In here we have jobs.

Ef has a stupid me gear shifter that’s too damn high!

Mills might be getting canned for being an insufferable faggot

Bitcoin is still working while banned because ck hated his threads.

Can’t remember what other truck fags did. If you want to get into trucking: don’t.

1. You won’t like it.
2. We don’t want you.
3. Nobody likes you.
4. It’s too hard.
5. You’ll make money that you won’t need.

Enjoy!

I work local building material delivery, smaller loads to more locations within 6 hours of driving, typically small businesses in the day than my 13 speed flatbed coworkers. I had a 2004 single axle Freightliner Business Class M2 with a 30ft single axle trailer. Now I'm getting a "new" truck. A double axle 2008 Sterling with a DPF but no DEF system. Trailer will eventually be replaced with a 36' double axle. Am I wrong to feel upset about this change? The Sterling is comfy but I think it's moot when I'm having to get in and out of a bigger truck so many times a day. My other concern is that it feels slower and less powerful even though the M2 had a 280hp MBE900 vs a supposed "upped" 450hp engine. Already had to to a parked regen which sounded like a jet taking off for 20 minutes lol.

I was thinking about buying a used chassis cab pickup like a ram 5500. Any have experience with these style of trucks and can recommend things to check for? I've found some dealers with examples under 100k miles so I figure they can't be too worn out but at the same time why were they traded in?
>>
>>21052753
What's the problem? It's a tool someone pays you to drive. How big are you to have to worry about one more step up in a cab? Just get in it and drive.

Definitely not getting fired. Head of training says this kind of shit happens all the time and I would've had to of done something catastrophic to get fired. He's got 14 guys to get in trucks ahead of me so he said I'm probably home for the week though, so that sucks.

Rubbed the right nose of the truck on a concrete safety pole during backing into a pretty tight space. Dude was out of position and I had asked that morning for some more guidance on backing. We had an argument after the incident and I asked for a new trainer.

Head of training also said that normally he takes the trainers word over the student, but in this situation hes aware that my trainer can be hard to deal with, and that he totally understood me wanting off the truck.

I'm currently broke and unemployed. How / where would I go about getting a CDL and signing on with a company, and is that a good idea? I don't have family or anything and only need to make about $35k gross (what my last job paid) to live comfortably. I have a clean driving record and don't mind sleeping in a vehicle or even camping out, as I've lived out of cars and in a tent before.

Bonus, I already know how to drive an unsynchronized manual and back a trailer, although I've never driven anything with a hi/lo range or hauled a trailer so large.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/features/amazon-sued-trucking-prime-logo.amp

>>
>>21061264
Nice try, but I'm not picking sides out of those two shitbags
>>
>>21060674

O/O here and SE regional, rates have cooled a tad but they're back to pre-ELD mandate levels which is why truck sales crashed. Idiots bought up trucks for a bubble that's popping right now and those of us who stayed the course and didn't buy into the hype are reaping the benefits

>>21061264

Robbie has a valid suit though. Since we grew, a lot of other smaller companies have followed suit. There's a Primelink, Prime Leasing (which has actually been confused with us and they even state in their Facebook ads WE ARE NOT PRIME INC) Primeway, Prime Way, Amazon Prime (their trucks just say Prime though, no mention of Amazon) Prime Load, Prime Trucking and a few others I've forgotten probably. We have a reputation for being on time and being safe and we charge a huge premium for it and Rob is contending that these smaller guys who are undercutting him are trying to do the same

The contention here is that they are afraid their rep will be tarnished if one of those trucks plows into a schoolbus full of kids and kills everyone. Realistically, they will settle out of court.
>>
Amazon prime trucks are crazy. Mostly ungoverned Alphonses
I got passed on a 2 lane one night when I was 60 in a 55.and he almost caused a head on collision
2 miles later he whipped into a truck stop
>>
>>21061620

that's pretty much why Rob is going after them. They're big enough if they do something stupid the equally-stupid public will have a negative opinion of his company. It only takes one incident to destroy someone's reputation and people are gullible, don't believe me look at all the Jeffrey Epstein fakes circulating

