Hey meds. I want to gain access to my entire health record including those kept by individual GPs. I am aware that the process likely differs dependent upon country of residence. My reasons for doing so are to make an official complaint against a surgeon who raped me on the operating table. I wish to gather evidence to ensure that other meds are not colluding with the offender in question. I'm not sure if this is common in other parts of the world, but here in Australia I want to make sure that this kind of unprofessionalism is dealt with appropriately.Any information is appreciated.

As opposed to general, broadly applicable knowledge (FM, IM), which specialties have the most highly specific and narrow focus? I’m thinking path and ophto?

Is it time to see the dogtor? My left eyelid gets droopy when I'm tired, I posted about this and somebody suggested I may have a potentially fatal but easily-treatable autoimmune disorder (myasthenia gravis).Apparently the best way to find out if you have this immune disorder is to put an ice pack on your eyelid and see if it improves, because the autoimmune disorder attacks some mechanism of chemical communication between the nerves and muscles that is improved by cold. I left the ice pack on my eyelid for maybe half a minute and it jumped right back up to where the other one is. How fucked am I? One thing to note is that I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome before I can remember and my hand-eye coordination has always been pretty garbage, but I'm not sure if this relates to weakness from myasthenia at all.I'm pretty weak physically as well, but I basically never exercise even though I know I should. I'm not muscular at all visibly, I don't know if that means the autoimmune disorder would probably be limited to my eyes or not.. Can a drooping eyelid from tiredness that's solved by application of an ice pack be caused by things that aren't a potentially fatal autoimmune disorder?

After catching measles recently because my mother fell for the retarded studies at the time 20 odd years ago and I'm an even bigger retard for not getting vaccinated as an adult/keeping tabs on current outbreaks, we've been having huge arguments about vaccines in general. While I've been trying to explain to her what exactly measles does, how our body reacts and how it directly attacks the immune system, what herd immunity is and simplistic things like how we gain immunity, nothing seems to get through, meanwhile she's gotten a book with "400 FACTS ABOUT VACCINES" and spouts off "FACTS" which after a quick google search I've been able to debunk one after the other. My little brother is a medfag. Should I let him practice laying an intravenous cannula on me?
>tfw you are getting too old for this 72h shit
I'm an OMS-1 that started off okay but doing worse recently as workload is getting heavier. I had time to go to the gym and shit while getting A's on quizzes last month, and this month I'm straight bombing quizzes (65% avg) with what feels like no time at all. Still haven't failed an exam but every time I study hard for an exam to only score ~80%, my quizzes for the week take a hit. I'm specifically struggling in visceral anatomy and embryology. I think I'm memorizing the right things thanks to Anki, but once I see the quiz it's like "wtf are these questions Gray's review didn't prepare me for this..." as it slowly chips my grade away from an 80% toward 70%. Maybe it's the time constraint that gets me? Any advice would be appreciated, I'll check this thread again tomorrow.
>About to submit my ERAS application>still to scared and want to look over it one more time. Should I do it or wait until tomorrow?

Why are med students insufferable. When I was in undergrad sure some people were annoying but mostly they were fine. Now every single student is an attention seeking leech.
>>10973729You have to be man...That's what it has become, especially if you want to get into more competitive specialties. You need to impress your attendings and brown-nose as much as possible to get letters of recommendation. It's all so tiresome really, but what can you do?

