Argiefag here. I just finished my 5th mini, and this is my first time doing highlights and on TMM as well. I should maybe add a highlight to the TMM gold with TMM silver, but I'm not sure of it.
I'm looking forward to buying a matte varnish because it seems that you have to shake your Citadel wash after it stays idle for 5 minutes. That was my bad, because I was using a hair drier between each wash layer and I didn't shake it up.

I found a store that's near me, which is fucking amazing. However, while I'm eager for Warhammer minis, they're still pretty overpriced in my opinion. I just dream to buy one. I dream with buying a Death Guard army. I fucking love them so much.

Argentina has none of that, unfortunately. Yeah, I did find a good amount in Facebook, but they're so far away and people actually tend to be jew about stuff. Not always you get what you want, and most of the stuff is old school as shit.
Argentina's Warhammer stuff is not underdeveloped per se, but it is a very small community.

Glazing is just the technique of thinning down a paint and then applying a thin (ie little paint on your brush), translucent layer of it. There is no "recipe".

You can use water, but often pigment will split when using water, so using any sort of paint medium like in your pic, Lahmian medium, or a glazing medium, can help you thin the paint without it going splotchy.

I made a couple of treasure markers last year for frostgrave (fully painted since, but this is the only picture I have atm).

I took a blister from reaper called magic items, some bits from WHFB and bases to make these.

You can also get markers cut from acrylic glass for all sort of games that work very well as markers. Stuff like a tiny standard or and arrow just painting down at the gaming table in neon green acrylic glass for example.

It was a quick mock-up for a teacher in one of my FB groups that was trying to teach kids how to paint minis after school. After he bought one of the new marine starter sets the principal caught wind of it and told him that the minis were not allowed in school because they had guns. My idea was to chop off all the bolters and have them all holding dachshunds.

I hope you're still around, I was asleep!

The bases are a mix of wall filler paste (mine's italian, Stucco in Pasta if that helps), a smaller amount of pva glue for strength and a drop or two of water. It was hard to eyeball but essentially you want the consistency a little firmer than PVA itself, so it's very workable but doesn't level itself (or at least not quickly).

Slap it down thick enough for indentations, use a toothpick to make little furrows like the waves on sand dunes and then quickly sprinkle the shit out of it with baking soda. Don't use sand as it'll just end up looking like dirt due to the grain size.

Basecoat in Zandri, wash with a thinned down Seraphim Sepia and then drybrush bone to get the dunes to pop. Works nicely with detritus, I used bones, stone slabs, scarabs and other thematic pieces.
>>
Is there a way to use green stuff to create a good scale like effect? I want to convert some Melusai Blood Sisters into Sslyth for my Dark Eldar and I figured using some shardcarbines from the scourge kit would work for weapons, but I don't exactly want that elf skin showing through. My other option would be covering it with say a chainmail like effect with green stuff but more scales would obviously be better.
>>
>>64585679
Maybe try crosshatching. Layered scales (like roof tiles) would be more work but doable. Lay long rectangular strips atop each other like roof tiles and cut perpendicular to the length
>>
>>64583882
if you are posting from a phone they tend to reorient things automatically on upload.
>>
How are Eldar Banshee sculpts? They seems ancient, sure, but really sloppy, especially on the helmets.
>>
>>64586664
Personally, I don't like them, the details are sloppy, the sculpt itself isn't really good or anything.
They also suck rule-wise iirc, so I don't see a reason why you would want to buy them.
If you like Eldar and swords, Wraiths are a better option by a mile.

Working on Wonder Woman from Knight Models. goal is to have a WW2 esque foreground for her, like she's riding into battle. I'm pretty happy with the results thus far, long way to go though.
>>
>>64585679
What you want to do is lay down a layer of green stuff and then add a grid of diamonds on top.
The you start from the bottom row and push down the top corner of each diamon and shape the bottom of the scale how you want it. It's not super hard to do, but you need a proper sculpting tool that allows you to get a nice smooth finish (the first one I ever bought was from GW and was total crap for that as it had rough edges).

You obviously can't do large areas at once this way since you need to account for the time it takes to sculpt, but you can do one segment after another and if you leave a clean edge you can just pick up where you left off after the first layer dried.
>>
>>64586867
I was interested in buying Constantine from them and Darkseid for my brother but fuck they're expensive for such small minis.
>>
>>64586946
>for such small minis.
Yeah you are not just buying the mini you are also paying for the license.
Although with characters as popular as the DC and Marvel stuff you can find anything from Hero Clix to limited edition sideshow collectibles.

