>im scared of getting grinched editionCalm your tits, it's only the 6th.
M Tur Tur your package has been posted.
>>63396060Wheres the imgur site with the SS posts anon? Why are you failing?
Jared of Smyrna, your package is shipping today! You should see it Monday.
Just posted in the other thread like a donk repostin here.Just finished some shootah boys including an index nob with kustom shootah and a boy with prototype boomshootah (shotgun)
Last thread died... Just got these old GW battle masters from ebay, after a paint strip not looking bad for £50, im planning to make free people aos army, any ideas for musicians for halberdiers? I was thinking turning drummer. Anyone had any experience with these?
>>63396473>flat fleshbut that's the most fun to paint
>Tracking says package collected a few hours ago>No post from anonHopefully he likes it.
>>63396589I hate it!
>>63396473And of course hes hidden. Heres thw boomshootah boy
>>63396619He hates it!
>>63396578Actually they're not entirely flat. I just did a very subtle highlight of flesh. Base in Knarloc Green, 50/50 Moot Green/Averland yellow, then 30/70 MG/AY.
>>63396491Hnng that's some sexy monopose plastic.Always found it cool how the Battle Masters archers and crossbowmen matched the style of the Heroquest expansion mercenaries, maybe an option if you ever wanted to add Greatswords or something. As for musicians, the monopose Skull Pass Goblins used to have a standard, then the musician had a gong kind of thing on a stick, so they both kind of looked like standard bearers. Might be an idea.
>>63396136/r9k/ has captured all the grinchs this year we should be fine.I'm more bothered by people posting huge boxes of stuff. I couldn't do that this year I went through my collection to find some cool models and included some hobby tools. I would like to think 8 models from different companies would be a nice gift to get. I would be happy with getting to paint models from different places. I don't like the idea of my match being disappointed when he sees a small package arrive instead of a magicians trunk complete with assistant inside.
>>63396783Don't worry, anon, only an asshat would be disappointed by getting that. It's about the spirit of giving and receiving thoughtful gifts rather than getting a buttload of stuff.
>>63396783Same here. I've sent 11 different minis, 6 unpainted and 5 painted by me and some candy. Now I'm afraid it would look like I'm a cheap bastard.
>>63396783I'm scared because I'm from the bottom of the world and I struggled sending my gift, so I suppose an Anon will get the same if not worse trouble sending me something, and yeah, don't care getting Scrooged, because you never really know the real situation of an Anon, so getting something back for me it's great Pic related but with different contents, as I said I already forwarded the track n° to ssbro and my stuff will arrive hopefully after Xmas
>>63396815Last year some guys got shafted and I didn't want to be the guy shafting this year. I got no prompt, so I took things I thought were cool and followed my /awg/ spirit. Now I'll end up with a trunk and feel like shit even though I still sent $30s of stuff.
>>63396898Did people not get matched by region this year? Every package has been international so far. Are people matched to gift each other or are they all in a daisy chain?>>63396895I sent you 6 unpainted plastic goblins and 5 painted orcs. Merry Christmas anon.p,s. I used saliva to thin my paints.
>>63396895I won't be fooled by cum candy again so you can stop sending it.
>>63396491Since the shield is going to be a pain to remove, maybe just a simple horn or trumpet in the halberd hand?
>>63396925SS bro said it was hard due to the spread and people aroundlike 5 guys from japan, 4 from south america, russians, canadians, shitposters and ofc yuropean and trumpland
>>63396996Last years guy did it pretty well. There wasn't so many packages crossing borders so early.>>63396952>He didn't hot glue his gifts before he sent them.
>>63396925It's daisy chain, also wishlists are considered.
>>63396783If someone is disappointed because he only got a "small" gift instead of a huge box full with new stuff then he did not understand the idea behind Secret Santa (especially this one) in the first place. Don't blame yourself if you actually put thought in your gift.To me a nice card or letter together with something small but nice is worth more to me than a sealed battleforce in an unpersonal box.
>>63396689Thanks ill look into them :D and im kinda liking the uniform look, may brake it up with beards visors and parchment on shields etc
>>63396968I like the sound of both any ideas on source for either?
Working up some more trees for an AoS army in a town that doesn't really play AoS.But God damn I wanted to paint up an autumn wood something fierce. Good to branch out into other projects anyhow, as it breaks up the monotony of dingy white armor or tyranids.
>>63397130The box is definitely personalized. I thought "What of my painting log do I think is really cool and want to paint?" and picked models based on that. Ordered a couple and sent it off. I like discovering new mini producers so trying different models interests me.
Looking to paint my Death Guard in a drowned look but need help with the armor. Was thinking of doing a coat of Tyhpus Corrosion with a light wash of Hexwraith and Nighthaunt before roughly drybrushing some silver on. Any ideas or suggestions?Thinking of painting the fleshy parts the colours of different sea life, like red for octopuses and grey for sharks and stuff. Pox will done in similar fashion and Foetid Drone will be done to look like it's made from ship wreck parts.
