Sig/n/aller here. It's entirely possible that that particular signal has a large interval spacing, meaning that the actual section gap is further ahead of the section signal. This is usually, but not always, done on the approach to particularly hazardous locations so that if a SPAD does occur, the train has a bit more space to stop which is relatively safe to be in. The train being there still means the signal behind that one is red.

Contrarily, some signals have super short intervals, and thus go red almost immediately, sometimes before the first vehicle has passed the signal, especially in urban areas, yards and so on.

I'm not sure if trains can be retrofitted with daylight running lights which can fit the legal criteria or not, or whether this is entirely based on class numbers.