Knight seemed kind of sad because we aren't teaming anymore, but oh well. We might team for the winter, or we might take it off, I am still unsure. But being stuck in California sucks. I just wanna get certified for diesel mechanics already and make money not being on the road. I'll be sticking to mostly west, and I think she will be I-5 exclusive, and I plan to go there too. There's always freight there, and from what I'm reading, freight sucks heading west from the east coast with our company.
>>
>>21062776
Freight sucks heading west from the east coast with any company. The east coast is where the majority of the country's population is and they consume freight like a black hole. Everything goes in, little comes back out.

That may be an exaggeration but it's really lopsided. I had to wait for 3 days in Vermont to get a load heading west for my home time when I first started and was OTR. BTW the truck stop in St. Albans, VT is cool af if you're ever up there. The trucker's lounge is some secret club shit where you enter an unmarked door on the side of the building and go down two flights of stairs into the basement and then there's a lounge with laundry/shower chairs & tables, TV and wifi. Also I was like the only guy down there for the whole 3 days. Maybe 2 or 3 people popped in for the showers and immediately left. Was fuckin' chill.

Yeah for sure. Haha Ive actually been looking at ways to get some eyes on my blind spots while Im backing, at least until I get good at it. The guy that drove me home told me that he knew guys that used like a drone in follow/hover mode and I was thinking about just getting a little wireless camera with a magnet or something. I dunno. I know its the bitch way out but Im definitely thinking about the drone route or getting an attachable camera for sure.
>>
>>21063420

Just pay attention to your surroundings. Its a good idea to thoroughly look at the area you're backing in towards as you aproach.
>>
>>
Probably the most retarded place I've been is vistar Houston. You enter east to west, there is signage specifically posted that you cannot enter from the other side or back into the gate. you MUST blind side it in, per vistar mgmt. And it's tight as a jew purse strings. If there are trailers parked along the fence like in the pic you can't even try, you have to go ask them to move or flag down one of their drivers and ask them to move it if it's a dropped trailer. The fence is permanently leaned from trucks nosing into it constantly and they had to set up poles to keep trucks from just driving over the fucking fence because it happened too much. And the dock doors are so fucking close together, when they give you a door between two trucks its just a shit time m8. Obviously easier for daycab but there are plenty of trucks there with full sleepers every morning and it's always a fucking circus because everyone wants to get in and get a door as soon as they open so the adjacent door might be empty and make it easier on them.

What projection? I just mention that I'm happy with my life and job where I'm at, and it seems like if I'm not making 500k+ a year, I'll never be good. But the truth is, I'm happy, and not everyone reaches for greatness. I'm as far as I wanna go with my CDL, now it's time for me to do something that I'll enjoy more. There's more to life than money.

My life may be pathetic to you, but I enjoy it. It's my life, and I like it.

>500k a year
Nah, I never said that. What I did say is there are better, more lucrative jobs to be had.

This isn't all or nothing. You can average 55-60k a year pulling LTL local and be home everyday. That seems like a better life than 35k OTR and home every 6-8 weeks.

It does seem to me though, that if you're experienced and out here for a month or more at a time, that you should be making bank, Not less than 'bout town bois.

Not telling you to hate your life either, just that you can do better.
>>
>>21067260
Why not any gay driving? Are you a bigot.
>>
>>21066730
Lmao right? I never understood that. Knight would sit drivers if they didn't take a load that they didn't want (non-forced dispatch), but who cares? Keeps you from going where you don't wanna go, and you get some time to clean the truck, sight see, etc.

>>21067765
I'd like to do LTL, but where I live, there isn't too much of an option for that, and whatever options there are, I have too little experience. Not to mention, I got 1 ticket in my personal vehicle and 1 pending because fuck I-5 Grapevine CHP, and I don't have 2 years. I wish to get off the road, but first, I need to find a home to go to when I am finished with work. I am stuck in OTR because I have no permanent residence at the moment. But that'll be fixed soon, hopefully.

