Why did interest in Space die out?
>>10794348Space isn’t as new and mysterious as it was. The only thing that people care about now is life on other planets, but we don’t have the tools to go on a galactic space exploration just looking for aliens.
>>10794348JFK died out. Then USSR died out.
>>10794403We only reached the moon in 69 because he died. Had he not died, the pressure wouldn’t have been there. With his death, JFK turn his political promises into moral problems. If JFK had survived Dallas, no one in NASA would have worked as hard as they did to get men on the moon before the decade was out.
>>10794403>>10794414The promise was much more LBJ than JFK, as much as I hate the guy.
I feel like the 1969 moon landings were the peak of America. Everything since then has basically been a letdown.
>>10794348It didn't. Since the mid sixties government-led projects have been getting more and more bloated and inefficient to the point where Cali's high speed rail has been getting funding for a decade and work hasn't started
>>10794437What do trains have to do with Space?
>>10794348It hasn’t. We are going into the great beyond.
>>10794348Because it's not real.
>>10794428Apollo 17 in 1972 was the peak, actually
>>10794348space travel was a memethere is no economic reason to send people into space, so we don't do it
>>10794348To be honest, I don't think it was ever "alive". Before the space race, space travel was seen as a niche endeavor that only a subset of scientists and engineers (along with a small scifi fanbase) were interested in. Post-sputnik, American interest in space was only into "beating" the Soviets, not about what space travel actually was. The American public were only concerned over American spaceflight because it seemed pathetic compared to the Soviets, not because of what American spaceflight could do at the time. Once the Soviets were "beaten", everyone (apart from the niche crowd) went back to not caring about spaceflight. To me, Apollo was a freak event in the history of spaceflight, the capabilities and rate-of-development of spaceflight before and after Apollo make much more sense if Apollo was "cut out"
>>10794439Same exact thing. All of NASAs projects such as the Space Launch System are riddled with cost overruns and project delays.Maybe it's greedy corporations who get free money from the government like the leftists say, or over-regulation like the right says, but just about everything this government does these days gets stuck in the mud.
>>10794459As if spending billions on surplus military equipment is a better waste of money

>>10794600Some of those “boring rocks” contain unimaginable wealth
>>10794638if GOD wanted us to go to space it would of been on the bible.
>>10794348Money and competition.
>>10794678Bible's pretty clear:>space elevators NO>generation ships to avoid natural disasters/extinction YES
>2019>still believe in moon landings
>>10794467It's both, excessive red tape and initial entry costs make a monumental effort for a space startup to break into the market and their already established competitors get enormous preferential treatment when it comes to valuable government contracts, and on top of that the already established space companies are allowed huge cost overruns, delays, and deadline failures for the sake of keeping them in good graces and preserving the jobs of individuals who deserve to be fired.
Interest in science died out when the 'needy' decided they weren't getting the attention they deserved. The space program cost astonishingly little relative to the gains in human achievement, political world street cred, advancement in interest in science and education. That was too much for the underachievers who, despite ungodly sums thrown at them, couldn't manage to live in housing projects without destroying them (hm.... flash of global warming just went by). Anyway, social pressure pretty much killed the Apollo program, and the STS was supposed to be the revival. Meh. Spacetruck wasn't as exciting.
>>10794750While I disagree with your point that the 'needy' killed the American space program, I really dislike the kind of people who believe that NASA should have it's budget redirected to "feed the poor". As if $21B from NASA will make a difference to the $851B that social programs are already getting.
>>10794348I think interest died when the population came to full realize just how expensive, slow and primitive space travel is for us.
>>10794750this is exactly what I was goin to say.at least the private sector is doing big steps for space development.

