred's defeat at Hel Fenn. Sylvanian nobility then were mostly pulled from Stirlander stock, and were usually poor. You'd see few - if any - guns or cannon. Yeah, a color wizard may be present as a member of the noble's court, but more likely to keep an eye on him and an eye out for vampires.

>>66222857how were these to put together? is an all RG dark elf army viable (with some random other monster for a hydra, and some other party bolt throwers) I've been on the um's and ah's of getting one and putting it together and seeing if I can get my one mate to dust of his lizardmen army.
>>66230549They weren't particularly difficult to put together, just soaked them in warm water with dish soap for an hour, dried, and went to town. They are very open-legged so they may not fit on a 20mm base flush though.
How would one go about converting up Swordmasters? Was thinking maybe dragon prince bodies on white lion legs, but then where could I get the swords? Sisters of Silence maybe?
>>66231315it would most likely be lest expensive to just ebay swordmasters
>>66227965Same here, I was one of the people who kept the thread live through 2016. I just think it's run it's course. I still play and love Fantasy but I just don't know what to talk about anymore. Seems like it's all been done before.
Then we keep the thread going for the sake of every new player or old fan that comes through looking to find that one thing they always needed. Maybe we'll get a little vicarious excitement, maybe we'll want to try that thing one more time, or maybe they'll find something we missed.

I like Warhammer Fantasy.
>>66230549>is an all RG dark elf army viableYes but fucking expensive, even more than GW when not on sale.
>>66229242That sounds oddly sentimental for Chaos

>>66219969>>66225822Not just bad army lists, but unapologetically bad. The Dark Elf book leak that led to Chaos being released without *any* testing due to GW butthurt, followed by "it's fine because it's Chaos".Shit Howdy, GW. Way to go making sure the players know they are hated...