>>10975185I don't know how it is in US, but in my gypsy shithole, after taking the residency exam, you can specialize directly in IM subspecs. For example you're a good student and you get a 936/999 (highest score I've ever seen here) and pick cards. You do 4 years of IM and 2 of cards afterwards and after you finish residency you become a cardiologist, not an internist. I think our residency program is a combination between your residency and the thing you call "fellowship". You don't really have to impress someone to get the spec you want here, if you're a decent human being and your brain works well enough to memorize medicine does trick. Brown nosing here is kept for the docs that want to get into those comfy admin positions (and also very rare but paid extremely well)
>>10975852That* does the trick. FML, gypsy tier at english.
Hello. Is there any statistical significance between child cancer rates and the age of the parent? I can't seem to find this type of stats. Meaning, does the chamce of a child developing cancer correlate positively with the average age of the parents, or the age of the father. I have a suspicion that older parents having a child drastically increases cancer risk, and that (((doctors))) are keeping it hush hush to get a steady stream of funds for research.
>>10976125Yes the older parent is the less life vitae is transferred through the ethernetic orgone to their plabencentar in the uterine valves. The only way to prevent this is to install anal anal rape implants in the father to increase his force life and etherically charge his memetic potentioalis.
>>10975852Man the joys of living in a place where programs aren't that competitive. We have to apply for both residency and fellowship here in the U.S. both requiring letters of recommendation from attending physicians you work with. I'm not even getting into how much money you spend.
>>10976125How hard is it to Google "parental age" "cancer rate"
>>10976128It's a serious question. I want to know if there's statistical significance so that I can scold boomers for giving their child terminal cancer.
>>10976125No, that's not how cancer works. Advanced age of parent(esp mom) only puts children at risk for Down's syndrome.
>>10976164>>10976164I had a feeling you were just a shitposter. 5/10 for making me reply
>>10976165So then what are the links in child cancer?
>>10976160>how much money you spendkek, here residency is free. Only if you want to swap residencies you have to pay for it. It kind of got competitive in the past few years, top students usually pick cards or some clinical shit. The surgical specs are the last ones that get picked with FM, IM and Occupational Med. (And in surgical, I mean there's ortho positions free in the low 700 scores). Most people don't give that much shit about residency because there are only a handful that want to pick something "cool". (Cards, GI, Ophto, derm, OB/GYN, endocrinology - the rest, not so much)
Can you guys recommend me some books on prosthetic lower limbs? (Knee and /or ankle)
>>10976183Pretty similar here. The benefits of 60-70% of med students being female is that anything with shitty hours or no prestige(this doesn't have anything to do with compensation mind you) is fairly easy to get in. Cards and the non-surgical operative specs usually are the hardest to get into.
>>10976295Exactly. Most of the students are female (I'm the only guy in a group of 8 students for example), I don't know how but they usually score higher than males from what I've seen. No.1 in uni in our year is indeed a male but after him in top 50, 90% are female. Besides the "smart" crowd, the rest end up picking either a surgical spec with inhuman hours or go for nephro (Romanians hate nephro, idk why, there are always places left for it at the end of the resident distribution, no one seems to want them), FM or IM. We have a shit ton of places for FM and no one picks them either and IM is picked by females usually that failed to get into a better spec. (Not that IM sucks, I actually like it)
>>10976160BTW, are fellowships actually useful in the U.S., as in do they give you priviledges you wouldn't be able to get otherwise or some shit? Here they are a complete joke, signals of "competency". You can just do the same shit that the guys in fellowships do and get equally competent at it while making bank, and the patient doesn't understand jack shit about your fellowships so there is no signal value.
>>10976304Here the one no one wants is PM&R.
Will exercise relieve chronic back pain that came about due to a fractured T12? Injury happened due to taking a really hard fall at a bar early this year, the pain is mostly from shoulderblades down to the injury site itself and gets worse during the day to the point that I'm always going to bed before 8pm
>>10957754This, I remember being a student and having some great nurses give me a lot of opportunities to build my confidence. I always want to do the same for any med student too I just have no clue what the fuck y'all want from me other than information.

Had peds today. It's actually pretty cool. Our Prof is amazing, she already gave us the titles of the books we will need and told us to focus a lot on differential diagnosis. I just placed an order for the books and can't wait to get into them. Peds already makes me happy.
Freshly graduated anon reporting in. Volunteering in anesthesia today. Sedated a patient without his history and everyone yelled at me, a nurse said they'll never take me as a resident and fucked up a canula. Overall not bad, but I feel like a retard. Also I'm scared to admit how many drug dosages (non anesthesia) I don't remember. >>10980307You're fine senpai. Many fresh graduates have the imposter syndrome and it will eventually go away. And regarding peds, I think that diff diagnosis will help me narrow down the possibilities, considering that children have a varied spectrum of pathologies most of the times. We had this little 5 year old lady that was admitted with wet rhales and convulsions, no fever. Was funny to talk to her, I found out she likes princesses and the color blue but for fucks sake, her mother had probably an IQ below 50. Zero fucking explanations, "It just happened, she felt ill." If the Prof didn't tell me she had convulsions I'd never knew.
