Is this what I need to make glazes?Whats the recipe?
Argiefag here. I just finished my 5th mini, and this is my first time doing highlights and on TMM as well. I should maybe add a highlight to the TMM gold with TMM silver, but I'm not sure of it.I'm looking forward to buying a matte varnish because it seems that you have to shake your Citadel wash after it stays idle for 5 minutes. That was my bad, because I was using a hair drier between each wash layer and I didn't shake it up.I found a store that's near me, which is fucking amazing. However, while I'm eager for Warhammer minis, they're still pretty overpriced in my opinion. I just dream to buy one. I dream with buying a Death Guard army. I fucking love them so much.
Where do you guys get your bits aside from ebay or hoard o bits? The latter doesnt have jack shit
>>64583637You can buy cheap second hand warhammer minis from ebay. Gotta strip them first, but still.
Working on melusai, still unsure of what skin to give the archer. Also some ECW.
>>64583798Argentina has none of that, unfortunately. Yeah, I did find a good amount in Facebook, but they're so far away and people actually tend to be jew about stuff. Not always you get what you want, and most of the stuff is old school as shit. Argentina's Warhammer stuff is not underdeveloped per se, but it is a very small community.
>>64583447Glazing is just the technique of thinning down a paint and then applying a thin (ie little paint on your brush), translucent layer of it. There is no "recipe".You can use water, but often pigment will split when using water, so using any sort of paint medium like in your pic, Lahmian medium, or a glazing medium, can help you thin the paint without it going splotchy.
>>64583825I fucking hate it, even turned the picture the right way and still turns up wrong.
>>64583839Get a 3d printer then. Only $600!
>>64584064Good joke, anon. H-haha!
Hey guys, I need tips on how to make Robes to complete the Fallen Angel for my Deathwatch Kill Team for Kill Team. Also, how many purity seals I should make for him?
>>64583637I never really liked silver highlights to gold, but to each their own.Gave the armor a coat of nuln oil. But basically repostin.
Working on the mane of the Moon Mangler. Wings should be coming in soon
>>64584183You can use baking parchment paper to flatten greenstuff without it sticking to a surface
>>64584183Alternatively, use vaseline to prevent greenstuff sticking.
>Always had trouble with shading>Decide to just try putting some of the shade paint into my airbrush and seeing what happens>Get the coverage I've been trying to get>Go back and block in parts that wouldn't have shade on them with the base colorThe airbrush is an effective tool when you use it right.
>>64584211Blades look boring. Paint the elenses.
>>64584250I will they are obviously not done...
>>64584240You're not supposed to shade with an airbrush. It gives an even layer without retreating into recesses, which is the whole point of shades.
>>64584211Where are those blades from?
>>64584266I know, anon. But ti gave the look I was trying to get on the mode. I'm still struggling at doing recess shading because I can't ever seem to get a brush point to stay beyond the first stroke.
>>64583447>>64583842Will this work though
>>64584099Man, where can I find helms like this for heroic scale?Nobody has this sort of thing.
>>64584318bless you anon
>>64584240>airburshI warned you all about this.
>>64584211Yeah, this was a friend who told me about Silver highlights on Gold. I never tried it, however, it might be a bit odd to imagine.Goddamn, I love those minis lad. The red looks so good with the gold. I would personally do gold/yellow details on the cloak/skirt thing. Pic related.>>64584337I wish I knew, anon. I'm a huge armorfag/helmetfag. It's why I love Death Guards so much. Their helmet designs are cool as fuck.
>>64584364Warned us about what, a tool in a person's kit?
Working on some major ideas involving some pirate stuff, and I've got to ask, roughly what model size for ships would be equal to standard 40k models?
>>64584382It's a meme that needs to stop spreading.
>>64584379That looks pretty neat, Argiefag.

>>64584379I really like those designs anon. I might try it, though I don't know if I can do it especially with metallic paint.
>>6458441740k players can't figure out how to use them so other 40k players think airbrushes are bad.
>64572504Thanks a ton, anon! I've been desperately trying to find this.
>>64584441I trust in you, anon. You can do it. Nothing is impossible.
>>64584330Try it out anon. Put resulting mix on your nail. It is supposed to be so mixed , that you should see the nail underneath paint easily, but it should be just slightly tinted.