>>63397433Damn that looks good, unfortunately I don't have Vallejo available here. Only GW stuff.
>>63397523Vallejo was originally the paint company that made all of GW's paints for years. They separated and started selling them under different names. I believe there's a conversion chart somewhere that could assist you anon.
>my anon should be getting his package todayHere’s hoping he likes it.
>>63397353>Good to branch out ; - )
>>63397545>Vallejo was originally the paint company that made all of GW's paints for years. They separated and started selling them under different namesI did not know this. Every day is a school day. Thanks anon !
>>63397545you're thinking of coat d'arms
>>63397646Yep it's the reason why all the paints got their new copyrighted names. Model color and Game Color are also a good paints to work with for the project you're wanting to work on anon. All three are a bit more thicker to work with than G-dubz paints, but once you get used to them it'll become difficult to go back to using the GW paints. Hell, I'd prefer to work with michael's super cheap 69 cent paints than certain GW paints at this point.
>>63397777Nope Vallejo. Coat D'arms was the second company GW went to AFTER they split from Vallejo. This was around 2009-ish. Coat D'arms was later.
>>63396898Mine is on its way to a random German anon...
>>63397844well I learned something today
>>63397844>>63397876He might be wrong. Coat D'Arms sells the paints I was buying from GW circa 1992. They even still use the same pots...
>>63397922Oh, and they make the colours that GW stopped selling when they moved to hard hex pots, like the metallic purples and pinks. The ink they sell is nothing like the old GW stuff though.
>>63397844>This was around 2009-ishwhat are you on mate
>>63397922One of my oldest GW paints next to a Coat d'Arms.
>>63397789Been looking at conversion charts online and can't find any of the paints listed in that article. Like Sandy Brown, Rust and Fire Red.
>>63398002Paint pots have really stupid patents all over them. Coat D arms paints smell and act like those paints. It's an unique smell in paints as well. I would suggest they switched bottles because of licensing but kept making the paint.I've never heard of vallejo working with GW. Vallejo has always been a paint maker and have no reason to get in bed with GW. The anon above is wrong since his timeline is wildly off.
Anyway... I've started painting my pumpkin full of severed penises. Not sure how to highlight the red further without it losing its vibrancy. Might come back to it later.
>>63398055add white to the red. Lots of white.
>>63397052>Last years guy did it pretty well. There wasn't so many packages crossing borders so early.Yeah and that was a fuckton of work, I didn't expect it to be so much honestly. I'd never blame Santanon to not do every match manually like I did last year. Especially as it looks like we've got even more participants.Santanon, sending much love to you.
>>63398067worried that it may end up pink. Might have to try shading the recesses and highlighting straight to white.
>>63397545Which era of GW paint are you talking about? The original flip top paints (round & hex pot) were Coat d' Arms.
Post models you've stalled on
>>63398146I'm not sure that Valejo EVER made GW paints. They've been in competition since at least 2008. Maybe even earlier.
>>63398129Stop being a pussy. They're dicks, make 'em dicks.
>>63398045Is this of any use?
How would someone achieve a blend like pic related, i'm thinking of trying it on Celestines wings or maybe on some longer converted hair. I know the basic idea but what colors should i start with
>>63398127>>63397052Besides chileanon and a couple of guys from Japan everyone is within their own continent. I took the liberty to count new zealanders as aussies and turkey/rus-anons as europeans. Distance was my first concern with the matches, then came the wishes. (that was actually the harder part, and i could not get everything matched properly there).
>>63398255>I know the basic idea but what colors should i start withThe bright red on the right sure looks like Wild Rider Red.
>>63398178I'm following the art, alas. In that they, and the pumpkin are of a glowy, demonic type.
>>63398255Using an airbrush. Anything else is going to take forever and be out of your league if you're asking how to do this by hand.
>>63398175Maybe he's thinking of the clear plastic screw top paints? No way those were Vallejo, those paints were horrible.
>>63398262>Turkey and Slavs as Europeans.Sir, they are fighting words. Give me your name so I can come box your ears in.Continent is still pretty big. Couldn't you break it down to national?
>>63398315It's more fun to send things slightly further away for only a little bit more money. It would be a bit boring if you only got native stuff
>>63398262tfw sempai noticed me
>>63396473really nice imo
>>63398332I just realised it looks like I'm prentending to be Santanon here, this was not intentional
>>63398315I remember a brealdown of participants by country getting posted a couple of threads ago; I'm sure if he could have done that he would have.
>>63398332The only thing that changes is the candy and I'm allergic to most candies so it doesn't apply to me. I'm in the wargaming capital of the world, there isn't much exotic you could find for me. If anything native people have more access to niche sculptors websites and can send weirder stuff.Like this guys stuff https://www.bearsheadminis.com/store/p2/The_Thing_in_the_Crypt.html If I had discovered him earlier I would of included them in my package.
