Nice thing about Hondas is almost everyone in these kinds of groups has had one and loves talking about them. The Z06 owner actually has his own Civic Type R at home.

Now I have questions.
I know the 03-07 Accord and 04-08 TSX are considered sister cars.
How close are they?
I know the TSX K24A2 drops right in with no mods, but what about wiring?
Is the suspension interchangeable between them? brakes?

Here’s a shit picture of my shitbox would have got a better one but it’s cold out and I wasn’t dressed for it
>>
>>20376788
Whenever the fog housing touches the radiator support behind it the fuse pops. I'm not even sure how a current is going through it since it just holds the bulb and nothing else. Actually it's a two wire pigtail on the housing so one of those has to be a ground wire.
>>
>>20376819
Is it possible that the hot and ground wires going to the bulb are switched?

If they are, the bulb will still light but the body of the bulb could be positively charged which could in turn, make the housing positively charged.

Just an idea
>>
>>20376830
It is an eBay product so that might be the case. I'll check it out after work.

I've been using flex tape on the housing and radiator support to keep the metal from touching each other. Kek
>>
>>20376794
Looks like I need to check for current at the distributor and likely replace it

>>
>>20376480
top kek my reading comprehension is shit today
>>
>>20376830
So I went to pull my bumper off to check the wires and sure enough the black ground wire of the harness was plugging into the white positive for the bulb. Took some prying to get the connectors out but I swapped them and they still light up. We'll see if they ground out again. Damn eBay shit.

I want something other than my 8th gen Civic LX as a DD. How are Preludes, 80-90s accords, and S2000s as DDs?
>>
>>20378198
>S2000
Very expensive, probably $15,000 minimum for a decent one

>Accord
80's ones are extremely rare, and carbed ones aren't worth it. 90's ones are the stuff of legends and run forever. Stock 90's Hondas are all slow with an auto.

>Prelude
Fifth generation (late 90's) are a good deal. 200 crank horsepower stock, and very comfy. It was Honda's halo car at the time. May consume oil but keep it lubricated and it'll run a long time.

Also consider RSX Type-S.

I love it and have driven it over 100,000 miles since getting it summer of 2015. Definitely a tank of a car. Can be worked on from top to bottom with only the most basic tools, and just about every part is cheap and easy to find. Just change the timing belt unless it has documentation of it being changed and you're good to go.

I'd avoid an automatic though unless the fluid has been changed every 30k. It's the weakest point. Manuals are very strong. I've never had any actual engine issues aside from a head gasket which was my fault. I regularly rev it to 7000 every other day.
>>
>>20378540
Just what I needed to hear, it was between this and a P71 but I figure the Honda would be more reliable long term. Thanks my man
>>
>>20378712
>but I figure the Honda would be more reliable long term.
It's really a toss-up. There's a reason those P71s are known for going over 500k miles. Honestly, I'd say the P71 is more reliable. The Civic is just more economical and efficient.
>>
>>20378757
Civic has more choices when you start throwing money into it. Comes down to comfy vs potential
>>
>>20378904
That's not to say the P71 doesn't have aftermarket support. There's manual transmission swap kits, endless engine parts, and a decent amount of suspension upgrades from P71-specific stuff (like a watts link from Metco) to suspension components interchangeable with SN95 and Fox-body Mustangs.

the wraith series are, but the original and low end are now.
The speccy I posted, which was a high performance desktop sized server and has xeon equivalent of i7-9xx, went completely the the other way. Cheap aluminum fins but the fans are smaller and high speed/noise but have ducts around everything they need to cool.

I had a hyper 212 evo on my last srs beans AMD, an fx 8320 drawing about 150W tdp with its over clock. Like a turbo engine, the CPU was fine, but the transmission didn't last forever, and the VRMs failed on the MB. Even though it was supposed to one of the ones capable of supporting the FX 97xx series with a TDP of 220W. Lel, fuck me. You should get a better sink if you don't have a wraith.

I think its really more about how it was cared for. But at 200k you're going to run into a lot of side things breaking that arent critical but are going to degrade how comfy it is.

But besides that, one that's been beat to shit for 80k miles vs one that's been babied for 120k miles? The problem is the beat to shit Si is really common in that age/price. I wouldn't buy one unless its got a really detailed service history and is completely clean, unmodified, etc

Same fag, as I need this car for transport, will not fixing a pushed in castor cause any damage, cause further problems, etc. To my vehicle? The mechanic I took it to for an alignment said it didn't need to get fixed right away, but as dear Dad always said, never just take a mechanics word for it.