Need to finish basing, but otherwise done
>>64583637wargaming.cl. a chilean store, can send stuff from here, i think it has done it beforehell, if you want we can trade stuff via mail if you want it tho, you just gotta find me :D
So I got a new paint brush and the longest bristle seems to be at the outside of the brush rather than in the centreis there anyway to correct this?I alredy shorted the bristle by a tiny tiny bit which did improve it (previously it was too thin and long to have paint on it)
>>64584758Hey, neighbor! Thanks a lot for the link. I'll be on the search for that, and get my doubts answered when I get in contact with them tomorrow. However, some prices hurt my organs a lot, but they're still cheaper than the store that I go to frequently. To keep it short and sweet, the Age of Sigmar magazine + mini would cost me almost twice the price that's showing in wargaming.cl. Crazy shit.Trading? I don't think I can trade anything as good to match you. I only have bootleg stuff.
>>64582604what game are you playing?I made a couple of treasure markers last year for frostgrave (fully painted since, but this is the only picture I have atm).I took a blister from reaper called magic items, some bits from WHFB and bases to make these. You can also get markers cut from acrylic glass for all sort of games that work very well as markers. Stuff like a tiny standard or and arrow just painting down at the gaming table in neon green acrylic glass for example.
To the anon that requested a grot hanging out with some killa kanz, I present to you "Where Da Mek Fings Iz". I apologize for not using any of the awesome kans you made, but I wanted side profiles and had to find various references to composite together something resembling a pair of walking scrap piles and a git dangerously close to getting stepped on.
>>64585023Not him, but I love you for all of your work.
>>64584971 i have a lot of death guard minis unpainted and painted, my significant other needs some fancy stuff from argentina, like leather quality shoes and stuff, so yeah, you just need to find me, i joined the last secret santa if that helpsthe store has some GW prices, but we have a couple more that dont have online storesi went today to wargaming.cl, ended buying 1 small paint that i lost, and to other store, entrejuegos, that has cheaper minis than wargaming but theyre the normie store, also some others have minis too like mirax.cl or others on facebook
>>64585069>i have a lot of death guard minis unpainted and painted>mfwI'll try to find you, anon. I'll try my hardest.
There was a synthwave marine template posted here a while ago. This is my 1st attempt.Debating whether to go full edge highlight or push the blends further. Doing both may take too much time
>>64585103lol, i like death guard aswell, just not enough time to paint, and currently painting blackstone fortressjust ask the stores, hopefully theyll help ya, try to find some places, theres this place on instagram i follow that play games and stuff in argentina, no idea where you live, if youre in mendoza, a small trip to santiago shouldnt be that bad, but yeah, its all about the money tho
>>64585148the blend is nice, I don't really feel the synthwave thing though. Looks more like a dawn raid camo scheme
>>64585148The scheme is hella cool, but yeah, not seing the synthwave aspect of it. The colors seem to be a bit too muted.
>>64585167>>64585184Guess I gotta push the contrast further and the saturation higher
>>64585148Maybe just add some hot pink lighting bolts on the shoulders and one David Bowie style from the front of the helmet over one eye. Also, the solid grey gun seems out of place. Could also throw some more teal on the kneepads, but that might be too much.
>>64585157Me and you, anon. Death Guards are the shit.I'm quite into armors, so Death Guards go right by my alley. However, outside of Warhammer stuff, Dark Souls/Medieval heavy armor is my shit. Also, are you the anon who gifted anon Milka chocolate?
>>64585195check out the Vallejo Model Color Fluo colors.I don't think you can push it far enough with regular paints to get the look you'd want if you are going for synthwave.
>>64585234>sharpiedogbolter.jpg That's neat. Which chapter does he hail from?