>>63398315>slavs>not europeanGo back to /pol bro.>>63398332I agree.Last year I got an anon from my country, which was fine but i couldn't add any local stuff to surprise him. This year my match is from the opposite side of yurop so I can be more crazy.
>>63398390I hope your not the German Anon I just posted to.Hobnobs. Hobnobs EVERYWHERE!
>>63398390sorry to hear about the sweets allergies anon, but I'm honestly looking forward to foreign snacks more than the models
>>63398422>Believing goblins share the share genetic base as PaladinsPleb detected. >>63398460No I'm not. I have candy fiend family members so any I get goes to them. I keep my allergy away from my gifter so he doesn't know I couldn't eat it. I even include candy in packages because I consider it a /tg/ tradition.
>>63398302It's more mixe trying to ask what colors I should use, i'm not intimately familiar with the vast ranges of colors from all the ranges. I know citadel won't have a good selection going into the pink/purple ranges>>63398276That's sorta what I rad thinking too, I figured id start with a base from a deeper red though since wild Rider is pretty shit coverage
>>63398315>>63398332As this Anon said, its more fun to get (and send ofc) stuff from other countries. This is an international platform after all.Besides, only GB had enough participants to keep it separate but i choose not to do that because the rest of Europe had only 1-3 guys from each country (only Germany had a couple more, still below 10 though).
>>63398334Is that from your SS?
>>63398262>>63398315>>63398332>It's more fun to send things slightly further away for only a little bit more money.I agree. Paired with an Australianon last year and got introduced to TIMTAMS and now I'm addicted to them. Actually last year I asked the participants if they only want to be matched in their own country to cut down on shipping costs.
>>63398500The best range for those are Scale 75. They are super matte and rich. That was mostly why I wondered so many Europoors were getting packages. GB is over represented and I would of expected most of them being matched up and then people who said international was okay would link to the europoors on the big island.Postage wasn't bad. I was expecting a tenner and it wasn't close. >>63398528I liked your system last year. It was your system that brought me back this year.
>>63398519nop, thats the stuff that my post office rejected for being dangerous materials, the oil could spill, the paints explode (that was what the post lady told me) i sent some boxes plus candy, i posted some pics around
>>63398129>>63398300I think he's attempting to be racist. hard to tell.
>>63398581>>63398519>>63398334chileanon here, the post office didnt let me send that stuff thru, also didnt allow me to send some chile spices because it had seeds and was a danger to texan flora and fauna :D
>>63398581Should of been fine within your country. Aerosols can't be shipped by standard post but paints can. Just tape the lids shut.
>>63398581Is it normal to show your post office what you are shipping? I just drop off taped packages at the office.
>>63398563So far only a few actually got their package already (at least only a few pics were posted). But i forwarded at least 40 tracking numbers during the last 2 days, and those were from everywhere.Besides, last years Santa is different from this years, so its not exactly "my" system he used last year, but i think it was inspired by me mostly matching continents in 2015 and 16 just like i did it this year. (it was necessary back then because we had not even half as many participants).
>>63398611When it comes to border security, I am all for blanket ban on seed immigration, lawful and unlawful. You never know which one will be a terro- I mean invasive species.
>>63398659If you ship cross-country (especially if its to the US) you need to state on the parcel what is inside. You can keep it generic though. For example "christmas sweets" + "plastic toys" if you send some candy and minis. The USA (and Australia too) are rather strict with the import of food and organic things.
>>63398703Yeah I know (and use)that, and we Germans have a special form even (Zollinhaltserklärung CN 22/23 for those curious), but it reads like he packed his parcel right in front of the post officer
>>63398659>>63398629i tighly sealed the 2 boxes i was going to send (to some australian SS from an instagram raffle and this tg related) lady told me to open and examined my stuff carefully, told me some stuff wasnt allowed and i took the paints, some merken and oils from it, leaving some candy and the "toys" she marked down, kinda bummer but some candy are always nice i just regret to not sending more candy or different stuff, i was worried about the arriving times because my post office takes like 20+ days to ship something (aliexpress stuff takes easiñy 3 to 4 months downhere)>>63398698heh, indeed, i was just oblivious about some local produce, i was about to send some local basing materials aswell from a company called mininature, but the seeds and wood laws are kinda strict herefun anecdote, last year i was invited to germany thanks of a great friend and back to chile, i had some dry flowers some nice lady gave me at the munich airport, when the doggos discovered, they stripped me of all my luggage and checked everything, people were complaining because i was stopping the line and the police plus the border patrol werent... the nicer guys ever
>>63398703I just say models. They aren't going to open it and it saves a lot of bullshit. >>63398773Where are you from? I've never had a package opened.
>>63398480>Switching from geographical membership to genes. >Using paladins as a comparison. We can talk when you grow up.
>>63398788santiago, chile, went to the central post office in plaza de armaseven the lady when i respectfully complained, asserted his information asking to co workers and a supervisor about the acrilic paints, but told me it was only for international parcelsi made 2 cards, the one i sent to texasanon was pretty popular for some guys on the other SS im into
>>63398838>Being too autistic to get a /tg/ joke on /tg/I don't want to talk to you. I never thought of post cards. I will have to pick some up in the coming year and include them in santa packages. Good idea man from Gears of war sidekick land.
