Cut the ride short after 22 miles, I couldn't stand the constant wind. Overnight tornadoes hit the state capital real hard.

I spooked a deer and it ran in front of me but not close enough to make a difference. I saved a tiny turtle. I rang my bell at a few thicc housewife honeys.

With the high winds you learn to avoid the long stretches of straight road and gravitate to the circular loopish roads.

comfy ride with comfy wife, just 10k through semi abandoned rural roads in a warm and sunny autumn. behind all those bushes there's the ruins of a very old rural house, from colonial times.

she can't ride too much, her knees are busted, but she is so happy when we can share a bit of pedalling.

shitty supermarket bike, though...

yeah, appart from her knees, the rest is in mint condition for a 46 years old, 2 children model. wouldn't trade her for a newer one. the temptation to testride some more updated carbon roadies is always there, though.

here's a pic from last night ride. temp dropped to 1°C, first real cold of the year.

Why does cycling suck so much in terms of fitness?

I have to spend 3-4 hours of cycling to have the same equivalent physical exertion as 1 hour of running.
>>
>>1336476
Cycle faster?
Get a power meter?
Run slower?
Cmon dude
>>
>>1336477

It just takes up way too much time.
>>
>>1336476
it isnt if you keep going as fast as you can for the whole ride.
>>
>>1336480
are you this retarded?
Look how the cyclist of the hour record fall off their bikes at the end. They burn more calories in one hour than you in a whole week.
>>
>>1336476
like the other anon said just fucking go faster. You can completely destroy yourself in 1h of training. Do something like 10 min warm up, 20 min FTP, 5 min cooldown, 20 min FTP, 5 min cooldown. Not only will this greatly improve your fitness it will also hurt like crazy. If you don't have a powermeter use a heartrate monitor and keep your heartrate at 180 or whatever your FTHR is.

Going slow as fuck for 4 hours complaining that cycling isn't hard enough fucking hell this is so retarded it hurts.

The forecast for our 300 yesterday looked great, 20C light wind with a tailwind for the long north leg, chance of showers. But the weather ended up being quite shitty. 30+ km/h headwind for the north leg. Got rained on just before the turn, and the temperature never recovered after that staying between 6 and 10C rest of the day. Got rained on 2 more times. The brutal north wind vanished by time we turned south. But we had a decent push for much of the east leg, and the last 27 km south.

The guy I was riding with tends to fade toward the end of the rides lately so I pulled the entire day, and he did so the hills near the end were very slow. Going into the north wind we were only averaging about 18 km/h. Since I was pulling the whole way I used my HR monitor to maintain an even effort. On this 53 km leg I only stopped pedaling 3 times, 2 of them were for rain gear, and 1 was for the other guy to take a jacket off. Just intermittent cadence dips and I stood to stretch the legs.

No. I tried to go on the west side highway but a cop stopped me and made me walk the greenway. I'm not sure what he would have done if I had ignored him. It's not illegal to ride on the west side highway and they don't stop you during weekday fleet week in my experience, but I don't need an arrest record or 47 bullets in my back just to push a point with an armed high school bully with a room temperature IQ.

errah motivator, those are decent numbers except your heart rate seems a little high for what should be about a 6 or 7 intensity workout. Slow down on those stims or you'll have heart problems in the future. Bang is crazy shit now, I slam one before work (bike messenger now, I hung up my uniform a long time ago) and it does make me feel fucking invincible. Anyways, keep it up, stay motivated. Sorry for the blog, tl;dr knee's fucked can't ride

Couple of weeks ago I was on holiday and clocked up more than 1000 TSS in 4 days...

Right knee hurt a bit on the bike when I got back, but immediately got a cold and took some time off. Got back on and it hadn't improved, in fact it was getting worse.

Seen a physio a couple of times now, he's pinned it down as a patellofemoral problem, so I need to take it easy, maybe ride a couple of times a week for now (while doing stretches and exercises and things).

Didn't take long for it to flare up this morning riding into work, even taking it super gently. Had to get a lift home.

This is so frustrating, but all I can do is rest. This time last year I was off the bike due to injury as well.

>>1337707
I've been wondering for a while, how do you wire a rear dyno light without having horrible exposed cables everywhere?
>>
>>1337907
Internal frame routing and a brazed tube on the rear of the seattube that you mount the light to. I imagine that the expense is not trivial. And if you want to make it look really clean, a fork with internal routing for the hub cable is needed, too.
>>
Oh and I hope your knee gets better soon. My boss is going through similar problems and it looks like hell. He tried to tough it out and was rewarded with a partially torn ACL. My weekend was rekt by mysterious back spasms.

Sunday was sunny and perfect temperature so i figured i would go for a little ride. Nothing serious, a 25km ride on pic related with regular clothes, no water and on the nearest green trail.

