You must buy Volkswagen, German built the best yes, Lukas.

Id rather have a boring slow car that was intended to be boring and slow. Rather than a boring slow car trying to live up to an anime meme.

I would only get like a polo here for that amount of money.
German cars are overpriced for what you get.

so what are the options.
I dont understand this board, its either a 3k shitbox or a 300k supercar. There is like nothing inbetween.
>>
>>20817558
But it is boring. Have you never felt power before? Its exciting. You could really accidentally murder someone when you mishandle a powerful car. This thing has the power of a 96 v8 mustang. Its a fucking bore.
>>
>>20817567
typical american, the only shit you know are drag races and driving in a straight line.
>>
>>20817567
You're even dumber than I thought
>>
>>20817573
If only it were so easy to discredit me based on an assumption of nationality. There are comparable cars that are more capable than the gt86 that offer much more than it. For example, turn of the decade subarus. Which you can get for a good price and being still young look good for financing.
>>
>>20817547
Buy used and you save like 8 k.
Get one its a great chassis and a great car. Tyres, brakes and good wheels elevate it insanely.

Buy car
Header+filter+tune for 20hp and no torque dip.
Drive around at 5000+ RPM and have fun.
Corners really well with good tires.

unironically buy a ford fiesta st or a mustang.

this are your best options in europe price/performance wise.
>>

may I ask what you drive and how old you are?

before you buy a gt86 you probably should even consider a used mx5 for less than 10k.

mustang is overpriced and handles like shit compared to toyobaru.
Fist is okay.
ND or toyobaru are your only choice for sub 20k good handling still in production fun. Question is only which one feels better to you.
>>

28 and cla250

well you can testdrive the gt86 , i did and for my taste it not as fun as i thought.
>>

well ok but you can get it for way less and optics are personal favour.

i can´t stand the looks of any volkswagen but millions of people like them.

The GT86 is a nice car. Although, correct me if I'm wrong, but the first cars produced seemed to have frame defects until 2013

So maybe you should avoid the 2012-2013 models

But it's a nice car overall, very smol, very nimble and forgiving

Since he's german he can't just install any header without risking the car being impounded. There is a tuning company that has a complete exhaust system that is TÜV compliant but I'm not sure how much € they charge for that
>>
so how about I add another 10k and get a m235i?
or would that still not be good enough for you buspassangers.
>>
it's trash but if you absolutely need a warrantied car go for it
also you'll be supporting the modern sports car market
you'll get btfo by pretty much everything on street or track though
>>
>>20817916
235i is leagues ahead. if you're on a tighter budget you may look into a lightly used 135i coupe
>>
>>20817919
budget is between 20-30k.
preferably 3-4yo and under 50k km, Iam not into cucked (used) cars.
also no americans/french cars or hatchbacks.
>>
>>20817547
If you can deal with the mediocre power band then it'll be a fun and affordable daily driver. Go test drive one. Keep in mind that there isn't a TÜV legal header to fix the power and unless maybe through a tuning company.
Rwd alternatives would be an MX5 or an 228i.
>>20817916
235i or 135i are definitely a step up imo to the GT86, however they sadly lack an lsd. Same story with the 228i
>>
>>20817921
For that money you can get something like this for example. Also available in manual
https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=276892256&utm_source=sharedAd&utm_medium=android
>>
>>20817934
yeah, that was my #1 choice actually.
the toyota was #2.
>>20817926
yeah missing lsd is sad but no problemo, I have driven a 235i and they are still fun even without one.
>>
>>20817926
some 235ims come with lsd, it's a dealer fitted option, i bet you can find sone with lsd.
Or just go to any BMW dealership and they'll fit one for around 2000€
>>
>>20817547
Wait for the next gen. It'll have no torque dip, more power and just be better all around.
>>
>>20818082
lets hope so, there are rumors about a 260hp version. That would seal the deal for me.

A bunch if F30 335i's are under 20k now im the states. That is the most car you can buy for the money at that price point.

