Jass Flush mounts. My buddy actually paid like $400 to buy a set from this kid who bought them new and was too stupid to install them. When my car got crashed into, he let me use them in my rebuild. Owed me some money+favors anyway. They come gloss black and i painted the “lid” section white. Super lightweight, id estimate 3 lbs each. But im also not using all the bent steel brackets that came with the kit. I just welded mine to some bent rod that ties to my tube frame. Never have issues with shaking at speed and the projection pattern is better than my popups were. Even so, I occasionally do miss the pop ups for their novelty and cleaner look when closed up.

interviewer: what's your biggest weakness?
me: Well Frankly, I spent the last 4 years of my life cooped up in my garage working on my miata and I haven’t seen the sun in months. Honestly, I had to cover my entire body with sunscreen before I went outside today and its partly cloudy. My entire purpose is to be the fastest thing on the road and I have never even kissed a girl and honestly, I’m sweating right now, feel my hands, ya feel that? That’s not just sweat, that’s cum, I’m jizzing from my pores because I spend 16 hours a day working on my miata and experience raw ecstasy the entire time. Honestly, I need to see a doctor but not just for that. I also have personality disorder and I engage in reddit arguments about drive trains once an hour just to feel that last little drop of bliss because my ego is imploding. Do you know how that feels? I have nothing left but disdain for this world. To be honest, if I don’t zoom incredibly fast I’m gonna implode…..

I've got 15x9s (turbocharged but still overkill). Don't get 15x9s, there are only two tires that fit: Kumho Ecstas and Toyo Proxes R1Rs. I have a set of each, I like the Kumhos better because although they have less grip they are way more predictable. The Proxes grip and grip and then you push too hard and they suddenly turn to butter and just slide with zero traction.

Koni yellows and eibach springs with a bigger, adjustable front sway bar and new tires is the minimum you should do if your miata is stock/ needs suspension refreshing. If youre doing your shocks and springs, you might as well make sure all the ball joints and tie rods are ok and if one side needs replaced, just do them both. I would recommend braided stainless lines, new pads and a flush with new fluid for the brakes and clutch at that point. Then, you should be set for a while. But these things need done if you buy an older miata with stock equipment that hasnt had these things serviced for a while.

If you just wanna know about the yellows, theyre the standard upgrade for miata shocks, and will increase the value of the car over the stock tubes. But, by themselves, you probably wont notice a difference. Follow the guidelines i laid out above and experience what the car is capable of.
>>
>>20662569
i'm pretty sure the suspension is stock but it handles fairly well. Definitely too much compression over bumps for my liking but turn in is nice and sharp. I've got new wheels/tires coming soon, already did brakes, and put a roll bar in. next on my list is the suspension, then eventually the clutch since I think I have a leaky RMS, but not soon

>>
>>20662569
about ball joints, if youre going to replace them I highly recommend the extended lower ball joints that flyin miata has. its difficult to get enough front camber for an "aggressive street/occasional track" alignment with the stock suspension geometry. Unfortunately miatas were tuned for understeer from the factory. ELBJ's adds 3 degrees of camber but it can be dialed back. I used to max out at about 1.2-1.5 degrees of camber up front, now I have my adjustment cams pretty much centered and its sitting at 2.5

Would I be retarded if I bought an RF as my only car? I'm kind of interested in the new one with the updated engine, but I would probably just get a used one for cheaper instead.

I don't really need anything bigger, but I might get pretty annoyed with driving a manual every day. It seems more fun than a shitbox sedan, though.

The usual test is rod knock gets worse with rpm right ? It didn't knock before and I doubt my first TB fuck up could have done permanent damage...right ?
>>
>>20664665
Use a stethoscope, or some conducting rod and listen by the bottom end. Lifter tick is only heard at start up. Goes away. Rod knock can get worse and it can level out.