>>63396783>>63396895Other anons have already commented about the spirit of SS and all so I'll skip that. The counterpoint is - if you're so hard up you cant afford to buy a gift, why participate? If you're worried about seeming cheap, but you also don't have any money.....why didn't you just refrain?
Iwata Eclipse Airbrush y/n?
I don't think I have been as excited about another Anon receiving my present as I have been about anything in about a year
>>63398055it just looks like undifferentiated gore, all shiny and red like that. Looks nice and eye-catching, but nothing like penises
>>63399071because the entire purpose of this whole SS thing is to send a small gift to someone you don't know. Not to send the most expensive stuff you can afford. Thats why the recommended gift value is $15. To keep things small. (also to make it hurt less if you get grinched, lets not forget where we are).
>>63397844>>63397789Nah that's BS, Citadel paints have been made by HMG Paints Ltd for years. Their original 90s range for GW is now sold by them under the Coat d' Arms name, as people have said.
>>63396895>>63396783Some of us have more stuff to give away then others, for weeks I was nervous about sending all the books and comics, and being a cheap bastard. In the end it's in the love given in the gift, and the want to give people a special chirstmas. As long as that feeling is kept, the presents big or small, don't matter.
>>63399208I may have not been clear enough - I'm not actually saying they SHOULD have refrained, just that I don't understand the anxiety and handwringing after committing to something they know they don't have a lot of money to spend on
>>63399071I did have the cash. I went over the suggested amount. The problem isn't that I couldn't do it, it's that there's some huge gifts going out which make smaller ones look bad.>>63399095Good airbrushes but not as your first. get an iwata neo to learn.
>>63399265"make them look bad", pah! Dude christmas isn't about the presents, years of movies and TV should have shown that, it's in the spirit of giving.
>>63399307You live in a fantasy world if you think the quality of gifts don't matter. If you got one reaper bones model and nothing else you wouldn't be pleased.
>>63399372i would convert the shit of that model and post it here with some weird color scheme and a meme base
>on-sprue painting is now officially endorsed by gwwhat has the world come to
Can we stop the gift value discussion ? This is really souring the mood of the entire thing. I am glad to be receiving something and i am even more excited about how happy anon will be when he receives the gift i prepared for him.And that is the end of that.
>>63399307Yeah, I agree.Any Anons worried about their presents not being enough and 'looking bad' due to larger presents, know that nobody involved expects a large present, it's just really nice accepting a gift from a stranger. If you've sent a nice present, as long as it was thoughtful, will be appreciated by most anons.>>63399372No shit fuckwad, Anon isn't talking about giving a meager gift, it's anons comparing their presents to other, larger presents. Stop trying ruin the spirit of Christmas you clown.
>>63399413honestly there are times when it's appropriate, but those are few and far between
>>63399372You are a cock.Be grateful, or don't take part.
>>63399413Painting tracks on the sprue and then finishing them off on the model was always the way to go.I miss the times when the tracks came on their own sprue and were made of black plastic though.
>>63399265>it's that there's some huge gifts going out which make smaller ones look bad.If someone thinks a smaller gift is "bad" or "not enough" in comparison with other gifts then the fault is not yours. its that guy who should think about the christmas spirit and what this is all about.
finally built my mephiston, can't wait to paint him up
>>63399372The quality does matter. But high price is not equal with high quality.
>>63399448Some scale model kits have rubber tracks and I love them, I wish GW would use them, but I don't know how common this is or how well recieved they are.
Just realized that I haven't done a thing with any of the models that I got from last year's SS, except for one, which I painted and am now sending for this year's SS.hm
>>63399481Vinyl and rubber tracks makes the model easy to assemble, but they never look natural. most serious scale model builders replace them with plastic or even metal linked tracks.
>>63399471How come every time I see a fineshit model in these threads it looks pristine but whenever I buy one it looks like it was eaten by worms
>>63399484It's cute to think how for that model would have travelled
>>63399484I would love it if it ended up back in the hands of the anon who orignally sent it last year
>>63399481Those rubber tracks are usually a huge pain in the ass. Glue and paint does not stick well to them, they can get porous over time or the paint flakes off. I built quite a number of scale model tanks and i always try to get 3rd party tracks if the kit only comes with rubber band tracks. (some companies include both, link-and-length as well as rubber band)
>>63399525epicI'm not the spoiling type, but whoever gets the single painted chaos cultist should know that it's the model in question
>>63399471I hate his design.I have an angels army, though I have a mephiston for completion sake. Every time I look at my shelf I am disgusted when I look at his model.
