Why is there no TVR appreciation thread
This is nowe british sports car thread

just look at it
>>20232389God i just love old jags
>>20232399certainly a sign of good taste>>20232352Which would be less shit to daily drive a TVR or a lotus?Whats the better choice for a madman like me wanting to daily one of them and loving it with a passion.
>>20232428are you the same guy who's dailying the gen 1 MR2?I reckon you were asking similiar questions month ago
I've owned five. Ask me anything, I still keep a foot in. There was a poster here a time ago who had a Chim, but he's the only other TVR owner I know of on /o/
>>20232464How do tuscans / sagaris deal with -10 celsius. What kind of cornering I should expect? Plan on tracking them so that is kind of important. Are they reliable? What are the biggest issues.Above everything are they fun?
Racing pedigree lads
Death rocketphallic cars are the shit
>>20232492>How do tuscans / sagaris deal with -10 celsius. Not sure, I had mine in a heated garage. I didn't baby them, but I did look after them and that meant very little winter driving. >What kind of cornering I should expect? Plan on tracking them so that is kind of important.Entirely depends on which one you get. They're all lairy. Even the Sagaris, which is easily the best handling, is still a handful. If you're after a track weapon look elsewhere - it's far better to think of them as an English Viper than a Caterham competitor. You certainly can race them, but it's an expensive hobby and for a road sport car it's a bit of a waste. That said, if you are into that there are numerous companies out there that will help you with race prep and give free advice. Which brings me onto the next point.>Are they reliable? For what you're getting, yes. You're looking at a car that weighs less than a MK4 Fiesta with over 400bhp at the crank. They're not as well built as more mainstream efforts, but mechanically they're usually sound and if something does go wrong it's generally quite cheap. Cerbs are the most expensive to keep running, but considerably less than an M3 of the same money. The community is *excellent*, to the point where people will offer to come and help for free. It's a very good club to be in. Try doing that with the Porsche lot. I have, and it didn't work.Chimaeras are reliable. So are Griffiths. Both can be easily repaired because of the sort of parts they use and neither will cost you much to run. Look into late models of either and avoid the 5.0 on the Chim, it's too cammy. 4.5 is the sweet spot. For Cerberas get a V8 (I had a Red Rose, which I sold two years ago) because whilst the Six is fast they're the same money, really. >Above everything are they fun?Oh, yes. Licence losing fun. 185 and climbing between Bournemouth and Southampton fun. Vague steering in the wet near Hawes fun.
>>20232592I'll expand on the fun since I probably bored you to death with talk of flat plane cranks and heated garages. It's like driving a go-kart when you're a kid for the first time. The kart is light, you're lighter, and you don't have the fear. The power comes on instantly and you can hear and feel it. You can smell it, too, and because you're sat low down it intensifies further. If you're like me and were addicted at that point in your life, driving a TVR is like that. Other people will not get it. Your girlfriend/wife will complain. Friends won't know what it is. Some might, but they'll have heard it's fatal/unreliable/stupid/glow in the dark/whatever. People who drive BMWs and Porsches will stand on their tiptoes and look up through their car branded orange sunglasses at you with disgust. None of it will matter, because you can spin the rears in 4th and you set car alarms off driving through town centres.
>british carsget some real cars like ALPINA
>>20232637oh that sounds amazing actually, but making the choice between lotus and tvr will be hard for me, both of them are completely different beasts.as for a fun fact I am actually daily driving my old m3 right now, and love british automotive industry to pieces it's so childlike and loveble, reminds me of Italian companies a bit.
>>20232328Is TVR the british version of the viper?
>>20232592I sadly don't have a heated garage but an underground one should do, the winter driving might be a problem but vey I am the guy trying to daily sports car>>20232713yes.
>>20232717There are more than a few people who have daily driven Caterhams. Apparently it’s like having a very practical motorbike.I wouldn’t daily drive a TVR but ultimately a Chim is just a Rover V8, a tough five speed and some fibreglass so it really can’t go that wrong.
>>20232328tfw no sagaris
>>20232805I love how this cars just look like penors, it has it's charm
ITT: People discuss cars they like without being retarded and mindlessly shitposting. This is a good thread pe/o/ple. I'd like to contribute with this exquisite specimen.
Secret shill thread for next weeks GT Sport update
I hate TVRs because of Gran Turismo 2

