Who's your lensfu, /p/?

For me it's my SMC Takumar 135 f2.5, I've never enjoyed a lens more. Absolutely gorgeous in every way.

I have loved many a lens, but my one true lensfu was still the Voigtlander 40mm 1.4 MC. She was the one that got away.

Sony 55mm f1.8,
Sony 90mm f2.8,
Leica 50mm f3.5,
and Nikkor Ai-S 50mm f1.4 have all been some pretty nice pieces of ass too though.

This might sound dumb to a lot of folks, bit I’m gonna go with my EF-S 24mm pancake. Inexpensive, small, sharp, and not too slow (although not fast either, to be realistic).

Second choice for me is probably my 50mm f1.4 MD. Nice, fast piece of glass.

As shit as it is, it's the lens I've used by far the most, since it's compact. It's not my favorite and I'm going to ditch her, but I guess that's pretty much my wife until the divorce is settled.

That said, I took pictures I like better with it than with my Sony full frame equivalent 28-70mm kit lens, so I guess it's alright as far as kit lenses go.

This lens is pretty overrated. The 50 Lux is much better in all regards, except for speed. When was the last you thought you had to shoot at such low light that you couldn't pump the iso one stop?
Also, it weights around 700g. Have fun dragging this thing around a whole day. The whole point of shooting M is its size/weight and portability.

It's an interesting lens just to know exists but not really good for shooting.
weight isn't much of an issue as >>3466653 but he is pretty much right about the rest. The lens does impede into the finder which is really annoying.

If it's a shelf piece, great! It gives you a lot of bragging rights.
If you look around to see what shooters actually use, few people shoot the Noct or the Lux.
I think you'll find the Cron is the lens of choice among people who use their Leicas and don't just talk about them.
>>
>>3466698
The Cron is just an amazing lens. Small and light compared to Noctilux and Summilux. Best thing about the Cron is that it's sharp wide open and renders beautifully. Of course you can stop down the Lux, but that defeats its point.
>>
>>3466663
I haven't use the 23mm f/2, but i did own the 35mm f/2 and didn't like it.
>>
>>3466698
There's two problems with the Leitz f/0.95, besides its blistering price. The first is that even f/1.4 is bloody near impossible to focus closer than 1.5m with a rangefinder. The second is that at and after f/1.4, oriental substitutes for the Noctilux are like 85-95% as good at 10% the price; so why would one own a Noctilux, let alone use one outside of a studio or otherwise controlled environment?

Also, lulzy viewfinder blockage. My Nokton 50mm f/1.1 gets so very very close to the RF spot as well. But dem borks, and the f/1.5 is actually more expensive...

>are you saying that 35mm is bad?
Not at all. Just pointing out that the 28mm on a DSLR is the same as 35mm on a full-sized sensor or SLR. I actually use a 35mm on my DSLR as a prime as this is the equivalent of the old "natural" 50mm most film SLRs came with. I don't use a phone camera and my phone doesn't have one, for reasons.
>>
>>3467299
You're trolling me, right? 42mm is totally different from 35mm.

For me 35 feels too wide and unfocused but 42mm is tight, feels natural, and isn't a bit claustrophobic like 50mm can be.

Nope, haven't even owned a zoom in years. Alrighty, if you're shooting on m43, sure there's an almost large difference between the two, but no 7mm of focal length just doesn't make that big of a difference with normals.
>>
Just started with photography few months ago, I find the kit lens kinda not sharp .. 18-55 mm f/3.5 . It's the lens that come with the Nikon d3500. I was thinking of buying the cheap Nikon 35mm f1.8, would a prime lens usually be sharper than a zoom lens?
>>
>>3467756
A broken bottle from a back alley is sharper than most kit lenses. But yeah, a super common first prime lens is a 50mm 1.8. 35s are fun, as are 40mm pancakes.

I like 35mm for its wider view though, 50mm seems like I can't take nice landscapes with it.

Would the 35mm f1.8 be sharper than the kit lens? Also I guess I need to look for lens with AF-P or AF-S since my camera doesn't have a autofocus motor right?

build quality feels great, like even the front/back caps feel of higher quality than my other lenses, focus ring is nice and smooth too. the 1.8 and vc combo is fucking awesome for low light handheld shooting (pic related shot at night time). nice performance wide open too, with the only real shortcoming being a bit of fringing, but 2 seconds with the sliders in camera raw takes care of that pretty well

I would like to thank ken rockwell and ken "fat fuck" wheeler for letting me know how fucking sharp and contrasty this tiny and cheap lens is.

Keep the 1.4 and get the 50 f2.

An old Cosinon 55mm f1.2

At 1.2 it has a terrible glow and is super soft.

At f2 and higher, you could cut a diamond with how sharp it is stopped down.

Definitely my favorite so far.

Not him, I started with a d3300 a couple of years ago, and the 35mm 1.8 is my favorite. I usually carry that and the 55-200 kit because I'm cheap. You want af-s.

I like my Zuiko glasses very much. Especially the 100 mm F2 and the 50 mm F2 macro. Also the 21 mm F3.5 is very nice. Pic was shot with the 100 mm on Provia.

Better than the f1.4?

I'm thinking of picking up a fuji 35mm, but at 'only' f2 how much wider (and what effect) is it over the kit at the same length?
>>
>>3467749
the lower the focal length, the greater the difference between each mm of difference.
35~40 is still a big difference. it's not until you get to 55+ that the difference diminishes significantly, note the big jump in focal lengths offered past the 50s

yes sharp lense is irrelevant as we can do cool instagram style oversharpening in photoshop right after we push vibrance slider to the max and contrast slider halfway the maximum

I love the Canon Extender EF 2x III and have 2 of them. Often I bring all with me where having either of those on different cameras. Soon I'll get another for that sweet Canon EOS M5 as now I favour dslr a bit more.

Not super common, can be expensive, but also the only dedicated ~28mm equivalent half-frame lens.

>Pentax 6x7 45mm f4

My only lens this wide so far. A lot of fun to shoot, and the prints/scans look great.

Are those radioactive too or is only with the wider fast lenses? It's quite fast for old 135mm so it could be treated with who knows what.

Currently I have Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 135 3.5 and I have been using it for the compression and isolation effect on subjects. Just walk further away.

Btw. the Canon 24-105mm f/4-5.6 IS STM on the left is fixed to approx. 65mm to result in 105mm in respect of the 1.6 crop of the M5. The retracted lens has not been used for several weeks now.. The one used for this shot is fixed to 50mm, though.
>>
