Hey /o/

What kind of truck should I buy if I want an indestructible vehicle in the case of an accident? I'd like to put on one of those massive steel bumpers on it that circumvent crash regulations.
I just saw a family of 4 in a civic get their shit rocked by a speeding silverado on the highway and I don't want that to happen to me.

Pic related. Doesn't matter if you hit someone or someone hits you. They're totalled and you drive off. Mom had 2 of these truggs, rolled one over on black ice going like 60. Truck looked ugly but fired right up and drove straight. Don't build em like they used to.

This is exactly why every mom needs an SUV: retards, trucks, and lack of responsibility. Autists can screech about stacy crossovers all they want but at the end of the day the F150 is the most common thing with 4 wheels on the roads and you don't want to be flattened by a drunk fag in his ram-150 lariat king power wagon edition denali.

I enjoy driving sedans but wouldn't put my crotchfruit in one.

You should just have better parenting culture and Driver’s education course and license requirements. 80% of the people driving don’t even know basic motoring laws, and a majority of those people have depth perception and cognitive disabilities
>>
>>21209433
This. I generally hate more regulations but there should really be more stringent drivers license requirements here in the U.S. Like my driving test when I first got my license was just driving around a suburban neighborhood. No highway stuff or merging or anything. I swear there are fucking idiots on the road here that don't even know shit like the left lane is for passing/faster vehicles.
>>
>>21208610
One of these will probably fuck up even a brodozer.
>>
>>21209452
Merging and 4 way stops are cancer in the US. Nashville has all their on ramps before the off ramps too, so 1 exit will block 3 lanes of traffic for 5 miles. I will die from an aneurysm
>>
>>21209471
I live near Little Rock and commute a lot, there are a couple ramps like that around here where there is an on ramp with merging vehicles while you're trying to exit, and the vehicles getting on the highway are going like 40 mph trying to merge. There is one on ramp in particular I have to take when I'm in school that makes me want to fucking kill every day. Like if you are trying to merge and anyone is in front of you on the ramp you're just fucked.
>>
>>21209452
If I'm in the left lane going the speed limit, I'm doing the right thing. We all must follow laws, this is why I go speed limit in left lane and redline my shitbox whenever someone tries to pass. Laugh as they can't get around my 20 year old Honda, than drop speed back to speed limit. Cutting through traffic saves you no time and only makes the motorway dangerous. It's my personal mission to fuck over faggots like you go the speed limit. Cutting traffic doesn't save you any time when we stop at the same red light. Idiots
>>
>>21209469
well no shit dumbass
>>
>>21209489
yes, forcing everyone to go the same speed doesn't congest traffic at all. A bunch of vehicles bunched up is way more dangerous than people going 10 over keeping traffic spaced out and moving.
>>
>>21208747
Old trucks are only deathtraps if you roll over or crash into something heavier than you. They just plow through anything else head on because of all the pig iron.
>>
>>21209503
>>21209489
oh and there aren't red lights on the freeway dumb fuck. The left lane to pass laws don't apply on city streets without controlled access you fucking brainlet.

>People going 10 over the speed limit

But that's not what happens. You retards accelerate 20+ over the speed limit, cut a car off, than slam on your breaks when you realize all cars on the road follow a speed limit. This accelerating and slamming on the breaks thing you retards do is what causes all the traffic and accidents. Chill in your lane and if no one cut anyone off we'd all get home early. But nope. Gotta redline than break check because the lane next to me is going .05 mph faster.
>>
>>21209172
>67-79 Ford F series

I don't know if they fixed everything for 67, but my 65 has the gas tank behind the seat, no lap belts, solid metal dash, solid metal steering column, single cylinder master brake, drums all around. yeah, real safe.
>>
>>21209563
Wtf are you talking about retard? I'm talking about on the highway. 90% of the time traffic flows fine and there is a stream of cars passing the slower cars and then there will be some stupid fuck camping in the left lane doing 65 mph completely oblivious. I honestly don't think they're even doing it deliberately most of the time. I think they're just stupid as fuck and actually don't see the signs saying "slower traffic keep right"
>>
>>21209570
I kind of missed the point of the thread saying that he wanted something indestructible in a crash. Yeah any old truck isn't really safe in a crash, but no modern vehicle is indestructible unless it's like a medium-heavy duty truck. So yeah OP is a retarded fuck

>>
>>21209581
If going the speed limit, one is excused from "slower traffic keep right" because they are already going as fast as possible on that particular motor way.