>>63399528hmmm, perhaps I am mistaken, are there tracks made of vinyl or another softer plastic. I recall using something squishy that worked quite well. Maybe fumes have finally driven me mad
getting paint on the big boi
>>63399629>thumbnail looks like the biggest greenstuff project ever createdLooking good anon, I hope you post lots of progress pics as I'm living my fantasies of painting big things vicariously through you
>>63399604It depends on the manufacturer (and also on the year when the kit was released).Newer kits usually have better quality rubber tracks, but most older/cheaper kits have really bad ones. The good/new ones are made from a material that does not melt when it touches plastic glue and where the paint actually sticks well. They still do not look as good as actual metal tracks though. Those are a pain in the ass to assemble but they are amazing to weather.
>>63399679I'm gonna need red gloves to paint him fast enough in time for the mega battle next weekend. I'm taking 8.6k of orks and I hope to have everything at least three colors
>>63399559>I hate his design.I've had this model for so long. I even ordered extra sword arms, which are a separate bit, back when GW did bitz sales in metal. I don't like it either.
>>63399484I got a couple Halloween models from my secret Santa last year because of old traditions of ghost stories on Christmas. I'm a pagan so it was ironic and really special, I wanted to send one but they do mean a lot to me, even If just due to the universes lovely sense of coincidence and irony(If I'm not mistaken my gift arrived the day before the solstice too so woo)
>>63399726zog me, its bootiful
>>63399785>not bluetifulYou had the opening
What's the best way to ship painted minis so they don't get ruined in the post?
>>63399831pack them so tightly they're physically incapable of moving
>>63399808>>63399726Also you've really inspired me to make three grots in a trenchcoat, with a moustache and his ork damsel in distressHis name is Orklando Bloo
>>63399725They look amazing. It's been a dream of mine for a while to design/kitbash some custom tanks to fit a ww2ish dieselpunk setting, but as ancient technology, much like a Miazaki movie, or Sora no Woto and those tracks really want me to do it. The only downside is I'm shit at being creative and can't draw plans for shitBut man those tracks make me want to get my shit together>>63399726>next weekendyou crazy bastard, you must actually be an ork. That is one gorgeous looking army, it gives me goosebumps just looking at it.
>>63399629I really want to get a Gargantuan Squiggoth, i have the opportunity to get one for $150, but I am strapped at the moment. That Supa-lobba spam man.
>>63399831I packed the single minis I send into a ball of paper of paper, put that in a small plastic bag and savely stored it all in a box padded with more paper.

French anon who lives in Plays de La Loire (Mr N.N)Your gift from Santa is on the way!HOHOHOHOHO!
CA in NC, just dropped your package off at the post office. Standby for an email from SS with your tracking number! Should be there by the 14th.

Working on some OSL tonight.
>>63400240I'll just rotate that for you fren

How do I paint flame patterns
>>63399831I put mine in one of the dice boxes I had (chessex style) leftover, stuck him to the base with blue tack! Worked great.
>>63400306>>63399726>>63399785>>63399859Been playing orks for about ten years. The older I get the less I like seeing unpainted on the table. I do enjoy my army though. Started at the beginning of 3rd with Biel-Tan and in 4th switched to Deathskulls. Never looked back
>>63400437This is what the hobby is about man, pure dedication.
>>63400380Get a fine tip paint pen, outline the pattern you're going for (I use them for checkerboards) then using the color you want to paint the pattern in fill in the space without going over the original pattern. You don't have to make it 100% perfect, but at a distance the effect looks good enough for most things. You can get the pens at Hobby Lobby and Michael's, but perhaps other places as well that sells artist supplies.
>>63400437Big collections are nice, aren't they
>>63400518Fucking rotation shit

Just wanted to share that I'm doing custom d6s for my siblings as a follow up gift after doing d&d minis set to match them last year.
>>63400569Both of those took like 9 years or something. Wolves have been in the making ever since their 5th ed dex, IG was before that (end of 4th ed)
>>63400580cute. I wish I had siblings to share my hobbies with

>>63400608Thanks, anon. Too bad they suck ass. I switched to playing SW in our club league from IG when the codex came out because I thought it will be more fun than gunlining, but they just get blown off the table most of the time. And I somehow think if GW does fix them, I'll have to make a 100+ new Primaris instead. I'm not too mad, since Primaris are cool models, but just.. disappointed
>>63400608It's the Marauder Raptor from Mantic. I got it from Nashcon from a friend a few years ago. Made that buggy from spare bitz. I want to make a few more for my Armored Battlewagon Brigade.

How does this Secret Santa bring such para noia out in me? Its only the 6th for Christsake...>haha... no mention of my package being sent... hahaAaaanyway, for an all white colour scheme on marine armour (like White scars) what colour base / scheme works best.I feel anything too dark would draw light and attention?
Do you think good mini painting skills translates to good regular painting skills? I haven't painted any pictures since I was probably 9 but if I tried to paint something now, would it look decent? Like those people who have been painting regular pictures for years having their very first minis coming out really nice
Decided to go for a dilapidated look for my retro 40k robot. Going to add some moss and greenery to him later.