>>
You live in the land of cheap used bimmers.
I've checked Germany's used car sites, you guys can get used 235i for 30k and 135i for 20 or less.
And you're looking at the Toyobaru? Really?
Fuck, at least get a 335i e92 or something.
>>
>>20818131
No German would want a Turkmobile.
>>
>>20818116
OP is in Germany. There are probably more BMW specialised shops in his town alone than there are in the whole of the US.
>>
>>20818131
op here
m235i was my #1 choice.
currently driving a 1'er and its ugly af so no 135 for me.
the toyota was just a cheaper alternative, I mean it would be 10k cheaper. Thats a lot of money.
>>
>>20818133
Judge a car by how it drives instead of what a bunch of faggots on a mongolian basket weaving forum say about it.
>>
>>20818116
>buying a slow tin can 2 seater that gets gapped by base civics and altimas.
>>
>>20818134
this is true. I live near munich in bavaria, so I have a shit ton of specialised bmw shops.
>>
>>20818139
If that were the case he would be driving a Miata
but >>20817814

If he cares about his image he shouldn't go BMW, unless he wants everyone to think "oh, a turk"
>>
>>20818145
that turk = bmw image is outdated in germany.
turks only drive benz, atleast here in munich.
>>
>>20818146
They drive both. Both Benz and BMW are Turk central.

For some reason they don't drive much Audi.
>>
>>20817547
Get a 2.2 20v Audi.
>>
>>20818137
The Toyobaru is basically a 120i coupe but lighter and with a diff.
It's a fun car, but makes no sense for the money when you live in the land of cheap bimmers.
>>20818145
Or a Z4, if he wanted a roadster.
If you lived in Japan, and you could get dirt-cheap JDM cars with relatively cheap maintanance, would you still get an American or German car?
>>
>>20818152
I would get something uncommon to the place where I live so I stand out more to boost my ego
In the US if you drive a Challenger no one is gonna look twice, but if you drive one in Germany you get looks and stares permanently. It's great.
>>
Why does /o/ shit on the 86 so much?
It handles well.
Gearing is great for spirited driving.
It doesn't weigh a lot (consider modern safety standards)
It has great aftermarket support
Part cost is low
Affordable even brand new.
Comes in a six speed manual.
Usuable as a daily, decent cargo space.
>>
>>20818152
>It's a fun car, but makes no sense for the money when you live in the land of cheap bimmers.
you might be right, the m235i was my #1 choice to begin with anyway.
>>
>>20818157
So, you only care about image. Ok.
I would just get what drives the best and is relatively easy to mantain.
>>20818167
It's a fun car anon, but if someone can have a 235i for around the same money, it's no longer a contest.
The Toyobaru makes sense in the US maybe, but in the EU where manual bimmers are dime a dozen, it really doesn't.
I can have a 330ci with an aftermarket diff for 8k euros in my expensive as fuck shithole, and that will be much faster and more fun than the Toyobaru, while being much more practical.
Meanwhile, cheapest used Toyobarus start at 20k.
>>

>>
>>20818182
I was speaking generally and bias towards the US market. It makes more sense to get a low end BMW in EU for sure. In the US there are so many of the toyobarus that it makes sense to get one here. Just don't understand the hate on /o/ towards it while IRL I haven't heard anyone talk shit about it. After graduating I'll probably pick one up on the used market.
>>
only real problem with the car is that its slow and tends to be owned by fuckfaces, otherwise its a pretty great car
>>
>>20818195
Dude just UEL headers, cheap exhaust and a tune and for less than $1500 you have a fast 86 with useable torque daily and shave like 1 second off of your 0-60 time.

>>20817547
But a used one. Make sure it’s in decent condition. Use the rest to buy drop in air filter, headers and a open flash tablet. Run E85 on the correct tune and you will be at 230 crank around 207 to the wheels and no torque dip. Make sure the headers are uel.

I own one. It's good. I do a lot of track days and was in my first time trial last weekend. I got my ass handed to me, but that's because I'm still a shit driver, not because of the car. Car 's fun. You can learn a lot with it. Nice, simple, no nonsense. Low power, light weight, FR, factory LSD, etc. Huge aftermarket if you're into that; I just try to get as much seat time as possible.

