While Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is well-liked by voters in her home district in New York City, the congresswoman's constituents largely don't identify with "democratic socialism" — a label Ocasio-Cortez uses to describe her progressive politics.

Voters in New York's 14th congressional district, located in the Bronx and Queens, also broke from Ocasio-Cortez on her forceful stand against Amazon's proposed opening of a new headquarters in Queens, according to a Siena College poll published Wednesday.

57% of her constituents said Amazon's reversal was bad for New York, and 58% were in favor of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's attempts to cut a new deal with the e-commerce giant.

While Ocasio-Cortez considers herself a democratic socialist, just a quarter of her constituents identity with that label. 70% of voters say they use other labels to describe their political beliefs.

What's the difference between democratic socialism and social-democracy ?
Demsoc is socialism, but with Democratic voting, socdem is a democracy with heavily socialized policy
No it isn't and you pulled those definitions out of your ass.
Who the fuck in the Bronx wanted Amazon? And Queens is half yuppie country who gives a fuck about them

T. Brooklyn
There is no one definition so of course there is confusion.

In the context that Bernie and AOC use it, "democratic socialism" is basically the rejection of market fundamentalist economics. In brief it is the economics that is common in the rest of the western countries but is yet to take hold in the US.
The basic idea is, capitalism with a market economy, but not with autistic emphasis on trying to achieve everything within this paradigm of market competition.
Sometimes the government can actually offer a cheaper alternative.
Sometimes you need heavy market regulations.
Sometimes you need nonprofit organizations to handle some aspects of your economy.
You don't have to have forprofit corporations handling 100% of your life all dictated by how much profit they can make out of you.
They're all about making other people pay for your shit.
>In brief it is the economics that is common in the rest of the western countries
But autistic emphasis on trying to achieve everything within this paradigm of market competition is at the core of the EU project.

Two thirds of AOC’s constituents live in Queens, so she better be representing them properly.
Good thing Hipsters and Yuppies aren't actual people
To some extent you are right and it is one of the reasons why Europeans are not very pleased with the EU.
But the EU does not entirely control the national economies. Most countries still have many markets that they prefer to leave to public/state enterprises or some other kind of mechanism that isn't entirely market based.
So, in summary, AOC is NOT representing her constituents. Nice Job, Alex!