>>63401743I would say painting pictures helps more with mini painting than the other way around. Mini painting gives you some understanding of how the paint handles but doesn't teach you much about composition, light, anatomy or perspective. I also think that people who paint pictures are generally more artistic than the average miniature hobbyist.
>>63401743>Do you think good mini painting skills translates to good regular painting skills? Sort of... for brush control etc... you still need to have talent Imo, problem with minis is its virtually a painting by numbers canvas, you also have no idea how perspective and light functions.I tell you what mini painting did help me with... kinda embarrassing really... make up, I'm a software engineer but I make money on the side by doing ladies make up for weddings and such.
>>63401819But not more autistic, that's for sure.
I'm relatively new at this. Can I get some tips for basecoating better and more quickly?I can't figure out what size brush to be using, I've tried a middle-of-the-road one and a large chisel-tip and it seems as though I have better results with the first one but it takes a good ten or fifteen minutes longer to get good coverage for each coat. Duncan seems to use whatever large chisel-tip GW sells to get the paint on in his videos but whenever I use it, I rip the paint more than it feels like I should or just looks shitty. Am I just doing it wrong?I have difficultly not ripping the paint regardless of what brush I use, should I focus on it or just correct it later when it happens?Do I thin the paint less on a wet palette?
>>63401887Dunk it directly in your pot.
>>63401718That's me! I found one on black Friday I think will work too. Just uses tap water
South Carolinanon, I haven't shipped your package yet. Been a crazy couple of days, but it'll be going out tomorrow.Hope you enjoy it! Will forward tracking to Santanon.Bonus WIP Dominus.Should I do a crenellated fringe on his robe?
>>63401730So I paint white scars and honestly a grey base Is the best. Makes sure you have a good base coat as white is a close color to it making it hard to see if you most a spot, grey makes it easier. Take ghost grey from Vallejo best paint for white.
Mr. W. Wiess from Toronto I would like to hand deliver your package as it is going to be easier for me to take the go train into the city and subway over to your place then deal with postal. Are you home on the weekends or have a secure spot to drop off packages?
>>63401959You're gonna clean up all that color bleed, aren't you anon..?

>>63395531What did he put on his wish list!?
Guys, I need help figuring out what to put on a d6 that's easy-ish to paint to represent 1-6. So far I've got binary, the first 6 elements in the periodic table of elements, and everyone's favorite color. What else can I do?
>>63402378Wow, how unconventional. I like the old DE usage. Is the whole army like that?
>>63402457Tally marks, Roman numerals.
>look up duncan painting nurgle skin>its literally shade paints on top of a white undercoatHuh. Most videos have a 42 paint shopping list.
>>63402378>>63402404Looks neat. The details are a bit hard to pick up, interested to see what it looks like after paint.
>>63402466Pretty muchDestroyers and heavy destroyer for reference
>>63402522Would love to see this finished. Good job
>>63400545this is what i'm working towards, great stuff anon
>>63402500>>63402547Sadly I'm not much of a painter yet, pic related is my cryptek and my third-or-so ever model painted.I appreciate the encouragement though anons!
>>63402522>I will destroy you! With my giant Cyber-Dong!
>>63402561I'm not complaining about the video, it just seemed really out of place vs most of Duncan's other painting guides.I assure you I have seen the skittlebearers
>>63402404the warrior on the front kind of kills it for me.
>>63398161>Post models you've stalled onI started this Malifaux Ten Thunders Archer a long, long time ago.I want a colour scheme reminiscent of a kingfisher. Then the fucking paint just rubbed off of the primer for some unclear reason, and just will not take.I got really frustrated adn fucked it off for a while, then picked up this adorably racist little lady from (I think) West Wind at Salute, and decided she was simple enough to smash the colour scheme on and see if I really do want a little band of kingfisher ronin. I'm going to do her hair with successive thin layers of brown and (mainly) black inks to try and give it the shine and self-highlight.I still like it, but I still can't bring myself to put more paint on this bow cunt.>>63399114i no rite?I'm second wave, still waiting for my recipient's deets so I can post it, but I'm fukken hype.Last year I was amazed at how into it I was.>>63399420>Can we stop the gift value discussion ? Greetings /wip/ anons. I want to paint some mini's over the holiday, but I only have one dude primed and ready to go. It's cold as balls so I'm a bit wary of using a spray primer; are there any secrets to making it work or am I going to have to bite the bullet andbuy brush on primer?
>>63401764Damn, that looks nice. What is the tutorial on the effect you got ? I Love it !
>>63402977Warm up the spraycan in a tub of warm water and prime super fast. Consider spraying closer than normal so the spray doesn't have the time to freeze.
>>63402977Unless you're painting a billion models for a horde army brush priming isn't that bad.
When should I start worrying about getting grinched? January?
>>63402814Jelly as fuck
>>63403279Certainly not on the fucking 6th of December
Painting the tiniest boi ever. Ral Partha Halfling from the 80s I think, he's about 10mm tall.

