I got a bit greedy (so I thought) during character gen and took a flaw that gave me minuses when I used cyber interface equipment.
(surgical rejection was part of it)
Or Mecha had a partially integrated system to assist piloting.
I had shitty wires and some combat penalties.

Alien armours started showing up and raiding.

A group of local hooligans get scooped up in an ever escalating life of crime that starts with trying to hack into disney and ends up trying to rob a central bank. As they flee the government the gang ends up in an abandoned military warehouse that has the skeleton of a mecha prototype that the govt deemed too expensive to maintain, but a bunch of 20 y/o criminally rich dumbasses mod to hell and back

It works pretty well with Roadstriker level mecha (power suit to landmate size).

Having just a couple of super robots distracts from street level cyberpunk shit, so does military style stuff associated with 'real robot'.

You can certainly just add some CP2020 stuff to any Mekton campaign, but unless you are focusing on the "high-tech low-life", it misses the cyberpunk bit.

Megazone 23, Dominion Tank Police, Bubblegum Crisis (and others) provide a look at what a cyberpunk style game with some smaller mecha can be like.

I'm not super keen on any of the established settings for Mekton (unless you count Jovian Chronicles).
A big thing for me is the mecha creation, which is also kind of like setting creation. A game set in Algol with pre-set Mekton designs (even if they are somewhat modular as in HBS Battletech) is not super interesting to me.

Now, a game that was a little more like Master of Orion crossed with Rule The Waves, but with giant robots - that is fucking awesome.

A game with a small group of player characters and a super robot or three versus the weird giant badguys, also including mecha customization, that would be pretty cool too.

Oh nah mekton can be absolutely insane and I am banking on that. I want to shift it from a grittier mafia-gta tone to a wonky saints row as the group begins to build out mecha, itd basically be a soft change in system.

How I’d control the landing is simply to have a hefty price and resource tag to whatever they want to make.

i liove Mecha

however,
in the USA, mecha gaming is down to Battletech or some odd homebrew.

i got the original MTZ stuff, and 3 expansions cheap at a Con. i like it, but beats me if i can get the drones that maker up the modern game community to play it.
