What is your personality /sci/?
https://www.personal.psu.edu/~j5j/IPIP/ipipneo120.htm

Most people here have asked about your MBTI personality
But this time the post won't be unscientific.
We'll be using the Big Five Model of Personality which depends on the lexical hypothesis which has the following two postulates:
> Those personality characteristics that are important to a group of people will eventually become a part of that group's language.
> Collorary: More important personality characteristics are more likely to be encoded into language as a single word
https://projects.ori.org/lrg/PDFs_papers/Big.Five.Wiggins.Chapter.pdf

For support look here:
https://webs.wofford.edu/steinmetzkr/teaching/Psy150/Lecture%20PDFs/FiveFactorModel.pdf

For other ways to support the big five look up:
Costa Jr, P. T., & McCrae, R. R. (1992). Four ways five factors are basic. Personality and individual differences, 13(6), 653-665.

For an integrated model of the big five look here: https://scottbarrykaufman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/DeYoung-2014-CB5T-JRP.pdf

For some criticisms look here: https://web.archive.org/web/20121107113908/http://web.sls.hw.ac.uk/teaching/level2/A42SO2/reading/Eysenck%20Four%20ways%20five%20factors%20are%20not%20basic.pdf

The Big Five only cover the dispositional traits of what a person is, if you want a model that encompasses the whole human look here:

OP you are pretty based. Stimulated my interest with these articles.
>>
High extraversion - except for low excitement seeking
Very low agreeableness - except for high cooperation
Very high conscientiousness - except for low dutifulness
Very low neuroticism
High openness - except for low emotionality

Very good test. I like how the big 5 are broken down further. For every metric except neuroticism, I had an outlier

it means you would be terrible at jobs dealing with the public like sales aswell as jobs with high stress. combined with your high openness and agreeableness this means that your ideal career would be teaching art classes to the babies and infants of rich people from san francisco. if youre not a woman thn youre probably fucked.

it suggests you would find jobs with lots of responsibility and pressure very very difficult and you are more at risk of anxiety or depression. you would thrive in creative jobs about ideas. with your mid-above average agreeableness you would probably be a good part time art teacher for primary/elementary school children which funds your art work on the side.

I have severe depression, ADHD, and pain, so most results I can agree with. I don't think the Openness to Experience category is entirely accurate. Agreeableness - Cooperation is definitely wrong because I am highly cooperative when people aren't dumber than shit. I'm usually the one being inclusive and promoting proactive activity.

>>
>>10189323
You kinda look like a psychopath desu.
>poor internal representations
>wants to work with others only for their own goals
>seeks novelty and excitement
I mean obviously your score is highly inaccurate, but that can easily be explained by your inaccurate depiction of yourself.
>>
>>10192747
lool its wrong because either youre wrong about yourself or you answered wrong. it literally just asks you questions about how cooperative you are.
>>
>>10192798
It asks bad questions. If it asks how much I like people and I say "I definitely don't", that's not a statement on my cooperativeness. Obviously there's going to be a lot of normie bias in the questions.
>>
>>10192805
but thats not the only question is it? and if you say definitely not ... lol i would bet you arent.

>Obviously there's going to be a lot of normie bias in the questions
?

desu what they do is they derive the factors statistically first then what theyve gone and done is given each factor a name afterwards. so in all likelihood it isnt going to agree with everyones idea of cooperativeness but thats what researchers think is the most accurate name for the factor.

I searched the cybernetic article OP mentioned, and apparently the most based combo is the mindful personality that consists of:
observing, describing, acting aware, non-judging, and non-reacting which is related to the big five. Just google "mindful personality"..

Who of these posters is the zen master?

I wouldn't say my score is highly inaccurate. Some of the values are high but I'd say they're in the right ballpark. But your judgment is somewhat correct. I try to hide it around people I'm not very close with but I'm very callous at heart. I know recklessness is a trait of psycopathy, and I used to be extremely reckless until I learned to keep it under control because it was fucking up my life.