>>20236399What a mess.
>>20236399>tfw no Turbocharged 7.2 litre V8 Beaufighter
>>20236305she broke the dyno they were testing it on
>>20236451Do they have car that actually looks like a single car and not thrown together panels?
>>20236488This, I guess.
>>20234776Generally speaking, I6 engines are heavier than a comparable (in output) V8, so it's an upgrade. I know a pushrod V-ate might seem gross, but the Brits have a long heritage of having way too big American V8 engines in their lithe sportscars - and who's going to complain about 600+ reliable HP?
>>20236499Yeah, other than the BMW grill it ain't that bad. I knew that I heard the name before and came to this once again. Remember when this shit was in magazines when I was a kid and all of them complaining it wouldn't be coming to the US.
Brits always knew what they were doing
hello fellow britons

>>20232328Because all the owners are dead.
>>20237728goes to show the cars are worth a while doen't it?
Is nobody excited about the new TVR car that has been available for preorder for like 2 years now?
>>20237778The car is ugly as fuck but a Cosworth tuned Coyote is nice.
>>20237778We're waiting for them to finalize the production plans and possible racing variant/s, given the people behind the project we already know its gonna be good
>>20237678yea there is one project car that had a huge blower and was made manual
a classic innit lads?
>>20238615oi bond what o bong is it there?
>>20232328Because all the enthusiast died in car crashes, and the casual owners got fed up with electrical systems designed by drunks.
>>20238929but alfa is loved how come no honey for our bongmates
>>20236623These things achieved sexy classic status almost as soon as they stopped making them.
>>20239105Maybe they will get a bit cheaper next year, I will get one.
>>20239113They're cheap as fuck in the UK, you can get a good XK8 for sub 10k
>>20239105Look at that cool mouthYou can't look at that car and not see that cool mouth.
>>20239183yee, but driving with the wheel at the wrong side just feels weird, tried few cars but it didn't feel good.
>>20236413I think it has a spare tire in front wing gimmick
>>20236623I am seriously considering this. What could go wrong? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-XK8-4-0-V8-FSH-RECONDITIONED-GEARBOX-IMMACULATE-LONG-MOT-NEW-HEADLINING/143083251486?hash=item21506d271e:g:iWQAAOSwPGtcM5JY:rk:13:pf:0
>>20239431I've always liked 80's Bentleys.
Look at its shiny body.
>>20239502They are really cheap in the UK, but the running costs are just insane which put me off
>>20239518I wouldn't say they're cheap, they're cheap for what they are but they're still pretty expensive, cheapest ones go for about £7k.
>>20239523I'd say that is pennies for a car like that, but yes £7k is still a fair chunk of cash. When you consider that you could get a new Dacia Sandero, or a Bentley, it is a bit silly how cheap they are Running them is another matter entirely of course
>>20232328Because nobody here has a TVR and they're shitty cars. Sure they look cool and are fast, but only when they're running and not falling apart, which is rarely
As a burger, will I be able to import a Cerbera after 25 years, or is there a special ban on them? About how much would I be paying for a V8 model? Bumping with God's own weekend car.
>>20239837they are banned because just dont crash m8
>>20236441damn i read that picture as "ascari_faggot_concept.jpg". enough 4chan for today.
>>20237678I believe Tony's car from Paragon design UK. It's very famous at the Jaguar forums. I believe he also put in a Twin Screw Supercharger in place of the Eaton M112. Btw, this is my car.
>>20236536always, always last in GT4. Absolutely misplaced in its group
I wish I had oldschool british roadster to fool around on murrican roads.
>>20242783Could you drive an austin healey under a huge truck?
>>20239995Kind of ironic for the land of "just keep it pointed in a safe direction".
I usually hate this thing in Grid but had a pretty inspired night with it tonight.
>>20239477>>20239477Go for an XKR instead. For a coupleThousand more you get a more robust transmission and engine and more powaaaaahhh. If you can afford a car from 2003 -2006 (4.2L V8) model years you will have solid and reliable car. If you opt for ‘96 - ‘02 make sure of the following: Timing chain tensioners have been replaced with the metal 3rd gen tensioners. Water pump has been replaced with one with a metal impeller. If Na: Thermostat housing tower has been upgraded to metal instead of plastic. On all models: look for rust in rear wheel arches, specially where it snows; Does the car look like it has been lowered in the front but not the rear? It needs new shock mounts. You can see they have degraded right from the engine bay. They’re $145 at Welsh-ent for urethane upgrades. While you’re at it, look to Powerflex for polyurethane bushing upgrades. Budget for a transmission fluid change at about 60,000 miles (manual says sealed for life, don’t fall for that crap). Make sure cooling system hoses are relatively new. If they’re not, budget for new hoses. There are a set of heater hoses, infamously known as the octopus and the valley hoses. They are a pain to remove because of the tight area. You should also do a supercharger fluid change if it is an XKR. It is easy to DIY and it is cheap.
