i love this lens. it makes everything glow in all the wrong ways. it takes great pics of my extremely hot girlfriend who doesn't judge me because im totally ripped. im seeing an uptick in likes from my 6,374,981,76 instagram followers since buying this. my girlfriend sucks my dick more. a seriously amazing piece of gear.

my question is how to get it to infinity focus on my 6D? i can only focus to about 3 meters before the mirror hits it.

Soviet trash. Only useful if you shoot your subjects dead center and want that swirly bokeh. Beats me why'd you want to focus this thing to infinity.
>>
The swirly bokeh gets annoying after a while.
>>
>>3520774
annoying like deepthroat blowjobs from 3 russian slevna's at the same time
>>
You’d better bought one that was already adapred for infinity focussing. Also you can google the problem and will get the solution
>>
>>3520826
i didn't realize they could be adapred. perhaps this is the solution i am looking for
>>

I JUST GOOGLED IT AND CAN'T SEE HOW IT CAN BE ADAPRED THE PROBLEM ISN'T THAT THE REAR ELEMENT NEEDS TO MOVE BACK BUT THAT IT NEEDS TO NOT BE IN THE WAY OF THE MIRROR GOD DAMN YOU SMARTASS

Bin that shit and use the 44-4.
>>
>>3520849
Nothing particularly wrong with it, it's just babby's first vintage lens. It's not particularly sharp in the corners and relies heavily on the swirly bokeh meme. Also that it's memed by every redditor around it stays relevant. I'd rather use my Olympus Zuiko fleet of lenses, they're sharper across the frame and my 50mm f1.4 and 24mm f2.8 is pretty much perfection.

You learn what makes truly great optics when you pass one year of experience in photography, you'll get there one day noob anon.
>>
>>3520849
Poor coatings, flat ass contrast and bland colors. Sharpness isn't too bad (unless you got one of the billion of defected ones due to garbage Soviet manufacturing) but it's not a landscape lens for sure. Alright for portraits until you get bored of the gimmick bokeh.
>>
>>3520774
Which backgrounds besides trees in a forest work for the best swirly bokeh? To me the other backgrounds look too busy with swirl

I have this exact lens mounted on a zenit. However somethings fucked. When looking through the finder absolutely nothing is in focus. it's just a blurry wall. Now the camera is find because i've put other lenses on it and I can see perfectly. The lens looks and feels ok, i've tried unscrewing and rescrewing some of the elements and that did nothing. While holding up the lens itself I can look through it and see things so there's nothing blocking light in the middle.

What's up?
>>
>>3521426
Could be misaligned lens elements which is a typical issue with Soviet optics, or alternatively the entire optical assembly is positioned wrong so that it cannot achieve focus on your camera.
>>
>>3521426
can you focus on an object of any distance at all?
>>
when we're already talking about vintage shit, what are some good vintage 200-300mm primes?
2.8-f4
i found a soligor 200mm 2.8 and a pentacon 300mm f4 but cant find much about them online

Petzval 85 is great, but it's not of the focal length you're looking for.

>screw optical element back into mechanical element
You should now be able to focus further away, not sure how long your interflange distance is so no idea if that is actualy Infinity focus.
Should be much better than before though...

blowing my mind rn that's cool

the problem isn't this though. its that the rear element physically moves too far back into the camera body, hitting the mirror that retracts when a picture is taken
>>
>>3524110
Does your camera have a mirror-lock feature?
If yes, use it to lock the mirror in the "up" position to take pictures like a mirrorless.

Depth of field preview-thing on a lens. On have it and other doesn't. But you don't even realize, how deep your question are.
http://radojuva.com/2015/04/gelios-44-helios/ use your favorite online translator.
But long story short - Helios's differs not only by model numbers, but also by factory that produced them.

Another nice trick I use:
>holding the lens the wrong way around agains my camera
>take picture
You can't realy focus that way as the optical element can't move, but it gives it some macro capabilities.

There's no point using 200-300mm primes. The further the focal distance, the more hand shake becomes a problem and you'll need to use a strong tripod which most people won't do. This is especially worse if you're adapting to mirrorless because there'll be a crop factor making the shake much worse as it'll turn a 200mm lens to 300mm or more. Anything beyond 135mm is worthless and is usually bottom of the price list on ebay for a reason.

Stick to an 85mm to 135mm lens and you won't be crying over your blurry images in here asking why your lens is broken. If you want a good 200-400 lens get a modern one with image stabilisation or a body with IBIS.
>>
>>3524115
im not sure that's what this feature does but i like where this is going. i think i can take the pics in live view mode because the mirror stays up
>>
>>3524158
i do that with my 50mm f/1.4 and its boss but that's not why i bought the helios
>>
>>3520851
>You learn what makes truly great optics when you pass one year of experience in photography

Oh goodness, this ought to be good... not saying you're on the wrong side here, anon, but what exactly makes good optics?
>>
>>3524365
it took him an entire year to learn not to shoot at iso 6400
>>
>>3524447
I use the lenses on my Om-1n so no ISO 6400 for me.

>>3524365
Russian lenses tend to be extremely soft and low contrast in exchange for a meme like swirly bokeh. The build quality is also variable due to so many thousands of variants across multiple factories. I guess some people like that because no two lens is the same. I find OM lenses have the best vintage optics I've found, they're sharp across the frame, focus is smooth, microcontrast is insane. My Helios photos tended to look really flat and lifeless. I've not tried Nikon lenses yet. I hear they are even better.

I personally think the OM Zuiko 50mm f1.4 is the best vintage lens from the few I've tried. The only other one that impressed me was the Canon FD 35-105 f3.5. I went through so many junk vintage zooms when I didn't know better until that one slapped me down on my ass with its sharpness and bokeh. And the constant aperture/macro modes work well even on mirrorless.
>>
>>3524309
The first two digits of the serial number = year of manufacture.

>>3524458
>Russian lenses tend to be extremely soft
Zenitar 50mm F2 is very sharp lens.