>>10794698Would you please elaborate on what part of the bible says "no" to space elevators? I get that generational shops to avoid natural disasters and extinction is a reference to Noah's Ark, but I don't know what the bible has to do with space elevators.
>>10794401and why not?
>>10795792>>10795672Nope. Hate /pol/, hate Trump, not fond of politics in general. But I was a teenager at the time, and heard and watched the news, talked with folks, saw the events. It was literally the cry for welfare and a "ho-um, we've done it" attitude that killed the program. Viet Nam didn't help.
>>10797333Apollo died a decade before the SU.
>>10796885Thing is, you're talking through your tainted mind. You assumed I'm some poltard because I called it like I saw it. >>10794348that isn't spaceit's government propagandafunded at taxpayer expense
>>10794348why were the moon missions propaganda-oriented instead of science-oriented
The program was unpopular at the time. Try using google to search articles if you're really interested.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goh2x_G0ct4
>>10797420>there were no votes at all in science back>if a crew died on the moon trying to do too much sciency shit, it would have been the geologists' asses who lobbied for it>they thought they had 10 moon landing missions and thought "we'll get around to it someday"and lastly>the scientific world was actually against manned spaceflight
>>10797420Because they were really about "we can totes hit you with our ICBMs any time".
>>10797435>the scientific world was actually against manned spaceflightLame. I'm pretty sure they would change their minds once large amounts of scientific data come back from consistent manned missions. Robotic missions are only preferred because it's seen as the most "practical" way of doing science in space and the long development times for a small vehicle meant that the developers of such robots could take their time making the thing while soaking up as much of the budget for themselves. Being satisfied with a dinky little probe to scan some rocks every 5 or so years is one of the reasons why spaceflight has been held back.
>>10797413>How do you prove your theory?no, the burden of proof is on you. the general consensus is and has been that the interest in space died out due to the USSR fizzling out and there being no real economic benefits to continuing space exploration.
>>10797530The USSR was going plenty strong for over ten year after Apollo. Burden of proof indeed. You've been reading too many flat Earth threads. Do your homework before you spout your opinions and think of them as fats.Kids these days. Sheesh.

>>10794414>If JFK had survived Dallas, no one in NASA would have worked as hard as they did to get men on the moon before the decade was out. That's not the issue -- if LBJ did not inherit a need to make everything JFK into a moral crusade (while conveniently keeping the money flowing into Texas) then how hard NASA folks wanted to work would not have mattered -- the money taps would not have remained open.
>>10795669Please cite data.
>>10795792>>10795672But he's right./pol/ is cancer. But nonetheless, after the "moon race" was won, the pressure to fund NASA at relatively high levels evaporated, while the social revolutuon of the 60s increased pressure for spending on "anti-poverty" and social programs. Google "Whitey's On The Moon," that was a real thing. All this is compounded by the public having a HUGE misunderstanding of how much of the budget NASA consumes. It peaked at just under 4.5% in 1965, and above 1% for the last time in 1993. Currently NASA spends about one half of one percent of the Federal Budget, not all of which is spent on space exploration (about 46% goes into manned space operations, for example.)
>>10794348It was no longer important for american imperialist goals so they changed world views on it via their media control
>>10797435>>the scientific world was actually against manned spaceflightSome were, some weren't. Just like now.Surprisingly, the breakdown largely followed the lines of those who were paid to work on non-manned space projects, and those who were paid to work on manned space projects.
>>10797436It started that way, as the USSR demonstrated as early as Vostok 1 that they could heft a pretty sizable object to any point on the globe. It quickly move beyond that, though. For example, the Saturn v was a remarkably useless vehicle for carrying a military warhead, since it cannot "dwell" in a fueled state, and takes several days, at best, of very noticeable activity to prepare it for a launch -- during that time, it would be a sitting duck in a military situation.

Arguably interest in Space is coming back in a huge way right now.Between companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin, the Mars probes and rovers, and the popularity of space based video games and movies, I would argue that the general populace is still very interested in Space comparatively. It's the Government that doesn't care. Space exploration doesn't win votes. I guess aerospace manufacturing does, but not enough for the Government to provide real funding.

This system has now taken over, possibly has access to the bombs, and is using us to systematically purge all life on this planet. That's the great filter in our case, apparently. A prior inhabitant of this planet, or another species, has left something behind. If we survive the trials they're putting us through, we may ultimately have to find and destroy them. 5G is the endgame. It establishes a control grid, will rapidly purge its implementer (us), once it's no longer needed, then, using the sum of our digitized knowledge it will recursively drag out and exterminate any form of biological life. The nukes aren't good enough because they leave sea life and the deep sea vents. The space race was probably theater to stimulate R&D. There's some indication we essentially gave the Soviets the tech, starting materials, and know-how to make the bombs, and it still took them over 6 years to do so. Now they didn't have the central bankers quite as strongly behind them economically, but they were helped. Can you imagine a better means of controlling populations?