The 78-79 Bronco came with only 351 or 400 V8s. It was soon replaced by a slightly smaller 1980 model that offered six cylinder and 305 engines. The 400 V8 disappeared and the 351 became the biggest engine offered from the factory (1985 was the last year for 351s).

I'm not sure where the fuck your retarded ass got your information. You're right about the 78-79 models. The next gen from 1980+ had the 351m or 351w as an option in the first few years then the 351m was phased out once 351w production was enough. Ford didn't have a 305 then, that was GM. It also had a 300 i6 option. 1985 was NOT the last year for 351s. It seems like you don't know that there were different Ford engines with 351 ci. The bronco from like 1982-1996 had 351w, 302, and 300 i6 options

I want to say this was motivated by the economic recession but that started in spring 79 which would have been too late to make major changes to the 1980 models as they were due out in showrooms in four months. I'm sure it ended up being a good call though given the state of the economy and fuel prices in 79-82.
>>
>>21216351
More likely CAFE regulations which came into effect in 79 (thus goodbye big block engines). Ford downsized several of their vehicles for 1980 which was already planned out and in the works well before the recession hit.

So in a crash you'll first be impaled on the dashboard and your body then pressed backwards into the gas tank which blows Michael Bay style and turns you into a barbecue pit. :^) (^:
>>
https://www.carsforsale.com/1959-ford-f-100-for-sale-C1049079

Note in at least two of these listing the gas tank was moved under the bed to be safer.
>>
I haven't heard of the cab mounted gas tank constituting any particular safety hazard--Ford had them on all their pickups from the beginning--Model As had them in the cowl. Unless the truck fell off the Grand Canyon or something it's not likely to be in an impact situation where the gas tank would rupture. If you got into a collision hard enough to rupture it, you would have already died from the impact forces so your body being charbroiled by exploding gasoline would be merely incidental.
>>
The major problem I can see is if you have a leaky tank, you could get sick from the fumes and it there is a source of ignition then it could be very bad. Most likely the leak would be from the sending unit gasket. It's all about proper maintenance, if you smell something check it out and repair it.
>>
>>21220877
Is a little annoying hearing the gas sloshing around when you make turns though.
>>
>>21220886
You really can only hear it at 1/2 or less tank full and it's just a reminder it needs a fillup.
>>
I doubt it's a problem. Remember that Ford had cab-mounted tanks for 25 years (1948-73) and at a time when people smoked at a much higher rate than today, and I've never heard any stories of the things blowing up. As long as the tank is in good shape (no visible wetness or smell) and all your connections and sender gasket are good you'll be just fine.
>>
>>21220906
I used to DD a 56 F100 and despite being a smoker I never once smelled any gas fumes. I was still kind of pissed though because some wiseguy (filling station attendant? UAW worker back in the 50s when it was assembled? who knows) put a marble in the tank and you could hear it rolling around in there and I could never be bothered to take the tank apart and remove the damn thing.
>>
I replaced the cab tank in my 1970 with a 22 gallon Mustang tank in the bed. No matter how well sealed it is, I could still smell gas fumes especially after a fillup.

You won't die in a conflagration if you get in a crash, although I can understand why you'll feel that having it in the bed is safer just from a psychological POV.

It frees up some but not a lot of cab room.

Not everyone likes the idea of hearing sloshing gasoline as they're driving, especially not women--they get really panicky at that.

The Mustang tank is bigger than the original tank which only holds 17 gallons, you don't run out of gas as quickly especially with the thirsty engines they had in the early 70s.