Whats a powerful car? My dads merc probably has over 300 and my volvos got 255whp but feels way faster than the merc. I've never driven a ft86 but if its anything like my old aw11 I bet its a lot of fun. Maybe youve just never driven a fun car and cant understand?
>>
>>20818643
>but feels way faster than the merc
and it isn't.
>>
>>20818667

Might be lol. Those mercs aren't too sprightly and it probably weighs a few hundred pounds more than my heavy boi and my volvos are FWD while my figures are wheel the merc rating is probably crank and eating all that RWD loss.
>>
>>20818803

Not here to talk shit but I mean if you're going to get a car, drive it. Then see what its like and do some research on what your goals are and costs to achieve. My manual swapped and modded volvo is quicker than modern cars (maybe not FAST to enthusiast standards) but to me the c52 is more enticing and exciting and the way the 4age feels is a bit special so I could be more than happy with a 30 year old toyota. Even that merc cant compare.
>>
>>20818084
Horsepower is fine but it needs more torque. 145 for a 2750 pound car is extremely average. A tiny turbo running a modest 8 psi would make it a very fun car and still reliable
>inb4 Toyota defense force
I have a 2500 pound car with 370hp/340tq. It’s fun but with modern 6+ speed transmissions, these levels of power aren’t necessary anymore

Tu es.
For around 14k you can get 2012-14 models in quite okay condition. You SHOULD add different wheels (225/40r18 is perfect) to not accidentally kill yourself because the 215/50r17 are ridicoulusly bad with the slightest amount of water on the road.
If you keep the RPM above 4500 it's accelerating with enough punch to feel fun and it's a blast in corners (with good wheels).
Adding a Turbo or Kompressor with TÜV will run you another 6.5k-7.5k EUR and increase the stock HP to 300 WHP and around 358nm torque. That's what I'm running currently and it's a totally different car. Not saying you need to do it, but if you're used to driving faster cars, the 86 might feel lacking.
Contact a seller on mobile.de, heuchle some Interesse and do a Probefahrt.

There's a weird trend with the e9x 335i and any car with the N54 in general.
All the boomers I know that have them, they swear theirs lasted 200k kms with no major issues. A certain family friend keeps saying his is a 'dog', which in my country means very reliable.
All the young people I know that have them, swear they're money pits and in the shop more than on the road. But they're usually rich kids so they don't care.
It just seems to me that those cars just need proper maintanance and the whole turbo procedure of letting the car warm up and cool down etc.

It handles WAY worse than a 140i or a GTI and basically everyone and their mother hates it because it’s just a souped up shitbox grocery getter. The whole layout and parts of the car can’t even handle the amount of hp let alone put it down, even if it’s not that much. A 140i and even some older 330i would straight up murder it in any regard. Buy a cheap ass Civic and mod it to hell and you have the same thing: a regular trashy shitbox that just has more power than it can handle put into it.
Don’t ever buy a Seat Cupra. It’s for Monster-snapback wearing idiots who don’t know shit about cars.

>fold down back seats allows for yuuuge amount of storage.
>reliable if maintained
>easy to work on and good way to learn how to wrench everything is easily accessible.
>rwd lsd in factory
>huge aftermarket you can really do anything you want to it. Keep it NA and fine tune the suspension or widebody and put a huge turbo.
Sure the Miata might be a sexy purchase but I don’t think it would make for a good daily with no storage and you can’t even recline the seats. I have slept in my BRZ before and while it wasn’t comfy it’s certainly doable. Also if you are 6” there is more headroom in the FT86. Overall just a really good daily.

how is it better than a mustang gt or camaro ss

e92/e82 335i n54 dkg with m3 lsd, bigger IC, Downpipes and tune
Economical, rides nicely, good for town driving and going fast....

Speaking from a German perspective, as that is what OP is
>much cheaper to buy
>cheaper insurance
>cheaper tax
>cheaper gas
>not perceived as a boomer when riding your car

In terms of daily driving
>better fuel economy 30mpg on 93
>more storage room
>better visibility by a large margin
>>
>>20820032
it's at least $10k less than either of those, about twice as fuel efficient, and has the same or better day-to-day usability. an ecoboost mustang would be more comparable to the 86
>>
>>20820053
I'm german and the only mustang driver I know personally is an american immigrant. Generally it's very exotic and mostly driven by the rare ameriboos (the kind that goes on american car meetups)

Dude on any wrecking yard you have parts for that car and they cost like next to nothing.