As for making bank, you're not wrong, I could be making more than 40 CPM solo/50 CPM team, but I'm really comfy here, but once I'm forced to use ELDs, Knight will be just like any other mega carrier. That'll make it easier to switch. I like the fact that Knight doesn't give a shit where I BT to, so long as it's within a reasonable distance, so to like, Walmart, restaurants, etc, with unlimited PC time and no calls about "wasted fuel". I get to pretend for a bit I own that truck and get to take it wherever I damn well please so long as it's a truck route or a parking lot I can park a BT in.

With LTL, I'll have to be an adult and actually work without too much fun. OTR is super comfy, but the pay sucks so bad unless you're an O/O.

So basically, I chose my poison, sacrifice money for some chill time and hometime whenever I want, over some serious money but more work.

>TL/DR: I'm lazy and comfy at the moment, but that could change.

Genuine question. It's almost guaranteed I'm about to be laughed off the board, but how do you guys feel about Tesla's Semis? Seems like they're going to make hauling much easier. Quieter, probably will feel nicer, no fuel costs and likely some massive batteries to boost that range, and no fuel costs. Seems like a win?
>>
>Here comes a new challenger

For fuck's sake.

>>21070778
They do seem nice, the old truckers will laugh at you constantly, but while you get rid of fuel, you still have an electrical bill to pay, not to mention, batteries. I wish they were fully automatic, would be perfect for shuttle trucks or just to get to DCs from interstates.
>>
>>21070778
Electric has a potential application for short haul freight such as moving around a metro area but it's still a loooong ways from matching the range of diesel. I've heard many companies are interested in changing to electric yard trucks though since range isn't really an issue.
>>
>>21070786
True about the electrical bill, but from what I've seen off of their consumer vehicles, it doesn't add too much to a home bill.

Batteries, yeah I could see that being a problem, being expensive if they go bad, but that wouldn't be an expense until much further down the road, so probably just the same as any other long-term maintenance.

I'll admit, I assumed they were fully automatic. What sort of transmission do they use?
>>
>>21070803
I think he meant autonomous, they don't need a transmission
>>
>>21070799
According to Wikipedia (not the most trustworthy source, I know), the range on a Tesla semi at maximum is 500 miles. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but the average range of a diesel is about 2000, correct? Yeah, I can see the issues as a long-haul truck now.
>>
>>21070778

I want one

>mfw maxed out yanking all those LWB hood trucks up the hill in an all-electric Prime cuck wagon
>>
>>21070813

500 is fine, that's how many miles most of us do a day without running out of your 70 later on

you could run, park the truck and charge it while you do your 10
>>
>>21070811
Ahh, that makes sense. That's why I was confused about what he said. The autonomous driving can't be too far off by now, and I'm sure the assists they offer now would go a long way towards making trucking less stressful.

>>21070815

They just seem nice desu. Not a trucker but if I were, I'd put up with the hassle of one.
>>
>>21070816
That sounds reasonable, especially since they should be full after 10 hours of charging. Would be nice not having to pull off when you run low.
>>
>>21070813
I really want to see it do 500 miles at 80,000 gross weight, I feel like the 500 figure isn't entirely truthful. That's the high end for electric vehicles at a fraction of the weight.
>>
>>21070821
This also provides a certain logistical challenge in making sure there is a charging point within 500 miles along the route your load is traveling though. What happens when you end 100 miles short of a charge point then need to head in the opposite direction?

