Any suggestions for a cheap 4wd for weekend driving, lugging things around?

Doesn't have to be a jeep, preferably 2 door and not a total pos.
Thanks.

Jeep YJ. A Ford or Chevy pickup with a camper shell. You're not going to find a cheap, full size 4WD unless it's older.

I love my YJ but it's a pain in the ass that I can't keep anything in it without risking it getting taken.

also Rubicons have Dana 44s which is not going to be cheap ever. Dana 35s have a c-clip holding the rear axles in place, 44s are a lot stronger. Isuzu Troopers have them, but those are rare and not cheap.

Just get a Gen 1 Honda CR-V. Roof rack, obviously good for kayaks and such, and lay the back seats down for storage space (I've slept in the back of one shitfaced before, very comfy).

A 90s bronco maybe , have a tendency to rust if you’re in the rust belt but not structurally all of them are 4wd and all the engines are decently good

If OP actually wants to traverse any remotely difficult terrain he'll want something with a transfer case.

Jeep Cherokee XJ
Chevy S10 Blazer / GMC Jimmy
Ford Bronco 2
In a pinch: Subaru Forester
Check for rust on all of them

I dont see anything about difficult terrain in OP's post.

I agree, but his wording is too vague to be certain.

is $4200 too much for a clean 88 Ford Bronco II with 119XXX miles? It's a 5 speed with 4x4.

I’m assuming he didn’t mean garbage though.

friendly reminder that consumer reports had to modify their tests and try a dozen times to roll it, one of the top officials was also caught on audio pressuring the drivers to make it tip
