Why did people make up a drug for a made up disease?

“You don't get rich making a drug. If you want to get rich, you make a disease.” ~ L. Ron Hubbard

I think inhabiting the same Earth as people like OP is reason enough for these drugs

prozac straightened me out almost immediately
>>
I was against them for a decade. Now on them. Saved my life
>>
>>10289175
What do you consider a disease?
>>
for dumb people talk shit about it bc if they don't see, it possibly doesn't exist nah?
>>
>>10289175
I'm gonna give you a serious answer.
The placebo effect is real.
>>
>>10289423
It's all placebo, it's impossible that some subpopulation with certain genetics might actually benefit?

Depression isnt made up it is a side effect to modern society and shit diet, not struggling to find resources to survive 12 hours a day along with breaking up our social pack system has thrown people's minds out of correct function

Brain visibly changes structure 3h after taking lexapro. Does not on any of the placebo groups.

I hate the fact that there are subjects in which /sci/ is literally /x/-tier.
Depression isn't a made-up disease and antidepressants actually work.
The problem you have about the principle of 'arbitrarily' giving a name to a group of symptoms doesn't invalidate the whole thing.

That guy suffering from melancholic depression who finally went up from its chair to go kill himself because the drug gave him enough of a boost to do it didn't have a "made-up disease" and didn't do that because of the placebo effect.

This, and the brain also visibly change with psychotherapy but talking about psychiatry and psychology here is like talking about Evolution on /pol/ it seems.

this
>what is John Calhoun's mouse utopia experiment

with no struggle for food, sex or survival, mice began to attack each other, stopped having sex, the few pregnant mice seemed to forget about their babies and/or abandon them and homosexual tendencies grew prominent

mice =/= humans, but an interesting study nonetheless