If you want minis that can represent those guys you can probably find someone useful in the HF catalog for Constantine at least. some kind of Private Dick type wearing a trenchcoat with the right paintjob should do.
Darkseid could be converted from any kind of muscled barbarian, ogre or other monster type figure.
Just a thought if you are looking for cheaper/gaming friendly alternatives.

Had something similar once when stripping some infinity models. Arm went down sink, but thankfully it has a massive bend at the bottom where the bit settled and I was able to unscrew the pipe and get it out.

I have since never scrubbed multi or small parts in that sink again without putting in the little catcher grate.
>>
>>64583447
I've used liquitex matte medium and the problem is that it isn't entire translucent. You want glazing medium. It's actually called that way, and guess what you use it for!

Matte medium works for diluting paint, though. It's quite thick so you may need to add water.
>>
How do I drybrush effectively? Every time I try, I feel like the dry paint ends up covering the model instead of just getting caught on edges.
>>
>>64587135
It's all about brush control and paint thickness.
You actually want the paint to be a little (depending on tastes) thicker than what you'd use for layering.
It should also be noted that drybrush isn't a "instand edge higlight tool", but it's more of a layer+highlight thing, if done correctly, that is to say that it will cover anything that's not a recess, but it will be move obvious on sharp edges.
Two things to notice: you might be better off using either two different drybrushes to give the mini a little more detail and depth, or to do the highlights manually afterwards.

Trying to ask this again. Did anyone here used mr. hobby metallics and super metallics? Are they better/worse than vallejo metal color for example? Maybe japanese anons here used them and can tell me about mr.hobby metallics. I have a great range of them in my local store so I'm thinking about getting them but want to hear some opinions on them.

Why don't you just ask at your store?

just bought the following off of my friends for a total of $60:
Genestealer Primus
Magus
Patriarch + familiars
2Overkill genestealers

Only problem is that the Patriarch has most of his big rending claws broken off. Any conversion ideas to replace them with something cooler, or replace the hands entirely?

Not him, but the grainy detail and the white little dots around are super weird. The highlights on the knife are kinda lacking, but you definitely need to get a bit less messy with how to do them. There are some random 'stains' as well, like under the shoulder (front view) and the jetpack. I love the shoulder pattern you did, but there are details that you gotta fix up, for example, the purple wax stamp has purple over the yellow of the leg. The skull insignia on the helmet looks strange with the shade you placed.

Use less paint. A lot less paint. You should have to do 5 strokes before even starting to see an effect
>>
So I got a mix of metal and plastic minis in a bargain bin that I want to strip back to basic (or as close to as possible).

I've been told plain metholaeted spirits is the best to us (Aussie here, not many good product apparently) and for best results leave it for 24-48 hours undisturbed then scrub with an old toothbrush.

Anything I've missed?

I haven't used stynylrez, but the vallejo ones worked fine without thinning, with a cheap 0.5 airbrush and tankless compressor I got just to try airbrush priming. If it is too warm you might have to add a bit of flow aid to them. Spray with 1.2 bar and you should be fine, I wouldn't use a smaller needle either. From what I heard, the vallejo primers strip a lot easier than stynylrez.
>>
>>64589290
vallejo. get a big bottle of grey, a small bottle of white/black/red/whatever, thats basically all you need.
plus some flow improver if you dont have some yet.
>>
>>64589366
Oh good, since I already bought some of that. I think my second hand airbrush is 0.5 as well so hopefully its in working order.

>>
>>64589290
Vallejo's gloss black primer was bloody awful when I tried it. A rubbery, unsandable film that desired adhesion to the model in the way Rees-Mogg desires union with Europe. Stynylrez (aka Ultimate Primer) on the other hand is pretty good. Though if you don't need to stay acrylic and can deal with some vapours then you'll do even better diluting Mr Surfacer (1200 or 1500) with Mr Levelling Thinner.

most compressors you see are the same exact chassis with a different brand sticker. The only real difference in most cases is tank vs. tankless. I use a tankless myself, but it's a preference thing.