Finally going to get to basing this puppy and finished assembling the Blightkings I’ve had forever. Gotta finish up the Nurgling first of course.A.H. (not Hitler pls) in St Paul, your package will go to the post office Saturday! Sorry for the delay, I have work and stuff
>>63402814Hey bud, glad you got it, I envisioned the boar as a bomb squig but whatever you want it to be :). Also, in case you didn't notice yet, the Tankbusta Nobz hammer is magnetized so he can be a regular Big Choppa Nob.Have a happy holiday anon :D

>>63404065Photo's a bit blurry but they look well executed. Like the other marines you did though, I think you went a bit overboard with all the scratches.
>>63404065>>63404160I kinda dig it, it sorta gives the vibe that ceramite is some weird safety-glass-esque material that is prone to crazing but still holds together
>>63402977Liquitex black gesso is god tier for brush-on primerI can't say the same for their grey (and presumably white) however
>>63397079There are wishlists? How does that work? Are there upper limits?

>>63401730I feel the same way, anon. Oh well, the chances of getting grinched are pretty low.
>>63398161My Dominus conversion. Waited for a different jump pack bit and started painting other dudes in the meantime.
>>63404613Army painter are cheap and passable. Winsor + Newton Sceptre Golds are also not super expensive and are a sable/synthetic blend. Finally, GW brushes are overpriced but not exorbitant and honestly fairly solid
>>63404553So you just wrote what games/armies you play or specific stuff you'd like?>mfw this SS thing is well planned and organised
It's getting cold outside. How do I prime now? Can't do it indoors.
>>63402483That's a really good idea thanks.>>63402484>>63402840Was thinking about it, but I would prefer to not use actual numeral systems. Either way, thanks for the input, it's all good for brainstorming material
>>63404877I just wrote the game I play the most.
>>63404903brush on or airbrush
>>63396060Does anyone have a tau with a rail rifle and a kroot they can set next to one another? I need to get a sense of the scale of the gun.
Do the Space Marine Heroes come pre-primed? I've got the paint set for season 2 and it makes no reference to priming them.
>>63404903Shoulda stockpiled primed models during the nicer weather. You dun goofed.
>>63405076>Do the Space Marine Heroes come pre-primed?No.
>>63405076They are not primed.GW is retarded and sets up people to paint the models without a proper undercoating.
>>63405103>>63405098Holy shit. What the fuck GW. Do they do the same thing with their paint and model sets? (Nighthaunts/Sigmarines/Primaris)
>>63405113YepNote, some of the boxes DO mention that the models need an undercoat. Other boxes don't. Its erratic.
>>63405113You're expected to buy primer and a paint set with those. The space marine heroes boxes are more to get normies into the game by selling them a cool space marine sculpt.
If I primed a model black that I planned on painting black do I need to paint black over the black?
>>63405128>>63405146>>63405158That's disappointing. I honestly thought GW were on top of it with their intro to hobby stuff. Their tutorials are often great and their "Citadel Layer System™" is genuinely a really good model to teach new painters (even if it is expensive)In that case, what's the best colour to prime Blood Angels? Black, White or Grey?
>>63405076At least they are no longer including the god-emperor-awful imperial primer in those starter sets
>>63405176I'd say grey.
>>63405176If you want their armor to be darker and more muted, Black. If you want it to be lighter and more saturated, white. If you're on the fence, Grey.
>>63405176Normal BAngles? Any of the 3, red is a pretty hard color to mess up.Lamentors? White.
>>63405228I don't know.
>>63405211>>63405215>>63405228>>63405238CAN YOU REPEAT THE QUESTION?
>>63405164Really depends on the shade of black you want and how different the shade that you prime with is from the black you will use for touch ups. If they are different shades, yes. Otherwise, it's entirely dependent on the shade of black you are after and how good you want your model to look. Black is odd in that it's easy at first and then becomes way more difficult when you are going for a higher standard
>>63404903I've spray primed in winter before and didn't have any issues. Just shake it plenty and keep the can warm.
>>63405209I think I like the idea of lighter tones. Any idea where I could find a comparison of the priming colour's effects?
Do you anons base before or after painting? laying down some sand before I primecoat, and I fucked up the first couple with too much sand, and getting sand stuck to the feet of the minis. Now I'm leaving some space around their feet.
>>63405359I don't even place models on the bases until I've fully painted them.
>>63405349I don't know personally, and I don't have any to snap pics of myself. Maybe google images? Or wait a bit to see if someone else here can help.
>>63405359I base before I paint so I can paint the sand before the model so the drybrushing doesn't get all over them. Though I do use an old stiff brush to brush off the sand that gets on the feet of the mini and whatever other stuff on the base.
>>63405374So do you full paint both your models and bases, then glue them?
>>63405359After. I don't know anyone that bases before they paint. Also, depending on what surface they're on, getting stuff on their feet isn't the worst thing in the world. Mud tends to cling to feet and shoes, it can dry their, stain cloth, so on and so forth.