This is another one of those infrastructural issues that can be solved in time, but right now there are more diesel fuel stations than you can shake a pool noodle at, but I'm not aware of any charging stations a semi could park at. If current truck stops adopt chargers they would have to be located in the designated parking spaces and then they would also need to enforce not allowing non-electrics to take that parking spot. It seems like a real headache desu

There’s simply no legitimate reason for an 80-foot tractor trailer to be driven within a few feet of other motorists, at speeds of 70 or 75 or 80 mph. The safety benefits of Senate Bill 2033 are obvious
>>
>>21071855
Relative speed of a vehicle to other traffic is the metric that determines how safely it is operating rather than an arbitrary max speed. If youre on average limited to 20 mph less than the traffic around you, youre going to be a dangerous obstacle that other drivers have to go around, creating dangerous situations. Simply limiting overall truck speeds isnt going to reduce any number of incidents.

The Alliance noted that “a slower speed limit for trucks than the speed limit for cars, known as a differential speed limit, does not compromise safety” and that, “Most states currently restrict large trucks to 65 mph on state-controlled highways.”

Any time you have to change lanes to account for a slower vehicle increases your chance for an incident. More movement is more dangerous.
>>21071902
Again the statistics show that variance of speed relative to the speed of traffic is a greater indicator of likelyhood for incident rather than overall speed. If you limit big trucks ability to go a speed relative to the speed of traffic around it, it will 100% create more dangerous situations.
>>
>>21071922
Only shit drivers create dangerous situations. Guess what USA drivers are.
>>
I’m getting pretty bored of this lately
>>
>>21071933
Good drivers create dangerous situations too. Passes have to be made. If youre trying to pass something that its variance in speed relative to traffic is 15-20 mph, making that lane change can be very dangerous regardless of how good of a driver you are.

the booster has lock pins so technically you can back it up if you can get it completely straight on the pump, but you’ve gotta dump the air and the nitrogen before doing so, so most of the time it’s faster to just drop the trailer somewhere and bobtail to the pump. most pumps are 12-14’ wide so obviously I can’t pull through

the booster attached to the back of the trailer uses a nitrogen-charged cylinder to basically lift up on the back of the trailer to transfer weight to the booster. some boosters just use air or hydraulic cylinders but with the nitrogen one there’s less fluctuation and you never have to shim it
>>
>>21072953

>>21072811
You're living the dream, doing better than any flatbedder or vanboi, driving a daycab, and setting up shop in a different hotel each night. That's pretty cool.

How does the hotel thing work? What if you run out of hours, does the pilot car pick you up?
>>
>>21073100
It depends, for one thing I’m really meticulous in planning my trips and I’ve never run out of hours since I went to ELD but if I’m cutting it close I’ll park, switch to on duty for my post trip while I drop the trailer and kick tires and shit and then sign out completely and when I log in the next morning it shows unassigned driving time for the truck and I just don’t claim it. they’ve never found it when they’ve checked my logs but if they did I’d just say it was personal conveyance, which it was. I usually won’t catch rides with the pilots unless they’re one of our in-house ones that are paid hourly but if they’re contracted I don’t bug them with that shit because it’s not part of their job
>>
>>21073189
I talked to a heavy haul driver & his wife at a diner once, said she was his pilot car in a luxury van with a bed in the back so they never got hotels. Have you considered seducing a qt to be your pilot/hotel room on wheels?
>>
>>21073207
ehh not really, I like having my own shower and a king size bed and all that shit. the reason I never wanted to do OTR was just that I’m pretty bad at sleeping and knew I would have a hard time sleeping in a truck so this system works out well enough for me. plus I’ve racked up so many rewards points with IHG and Hilton, I could take an awesome vacation if I ever took time off

>>
>>21075110
1. no. every place that's developing the automation software has admitted they can't really handle driving off of interstates/major highways. they're all focused on automating the part where you drive in a straight line for 1000 miles, most of them intend to use it as a driver aid rather than a driver replacement. There's one place that's trying to create remote controlled trucks that drivers operate from a cubicle but I don't really see that taking off either.

2. The maximum in a rolling 8 day period is 70 hours, it varies job to job. I pull a reefer and I'm regional to the OK/TX area, I average about 50 hours a week. slow weeks I just barely break 40. Hard weeks (this week) I maxed my 70 in 5 days and had to shut it down on the road.