I glued some chunky bits of sand onto the base and then dipped the entire base into a finer sand and brushed/picked it all off the model proper with a shit brush and sculpting tools. Then after priming: a couple layers of brown and beige drybrushing, put some patches of glue down and applied static grass, superglued old brush bristles for the tall grass, then put a little watered down glue for sticking on the orange flock. Make sure to brush off loose static grass before you seal it.

The problem you're going to encounter is cleanup; all that overspray dust has to go somewhere. It creeps up on you: start of a spray session everything's fine, an hour later the room is covered in a layer of fine dried acrylic. With a booth, you don't really have to deal with that.

Just bought some second hand MURREHNS and boy are they in bad shape.
Some of them have marks from removing stuff after glueing. Those I managed to more or less fix. Teo others have such a bad case of grainy primer that it seems as if something else happened to them. Even if I should probably strip them, I am going to paint them as they are now, and make the worst one a sargeant because I am a sentimental retard.
No pics because it is already dark and the lightning in my place is so horrible I cannot take one worth shit

you could add a skate or smaller wheels to the front if you think it looks a little janky without additional support.

Or add a central beam with spokes, like a repurposed ladder that the strings are tied to. So even if the rats don't pull it it won't keel over.

What is the difference between Vallejo medium and Vallejo Flow Improver?
>>
>>64595457
just guessing, but I'd imagine the flow improver breaks the surface tension.
>>
Airbrush and basically everything else for it arrived today... except for the spray booth.

I'm definitely not going to use it for priming until the booth's here, but is there any harm in putting up a box on its side to spray into for a day or two, for acrylics? There's a fan and open window in the room.
>>
So I'm sick of procrastinating after not painting for almost a couple years. Part of the reason this has gone on is inconvenient weather, so I bought some Vallejo brush on primer (both black and grey).

Is applying it all that tricky? I watched a couple videos and it didn't seem that bad. As I understand it, you don't have to thin it, right m
>>
>>64595785
I just slop it on there and then break any bubbles that i see before it dries. no thinning, and one coat is fine - it dries uneven looking but just basecoat over it and you're golden. It's how I do armies in winter, after my spraycan backlog clears
>>
>>64589987
Nah not a jones.
>>
>>64583447
I use Vallejo glazing medium + a little water. Using water only will essentially create a wash (aka shade) and run into recesses. A glaze will evenly coat the surface.
>>
>>64595785
I'm a newfag as well, but one tip is to never shake the brush on primer because it creates bubbles. Never thin it as well. As the anon above said, one coat is fine. Slap it on a brush and spread it across.
>>
>>64595169
Oh, if you've got a cup already even better; you can clean by backflushing as normal. Grab a bottle or two if you plan on doing a big prime or undercoating session; the plastic ones are really cheap.

Rustoleum 2x primer white if your mini is going to be predominantly bright colors (white, yellow, azure, etc.), otherwise black. Do NOT get rustoleum paint + primer. GW sprays are all primers and are good, but waay overpriced.

I could see repurposed things they've picked up from raids like doors, windowframe or even furniture.
If you do ballustrades you could also put skaven shields on there or maybe even try your hand at having the frames covered with leather/fur, by soaking paper in pva and layering it over the frames.

If you make another one you could also have the basic shape be triangular. That'd be a neat detail.

Oh you sweet summer child. I lived in both Buryatia and Japan. Believe me, buryat women are waaaaaay uglier than japanese. The facial structure is different (higher cheekbones, flatter face with more pronounced cheeks), they don't take care of themselves as much or as skillfully, and most importantly have the troglodyte mentality of a russian woman.
I mean, if you're lucky you can find a qt, but the default options are not really inviting.

Yeah, that's one that I went to, to buy the VMC paints. It's pretty good yeah. They're moving to the upper floor next month to a bigger place since the man's place is booming with sales. The guy is pretty serious and cool. He showed me multiple affordable minis as well. I bought a lot of components from his store. He also has great hobby stuff, even static grass and among other fancy stuff.
The one that I found is called J&T Hero Factory. I'm checking on prices between both, but they're probably just the same in prices. J&T seems to even offer painting classes and Warhammer games, which is what Imaginario Games wants to do with this place upgrade.
Also, how's things in Chile? Did the cold finally give you lads a break or is it hot as always?

Looks like an undercoat of blue with a black or grey wash, then wet blending of another shade of blue. Could also be shades of grey since some companies Greys are blue wet and then go blue grey when dry. Vallejo paints do this and its mildly annoying.