Autos have a bad track record of failing in 03-07 accords. Such as slipping , losing 3rd gear, etc. So unless it was babied and maintained with drain and fills, i doubt it has much life left especially at 300k+, then again you never know. Kind of surprised it doesnt already have some slipping unless it was rebuilt.
>>
Kiafag here; been a while.
Car died Saturday; turned out I spun a bearing. So, I'm now back on the market for a new car; there's a shitty 2004 Suzuki Forenza for sale, in town, for $2k, and there's a beautiful high-mileage, white 2003 CM5 25 miles away for $2,300.
>>
>>20387332
I actually know a guy who had a Forenza and it gave him hell from day one. Not to mention Suzukis have such a tiny American presence that I bet parts would be a bitch to find.
>>
>>20387332
Let me tell you right now that this car has always been a piece of shit. It might not have left me stranded on the side of the road, until recently, but that did not mean it annoyed the fuck out of me.

First off, the headlights used retaining clips, to hold the bulbs in, and they were a bitch to figure out. Then there's the fucking power locks. I'm not sure if this was a feature or a malfunction, but when you press the button to lock all the doors, the driver door remains unlocked; you'll need to use your key to lock it! Not only that, something has been causing the locks to engage by themselves, whenever I close the driver door; I get out with my hand nowhere near the button, and the locks will engage between opening the door and closing the door.

The transmission would sometimes slip and I would need to shift into "Sport Mode" to manually upshift. Not only that, my upper radiator tank recently cracked, so I had to make sure the reservoir tank was filled to the brim, every week, to keep the engine from getting hot.

So, I'd say I'm glad I'm not going to have this car anymore.

>>20387341
There are mixed reviews, online. People either say it's a great car, which I assume are people who know little about cars, or the car is a nightmare. Apparently, you need to remove a motor mount and lift the engine in order to replace spark plugs.
>>
>>20387360
I'm not that worried about what car I'm going to get because I'm planning on getting a trucking job soon and just need a vehicle that can take me to the terminal.

Once I do have a CDL job, I'm planning on saving up for an S2000.
>>
Throttle surge is back on the MDX. Can't tell if it's the torque converter or the idle control.

Mom's ruined the sparkplugs thinking they needed cleaned as well.

It's doable but isn't ideal for highway driving, especially if you get an aftermarket exhaust well because my exhaust makes a constructive frequency at around 60mph so it's actually louder at 3k then 4k rpm (which is 72~ mph).

Whats the chassis codes for the various generations of accord?
I've seen a person driving a 3rd gen accord coupe, 5 speed manual. Absolutely beautiful
The 4th gen in your post are amazing cars too
>>
>>20391588
Third gen sedan is a CA5, the coupe is a CA6, 4th gen sedan is a CB7, 5th gen 4cyl sedan is a CD5, 6th gen sedan is a CG1 or CG6 if it's EX, 7th gen Accord sedan is a CM5 if 4cyl, CM6 if V6, then CM7 for a 4cyl coupe and CM8 for a V6 coupe.

Honda is weird with the chassis codes, sometimes the engine or trim can make the difference, because a CG6 can have a V6 or the 2.3 and be the same chassis code because EX.

>>
>>20396324
Yeah manual swaps aren't too hard from what I've heard. My buddy manual swapped my first 1993 Civic.

They can be pretty bad but you can only really tell from driving them. I had no issues when I had mine but later on when my roommate was driving it after I got my hatch the flex plate snapped and that required pulling the transmission out to fix. Then I sold it to my buddy and that transmission died later on, he replaced it then manual swapped it after that. The same year Corollas have much better autos from my experience owning a 1994, but they're quite a bit less fun to drive due to the different suspension. Double wishbone has a much better feel to me.

>>20396753
I think the Legend is much much cooler, but a same year Accord would definitely be better on gas and have more parts available.

auto tempest searches all car listings on the major sites. Its really neat desu
Car Gurus will check the KBB value, approximately, and then compare that value vs the list and say whether its a good deal or not. I like that because you can at least get a feel for what's a deal, and research further.

If you go to a dealer, negotiate the out the door price, not the sales price. Lookup what the car should have been traded in for. EX a car listed at 7k was probably traded in at $35-3800, and they need to make some money, so you could walk for $45-5000

>>20396324

I got a bunch of new suspension parts for my 1996 Accord, and I just realized that the rack and pinion boots don't have the little air nipple that attaches to the line that keeps the pressure between the boots even. How big of a deal is that? Should I go get new boots that have it?
>>
Hey lads, not sure whether anyone might know, but. I bought a Honda Accord Euro 2009 Lux auto. Last night was cleaning the engine with a mate, all good. Opened the trunk and there was a small pool of water below the spare. We looked for 15 minutes of where the leak might be coming from but have no idea.