On my way back home some dude with cycling kit and road bike passes me, since he's not going very fast I decide to follow him (a few meters behind, I don't want to suck his wheel). Since it's a sunny sunday afternoon there is a fair amount of people walking, jogging, doing skateboard or rollers on the green trail and each time someone is blocking the way that dude in front of me just scream "BEHIIINND" (although in french so "DERRIÈÈRRE") in a weird exagerated deep voice. Some times he also just scream like animals : dogs, cows or horses. He also does it in every tunnel even though the visibility is fine and even though he has a bell (he used it once, not sure why he didn't screamed that time).

Is this what autism looks like /n/ ?

Anyway that was fun.
>>
>>1337916
This kind of person represents about 1% of roadies but represents about 99% of what non-cyclists think of as roadies because the ones who aren't doing that, nobody notices. Unfortunately they also seem to think they speak on behalf of all roadies.

Anyway on really crowded days I sometimes follow behind people like that because they're assholes but they do clear the way effectively.
>>
>>1337907
Lately if I get patella pain its an indication my saddle is too far forward or possibly a bit too high. I kept sliding forward on my brooks so I kept moving it forward, but what I need to do was change the angle and leave the setback where it was.

Installing the lights took far too long, mostly tinkering with cable routing and dealing with an uncrimpable crimp connector (needed to use a bench vise to get enough force to crush it). I didn't think to check if the hub came with a tail light wire, so I had to go to a guy I know who has a bunch of them. The tail light has a feature where you just push the wires in and flick a lever to automatically strip and lock them, but it didn't work. So I had to go out and get some crimp on wire terminals.

Now I just need to wait until it gets dark so I can go adjust the light. It got really hot today so it should be a nice ride.

>>
>>1338836
It is the "on both sides" mentality that makes you a house negro. You think they were nice to you because you "gave them the lane"? Really? Aurilla Lawrence should have been nicer to the cagers? Heather Lough should have just thanked more cab drivers for yielding and she would have been fine? Was Carlos Vasquez's mistake that he wasn't sincere enough in his subservient smiles at cagerist extremists? Would Dan Hanegby have lived if he had just been more courteous?

Maybe all we need to do to prevent cyclist fatalities is more "respect and courtesy" instead of all this divisiveness.

The weather is hot in the evening and nice in the morning/night and when it rains the streets flood. The cycling paths are good enough for a third world country and everything is close by (stores, shopping malls, schools, services etc.)since it is pretty dense. There is a lot of room for improvement, especially in the north and west zones of the city where they have a lower income than the south zone/Barra neighborhoods. Outside of that the scenery is beautiful and there are multiple nice places to explore. from urban and road cycling to MB trails and off road experiences I would give the city a solid 6-7/10 for the overall experience.

Villa María, Córdoba, Argentina. the city is really nice, not too big, about 90000 people, situated in the exact middle of the country. for it's size has a lot of cultural life and people here is proud of keeping the city clean and beautiful, building parks and bikepaths.
but is still like a small town in a lot of ways, and i like that. you can ride a couple of km in any direction and you are already in the country. the only problem for me is that there's almost nothing around, just an eternal cultivated flatland with rural roads crossed by a small river with some forests on the coasts.

ouuuu, i love Rio! i'ts so beautiful and lively. i've worked there for three months in '94 and it was an amazing experience. been there many times later, but the las tone, in 2003 i think, i've found it a lot more dirty and violent than before. the same happened to my birth place, Buenos Aires, and i just flee from there. it seems like all Latam capitals are degrading rapidely.

always nice to see another macaco here, i used to watch that one youtube guy who did the Rio's cycling paths timelapses and it was comfy; you ride a road bike around the city? i remember seeing a Caloi Strada being featured in the GCN show and getting a super nice, the backdrop was the same as your photo.

as for me, i'd love to take a tour to Rio one day(or the state border at least) from my boring ass countryside place with mildly interesting cities (pic related it's Rafard, the tiniest medium city ever, it got a bil ole industrial chimney right at the heart of the city spelling smoke 24/7, it provides energy to the entire municipality and some, it's also a sugarcane to ethanol refinery i guess and full of crackheads around it)

The light isn't as bright as I'd like, but will get the job done out on the roads at night. It does throw light a long distance in front of you.

The beam is not ideal for twisty MUP riding, so I'd supplement it with a helmet light. Even with my 1000 lumen light, it was generally good to have a helmet light too.. The light puts almost all the light on the ground, so when you approach a person walking it doesn't really illuminate them at all, though that was before I made another adjustment and I may have had the light too low. Also the beam isn't wide enough up close for cornering, which is common to the reflector style used on most road dynamo lights.