This.

You could build an entire e36 in your garage with 90% original parts for like 2500 euros.

Based on the dimensions of the BRZ, would it fit in a "compact" parking spot?
its length is actually about 10 inches shorter then a Cruze, and I could probably fit 2 of those in a long parking space
Also how about turning radius? I doubt its as good as a jeep but it is so damn short lengthwise, it looks like its got some good manuverability
I am considering buying one myself, nearest dealer is 100+ miles though and I cant find any decent used locally that haven't been fucking destroyed by their previous Mexican owners

>Based on the dimensions of the BRZ, would it fit in a "compact" parking spot?
yea. My WRX is a compact car, its literally in the same size class as a civic and I park in compact cars all the time.

Woah hold up there pal. 20k could get you a decent ecoboost.

A 220i with a 100 euro tune can get the same hp/torque numbers as this 228i.
So basically the Toyobaru is slower than even a base-model 2 series coupe.
Wonder how a 218 with the 3cyl engine would fare, those things can get up to 180hp with a tune.
>>
>>20817547
it's slow stock, yes. but it really has a great feel to it when driving. go test drive one
>>
>>20824843
btw i haven't driven other "small lightweight" cars such as S2000, miata, etc. so i can't compare. but i have to say i loved it as a daily (if for nothing else than the "feel" i know i know i sound like a fag) and regret selling it.

this. My miata's fun, but when I got behind the wheel of a 2019 challenger r/t my life changed forever
>>
>>20817547

I own one. Not a bad car if you understand what it is. The memes are real and it is slow. That said, i bought it to be a cheap daily and occasional track car. The fact that it is slow but handles as well as cars with bigger price tags is what makes it great.

Being so slow really forces you to clean up your technique to make up your losses. Its a good learners car.

Don't buy the 2012-2013 model years. Theres a recall and a few forum posts about melting factory injector o-rings. Despite these things, they're pretty reliable with regular mantenance, they're ok on fuel, and the fun factor is huge.

I do think the day of cheap sport cars will end this decade and this was the enthusiasts' last shot at demanding it sadly. Say what you will about the gt86 but the big manufacturers aren't going to make them like this anymore. The writings on the wall and the disaster that is about to be the 2020 supra should cement it; affordable new sports cars are dead and we killed them by not buying them.
>>
>>20818157
>In the US if you drive a Challenger no one is gonna look twice, but if you drive one in Germany you get looks and stares permanently. It's great.

Funny how that doesn't work the other way around, Ford budget cars are common over there, but large pickups (which have business purpose) and American sports cars are neigh unheard of

get a 4.55 or 4.67 final drive and it will feel fast. Couple that with a tune and boltons and it runs low 5's 0-60 while eliminatimg torque dip. The car doesnt have to be obnoxiously loud for those gains either.

Nothing to do with that. Seriously, just have a bit of fun every now and then.
Ein (Life-long) Bekannter von mir hat einen PEUGEOT 308 GTi Gekauft. Well I told him that his purchase is questionable and that he could've bought something else (if not better) with his 40.000€
He disagreed and we had a normal, civil talk. I then told him to test out his new car and have some fun. (Wirklich, Hand aufs Herz, I didn't provoke him in any way or form.) And asked him if he wants to do a quarter mile. Again, purely for fun, I mean he just bought a 40K sports car, why not? He then proceeded to make fun of me and my car, and I quote ''it's not even the GTR, It's just the GTT, I won't waste any Gas on your old pigfat car''. My reply was ''At least I didn't waste 40000€ on a front wheel drive car that has an identity crisis.'' And asked him again if he wanted to race. He avoided the question of course. Well, we haven't talked since then.
It's like....I don't know, buying a high end PC just to play minecraft, or a 2000€ headphone and only listening to 128kbps mp3's.
>>20819959
Well, ich habe immer angst wenn ich einen Audi Kombi sehe, die sind meistens Sleeper cars mit 600ps.
>>
>>20824730
By your logic I might as well get a Mustang then. Cheaper than both and faster.