We checked both vents from the sunroof, the lining of the boot was okay too. Opened the rear lights access from trunk that was okay too. Even weirder though, I put a white jacket in the boot before I realised there was a leak and it got brown little drip like stains on it. Really fucking stumped. No obvious marks from the boot where it might have come from too. At the moment I’ve just left the left drain plug off so it doesn’t accumulate anymore and cleaner the mould. Bought the car a few weeks back aus with 110kkm on the clock for a first car and am loving it. Just want to make sure she’s right.
>>
>>20401554
Don't worry about that, family. Honda Accords can naturally pick up water in the trunk pan.
>>
>>20401572
Yeah but rust
>>
>>20401587
The Accords have corrosion protection down there, I've had puddle of water sitting in there, but it never hurt it.

It does look concerning, though.

no, my particular NSX is stock.

Former Kiafag here.
I ended up getting a 1999 Chevrolet Corolla; I ended up not being able to afford to spend a lot and this Prizm was in the best condition for its price, compared to other cars. The owner had a mechanic for a friend and they took good care of the car, mechanically - the engine was rebuilt 93,000 miles ago. The only faults were some annoying little tidbits, such as the adjusters for all three mirrors are worn, some of the radio buttons didn't seem to work (I'm unable to reset the clock), and it has one bad tire. The performance, braking, and handling are fantastic for a 20-year-old car. Even the paint is pristine; either they kept it in a garage or they repainted the car.

That paint looks original, nice.

Inb4 that piece lasts annoyingly long.

Hope ppl are still here, im looking for a k20 but its more expensive than i had hoped for at least on the polish market and if you guys could tell me how much does it cost where you live it would be much appreciated, thanks.
>>
>>20404246
depends on the K-series engine in question.
>>
>>20404308
Im somewhat fresh to hondas, dont really know the difference between diffrent series. Im thinking about the one in this s2000 https://youtu.be/xg62C2Nx07I
>>
>>20404326
Well, here in the US market, there's a decent amount of choice
K20A3 - 160 HP, no traditional Vtec
K20A2 - 200 HP, traditional Vtec
K24A2 - 200 HP, traditional Vtec
K24A4 - 165 HP, no traditional Vtec
K24A8 - 165 HP, no traditional Vtec

The engines without vtec are cheaper to get ahold of, but then you don't have vtec.

There's a bunch of youtube series on budget K-swaps.

Thats helpful, was looking for a list like that, thanks mate.

Wanted to get a hold of the K24A2 by the looks of it but im also guessing its the most expensive.
>>
>>20404377
>K24A4
That's thing has so much torque and it runs on cheap gas, I love it,it's like a $650 dollar engine on eBay or cheaper if you go to the junkyard.
>>
>>20404403
mmm. but to convert it to Vtec, you not only need the cylinder head from one of the A2 engines, you also need new pistons.
>>
>>20404422
Ehh that's alot of work, if you need that exhaust lobe vtec, get the K24A2.
>>
>>20404422
Will check out how much would it cost to convert a4 to vtec rather than getting the a2. Also dont know if its that important if im planning on boosting it anyways. Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

What is needed to swap a K24A2 into a CM5 or CM7 Accord? I know the engine will bolt in without issue, but I mean computer/wiring-wise

The mileage is what has me hung up. Damn thing started right up, drove like new and it's obvious the old owner took care of it. But when you're talking about 250k miles, there's a million fuckin things that could go wrong before the next oil change cycle is up.
If only it had 100k less on the clock.

I wouldn't worry about the mileage on a Honda, my Accord has a little over 124,600 miles and the power steering doesn't work that well, and some things don't work, the car was clearly built on a Monday morning but it's still a great running car.

Also $2500 is way too much for an old CUV.

There was a recall on the p/s feed line.
I just replaced the p/s return lines an front cooler line on my cm6. Also replaced the orings for the feed line and return line so it no longer leaks or whines when its cold. Whats wrong with your steering?
>>
>>20405335
Id want to take care of those rust spots ASAP especially living in the rust belt. But yeah $2500 seems high, might need suspension work done too like ball joints or wheel bearings

If the previous owner of the red hatch was correct and the D series had 60k when I bought it, it has around 160k now. Still runs like a top and it gets a 7000 rev every day.

Though that guy was an idiot so it could be a lie.

