Falling man and burning monk do give feelings. The others not that much.

Blue board so not going to post the full photo but the LingChi executions do stay in your mind for a while. Especially their faces if you're used to see gore.

LingChi is also known as the death from thousand cuts. A type of execution in which you get parts of your body taken off bit by bit and you're kept alive with some drugged tea.
Their faces show some contrast with what happens. I lost the interview of the French photographer but it's interesting if you can find it.

Because at the time it was presented as a deliberate American-ordered napalm strike on innocent civilians. What actually happened was the South Vietnamese Air Force bombed a group of civilians by mistake as a part of Trang Bang operation which Americans had literally nothing to do with. The civilians had been taking cover inside the village's temple, which both sides knew and avoided fighting in its area. The temple was also marked clearly for pilots to know to avoid it. When the fighting between ARVN and NVA eventually started shifting closer to the temple, the civilians decided to try and make a run for the ARVN lines, but the SV pilot flying close air support spotted them running out of town, thought they were a group of NVA trying to attack, and dropped a napalm strike on them when they were out of the no-strike zone.

All of this was presented in a completely false context because it was too delicious for the greedy journalists of the time to pass up.

south vietnam was supported and equpped by the us. Basically the whole war was about keeping vietnam under western control. Yes this bombing came from south vietnamese troops, still there were countless war crimes and atrocities commited by the us, just google the my lay massacre. The context of this picture was always known, maybe some newspaper reported it wrong. Still this picture shows the horror that was brought by this war.

Kevin Carter
On 24 July 1994, Carter drove to Parkmore near the Field and Study Centre, an area where he used to play as a child, and committed suicide by taping one end of a hose to his pickup truck’s exhaust pipe and running the other end to the driver's side window. He died of carbon monoxide poisoning at the age of 33. Portions of Carter's suicide note read:[17]

I'm really, really sorry. The pain of life overrides the joy to the point that joy does not exist. ...depressed ... without phone ... money for rent ... money for child support ... money for debts ... money!!! ... I am haunted by the vivid memories of killings & corpses & anger & pain ... of starving or wounded children, of trigger-happy madmen, often police, of killer executioners ... I have gone to join Ken if I am that lucky.

The final line is a reference to his recently deceased colleague Ken Oosterbroek.

>“This photograph had a decisive role in my life. I have never stopped being obsessed by this image of pain, at once ecstatic and intolerable. I wonder what the Marquis de Sade would have thought of this image, Sade who dreamed of torture, (which was inaccessible to him) but who never witnessed an actual torture session. In one way or another this image was incessantly before his eyes. But Sade would have wanted to see it in solitude, at least in relative solitude, without which the ecstatic and voluptuous effect is inconceivable. What I suddenly saw, and what imprisoned me in anguish — but which at the same time delivered me from it — was the identity of these perfect contraries, divine ecstasy and its opposite, extreme horror. And this is my inevitable conclusion to a history of eroticism."
>George Bataille

>A type of execution in which you get parts of your body taken off bit by bit and you're kept alive with some drugged tea.
That's actually a myth spread by the first westerners who encountered this bizarre and cruel custom, but didn't entirely understand it IIRC.
The actual execution happened relatively quickly in the process, often while the victim was heavily drugged or intoxicated (hence their often strangely euphoric expressions). Most if not all mutilations were done postmortem.

That's pretty damn gruesome.

The west sort of controls Vietnam today, but I think it was a good thing the Americans gave up in their quest to kill civilians.
If USA had won that war, then 95% of the Vietnamese males today would suffer from circumcision, just like they do in South Korea.

Thanks to the Sacrifices of North Vietnam, their children are free from the chopping block.

Pretty sure the shooter was a military leader and the other guy was the enemy forces that were caught attempting to raid one of his relatives houses. The enemy would try to kill you or your family if they found out where you lived so he popped him early in the morning when brought to him because he had a war to fight if I recall correctly. The photographer was shocked and thought he was gonna only interrogate him or whatever.