>>64585234I had no idea what colour to do the gun. To go tho whole way, I think it needs to be like NMM metal with a teal tint, but theres no way I can do that for how ever many marines Ive got. Might just free hand some random geometry on it and call it
>>64585257nop, my gift wasnt posted unfortunally, but i got some stuff, and i sent mine, tracking was ok and everything, just the anon didnt posted any pics, but my instagram has the items i sent, not posting here because well, its 4chin
>>64585279>Might just free hand some random geometry on it and call itcould paint a grid on it
>made tremendous progress on my new vostroyans due to being snowed in the last few days>just need to do highlights and faces, excited to finish after completing my Commander. >power finally went out at 10:40pm
>>64585275It was a quick mock-up for a teacher in one of my FB groups that was trying to teach kids how to paint minis after school. After he bought one of the new marine starter sets the principal caught wind of it and told him that the minis were not allowed in school because they had guns. My idea was to chop off all the bolters and have them all holding dachshunds.
>>64585356Paint via candlelight friendo. Just like the trenches
>>64585370>minis were not allowed in school because they had guns.Would he have the same complaints about historical miniatures? I mean an argument could be made that that would be educational at least.Sounds like an idiot though.I had something similar happen when people got upset about a specific font I used in a yearbook.
>>64585378I’m all out of batteries, candles and just have my phone which I’m saving for shitposting
>>64585023hey! oh my gosh, that looks great! dont worry bout not using my kanz, they still look incredible!thanks for the hard work, it's really cute :)
>>64582715I hope you're still around, I was asleep! The bases are a mix of wall filler paste (mine's italian, Stucco in Pasta if that helps), a smaller amount of pva glue for strength and a drop or two of water. It was hard to eyeball but essentially you want the consistency a little firmer than PVA itself, so it's very workable but doesn't level itself (or at least not quickly).Slap it down thick enough for indentations, use a toothpick to make little furrows like the waves on sand dunes and then quickly sprinkle the shit out of it with baking soda. Don't use sand as it'll just end up looking like dirt due to the grain size.Basecoat in Zandri, wash with a thinned down Seraphim Sepia and then drybrush bone to get the dunes to pop. Works nicely with detritus, I used bones, stone slabs, scarabs and other thematic pieces.
Is there a way to use green stuff to create a good scale like effect? I want to convert some Melusai Blood Sisters into Sslyth for my Dark Eldar and I figured using some shardcarbines from the scourge kit would work for weapons, but I don't exactly want that elf skin showing through. My other option would be covering it with say a chainmail like effect with green stuff but more scales would obviously be better.
>>64585679Maybe try crosshatching. Layered scales (like roof tiles) would be more work but doable. Lay long rectangular strips atop each other like roof tiles and cut perpendicular to the length
>>64583882if you are posting from a phone they tend to reorient things automatically on upload.
How are Eldar Banshee sculpts? They seems ancient, sure, but really sloppy, especially on the helmets.
>>64586664Personally, I don't like them, the details are sloppy, the sculpt itself isn't really good or anything. They also suck rule-wise iirc, so I don't see a reason why you would want to buy them.If you like Eldar and swords, Wraiths are a better option by a mile.
>>64586794That's what I thought, thanks.
Working on Wonder Woman from Knight Models. goal is to have a WW2 esque foreground for her, like she's riding into battle. I'm pretty happy with the results thus far, long way to go though.
>>64585679What you want to do is lay down a layer of green stuff and then add a grid of diamonds on top.The you start from the bottom row and push down the top corner of each diamon and shape the bottom of the scale how you want it. It's not super hard to do, but you need a proper sculpting tool that allows you to get a nice smooth finish (the first one I ever bought was from GW and was total crap for that as it had rough edges). You obviously can't do large areas at once this way since you need to account for the time it takes to sculpt, but you can do one segment after another and if you leave a clean edge you can just pick up where you left off after the first layer dried.
>>64586867I was interested in buying Constantine from them and Darkseid for my brother but fuck they're expensive for such small minis.
>>64586946>for such small minis.Yeah you are not just buying the mini you are also paying for the license.Although with characters as popular as the DC and Marvel stuff you can find anything from Hero Clix to limited edition sideshow collectibles. If you want minis that can represent those guys you can probably find someone useful in the HF catalog for Constantine at least. some kind of Private Dick type wearing a trenchcoat with the right paintjob should do.Darkseid could be converted from any kind of muscled barbarian, ogre or other monster type figure.Just a thought if you are looking for cheaper/gaming friendly alternatives.