My PS fluid is full, but the power steering doesn't work well, it whines when I turn the wheel on a cold engine, and sometimes It will be as stiff to turn as an old Civic, but I like it sometimes, it's super racecar compared to my uncle's CR2 where I drive with two fingers.

Any honda dealer should have it for like 1-2 bucks, easy to replace.

Check your suspension parts and drive belt if you have hard steering at times. Belt could be slipping or suspension parts could need replacement. Tie rods, ball joints, etc

You need to figure out what you want to do. "Nuclear engineer" is almost always synonymous with an employee at a reactor.
Also, how is deposition industry and fusion research supposed to be related? All of the deposition stuff I've done uses plasma/plasma reactor

Are you planning on doing theory or being an experimentalist? Because unless you are really good, you are going to have an extremely difficult time

Not sure what school you are going to, for what degree, what advisors you have, where you are at in your courses but it sounds to me like you're confused about what to do.

No bully, i graduated with a degree in theoretical physics and have family that work at reactors

I've got a 2014 Civic SI and I'm interested in doing some mods.
I'm not planning on doing anything crazy, just want to get some more power.
The first and most important thing seems to be the ECU.
What ECU should I get for light mods, maybe a turbo kit?
Everyone talks about Hondata, is it worth the price?
>>
>>20406042
Hondata is worth the price.
As to power mods, I would look into swapping to a K20Z3 cylinder head from a 2006-2011 Civic Si.
Here's a link with a list of the needed parts, part numbers and prices for them.

>>
>>20406089
Interesting.
Thanks anon.
>>
The 2.0L K20Z3 head flows better and is built to rev higher. Using that, and having it tuned via Hondata, you should be able to rev that K24 to 8,000 RPM< and make close to 240 HP before throwing a supercharger or turbo at it. Some N/A K24/K20 hybrids are making near 280 HP.

Would it be better to get a gsi integra, and then b18c swap it, or get a vtir prelude as a first car.
I imagine it would be easier finding a non-cheeched, granny-spec gsi here in Aus then it would be finding a good prelude

I'm going to to a 2nd tier school in my state, one step behind UVA and VTech (kicked in yo lol)
Transferring to Michigan state school system. Because I can get a part time job, or at least less than 60hrs a week and go to school.

The Tldr is fusors. Ion deposition and being competent in high frequency/high voltage/vacuum systems is very related to all the big projects like JET and ITER the stellerators. I think the future of fusion lies in smarter not harder reactors. JET and ITER and an exercise in brute force which I think will work But are dumb.
Stellerators are smarter.
Small and compact is smarter.

I have a 2 stage vacuum system (rotary vane + diffusion) 8" spherical chamber with like 8 ports, and a -30kv supply. So I like cutting bleeding edge experimental stuff. School I was at offers a dual degree physics (applied) plus EE (more on RD side to compliment). But it's just not working out time and money wise. Gonna try something different.

Vtecc kicked in

easier just to cross of what I got done already

Smashing atoms isn't really a super complicated science, and its really well documented. You can look up tables for the cross sections of whatever atom at whatever energy. Its mostly down to an engineering challenge and who's going to get there first.
A few grand of ebay stuff and some elbow grease can get you turning out a little bit of helium 4 from deuterium. Not a lot, and not efficiently, but enough to activate some metal foils.
JET and ITER will get breakeven fusion, but they really are just throwing a lot of time and money and energy at a problem. They're not really elegant solutions. There's a whole cadre of wacky and maybe workable smaller projects out there too.
Fusors are just the cheapest way to get a little fusion on a desktop. I think the returns are something 1000-10000 (iirc like 10-100nW) reactions per second out of ~500W of input power. Pretty pathetic.

JET/ITER are 100MW in for 10-100MW out for a few seconds?

NIF is glorified weapons research. Trying to figure out how to ignite the fusion part of a hydrogen bomb without the fission part.

Lockheed Martin had claimed to have figured out how to make everything really compact, like fit on the back of big rig, but revised estimates are showing its going to be about 10x bigger, but still a lot more efficient than JET/ITER.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_Martin_Compact_Fusion_Reactor

JET and ITER are symptomatic of "too big to fail" like James Webb telescope, which is a good too big to fail. Versus, we've always made tokomaks, we've already spent a lot of money on tokomaks, so lets see it through.

https://www.canadianbusiness.com/technology-news/crazy-genius/
Some guys in canada are trying something different, but I'm a lot more skeptical about it...But these are avenues which could've been explored before heading down the road of magnetic donuts for a lot less money than ITER is going to cost, but politics or something.