>why your photos all two dimensional, i like it
Not the anon who took the photos but with a hobby in photography, I have a guess as to why and will tap into my autism to explain why. The reason? Lack of depth of field caused by a pinhole aperture, fast shutter speed, and infinite or very very far focal length. Not necessarily bad, just a compositional taste. I like that anons photos too, a refreshing sight against the current trend of bokeh which does everything exactly the opposite in regards to aperture, shutter speed, and focal length
>>
>>1339308
I'd also like to add, it's refreshing because landscape photography begs for clarity, not bokeh
>>

Isn't that how all shitty phone cameras are by default
>>
>>1339497
Depends on the phone, im not shooting on a phone :-)
>>
>>1339168
Yes, countryside São Paulo, i'm near Campinas

i just checked and it's a compact digital camera, i thought they were all but dead at this point, cool to know they're around still

>>1339308
yeah, i thought exposition might have something to do; the brighter and more saturated a photo is the more i seems to lack depth. also he shoots on specific situations (character at center of screen with a straight horizontal background at back)
>>
>>1339497
>>1339513
True it depends on the phone but phones these days are designed with large apertures because bokeh. Their shutter speed, focal length, and ISO capabilities have a very decent range these days. It'll be a matter of time before phones get good variable aperture range and optical zoom capabilities.

Dedicated cameras, even compact point and shoots, usually have a greater range in the 'composition triangle' than phone cameras even if a budget camera can have lower megapixel count. Resolution is almost a useless factor that many people put heavy weight on thanks to number marketing. Think horsepower for cars, what's more important is suspension and handling but those numbers are harder to quantify in the marketing standpoint. I had a budget point and shoot camera from 10+ years ago that can still out perform some of the best phone cameras today.

Anyways, when you pit a modern day point and shoot against a phone camera, the phone camera gets destroyed. Of course that all boils down to the eye of the photographer.
>>
>>1339572
>the brighter and more saturated a photo is the more i seems to lack depth
That's the thing, when left to Auto setting, the camera will use a pinhole aperture, low ISO, and high shutter speed in bright conditions. You can force a camera to use a wider aperture, higher ISO, or slow shutter speed with manual settings or a ND filter which will change color and focus greatly. Now his composition isn't that interesting, it's at the very least eye catching. You don't want to center the subject unless it's like a professional portrait as it draws too much attention to the center of the photo while giving people the natural tendency to ignore the rest of the photo, which I think is a shame in such a beautiful sight. Rule of thirds is super basic but gives a picture a more interesting, rather, captivating perspective

>Now his composition isn't that interesting,
i disagree. i don't know if is something that the photographer was looking for, but to me pics are really interesting from an aesthetical point of view.
they are not landscape pics, the actual subject of the photo are the characters in the composition, the people, and not the skyline or the neighborhood, that are acting just as visual (and social) backgrounds.
they look completely solid, frozen on time but really dynamic at the same time. the lines interacting with the directin and speed of the subjects are really fun to watch.
the three pics are composed equally, with a heavy visual weigth in the bottom while letting a lot os light sky at the top, a very stable and equilibrated.

i'd say a nice photographic study. i usually take pictures just for the geometric lines that you can frame in the pic.
but i'm also a bit high so what do i know, should move to /p/

A rice planter. The shoots are grown in a greenhouse and packed fairly densely. When they're ready for the bad world outside they are loaded into a planter whicj splashes through the glaur (on goofy wheels that I'll probaly next see on a traiathlon bike) spacing individual shoots evenly in neat rows. I think I got my saddle in the perfect position. Did a 400 and my legs aren't even stiff. But my neck was giving me grief, I need to get that sorted before the 600 in 2 weeks.

At 19 hours moving / 25 hours elapsed, moving time was nearly 2 hours longer than my next slowest one and 3 hours longer overall. Idle time partly due to mechanicals and slow meal stops, then several longer breaks towards the end. The real killer was a brutal wind the last 50 km from 1 am onwards. We kept it slow the last 50 so one guy who was fading could finish as he's planning to do PBP. It was easier to crawl back than to have to do another 400 next week. I stopped eating a few hours before the finish and felt quite sluggish at the end.

Dynamo light worked great, I think it was dimmer earlier in the week because I didn't have the connector locked. Still not very bright but adequate in the absence of any other light. When riding in a group all the dynamo lights overlap nicely creating a pretty decent combined light. The stand light feature for when you aren't moving is super dim and near useless.
>>
>>1341016
In the last stretch I felt partially rejuvenated after taking a road side dump at 2:30 am. Since I knew the guy moving slow would take forever to get up the next steep hill, I had them continue ahead. I managed to catch them before the top, which I shouldn't have done because they stopped for 10 minutes and I started to freeze having got a bit sweaty during the climb.

