>>1282776are you a mickey mouse impersonator? why would you want a folding bike
i haul shit on my backpacki'm happy that my bso is back in action again and granted me my first three strava top trophies last week, good times frens
>>1282778 A folding bike allows me to bike to work without worrying about locking up, I also have the option of bringing it on a taxi or subway if needed.Nice durianrider meme.
>>1282779 new fork?
after 4 years i still LOVE the colorquick question, is the front rack worth the buy ?
>>1282814According to some a front load is more aero. But if you're thinking a basket with heavy stuff on top it might affect handling poorly
>>1282814Unless you need more space or already know you prefer front loading for some reason, stick with the rear racks. The bike will handle better with a typical "rear" load. You could potentially go to a front setup without being affected much by the load shift if you're only taking small loads at a time.
>>1282814Front racks are pretty good desu.Is that a carbon fork?
>>1282925damn son what a sexy bike
>>1282925What a cool bike, your brakes are so rare on a modern bike, and what looks like a sunscreen bottle behind the saddle. I like the color. Super nice/10Here is my new gravel bike (last weeks pic) and needs updated pic with much needed pedals, 4 bottle cages and bags, tools etc....too broke to buy atm. Need monies
>>1282932How do you find riding on rougher surfaces with such a narrow handlebar?
>>1282932That's a really good looking bike. Your photo i think doesn't do it justice. I love the colour scheme. Trek is killing it these days with their colours. I saw a purple ALR the other day damn those things are nice too. Also safety with bright colours
>>1282943not him but if you already ride a road bike it's just totally natural and really fun. you can really go fast on gravel and kind of plane over it, You have to be a bit more careful descending but if your brakes are good enough thats fun too and losing the leverage for climbing can suck a bit, if you run out of gears and if you stand the rear might slip on a crossy bike but if you're strong and can spin up climbs and have low enough gears then it's great I wouldn't head straight to a meme bike though, if you haven't ridden a road bike before, do that first.
Left: Trek X-Caliber, bought new in 2013 for trail riding.Right: Giant TCR2 Aero, got it this week 2nd hand cheap, trying to get back into riding to get fit again. Both semi useful in the fact they can haul shit (me).
>>1282925cantilevers are coming BACK baby>>1282932hey bruh has anybody made them new trek sliders run a fixed wheel? asking for a friend who is full of bad ideas>>1282949TCR rules
>>1282949Such nice colours on the right
>>1282960>TCR rulesThanks, I was worried the bike was going to be too old but it's in such a good condition(aside from the tyres). I think the previous owner just rode it for a summer and left it inside.>>1282992>Such nice colours on the rightI was going to get new tyres and get both the front and rear in blue just to keep the white and blue theme. The faded red is a little weird.
My wifes bike, It's pretty good at hauling shit.

>>1283043>Get rid of that fork diskFork disk? What's wrong with it?
>>1283046They meant the plastic disk behind the cassette on the rear wheel. It's not needed so long as you take care of the drivetrain.
Not mine but... I'm refurbing a similar one just now. Maybe May.