Houston. Miserably hot and humid summers, heavy rainstorms every once in a while, mild winters and no ice. I'm not really super interested in having a convertible and I can't imagine putting the roof down all that often. I'm hoping the hardtop would be less hassle than a cloth top.
>>
>>20664749
I don't know why you all weak cucky zoomers never put your fucking tops down. I live in the midwest, my top goes down when it's 45 or above. And only because if it's colder it won't close or latch back up. Otherwise I would drive with it down below freezing.
And when I went to the west coast last summer, 7 out of 10 Miatas i saw had their tops up. It was like a beautiful 81f.
I get it, Houston gets hot. My back gets wet too. having the top down is worth it. If you don't plan on having it down, why get a convertible?
>>
>>20664766
Taking the hard top off is such a hassle. I've been missing out these past few days.
>>
>>20664734

>>
>>20664766
I don't really want a convertible, I don't need to get blasted with road noise and wind on my daily commute every day. I just like the Miata other than the soft top, so I figured I could get an RF and treat it like just a small coupe 90% of the time.
>>
>>20664665
You're not gonna bend a rod from fucking up the timing, and since the engine isn't an interference one you won't do anything to the valves either.
You should have cleaned out your lifters if you did a timing job though

I've looked all over the web, and found conflicting opinions on this

Are NA's good in the winter?
Half say just throw on winter tires and the other half says you'll probably die within 20 seconds.
Any people who personally drive them in snow/ice?

also is 4500 bucks generally a good price for one? I'm looking at one near me in that price point, has aftermarket rims, aluminum radiator, fugly-ass steering wheel, racing buckets and exhaust on it
I know most mod-happy cars don't add up to much more value, if any at all, but I've never really looked into the miat market
>>
>>20668712
>Are NAs good in the winter
They're good on ice and light snow, when the snow gets deep forget about it. Once stuff gets plowed out it's generally okay.
>4500
>Clapped out drift missile
Stay far away. $4500 is enough to buy a pretty clean, low-mileage one.
>>

i'm driving my nb all year long, winters are harsh and long in my country

>is it good for winter
it's a joy to drive, you'll be ripping skids on your daily commute and it will be the best moment of your day, but it has less grip when you're trying to move from a standstill. stop before red light on this one slight incline made of polished ice and you're a bit more fucked than dude in fwd shitbox who stopped in front of you. then again, you can solve it by not stopping on polished ice
>throw on winter tyres
you obviously have to do that with any car in the winter
>will you die
only if you're a retard. however, you won't die in a miata any harder than you'd die in any other car. hell, i feel much safer in a miata than i did in my previous fwd shitbox, at least miata communicates with you and you can clearly feel the road so you're more or less prepared for what happens next

also, rust. you won't die in 20 seconds if you're not a teenager smartphone girl, but your miata will disintegrate in 20 seconds because of road salt
>>
>>20668712
>seth from a.c.
Nice. Yea that price sounds about right if the body is ok. Good paint and no terrible rust. I daily drove my miata for the past 2 winters and yes, winter tires are necessary bc they are also rated to stay grippy in cold temps. Get a set of skinnier wheels you can beat on to use in the winter. Steelies or stock 7 spokes can be found for ~$150 on Craigslist. You wont die, but if its slushy out or theres like an inch on the road, be extra careful. If you start to slide dont panic and step on the gas clutch or brakes. Let off the throttle smoothly until you regain control. Miata is super fun in the snow get ready for rust tho.

My Miata sometimes under normal driving starts to hesitate. Feels like a fuel cut, or air leak.
So far I've replaced fuel pump, filter, injectors, wires, plugs. Check for vacuum leaks, cleaned throttle body, afm, icv, tps, o2.
Haven't looked at fuel pressure, or the regulator.
Runs super smooth until it doesn't. Happens sometimes once or twice a day, om sometimes not at all for 3 weeks.
What's left to check? Bp4w swapped 93 stock harness
>>
>>20645831
You know, the ND has grown on me since I first saw it. I hate most modern car designs, but there's something about it that looks and feels right all things considered.

I'm still gonna get an NA for my first Miata because it's probably one of the last cars with popup headlights I will ever find in good condition and I don't really feel like I need to go F A S T E, but maybe in some years when life stablizes for me I'll go out and find one.
>>
>>20679136

>do loctite fix

>>
>>20679382
I did do timing belt and front main seal first go around, I think the OEM seal I got was a dud because it began leaking after 5 miles. Didn't do water pump because it was done less than 20k miles ago (along with TB, but fuck it) by previous owner who was too retarded to torque the crank bolt, resulting in the loctite fix being necessary. At this point I could get timing belt off and do a water pump replacement in an hour because I've already done most of the work doing loctite fix twice.

After that I managed to drive it all of 5 fucking miles before the hose form the block to the heater core sprung a leak, and I had to walk 3 miles both ways to a hardware store to jury rig a makeshift hose to drive home to do the job in my condo parking lot (which doesn't allow people to work on their cars there because of nigger HOA so I had to do it early in the fucking morning).