>>66232346I know this feel. I have been collecting all of my dad's old group's stuff for years now. It's awesome to go through old campaign notes, maps and character sheets to see what they were doing 30 years ago. Now I am set to run a campaign for my dad and uncles. It's really important to me that it goes well and they have a good time, because they were kind enough to get me into their hobby when I was just a little kid.
Does anybody know of an army list builder program that supports 8.5?
>>66232655Me too. Age of Smegmar is fucking gay.
>>66234098I love the bits of humor in Warhammer Fantasy. I think those survived a bit better than they did in 40k, which wrapped itself up in its grimdark a lot sooner.
I'm being super autistic and writing out some headcanon on Bretonnia. Trying to find canon scraps to support me where I can, since I'm mostly trying to explain how shit ended up how it has and have more than a few throwaway lines on some things. Kinda fun to make distinctions between how things work in the Empire and Bretonnia.Something that's come to be headscratcher is 'how Bretonnians view other gods.' Specifically female ones. Would Myrmidia, Verena and Rhya be more accepted because they're similar to the Lady in some respects? Or are they treading on her toes too much, or Brets go 'why worship them when we can worship the Lady?' Verena and Myrmidia especially are a problem in this regard, since the former is related to government (which in Bretonnia is more divinely established), and Myrmidia is related to warfare (which the Lady has a large amount of sway in).
I’m using Brag the gutsman as a base for Skaff, Golgfags companion and standard bearer. I’m having trouble thinking of how to alter him to stand out from his base model. I’ve already added his peg leg and give him a beefy iron fist, but does anyone else have any ideas? I’m fairly handy with green stuff, but not super advanced with it.
>>66234279maybe a helmet like golfag has? the leather cowl is pretty recognizable
>>66234145I like Fantasy more than 40k because it's less Meme dark and tryhardy.
>>66234246I know some old cults(as in these are totally not elven) like the cult of Morr are present in Bretonia.I do wonder how an Ulric or Sigmar Bretonian worshiper would look and be treated by other brets and imperials.
>>66234246If I remember correctly the Lady is especially venerated by the nobility, while the old gods cults are more prevalent in the peasantry.
>>66234279A different headgear I would say, maybe a hat or a face cage
>>66234359Morr's going to be a fun one to headcanon about. There was an old short story and some odd bits of fluff that imply the nobility at least are blessed by the Lady when they're buried, not by Morr. And considering how Bretonnia seems less full of the skulls and death imagery compared to the Empire, I was going to figure his worship was on the wane, priests of Morr more likely to tend to peasants and the pauper's graveyards. Or at one point perhaps he had no worship at all, but he's grown in popularity in the dukedoms bordering Mousilion, with a bit more of a fearful reaper aspect.>>66234385Pretty much, yeah. I can't find a single canon mention of a noble of Bretonnia worshiping a deity aside from the Lady, at least so far. Not even a oath to Taal or something. The peasantry still revere the Lady, mind. Somehow this idea that they're banned from worshiping her has gotten around, which I think is a misinterpretation of the prayer before battle thing.
>>66221470I remember those, ended up getting their 40k equivalent instead when I was eight. 4 monopose marines with a monopose rocket launcher marine.
>>66217345Do we still have a complete, working MEGA with all the 6th ed. rules ?
>>66234569>Worship of Morr spreads around an area where a good man is spreading the truth about the Lady being a false godI wonder why Also what would be a good non garbage times explanation for why the Lady has her powers even though she ain't real?
>>66234569>Not even a oath to Taal or something.they at least respect taal, considering how the damsel and knights went to la maisontaal to rescue it
>>66234691My headcanon is that she's a naiad that ended up extremely powerful because...magic rivers, I dunno. If Athel Loren can somehow became super powerful, a watery tart can. She felt spurned by the elves after the War of the Beard, and took to humans with the usual naiad obsessive affection. These naive little men would never be so cruel as to abandon her, they barely know any better. Oh yes, so much better than elves...Going so far as to say 'she ain't real' doesn't really make sense. She has to be somewhat real, otherwise Brets wouldn't be able to find her at the end of their quests, or get visions from her. Even Genevieve met her at one point, if I remember right.
>>66234569I think the worship of different old world gods isn't really contradictory. A man at arms can pray the Lady for protection in battle and still give an offering to the chapel of Myrmidia
>>66234816It's not that she isn't real as in she doesn't exist but in the sense that she isn't a real god with real ownership over some part of the astral plain and as such she can't provide salation like Sigmar or Morr, or supreme mastery like Taal, or claim true ownership over a people and place like Ulric. So the people of Bretonia have a less safe afterlife and patron God that doesn't really have the right De Jure right to be.In my headcannon she is some Tomb King level of Soul Vampire that is using the Bretonians to sustain herself and feed her delusions of grandeur, maybe she actually cares about them and thinks taking their souls is for the best. But thats just one half baked theory. Maybe she is some super powerful human on the way to become like Sigman, she just isn't dead yet.
>>66234910God I word salad hard there.Meant salvation* and just De Jure right.
>>66217345Lads, where do I find fresh levies of troops in this day and age?#PourLaDame
>>66233712i guess thats a no ;_;
>>66234959Fireforge games, Avatar of War or Gamezone for third party.
>>66234910Well...why isn't she real in that sense? I don't see why she couldn't be. Ancestor gods obviously didn't start out as gods, but became them. Orion and Isha are pretty much living representatives of Athel Loren - if you wanted to you could claim that they're just normal elves given a shitton of power and reincarnation through tree magic, but we acquiesce to the idea of them being at least demi-gods. Sigmar managed it, Myrmidia managed it. We've had plenty of lore and arguments about how ideas reflect the warp and the warp reflects reality and all that.If you want to make her a decidedly evil and less benevolent figure, a false idol, I can't stop you. It sounds like you've read your Barony of the Damned and enjoy the idea. But I like her somewhere more in the middle.Oh, and while we're on the subject, for the longest time before ET there was some vague idea of the Lady being a 'lovecraftian' goddess you see referred to in various fan discussions and shit. Do you have any idea where that came from, or was it just an idea people started rolling with?
>>66234246The main Temple of Shallya is located in Bretonnia. So I guess they favor goddesses more.
>>66224695Whatever happened to the foundation paints?
>>66235043>Do you have any idea where that came from, or was it just an idea people started rolling with? It's because bright ghostly green is the color of necromancy and the Witch hunter requested I tell him if anything glows like that.It might have something to do with the source material as both HP and Warhammer took a lot from ye old English and Norman folkolre. It's also the semi secretive nature of the cult that lends it's self to that kind of speculation. We know for sure who Sigmar was, how his cult evolved and how it functions. With the Lady there is a lot more ambiguity especially on the first part, and the cult seems somewhat artificial or forced(be it writers intent or not). The grail knight seems borderline necromantic and the cup that only thee worthy can survive drinking and is a mark of devotion showing you an abstract truth is quite similar to a lot of occult writing, especially when you factor that one worthy man drank from it and he did not see the Lady nor did he see death. I mean who would make a religion out of a fair maiden living in a lake distributing swords to reckless spoiled children? If you want my honest take the Lady war originally real just a bit shoddily written and only seems Lovecraftian do to Occultism(not HP) using a lot of old mythology and either refraining, rewriting or subverting it to get a different response. And The Black Knight of Mousillion was probably originally written as a way to conceal Chaos(probably Tzeanch) but it evolved to become a folly to the Lady that's not just Chaos so in turn the Lady evolved to not be as perfect and straight forward of a goddess.
You guys have some rare or obscure maps to share?
So C7 is planning on doing an Ulthuan sourcebook. What would you want to see out of it? Personally, I want kingdom specific talents. So that I can have a NEET Saphery mage, an Incel Nagarthyee shadow warrior, and a Chad Caledoran dragon prince go on adventures.
>>66235445I just want to see the individual kingdoms more fleshed out. Especially those that barely get any recognition, like Yvresse, Cothique, Tiranoc yes, we got a unit from there, but how much do we actually know about Tiranoc? Daily life, maps of cities and fortresses, a bestiary, cuisine, weapons and armor. Not inventing anything new, just flesh these places out.I fear that, aside from obvious SJWness, that it will largely focus on Lothern as the hub of everything and we only get a bit of other kingdoms.
>>66235547>obvious SJWnessWhat? I mean, what about the Asur really needs more SJWness? They're ruled by a god-queen and a woke af sailor who have an open relationship with partners of both sexes. They're the smartest, most enlightened species on the planet with near complete gender-equality. What else could they want?