I got this bike about 10 years ago and I'm still riding it daily.
>>1283251beautymaguras...what ergons are those? The don't look familiar...
>>1282800yeh,got me a new 700c rim and 23c tire (so both wheels are equal now) and crazy bike guy had one 27" fork lying around that fit just perfectly. Strangely, it has v-brake inserts for a 26" wheel while the single hole below the headtube seems to have been desgined for a 27" wheel, because of that i'm back at using that chinese long-reach crappy sidepull. I'm looking for a proper medium reach caliper around but i've been unable to find it locally so i might have to buy it online, not sure of what brand is best tho (my only experience is with Logan gear)>>1283043>Ultimate beaterthank yeh, it has come along way for that. Hopefully it will continue serving both as a machine for transport as well as helping reach that strava 1250km challenge.>>1283041looks rad, are you 2m tall? beautiful frame
>>1282949awesome pickup bro. weren't you asking about whether or not it would be a good idea to buy the giant earlier this week?
>>1283036awesome pic. where abouts?
I haven't rode in a while. I need a new chain and a longer seatpost. Also white bar tape was a mistake.
>>1282932I have a 2018 version of this bike, how do you like the tires?
>>1283043Its a brompton, they are definitely worth the money. There are people who use these things for long distance touring.
>>1283259clean your lens dude
>>1282943>How do you find riding on rougher surfaces with such a narrow handlebar?I have not ridden this bike yet. I rode pure road bikes on gravel before and it was manageable, but not comfortable. This bike can rock up to 42mm. So the long days will be smoother. >>1282945I have a black ALR, I bought my first trek and fell in love with the brand..amazing finish and build quality.
>>1282945The ALR emonda..amazing bike on centuries. Almost as smooth as carbon
>>1283259Get a carbon post. Chain reaction has nice ones...brand x
>>1283225Oh right. Yeah it's gone, that pic was of the bike when it was new. Got rid of the bike stand and put some good pedals on it, but that's about it.>>1283257Yeah, was mostly concerned with the age of the bike but it's held up really well.
>>1283046Meant dork disk, my bad
>>1283283It's cool to run carbon on aluminum? Any extra precautions I need to take?
>>1283310It's very cool, it smooths out the ride. The higher end version of my emonda has one. I noticed it's so much nicer on rough streets. The only precaution is to use a bit of fiber grip paste and to not over torque your clamp.I always use carbon grip paste to prevent slippage...it will scratch up your parts, it's a bit gritty
>>1283310>>1283259White bar tape that looks dirty is sick though. Give it a free months or maybe rub some dusty dirt on them to cut the brightness. Assuming you bought proper cork tapeI agree with the carbon seatpost. Absolute easiest weight weenie move. But be advised that the cheapies are usually zero setback carbon seatposts and they are harsh as fuck. Setback is good imho
>>1282960>hey bruh has anybody made them new trek sliders run a fixed wheel? asking for a friend who is full of bad ideasI have not seen it yet. I will not personally, it's a good thing to have. If you snap your derailleur, you can convert to single speed and keep on trekking. No pun intended.

>>1283446They are a gravel drop bar with some sweep. I think it's the origin 8 Gary sweep? And yeah my bar tape looks like shit but it keeps my bike from getting stolen and adds an extra layer of grimmyness that I like

It's been cold and snow. I found a huge snow dick while out riding. The stick hair is a nice touch. This river is frozen over.
>>1283227Thas dope dude, plus tire hard tails are so fun. I love the plus minions. Frame lookin' nice and slack, those sondors seem like a good value. Fork seems a bit low end but probaby does the job for ya.
darting across the post-soviet streetscape on this boy
I finally put fenders on my bike, I'm not completely satisfied with them though. The front part of the front fender rattle and the front part of the rear fender is a bit too short... I think i can fixthe rattling problem. I guess next step is changing the pedals for ones with ball bearing and drilling the rear triangle to install modern brake calipers.