>Be me>After seeing the work of our resident Robot Jones Decide to strip paint on my Pinups and try again>Soaked them in green stuff overnight>Brushing off in sink >Water is running>Arm Flys off>I figured the glue would be weakened its all good>Arm hits edge of sink, >Right next to plug>Right next to plug that is not in the sink>Arm bounces and lands in the water>Into the running water slowly draining towards the drain>I try to poke the arm with my finger to stop it>water displaces as my finger enters the water and pushes it closer>not once, not twice, Thrice. >Little mini arm goes down the sink never to be seen again.WELP i'm done painting for the night/week/month
>>64586988Will look into this, thank you.
>>64587004Had something similar once when stripping some infinity models. Arm went down sink, but thankfully it has a massive bend at the bottom where the bit settled and I was able to unscrew the pipe and get it out.I have since never scrubbed multi or small parts in that sink again without putting in the little catcher grate.
>>64583447I've used liquitex matte medium and the problem is that it isn't entire translucent. You want glazing medium. It's actually called that way, and guess what you use it for!Matte medium works for diluting paint, though. It's quite thick so you may need to add water.
How do I drybrush effectively? Every time I try, I feel like the dry paint ends up covering the model instead of just getting caught on edges.
>>64587135It's all about brush control and paint thickness. You actually want the paint to be a little (depending on tastes) thicker than what you'd use for layering. It should also be noted that drybrush isn't a "instand edge higlight tool", but it's more of a layer+highlight thing, if done correctly, that is to say that it will cover anything that's not a recess, but it will be move obvious on sharp edges. Two things to notice: you might be better off using either two different drybrushes to give the mini a little more detail and depth, or to do the highlights manually afterwards.
I will eventually convert Vaylund Cal.due to his S5 T6 and "bulky rule" from older editions should I use regular or terminator armor?termie looks more fitting, but I don't wanna piss my opponents by magically fitting my "terminator" into a rhino, razorback, etc.
>>64587004Check the U-bend trap. It's possible it's sat in the bottom if it had enough weight.
Finished the first of my custards
>>64587398Why the blue shading on the armor? Also, the cape seems a little off, maybe if you blended some of the reds...The rest seems fine.

>>64587566Damn, very nice effect.
Hi /wip/.Fledgling painter here. I'd like to try out a paint thinner but I'm overwhelmed by the many different thinners offered by brands such as AK or Vallejo.Where do I start? Can you recommend a specific product? (I do not have an airbrush)Many thanks in advance
>>64587885I just use water desu
>>64587885If you're using acrylics, just use water for now. For enamels, tamiya has some stuff I think
Does anyone have any examples of battle damaged Eldar vehicles?A small piece came off a jetbike and got lost in the carpet so instead of trying to find it I thought I would just make it look like it was shot off.
>>64588058I thought they repaired them by singing or some shit
Trying to ask this again. Did anyone here used mr. hobby metallics and super metallics? Are they better/worse than vallejo metal color for example? Maybe japanese anons here used them and can tell me about mr.hobby metallics. I have a great range of them in my local store so I'm thinking about getting them but want to hear some opinions on them.
>>64588113Why don't you just ask at your store?
Painted up a Lamenter. Decided to try just drybrushing the armour instead of edge highlighting. Pretty happy with how the chapter badge turned out too. What do you guys think?
>>64588520Let me know how unlucky he is
>>64587566How did you get that? Texture paint highlights?
>>64588113Isn't Mr. Hobby lacquer paints? you better ask the gunpla general before using gook paints

>>64588791Is it too rough? Or looks unfinished?
>>64588946its too chalky. drybrushing on powerarmor always looks like shit, though.
>>64588946Not him, but the grainy detail and the white little dots around are super weird. The highlights on the knife are kinda lacking, but you definitely need to get a bit less messy with how to do them. There are some random 'stains' as well, like under the shoulder (front view) and the jetpack. I love the shoulder pattern you did, but there are details that you gotta fix up, for example, the purple wax stamp has purple over the yellow of the leg. The skull insignia on the helmet looks strange with the shade you placed.
>>64589008>>64589012Ah okay, thanks for the feedback! Might pick up some more of these little blindboxes and try doing a cleaner one.