It makes it easier to run dual exhaust.
>>
>>21220932
I wouldn't do that if I were you. Remember--the gas tank in a 1970 Mustang was of the same design used in exploding Pintos. I have never heard of any documented case where a cab gas tank in a Ford pickup exploded. It's high up and surrounded by sheet metal. You'd have to be hit by a train or a semi for there to be any risk of the gas tank rupturing and in that case you would be dead anyway from the impact force and the all metal dash/steering column/lack of shoulder belts on Ford pickups of this vintage.
>>
Then again only 22 deaths were confirmed from exploding Pintos. And putting the Mustang tank in my 1970 F-100 was really helpful because of the additional 5 gallons it holds. The 351 engine is thirsty and with the original tank I'd be running out of gas constantly.
>>
As far as the safety aspect of an in-cab tank goes, consider the 73-87 Chevy trucks. Those trucks had side saddle tanks that were located on the outside of the frame rail just behind the the bedside and cab sheetmetal. There was a massive class action lawsuit over the safety hazard this design represented. In reality there were only 155 fatalities attributed to fires in side impact collisions out of the millions of those trucks that GM built--and not all of those were a direct result of a ruptured fuel tank. That's a minuscule percentage of the number of those trucks that were and are on the road. The liklihood of a fire was so remote that Dateline NBC actually had to rig one to get it to explode for their TV segment--and consequently got their butts in hot water over it. One would expect the passenger compartment to be about the safest place to be in a vehicle in the event of a collision. If you're worried about a fire, where else would you want it
>>
>>21220906
>Remember that Ford had cab-mounted tanks for 25 years (1948-73) and

1953-55 trucks had the tank moved to under the driver's side running board outside the frame. I have no idea why. It was moved back behind the seat for 56 and I don't know why this was done either. I have a lot of dealer's literature from this period and none of it has any hint as to the reason for this design change.
>>
Ok nevermind. I checked through the dealer literature and for 53 it says the tank was moved to provide more storage space in the cab. But then why did they move it back in 56?
>>
There's no such thing as a 100% safe gas tank location on a vehicle.
>>
It may well be possible that lighting a cigarette could cause the tank to blow if it's leaking fumes. Inside a truck cab it could spread quickly from igniting the carpet and being in an enclosed space you're likely to suffocate from smoke or be unable to escape in time. Although I'm sure you'd smell gasoline if that was going to happen.
>>
If you were in an accident severe enough to rupture the tank, you would probably die anway.

I'd worry more about the steering wheel impaling you than I would the tank exploding.

This could be a clue. I wouldn't be surprised if the tank on the 53-55 trucks was prone to getting hit by road debris so they moved it back to the cab where it was nicely protected.
>>
I've seen a lot of pre-1973 pickups in all manner of collision damage from fender benders to totally reduced to scrap, but none of them ever caught fire. They moved the tanks from the cab for added room.

If this was possible it would have happened by now
>>
I'm fairly sure they moved the tanks to the bed in the 70s to get more room in the cab, not because it was less safe. The infamous saddle mounted tanks on 73-87 GM pickups were suspected of being unsafe by some of the engineering department but marketing were adamant about fulfilling their promise to customers of 40 gallon capacity, which wasn't possible if they'd continued to have the tank in the cab.

Hahaha stay seething, poor.
And drive fucking faster or pull the fuck over lol

Things have become so regulated that vehicles have grown atrociously expensive and ugly.

You kidding? You're better off in a Civic. If a brodozer crashes into one of those tin cans they'll explode into a million bits.

>I just saw a family of 4 in a civic get their shit rocked by a speeding silverado on the highway
Irrational fear. Trillions of people drive everyday unharmed.

Buy a semi truck or a super duty.

Was coming home late one night, came up to a head on collision involving a semi and a crew cab super duty.

Dude in the semi had a broken hip but the truck itself wasn’t that bad.

Dude in the superduty fell asleep and went into the other lane. Truck was such a mess he was literally hidden under the dash. But he lived. Truck was hit so hard the spare tire mounted underneath was launched backwards 40 feet.
