I'm back.And it's about trains.
Since last we met, I've moved from here...
>>1327749...to roughly here. Not going to give too much away.
I have been constantly tweaking and improving bits of track layout here and there, whilst also doing timed runs of train services.
And slowly but surely, the working timetable is beginning to take shape.
For those of you that missed my earlier threads: I've embarked on a long-term project to create a working virtual model of British Railways using OpenTTD.I do have better things to do with my time, but this is how I avoid doing them.
Bumping with Hambleton Junction.
>>1327759Do the roads also conform to the real thing?
>>1327857Not really, no. There are a few bus routes running, as well as the National Express long-distance motor-coaches, but that's all. Maybe I'll improve the roads later on, with motorways and such.
>>1328093Forgot to include a picture. Here's Bolton. Hope you weren't expecting Ipswich.
>>1328094>Here's Bolton. Hope you weren't expecting Ipswich.subtle kek
>>1328159Here's another: they should really pick some big stadium in East Anglia and re-name it the "Palin-Drome".
>hitch a ride with a bunch of strangers>do some small talk>driver and one of the other passengers happen to have lived in roughly the same area >they both had to drive through the same small town on the regular >pic related, Affeln, ~1000 inhabitants, Sauerland, Germany >they both agreed it was a creepy place, gave them shivers and a bad mood every time they went through >people staring and looking really weird>as if telling them to just go away I don't know anything more specific than this, but it sounded like the Innsmouth Look to me. Intriguing that they both agreed that the place was creepy, even though they didn't know each other before that day and definitely hadn't been there together.
Whoops, I'm fucking retarded and got my tabs mixed up. Sorry for the inconvenience
>>1328189I'm intrigued now. This sounds like the kind of town where people disappear and then reappear two weeks later with no face and eyes on the back of their feet.
>>1328187Terrible, terrible joke. Still kek'd tho.
>>1328767Hey, good to see you're back, openttd uk guy!Any chance of a peek at clapham junction and waterloo? I'm curious to see if you're including every platform considering the geographic and space constraints of the tile based gameplay
>>1328971Yeah no fuck that. Eight platforms is plenty.
You cute. No homo though.
>>1327745basedshow Birmingham pls
>>1327756wait a minute, you're manually making and adjusting the timetables?
>>1327745>>1327749>>1327750>>1327751>>1327755>>1327756>>1327759>>1327849>>1328094>>1328093>>1328187>>1328681>>1328767>>1329283>>1329500>>1330006Just end yourself.
wtf happened to this thread? when did /n/ get so cancerous
>>1330262Australia woke up.
>>1330262/pol/ linked us after the AoC thing. it's turning into a fast board, the days of a single thread lasting for a year or more are over, and every thread will eventually devolve into screeching about niggers and trannies
>>1330262/pol/niggers. Thinking about jumping ship to 1chan.
Based. Keep it up OP.
>>1327745Ahhhh I missed you senpai glad you're back
>>1331501>>1331257Sorry it took so long.Wrong type of escaped elephants on the line at Hampton Wick.
>>1327745what game is this?
>>1334364Learn to read filenames
>>1327756>>1330067Seconding that question. I see you're working with a patch to include the time of day, but you'll still have to manage building the correct distances and travel times with OpenTTDs tile grid system. And a full-day timetable would also require the trains to be stabled somewhere.
>>1334364Look at the screenshot properly you dunce.
>>1327759AutismBut I like that
>>1330067>>1334383I will admit that the geography is slightly fudged in places. But depots and stabling sidings and suchlike have been included.
>>1334693how do you get that mix between the two housing types, the japanese and normal I mean
>>1335576By downloading so many NewGRFs that I can't even remember what's in the mix any more.>>1329989Not sure which bit of Birmingham you want, so here's Dudley.
this board doesn't deserve you, rail-chanstay strong and keep on choochin'
>>1335663Do you have the Atherton and Leigh area, with the slight remains of a derelict line / station on the center east side of Leigh?
based rail chan is back
>>1335883Not really. Disused, isolated little bits of track I've generally not bothered with. The key distinction being *isolated*.
>>1336894Oh boy oh boy, I sure do love toast. And also track re-alignment.And girls. But the more I think about them, the deeper I descend into depression. Let's not talk about that.
>>1327745I cannot express how much i love this adequately.
>>1342038Oh, do try. Go on.
>>1342048DLR is monorail?
>>1342065In my simulation, London Underground, Galsgow Metro and Tyne & Wear Metro are monorail. DLR and High Speed 1 are maglev.Although, thinking of replacing sub-surface Underground lines (District, Metropolitan etc) with ordinary tracks, so as to enable accurate replication of LU/BR interfaces like Point Pleasant Junction. Thoughts?
>>1342067Give us a peek at Glasgow.
>>1342069Aye, nae bother jimmy.
>>1342070I have no idea how terrain editing in OpenTTD works, were you not able to edit the rivers so that Govan and Renfrew weren't north of the Clyde?
>>1342073Terrain editing is a piece of piss, me learning the exact course of every river in Britain is a little bit more difficult. As I've said before, a lot of the geography is fudged and the whole project (especially in the vicinity of large cities) should be regarded as a work-in-progress.
>>1342074Have you got round to doing the West Highland Line?
>>1342070I've just recently gotten into openttd and I'm surprised it isn't discussed more outside of transit discussion circles. Also does /n/ have a server up?
>>1342248Tbh I'm more of a Simutrans guy myself, but that's an even smaller community. I don't quite like the OpenTTD system of being able to transport cargo anywhere, whereas in Simutrans pax and goods have a set destination you have to deliver them to.Alo pak128.Britain is life.
>>1342248There used to be a thread on /vr/ but it kept dying due to inactivity.
>>1342067>Although, thinking of replacing sub-surface Underground lines (District, Metropolitan etc) with ordinary tracks, so as to enable accurate replication of LU/BR interfaces like Point Pleasant Junction. Thoughts? That would mean replacing all of the tube lines as well, since aside from the Northern and W&C they all connect to each other.
>>1342147I did, yes.
>>1342501Got a screenshot of Luton?
>>1342431I'm a massive hypocrite anyway in terms of striving for accuracy, since I'm just pretending that the Channel Tunnel doesn't exist (otherwise I would have to do all of continental Europe and parts of Asia and my poor 10-year-old PC would definitely not be able to handle that). One more little bodge won't hurt. I shall assuage my conscience by telling myself that this is an idealised representation of Britain's railways rather than a perfect one.>>1342878Pic related.
>>1342890Cheers, even the station gfx for Luton and the Parkway Station both look accurate, that's good stuff.
>>1342890Got a screenshot of bridlington?
>>1343490Might do.>>1343108Sheer coincidence, I assure you. Or maybe a half-remembered Driver's Eye View film by Video 125. I like those.
I’m not very good at micro-management games, is this micro-management? Is it easy? Because I can manage grand strategy, I’m usually a 6-8/10 with that but micro-management was just never my thing.
how good is openttd? how does it compare to simutrans?
>>1343977The game is more set up for macro-management, it's true, but with the assistance of a few spreadsheets I am choosing to micro-manage. For my own pleasure.
>>1330095don't be mean
>>1346961Exactly. Leave that to me.
Bumping with Rotherham. If that isn't desperation then I don't know what is.