3. I've never seen any. But truckers are all kinda of freaks

4. No. Mostly middle aged men. When I started at I was a baby-faced 23 year old and people constantly gave me double takes and made comments about my age.

5. No. A lot of dispatchers are former drivers, but that's usually the end of it. Being a driver doesn't really translate to the intricacies of the logistics industry that trucking companies expect from their office folk

6. No. you're too optimistic for this job. look elsewhere.

wait so there are a lot of gay twinks in trucking? ARE U SERIOUS

also, if I only drive 40 hours a week ( but say 50 hours total work if u include loading and checking in and out ), then how much will I make starting out?

Thank you so much and stay safe out there! I was an EMT for a few years and we, unfortunately, got called to a few trucking accidents. They are rare, but they are gruesome.
>>

im a very very quiet person actually. Thank u for the insight!!!

>also, if I only drive 40 hours a week ( but say 50 hours total work if u include loading and checking in and out ), then how much will I make starting out?

This mistake here is assuming you have a choice. Unless you dive into the deep end with your own truck, your employer will know your limit and continue to expect you to work until they have no more work to give you or until you cannot legally continue.

No one can when they are staring at their cell phone.

no, I don't let employers take advantage of me. I will let people take advantage of my body but not my time!!!
>>
>>21075217
well, see, when you sign on, unless they are a non-forced dispatch company, you'll sign something saying you agree to their terms and policies, and most of them have a policy that if you refuse a load you had the hours to run legally, you will receive a punitive action against you, like written up/strike/whatever system they use, and eventual termination

they look at it as their truck generates revenue and you're just an unfortunate expense in the truck's operation. if you're refusing to operate the truck and generate money for them, you're costing them money and they can't have that.

there are a handful of places that allow non-forced dispatch (driver may refuse loads as he wishes, usually with a stipulation that a certain minimum number of loads per period are completed) and some also have part-time drivers.

1) no automation won’t take jobs, unfortunately. I’d love to get wasted and babysit this truck for 10 bucks an hour.

2) I work all the time.. all the time. I drove for 10.5 hours today, I did a pre trip and post trip, had a forced 30 minute break, and had to get gas, and my card was fucked up so I had to talk to my company about it before it would go. I generally work 12 hours a day, until I hit 70 hours, then do a reset.

3) there are very very few, I’ve never seen one.

4) to move up the corporate ladder you get experience and then go to another company that pays more

5) I want to kill myself every day. Have fun.

New to the trucking game. Is this the right thread for me?

Thinking of applying to companies.

What company should I start out with as a newbie? I want to make decent cash fast. I hear CR England is a shitshow and scam, Swift is kinda bad. What else?

TMC, it'll kick your ass, but make you a great trucker.
>>
>>21075643

ew gross, men shouldn't do that unlelss they are cute twinks sry but it is true

I have ONE more question

Is there anyone who just lives in the truck? Like if I'm gonna be driving all the time then why would I even rent an apartment

At the Love's I'm at, saw what looked like a 40 year old man, looked like an older trucker, wearing Daisy dukes. Wtf.
>>
>>21075646
Hard work, but do flatbed, pays more, usually nicer S/Rs, and if you get tired of flatbedding, you can drag a box around if you want.

TMC will train you good, but you better be ready to keep that truck spotless.

If you're looking for a CDL without the auto restriction, Knight offers their course that way. Personally, might be better going to a good trucking school, so when you apply, you don't have to deal with a trainer longer than necessary.

Hey, I'm 28 and thinking about going into trucking. It seems awesome. I'm an introvert, I don't ever get lonely, I would not mind at all living directly in the truck. It sounds perfect for me. I'm back in school and doing well, but I just realized how much trucking pays and how well it suits my lifestyle. I'm probably going to quit school and become a trucker.