>>63405359Sand before priming, helps seal the sand in. I go around the feet of miniatures with an old sculpting tool whilst the PVA glue is drying and push any sand towards the base.
was wondering what I should paint the sides of my basesbut the cap on my vallejo broke so I guess we'll go with GRAY
>>63405417and the bases in questionmostly greys and browns here with some green sludge, black might actually be better but eh
>>63405417>>63405449Black or Steel Legion Drab is the fashion. I personally wouldn't go for a lot of grey, I think it makes the whole miniature look a bit mid-tone.
>>63405449>>63405417Goblin green is always the answer
>>63405449Jesus dude, the weeaborks weren't enough, you had to make a Jin-rork too?
>>63405359Depending on the layout of the mini, I do the following - I place the legs/model on the base, apply sand. Once it's dry, I put another coat of glue, watered down, over the sand. This has the dual effect of both securing the sand further, and smoothing it out every so slightly, leading to a more uniform appearance (IMO). Plus, I've found it easier to get rid of the excess sand on the model itself after the second coat. It's weird, but it's easier. After that I prime, as of late almost exclusively by brush.
>>63405359I do it all kinds of ways - make the base first and paint it up and then just pin the painted mini onto it, or glue the mini to a bare base and then add basing materials and then prime, or paint the mini and then add basing materials as a last step (if im using mud or snow paste products)
>>63405550Jin Roh ork was part of the first batch
>>63404783>Robert from Houston, your package is on the way!Huh... I used to play against a Robert from Houston back at the dawn of the Dark Age of Technology (2nd Edition era). I wonder if it's the same guy, or just a coincidence.I'm sure there are lots of Roberts down there.
>>63405176>In that case, what's the best colour to prime Blood Angels? Black, White or Grey?White's going to be the easiest way to get that bright Second Edition red that makes Blood Angels so glorious!
>>63402591Looking good anon maybe a slightly clearer picture... But from what i can tell mottled dark and necron :D
Richard from Melbourne. I want you to know your santa hasn't forgotten about you. You'll be getting your gift sometime next week.
Hey so I recently built and primed all 4 assassin types, but now I realized something.>I suck at edge highlightingDoes anyone know if I can get away with drybrushing on such thin models? Maybe some Harlequin players can give me advise. Has anyone tried to do this with assassins?

>>63407854Only if you’re buying nipponese edition. The western release is truly randomised. The SGT figure is apparently a 1/32 chance.
>>63407541Looks good anon. Would liquid greenstuff be a better fix for small modeling mistakes? small bits missing from sprue removal, poor filing, etc. I have some normal greenstuff but that seems more suited to filling large gaps/sculpting.
>>63407924Liquid greenstuff is weird. I'd suggest it only for small gaps. It might be useful to fix poor filing too.

>>63410591>black is never done with black except if it is
>>63410591That's exactly what some people do. Black, dry brush of greys, and a black wash to even it out.
>>63406417I drybrush my gaunts, you should be fine but don't expect anything amazing
Can someone post the sniper scope tutorial? The one where its the bright green night vision lens
>>63410591painting black and then edge highlighting with dark reaper or eshin grey is fine
>>63410584What kind of primer do you use ?I've never had that happen
>>63410606>Black, dry brush of greys, and a black wash to even it out.Starting with a dark color instead of black would be just as much effort and gives a much better result
>>63410729I really feel like there's something you're not getting about this one...
>>63410539has your MAGA elf's gun broke anon?
>>63411178Different anon, but mine sure did.
>>63411208Yeah, same happened here, but I don't think it's the plastic being any shittier, it's the sculpt itself, even the one used for the photos on the GW webstore is broken.
>>63411178Also different anon mine did too. I replaced the barrel with a dark lance barrel.
>>63411178No but it was very closeHowever, the pin on Taddeus' book hand got broken for me
>>63410539Are GW making it or is it cheap chink shit everyone else is using for plastic these days?
>>63400232It's kitbashed together. It's a shootah cut in half with the tubing from a Deffgun.
>>63411222Wut, where? It looks fine to me.
>>63411383take look, there's a long spindly bit snapped off just by her hand
>>63411406Not seing it, dude.
>>63410539It's exactly the same but with red "dye" pellets. In fact if I'm led to believe correctly even the grey plastic is coloured
>>63411427here it is unbroken, see it now?
>>63411427>>63411406Holy shit, you're right
Well, my fever finally dropped from 38.5 to to 37.5 and I've went to nearby post office to send SS package to Borger-anon. I've wanted to send pretty good souffle which is produced at our local confectionery factory but was feeling not that good to get to their shop. So only some plastic and a letter for you.Was going to post my maw krusha wip but for some reasons 4chan keep saying FUCK YOU and some bullshit about abuse from my IP.
>>63411514Giving someone the plague is a fine gift.
>>63411532A sign of true love I'd say
Dear upsidedown-anon DJ, your package will be on route as of tomorrow.