Because you're putting words in my mouth. I remember he was a criminal. I don't remember what kind of crime it was. It could well have been kiddie diddling. It could have been stealing bread to feed an orphanage. If I really cared, I'd look it up. I don't so I'm not. Incidentally, that's how skepticism actually works. It's not "durr, it's up to anyone but me to prove any and every fact" as much as it is "I have resources I can use to judge the credibility of a statement. Let me apply them. Oh, it seems there's some questions as to just how truthful that is? I'll bring those up."

Right now, you're just being a solipsistic tard. Remember, debate isn't about finding truth, it's about winning. The rules of debate are useless if you give a damn about truth.

literally nothing in your image even implies that either photo was staged, the fuck? for all we know those could be two separate beaches and two different kids, they might not have even washed up in the same month. even if it is staged then it still conveys a pretty strong in your face message. because scenes like this must have happened thousands of times before.

Get fucked guy.
>>
>>3465303
It's not invented, the kid died, you moronic shitposter.
>>
>>3465303
on one here is inventing any stories
there are tons of stories how smugglers push people off the boat in different circumstances.

these photographs are a projection of a much larger picture that happen with in our society but far away from our eyesight.
if you can't dig into the entry level conceptual philosophy of the photographs then you should not be on a photography forum.
>>
>>3465304
It is in the scene that they presented.
>>3465305
Get a picture of that. Don't move around a body then try to pass it off as an authentic scene you stumbled across. I get conceptual photography; I'm just asserting that changing scenes for a more photographic picture crosses major lines in journalistic photography. I don't give a shit what you do with images you're not trying to pass off as journalism.
>>
>>3465314
yeah the kid was dead and the photograph was very impactful when it was published.
slap a label on it or not photograph delivered its purpose by perfectly documenting the event and representing a issue.
thats what the true essence of photography is.
>>
>>3465317
>perfectly documenting
Except it literally didn't because the documented scene was a fake scene that worked to undermine the general reliability of photojournalism.

Ffs, you might as well say we can get rid of all photos and videos from D-Day because we have Saving Private Ryan.
>>
>>3465331
you think its a fake scene i don't
im just implying your thinking

a lot of photographs have been posted itt. which were very impactful when it got published. the photography was not common in those days. so are those photos also staged?
why you're being biased to only this photograph?
it conveyed its message and it was impactful. its visual representation of human tragedy. the kid died because of the reasons which this photo is suggesting even if you believe its fake or not. so it is a documentations of an event my dear /pol/tard.
>>
>>3465354
No, it is a fake scene irrespective of anyone's feelings or opinions. That's what staging does. This doesn't matter for any kind of photography outside of documentary, photojournalism, and technical. This falls into one of the categories where it matters.

I'm only talking specifically about this image because it was the topic of conversation when I came in. I take this stand with any and every staged photo that someone tries to pass off as anything other than staged.

Dunno why you think I'm a /pol/tard, plus I don't think you know too much about photojournalism as that field has had some major scandals over the last decade. When you add into that the general distrust of media, if you have the slightest stake in photojournalism, you give a major shit about maintaining reliability because that's one of the huge things that keeps your job relevant and valuable.
>>
>>3465372
All of what conspiracy? The image was proven faked. There's no debate or argument over this. They staged it. There's been a good half dozen other photojournalists who have been caught doing shit like staging and photoshopping images in the past few years too, all of which are undeniable.

What do you have against facts Anon?

Faked how?
Was the child not dead, just pretending to be dead?
Was is not washed off on a coast off Turkey?
Was it not a Syrian refugee trying to get to Greece/Europe?

>b-but they moved him, they didn't leave him where he was originally found
Shitty thing if the *reporters* did that just for the sake of a better shot.
But doesn't diminish the context or truthfulness of the message in the slightest. A refugee kid, among others, drowned in the Aegean while fleeing to Europe.

Also you speak of being staged as if it were a fact. Where's the evidence?
A quick search for it being staged, only brings up some tinfoil ramblings of a guy from aussie UKIP and a woman from actual UKIP.
Guy goes so far to claim the child was an actor and is alive and well.
You sure don't base your proofs on those people anon, do you?

Just so everyone knows, that police officer with the camera isn't the one who took the famous photo. It (and several others that didn't go viral) was shot by photojournalist Nilüfer Demir.