1. Is Knight a good company to work for? I'm from north Mississippi. What are some good companies in the MS/TN area?

2. If I go to CDL school for short haul can I get a job as long haul right out of school?

4. What's the scariest type of roads/driving situations? Like, ice, rain or what?

5. What's the closest you have come to a wreck, and how can you be sure to always be safe?

6. Craziest story? :)

Okay thanks and I will have more questions soon I'm not going to bed yet. I just think I may have found the

yes it is. I’ve been taking these control buildings to Washington and no matter how I plan it I always get stuck in Boise’s curfew so I stop there for fuel and food and I’m thoroughly pleased with that restaurant.

>>21073892
you seem upset
the cute blonde that lives next door to me just swallowed my cum and then proceeded to get on top of me and fuck me again and I wasn’t ready for a round two so I’m a little upset as well

we have a lot in common except that I prefer females
>>
>>21072811

Doesn't it cost way too much? Why not just stay in the truck?
>>
>>21076189
customer pays for it. it’s a little snug without a sleeper
>>
>>21076127
Get a degree and then do trucking. When trucking turns to shit, you still have an option, unlike most truckers.

1. Yes and no. It depends on your dispatcher and whoever trained you. It's non-forced dispatch, so if you don't wanna run in an area, you don't have to. No penalties for turning down loads. You could run on straight recaps or burn your 70 in 5-6 days and do a 34 somewhere. Shops are shit, but the trucks are solid, every truck has 2 bunk beds.

2. It's basically the same thing, although long haul, you'll have a sleeper almost 100% of the time (save for OversizedBoi who gets hotels and drives a daycab), whereas short haul is mostly daycabs and you unload the trailers.

3. Where the fuck?

4. Obviously snow/ice, jackknife is no joke, and having to chain and unchain constantly depending on area gets annoying. Logging trucks drive on some really fucked up roads and still make it look easy, so I'd imagine they'd say their roads.

5. Driving east on the CA-58 and some dickass RV merges in front of me without clearance and almost sends his car into my left steer tire, so I had to slam on the brakes. Other than that, personally, nothing else as major.

6. I got nothing. Never had anything super crazy happen, other than pulling a Swift and almost getting stuck at a Walmart.
>>
Also, this seems to be the new thread: >>21075825
>>
>>21076230

I'm probably not going to get that degree, but eh I will think about it.

I see jobs on indeed saying $80k a year for 2 years trucking experience. I've seen multiple jobs that say $60k-80k with relatively little experience. Is this true or are they exaggerating?

I'm glad to hear that about #6. I am a bit worried about the safety aspect of it.

Now I sleep. Thank you and good night and be safe and maybe I will see you on the road ^_^
>>
>>21076238

k ill post my questions there now thanks
>>
>>21076253
If you bust ass and never go home, you can make that with the low experience jobs. With the 2+ years, depending on type of trucking, can be easy to make and also be home more.
>>
Hey guys, newbie here. What the fuck am I supposed to do about parking? It seems like if you don't get off the road by 17:00 or so, you're shit out of luck when it comes to spots at truck stops.

I've been trying to get started super early so I can be off the road before then, but that's not always an option. Is it worth it to pay for parking just for peace of mind? I never considered this would be such a huge problem with the job, but it's really annoying me now.
>>
>>21065415
>0.26 cpm
Ouch
How long will you be at that rate? You should be making double that
>>
>>21076725
If you're in the NE you're kind of fucked but I've never had a problem with parking except for near major metro areas. You should never plan to park near or in a metro area anyways. Get truckerpath on your phone and start picking spots around where you think you want to end up. Truckerpath has a thing for every parking spot where you can see the history of the lot being full/open so you can kind of gauge whether you will find a spot or not. You'll be able to find at least one open spot pretty often if you stop a bit later like in the early am. Google maps also helps too. Look for huge open lots / really wide streets in industrial areas. You could also trying parking at a Lowe's/Walmart/Target/etc

Hang in there man. You'll make it.