Video related. There are people who generally like people, and get "along" with them well, but have physical signs of psychopathy and nobody really thinks they're nice to be around. It's not hard to think there are some people who hate and distrust people, but when they're with people they like, are highly cooperative. If you're a normie, liking people and being cooperative are the same thing. Almost by definition to normalfags, you are uncooperative if you're not agreeing with everyone or bending to whatever the meme social structure is. If they used the term "obedient" or something I could agree, because I don't go along with people without considering my own values.
>>
>>10193833
What an interesting video!
Indeed one can be cold to those around one but still care about the general things and about strangers to such extent that maybe the best person in the world is actually a sociopath who's engaged in effective altruism or something like that and making far many more people happy than anyone here could ever dream of...
>>
>>10193833
dude ofcourse people will act differently to people they like or know more. but i dont see how you can deny that someone who is more cooperative and friendlier with strangers has more of that trait than people who arent and have a greater tendency to dislike people.

the normie thing isnt an argument because this is exactly what individual differences studies are trying to look at; how people differ or are similar; hiw behaviour varies at the extremes and around the mean.

I think I'm pretty mentally healthy but I have social anxiety that makes it hard to engage with strangers even though I know I'm a decent conversationalist and don't act weird or autistic. While I tend to be organized and methodical I have trouble starting any serious work which leads to me procrastinating.

It looks like lots of people ITT have low agreeableness/high neuroticism scores which doesn't surprise me considering we're on 4chan.

There is indeed some truth to what you're saying. The overall picture of the big five is mostly quite stable and acceptable across cultures, the biggest problem with various questionnaires that try to capture the Five Factor Model of personality has been the fifth factor: Openness/Intellect, and there have been some problems between the facets of extroversion and agreeableness.

De Raad, B. (1998). Five big, big five issues: Rationale, content, structure, status, and crosscultural assessment. European Psychologist, 3(2), 113-124.

However, this is not the case for the NEO-PI-R (The Revised NEO Personality Inventory), its universality has been validated across cultures.
McCrae et al. concluded that "personality, as measured by the NEO-PI-R, can be characterized in every culture so far examined in terms of N, O and C factors plus the interpersonal circumplex ([communion, warmth, or love] and [dominance, assertiveness, or agency]); And Procruestes rotation shows that the circumplex can be interpreted in terms of E and A factors (as you can see in the included image) [...] Although the universality of the FFM does not preclude some cultural diversity (indigenous personality factors) in personality, it does show that many aspects of personality are transcultural"

McCrae, R. R., Costa Jr, P. T., Del Pilar, G. H., Rolland, J. P., & Parker, W. D. (1998). Cross-cultural assessment of the five-factor model: The Revised NEO Personality Inventory. Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, 29(1), 171-188.
(the important article ^)

Yang, J., McCrae, R. R., Costa Jr, P. T., Dai, X., Yao, S., Cai, T., & Gao, B. (1999). Cross-cultural personality assessment in psychiatric populations: The NEO-PI—R in the People's Republic of China. Psychological Assessment, 11(3), 359.

apparently big five is largely replicable cross culturally though. if there is a biological underpinning to personality applying to humans in general then you should still get roughly the same patterns across culture.

I'm not convinced. The Filipino and French are poor candidates for examining the cross-cultural validity of such measures with regard to the WEIRD sample (Henrich 2010); the latter for obvious reasons, and the former due to the overwhelming Spanish cultural influence from its colonial history. Bahta et. al found in 2013 that even the NEO-PI-R fails to replicate both extraversion and agreeableness in an East African sample. Even in a relatively WEIRD sample, Caprara et. al (2001), in their study of NEO-PI-R factor structure in Italian subjects, argued against the orthogonal Procrustes rotation as a means of settling cross-cultural issues with replicating extraversion and agreeableness factors (which they found) despite their admission of that it worked extremely well to resolve such difficulties. They worry that, generally, translations of the NEO-PI-R might not be measuring the same thing as the American version, and that finding some optimal varimax rotation is not an honest solution to what may be a deeper problem with the measure. The fact that factor replicability in African (Savla 2007) and East Asian (Wu 2008) cultures also relies on component rotations at least indicates that, undoctored, the NEO-PI-R translations are not perfectly representative. I found a paper (Terracciano 2003) that directly objects to Caprara, but neither of them really offer "without a doubt" tier conclusions, in part due to excruciatingly small ns, and a brief Google search reveals Terracciano as one of McCrae's cronies, which brings me to my central point - McCrae fucking co-authored the NEO-PI-R dude. Of course he's going to fight tooth and nail, deploying all manner of analytic hijinks, to save it in the face of potentially valid criticism. The NEO-PI-R is probably still useful in some contexts, but it's also probably not as useful as it's creators would have us believe.
Like I said, I'm not convinced.