>>64588622Yeah, thanks for advice. I know that mr.hobby metallics are lacquer-based but I have a dozen of their non-lacquer acrylics and they are pretty good. So, I want try other stuff from their range but don't want to do it blindly.
>>64587135Use less paint. A lot less paint. You should have to do 5 strokes before even starting to see an effect
So I got a mix of metal and plastic minis in a bargain bin that I want to strip back to basic (or as close to as possible).I've been told plain metholaeted spirits is the best to us (Aussie here, not many good product apparently) and for best results leave it for 24-48 hours undisturbed then scrub with an old toothbrush.Anything I've missed?
Who makes a good primer for newfags to airbrushing? I hear Vallejo is good but needs to be thinned and badger is retard proof right out of the bottle, can anons confirm or deny this?
>>64589094https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_TQJ5Sh730Try this for yellow
anybody have a guide to magnets size chart ect?
>>64589290I haven't used stynylrez, but the vallejo ones worked fine without thinning, with a cheap 0.5 airbrush and tankless compressor I got just to try airbrush priming. If it is too warm you might have to add a bit of flow aid to them. Spray with 1.2 bar and you should be fine, I wouldn't use a smaller needle either. From what I heard, the vallejo primers strip a lot easier than stynylrez.
>>64589290vallejo. get a big bottle of grey, a small bottle of white/black/red/whatever, thats basically all you need.plus some flow improver if you dont have some yet.
>>64589366Oh good, since I already bought some of that. I think my second hand airbrush is 0.5 as well so hopefully its in working order.
How do you guys paint skintoness for genestealer cultists? Please post me some inspiration
>>64589290>he isn't priming with gesso
>>64589290Vallejo's gloss black primer was bloody awful when I tried it. A rubbery, unsandable film that desired adhesion to the model in the way Rees-Mogg desires union with Europe. Stynylrez (aka Ultimate Primer) on the other hand is pretty good. Though if you don't need to stay acrylic and can deal with some vapours then you'll do even better diluting Mr Surfacer (1200 or 1500) with Mr Levelling Thinner.
Ideas to make this more Tson?

>>64589447I wanna zenithal prime my dude. Yes, I know its a meme, but as my planned paint scheme for plague marines is various washes over off white armor panels the zenithal will make it look not as flat
>>64587004Wow, is that Jones? It's a good deal better than the last few he's posted on here (which are still dead good, y'know? That Fade is just better.).
>>64589876Definitely prime with gesso then. You can airbrush it on (there's a beginner's guide on dakkadakka), and it clogs details less than alternatives.
Any tips on airbrush compressors? I have a cheap tankless one but it overheats too quickly so I can't paint for too long.
>>64590147most compressors you see are the same exact chassis with a different brand sticker. The only real difference in most cases is tank vs. tankless. I use a tankless myself, but it's a preference thing.

>>64593079Is that a redwall tabletop game?
>>64593157I glued some chunky bits of sand onto the base and then dipped the entire base into a finer sand and brushed/picked it all off the model proper with a shit brush and sculpting tools. Then after priming: a couple layers of brown and beige drybrushing, put some patches of glue down and applied static grass, superglued old brush bristles for the tall grass, then put a little watered down glue for sticking on the orange flock. Make sure to brush off loose static grass before you seal it.

>>64593551it's burrows and badgers, i think?
>>64591983The problem you're going to encounter is cleanup; all that overspray dust has to go somewhere. It creeps up on you: start of a spray session everything's fine, an hour later the room is covered in a layer of fine dried acrylic. With a booth, you don't really have to deal with that.

>>64594656among others, it will work yeah
seeking some critique on this flame effect, personally i'm not to convinced but am i just being picky?
The idea is good, but they blending is what fails
I accidentally a siphon fed airbrush to learn with. How bad did I fuck up?
>>64594869Not at all; you'll want to pick up a second bottle/cap set specifically for cleaner so you can do color changes quickly (swap to the cleaner bottle, spray through, swap to color 2).
>>64594798I think it looks pretty good for miniature flames. It's not "convincing" for a few reasons (flames don't have black parts, etc.) but I don't think I've ever seen flame painted in 3d with anything approaching verisimilitude
>>64595049Mine came with a just a metal cup, so would it be a good idea to buy some bottles as well?