>>66240991>Liber Chaoticais not solid canon, and relies too much on for starters the reliability of a completely psychotic and Chaos-worshiping author to write or record anything valid, and second even if his transcriptions are correct it relies on others theorizing things well above mortal understanding and just happening to be right on them, something even history's most gifted theologians never could get to. Some changed their ideas on the nature of life and God dozens of times in their lives.
>>66240992you know, and I know but from prior experience I can tell most of this thread is horrible at identifying trolls.
>>66241023First, I suggested that because those posts are based off the 6th edition material and Liber Chaotica is pretty key to that.Second, that part is written by Volkmar the Grim so the mad author thing doesn't even matter. Is an Empire army themed on a knightly order entirely bad taste? As in, would the State Troop models and their uniforms too tied to Imperial soldiery to represent auxiliaries for an Order-themed army? The common soldiery being mercenaries or ideologically committed permanent, professional soldiers rather than drawn up from some kind of indenture.
>>66241177Not really. I mean the most famous knightly order had an entire country AND army dedicated to it.

>>66241866Thanquol is also cruel and cute but also funny
Someone asked about how the Bretonnians interact with the old gods. The only source I can recall that goes into it in detail is Knights of the Grail.-Sigmar is not worshiped by Bretonnians.-Myrmidia is not popular among the ruling class but has some peasant adherents; her role is mostly held by the Lady and so her relevance is low.-Taal & Rhya are popular among farmers and hunters; some outlaws are particularly faithful to Taal.-Manaan is kept by sailors. Some actually give him more favor than the Lady. It's generally held that while the Lady is the god paramount over Bretonnia, the sea is Manaan's to rule.-Ranald is pretty much exclusively a god for peasants. Oddly he's more popular with merchants than in the Empire, perhaps because in this country they're the downtrodden winkling the nobility out of what they can.-Morr is well-respected among peasants and Gardens are where corpses are buried. The cult is well-received due to its opposition to necromancy, a recurring problem in Bretonnia.-Shallya is the most important goddess for peasants by far, even above the Lady, and they view her as particularly inclined towards them. The center of the Shallyan cult in the Old World is in Bretonnia, and yearly pilgrimages attract (and kill) many thousands. Some peasants associate Shallya and the Lady through folk-theology - asserting in some cases that the Lady serves Shallya in directing the nobility to be good, but this heresy is not tolerated.
>>66245005There is a sigmarite temple in Bretonnia. With a small but stable following

>>66245046>They're not "real" Bretonnians.Do we not eat the same frogs, mon frère?
>>66245005Oh, I forgot poor Ulric. He's not well-received in Bretonnia. The nobility don't really go in for his savagery and his 'wolves and winter' angle is sinister in a country whose climate is generally pretty pleasant.
>>66245005There's a short story called 'Who Mourns a Necromancer' that's set in Gisoreux and features a High Priest of Verena and a priest of Morr. While we're on the subject of sources of information.

The party isn't actually expected to engage this thing, right?
>>66246949do you know what a non sequitur is anon?
>>66246949I feel like they keep forgetting their own size rules.I'm totally fine with the basilisk eviscerating a party that attempts to engage it in melee (humans start with way too many fate points anyway) but the adventure seems to imply that it's beatable in a straight fight. I thought it was only hitting with 25 WS, but its melee is 45. Brutal.
>>66247239It has pitiful Dodge (10), and its size confers a +10 to hit in Melee and a +40 to hit at Ranged. It also has very low Initiative (15) so maybe the intention is for the party to be able to front-load all their damage and have the thugs soak a few of its attacks before the party starts being threatened with insta-gibs? IDK might be do-able.
>>66247379Ah, the old monster hunter adage:Don't get hit; hit it until it dies.
>>66247379Can it not 'parry' with its Melee skill?I mean, that'd make sense, but I can't see anything to say that it has to use its dodge.

>>66245005With Ranald, it probably doesn't hurt that Handrich is pretty explicitly a middle-class deity, in all the senses that the Empire and Marienburg knows it as. The Brothers of Handrich have a few outposts in Couronne and I think Brionne, but they're new and having trouble establishing. They're foreign in the same way Sigmar is foreign.
>>66248155Lexicanum claims that Handrich is worshiped as Affiache in Bretonnia, but I can't find a source on it. Either way kinda fun difference I suppose, especially if you want to set up Bretonnian merchants as being distinct from Empire ones.