What might be getting you is that these arent ratings of your traits. these are percentiles. All it tells you is what percentage of people have a score lower than you, not your actual score/rating for a given trait.

These percentiles are almost certainly not proportional to the score based on all the agree/disagree options people select. Instead they will be anchored to the mean and variance of the overall sample of people that have done this test.

To evaluate these percentiles in relation to your own subjective rating of a given trait, you will atleast need to know those statistics.

At various times in my life, and by various practitioners (some with knowledge of the diagnoses of others, some without), I have been diagnosed with:

If you're too dumb to realize that not being able to set goals and work hard at something is important, you won't get anywhere, no matter your IQ.
If you're too dumb to realize being a neurotic wreck makes your life worse, you're not very intelligent. Neurotic people aren't in control of themselves, instead they are slaves to emotion.

>The Filipino and French are poor candidates for examining the cross-cultural validity of such measures with regard to the WEIRD sample (Henrich 2010);
I understand and I agree with you; however, McCrae analysed fifty cultures and the findings replicate the normative American self-report structure with openness having the lowest congruence coefficient (some African and Asian countries have congruent coefficients lower than 0.90 for openness)
McCrae, R. R., & Terracciano, A. (2005). Universal features of personality traits from the observer's perspective: data from 50 cultures. Journal of personality and social psychology, 88(3), 547.

>Bahta et. al found in 2013 that even the NEO-PI-R fails to replicate both extraversion and agreeableness in an East African sample.
That is indeed interesting, and McCrae does agree that the replications of the american normative structure are "far from perfect" in the African cultures and he suggests that there could be a "distinctive African personality structure".

For the African studies, Laher (2015) mentions that the reliability coefficients have been better in the untranslated versions of the NEO-PI-R, cited sources that pointed to the possibility of response biases in the African sample (biases that more notable in collectivist cultures), and suggested that the five factor model is lacking a social-relational component that could be incorporated without necessarily having to include it as a separate factor.
Laher, Sumaya. "Personality Assessment: An African Perspective." The Wiley Handbook of Personality Assessment (2015): 146.
(short note: Use Teferi and Laher (2013) instead of Bahta et al.) (I had trouble finding it the other way)

I don't think it makes sense to call the Procrustes rotation an analytical hijink, as Terracciano (2003) mentions, the Procrustes rotation does not distort the data and failed attempts have been reported, including the example demonstrated in the article of the O/C "non-circumplex"

low agreeableness and neuroticism combined with high extraversion and openness is a sociopath that gets in ur face and then starts talking about art. super annoying. plus with the low conscientiousness thats the perfect combination for a bohemian drug addict who serially loves to bang dumb trust fund bitches bare back. add in high iq and you probably got a charles manson type cult leader.

they are generalized descriptions of what you might expect and likely just generic for high and low of each factor; not fortune telling.
>>
>>10206225
Maybe a better description that is not as low-level as facets nor as high-level as traits (the domains) that perhaps isn't all over the fucking place might be the aspects that are just one level above the facets. Things like withdrawal (or anxiety/depression) and volatility for neuroticism, compassion and politeness for agreeableness, industriousness (or productivity) and orderliness for conscientiousenss, enthusiasm and assertiveness for extroversion, and intellect and imagination (or openness) for openness/intellect (or you could also call it cognitive exploration)
>>
>>10207422
i think too many people have unrealistic impressions of what this test does. YOU answer the questions. the test wont tell you anything ypu dont know. And again its percentile so its not your rating just how many peopmr are below you.

THIS TEST TELLS YOU NOTHING YOU DONT ALREADY KNOW AND THE RESULTS ARENT RATINGS OF YOUR PERSONALITY. READ THE FUCKING DISCLAIMER BEFORE YOU TAKE IT.
>>
>>10183692
>> Those personality characteristics that are important to a group of people will eventually become a part of that group's language.
That's a really dumb hypothesis.
There's all kinds of game-theoretic / behavioral reason why this wouldn't be true. All groups have intragroup competition balanced by intergroup competition, therefore we can't assume optimality in language, as its only one of the many games that a group plays.
>>
>>10208274
its true language is flawed and for me this test is hard because sometimes the questions are simpler than my answers but tbf this is life. there are no objective categories. tbf i think this is the best test we know and language is efficient. the fact that the big five is replicable also shows something. despite flaws we are still tapping into something i think.
