The dude was right, high speed trains could be much faster and carry more people if we switched to Broad Gauge (5ft 6) or even 6ft gauge

>no gauge

The perfect compromise to bring an end to the Gauge Wars.

Doesn't matter.

IKB would have placed the designers of BART in one of his bridge abutments and then have it bricked up.
>>
Thanks to India and Russia, the plurality of rail passengers actually travel on broad gauge. Standard gauge moves more freight though.

What about OTHER gauge?

Kek, this fucking thing. The olden days were full of crazy ideas.

How about instead of broad gauge we go and make it that gauge the Nazis wanted some railway artillery gun to run on? It's marginally larger than any typical gauge. Would be fun to watch a train built for the gauge to roll along. Not to mention the choo choos would be able to run along at an even faster pace than even broad gauge.

wouldn't be surprised if that's solely because the US is the rail freight KING of the world

It'd work if you have a gyro to balance it...

what the broadest gauge that has maximum efficiency for rail transport? there must be an upper limit somewhere

9 metres

IK Brunel himself actually designed more standard gauge railways than he did broad gauge. One line in South Wales the directors wanted to build broad gauge, but Brunel told them it wasn't suitable.

It's unlikely high speed trains would go any faster on broad gauge. The technical advantages are slight; the quality of the track is far more important.