Damn, I didn't know. Even with heart rate is not accurate measurement. Just reading about it right now.
>An evaluation of seven devices in a diverse group of 60 volunteers showed that six of the devices measured heart rate with an error rate of less than 5 percent. The team evaluated the Apple Watch, Basis Peak, Fitbit Surge, Microsoft Band, Mio Alpha 2, PulseOn and the Samsung Gear S2. Some devices were more accurate than others, and factors such as skin color and body mass index affected the measurements.
>In contrast, none of the seven devices measured energy expenditure accurately, the study found. Even the most accurate device was off by an average of 27 percent. And the least accurate was off by 93 percent

I once rode in thick fog at night just outside of town. Truly claustrophobic. With my lights off I could see nothing in any direction, not even myself, a complete void. With the lights on I was in a glowing orb with tons of glare.

Yell "get back" or something as loud as you can.

If that doesn't work spray them with your bidon and if all else fails start hauling ass.

I wonder if the planner of this neighborhood deliberately made it limp dick shaped. Today I was riding up and down these narrow corridors between houses. Not as wide as an alley, covered in grass with trees overhanging from the adjacent yards. Would make for some good fat biking in the winter. Normally they would be boggy this time of year, but it has been abnormally dry.

that looks and sounds great. i switched road bikes to mtb because roads around where i live are in shitty conditions, traffic is superdangerous and landscape is pretty boring, so an mtb lets me go to more deserted roads. i hate traffic a lot, and mtb is really what i like best, but i miss a lot the sensation of calmness that the cadence of the road gave me.

first short ride after the flu, a few km with perro up the river. autumn settled down at last, temps got lower but perro loves chilly water. as soon as you get out of town, you start to find these espinillos, with 10cm hard and sharp thorns, some of them crossing over the path dangerously close to your eyes.

He's in the military, GNC makes a fucking killing from government dogs, I used to be one and I bought their sales bullshit their shit too. Supplement use is rampant across militaryfags. Everyone thinks they need some kind of performance enhancer because they want results NOW without earning it so their diet is shit, they smoke a carton of smokes and a log of dip a day, while chasing their whiskey with beer while playing xbox in the barracks. I don't blame them though, military life sucks balls in a lot of ways.

I don't smoke, drink, eat healthy (healthier at least), and only take a multivitamin now but I spend all fucking day biking for a living. I could absolutely fuck my old self upside down because of my significantly cleaner lifestyle and back then I was a 299/300 PFT, 300/300 CFT when I got out.

Rode the last of the grass alleys today. Some are really nice like this one. The nice ones are usually ones that pedestrians use as a shortcut. Some the grass is very deep hiding all kinds of stuff you don't want to ride over. There are storm drains back there too, most are roughly level with the surrounding ground but the occasional on is in its own 1.5 foot deep hole.

There's nothing I even want to play. i spent 10 years of my life min/maxining in MMOs. Pushing for server firsts, grinding for the best gear and what not. Now I can't do that due to work and the mindset is still stuck so even if I try and pick up a SP game I have to know I'm optimal at all times and since it's just SP that makes it not fun.

I used to play LoL but that game causes me to much anger issues.

patch kits are cheap and relatively straight forward to use. more or less something you're expected to know if you're going to be a bike person. they take up no space themselves but a pump is a little harder to carry. worth it, though.

almost winter. as it gets colder you find less and less people wandering at night in the river parks. ideal for some comfy weed'n music'n strolling.

also ideal for some more "riskier" attempts to navigate the only slopes, stairs, drops or gaps you can find in this terribly flat city. is great not having to care about people circulating or exposure to ridicule on every fail and fall.

What's your plan's for a Father's day ride /drt/?

Going to do a metric tomorrow (~65mi) down the coast. Will stop at the turn around point and find some food then head back.

Should be pretty fun.

Both Komoot and Strava have me taking a route to the coastal road I've never taken but considering how dangerous the road I ride to get there now is maybe it'll be a lot better.

I'm thinking I'll get up at 0700, have a smoothie drink some pre-ride around 0730 then be out the door by 0800.

That has me home around noonish depending on how fast I go. I'll take a few gels and energy waffles, more than I need but would rather not have some unforseen bonk come up and have to stop.

None, I had my long aimless weekend ride today because it's raining tomorrow. Bit of a waste because I did my lifting in the morning, had to run some errands, and didn't get started until 2 PM. So I just rode around the city for a bit then over the bridge, up to Rockland County, and back to the city.

Lots of dead stuff. The usual dead rats and pigeons in the city, then dead birds and flattened chipmunks along Hudson Drive. A big dead deer covered in about a million hungry flies on 9W, looked almost peaceful with its head rested on its chest. Then a big grey cat with its entrails everywhere also on 9W, that one smelled nice. Cagers are so violent, day of the coral reef cannot come soon enough.