Just bought some second hand MURREHNS and boy are they in bad shape. Some of them have marks from removing stuff after glueing. Those I managed to more or less fix. Teo others have such a bad case of grainy primer that it seems as if something else happened to them. Even if I should probably strip them, I am going to paint them as they are now, and make the worst one a sargeant because I am a sentimental retard. No pics because it is already dark and the lightning in my place is so horrible I cannot take one worth shit
>>64595194if they're plastic use isopropyl and if it's metal use acetone to strip them. Unless the models themselves are fucked up they should be as good as new after a quick scrub with a toothbrush.
>>64589447I tried that the other day and it scraped off as if I applied paint without primer
>>64594798needs more blending, it looks too cartooney imhoguys, I need /adv/ice. I wanna build a rat-drawn chariot/sleigh, but I don't know how to procede further from picrelated. the wheels look silly without support; like e.g. a breton chariot would have from the horse. the plan was to use glue-soaked string like the ropes you have on dogsleds
>>64594798it needs more yellow/orange than red
>>64595239What was your mixture, and what brand of gesso?
>>64595260you could add a skate or smaller wheels to the front if you think it looks a little janky without additional support.Or add a central beam with spokes, like a repurposed ladder that the strings are tied to. So even if the rats don't pull it it won't keel over.
What is the difference between Vallejo medium and Vallejo Flow Improver?
>>64595457just guessing, but I'd imagine the flow improver breaks the surface tension.
Airbrush and basically everything else for it arrived today... except for the spray booth. I'm definitely not going to use it for priming until the booth's here, but is there any harm in putting up a box on its side to spray into for a day or two, for acrylics? There's a fan and open window in the room.
So I'm sick of procrastinating after not painting for almost a couple years. Part of the reason this has gone on is inconvenient weather, so I bought some Vallejo brush on primer (both black and grey). Is applying it all that tricky? I watched a couple videos and it didn't seem that bad. As I understand it, you don't have to thin it, right m
>>64595785I just slop it on there and then break any bubbles that i see before it dries. no thinning, and one coat is fine - it dries uneven looking but just basecoat over it and you're golden. It's how I do armies in winter, after my spraycan backlog clears
>>64589987Nah not a jones.
>>64583447I use Vallejo glazing medium + a little water. Using water only will essentially create a wash (aka shade) and run into recesses. A glaze will evenly coat the surface.
>>64595785I'm a newfag as well, but one tip is to never shake the brush on primer because it creates bubbles. Never thin it as well. As the anon above said, one coat is fine. Slap it on a brush and spread it across.
>>64595169Oh, if you've got a cup already even better; you can clean by backflushing as normal. Grab a bottle or two if you plan on doing a big prime or undercoating session; the plastic ones are really cheap.
>>64595399how does that look? I need some honest feedback here... the charioteer is a placeholder from my unprimed wlc, but I'll put one like him on therealso, will string soaked in glue hold its own weight+primer+coat of paint? or will it collapse onto the base?
>And then, I applied this paint with an airbrush!
>>64596716I think it would look better with the older, larger, metal giant rats, but it's still pretty fun. Chariot with no wheelguards or balustrade looks a little lazy
>>64595237Done. While it removed the grain, turns out the plastic beneath is fucked up in some parts. Worst offender is that the guy I eanted to make a sarge of has half a helmet mostly melted (it was not just primer covering the receses as I thought) Still going to play it straight and cover the damage with battle damage.
>>64596886>wheelguards or balustradeyou might be onto something... I thought it lacked a thing... but what could a skaven slipshod balustrade look like?
>>64596933more cocktail sticks broken up? some twine? check out the gnawholes, they have some skaven woodwork
>>64597038>gnawholesyou mean the repurposed screaming bell kit? I've glued sth like that toghether by the time I'm posting this, will add more string and affix it to the chariot before taking a pic.I hate waiting for things to dry.
>>64591321Depends on how thicc you went the first time and how thicc you'll go the second. If you're not careful you're running the risk of drowning the details in primer.
>>64596455Okay, I actually shook it up when it came in the mail a couple weeks ago, but it's sat still in my closet since then. I presumed that the bubbles have gone away at this point?