>>1284355here's the nice bike with bad handlebars. it also has an ugly stem and those gross looking plastic clips on the front fender
>>1284237Correct.
>>1282932>>1282928>>1282960>>1283043>>1283674Thanks for the compliments on the Crux guys, I can't wait to race on it- unfortunately I developed a fairly severe knee injury a few weeks ago so I haven't really been able to train or ride at all lately. Here's my Epic- got a new crankset and cassette on it, think this'll be it's final form aside from some carbon bars that come in. Can't wait to be able to race this one either. >>1284356That's a beautiful bike, but the bars are very stupid and the fenders and bag don't really belong. Anyone know what cranks those are? I've never seen a 3 piece crank that had the classic look while also being 110BCD.
>>1284376>>1284356Not sure why there's so much hate for those bars and panniers now, I had the same parts for years and years on a different frame, now retired, and nobody ever said anything unfavorable about them... not that I care, they work well for me and that's all that matters. The cranks are nothing special, just cheap chinese 110 bcd cranks that I stripped the anodizing from and polished to a matte finish.
>>1284417forgot pic
It's snowing in Seattle...
>>1284355>someone posted your bike on /b/ todayYep that was me.
>>1284422Cool snow tank. I'm jealous
>>1284355Your bike is about 85% ugly
>>1284356You know some people due to bad wrists and whatnot, have to have the bars that way or they can't ride
>>1284355>>1284355Looks like a bike that needs Cinelli Red Zebra Tape. That off white tape looks like it'll give me hepatitis.
>>1284418I understand the appeal of this kind of bar. I used to run a set of nitto moustache bars set up basically the same way, offering the same riding position. It was comfy as fuck! But the look of it is just really bad, especially with the black bar tape and tig welded stem. If you used red or brown bar tape and a more traditional style stem, it would look a lot better.
>>1284518hmmm i really don't mind those tig welded stems, they are period correct for 90s bikes
95% finished. Considering swapping the ridiculously long 150 mm stem for something shorter to get a bit more upright. Waiting on U brake rear to arrive. But yeah, rides gud, hauls beer gud
>>1284554I don't think the brooks saddle fits the style but it's all about comfort.I agree the long stem looks a bit off but IDK if it was stock. I just would have gone with replacing it with another triple in front because those GTs are truly all mountain bikes made to go from your house, down the road, down the path, up the mountain and down the mountain. In my mind a small front rind and wide cassette can't fully do the flats. One of the fun things about 90s era MTBs is having that big ring you occasionally use on-road.
>>1284551looks like the perfect frame to do that conversion on. Cheap-ish and lots of room to work.
>>1284554thats awesomekeep the stupid stem and get some bars that sweep back and up
>>1284355I think it's neat.the tape is gross and you're a manlet though.there's bike threads on /b/ now?
>>1284417>The cranks are nothing special, just cheap chinese 110 bcd cranks thow many teeth on the rings and link plz?
>>1284551this is not the troll bike thread
>>1284589god no. that'd be like 3 left turns instead of just turning right.>>1284554do what you said about the shorter, taller stem. putting a swept-back bar on that would be ok.

>>1284554>>1284587>>1284589>>1284609>>1284610>>1284800I picked this up as a frame/stem only, so all other parts are either from my stash or scrounged or aliexpress/Amazon specials. If it came 3x I likely would have kept it that way.The stem is actually pretty sweet, it's the original GT flip/flop. Double quill wedge steerer insert and removable faceplate. I would like to keep but it's just too dang long to be comfy. Maybe I could chop 70mm out of it and Tig it back together but dunno if I'd trust it. I thought about getting some swept back townie or moustache bars but I had the mini bmx ready to throw on and I think long stem and swept bars would just look a bit wack.
>>1284857I tried a Bosco riv bars. I might still use them but I found them only good if they were 3+ inches above my saddle and on a 120mm+ stem. YMMV etc, I should have bought some $15 Wald tourist bars .... Fuck

>>1285212non drive side, still in shadow. cmon dude we just want to see the bike
>>1285212> Doesnt cost too muchHow much exactly? Where can I buy it?
>>1285127agree with>>1285128the subject should have the light bouncing off of it and into your lens.in this case, the light reflected off the bike is bouncing away from the lens, resulting in the entire subject in shadow and throwing a shadow toward the lens.you cannot *graph* the *photo*ns if they're all shooting the opposite direction.you took a picture of shoes.I know this isn't /p/ but this really shouldn't be difficult for adults to understand, yet a/n/ons constantly fuck up the most very fundamental idea of photography.Sorry for singling you out but I'm speaking to the whole board, here.If you don't want to move to the opposite side of the bike try turning the flash on. a phone flash may not be powerful enough, but it could be worth a shot.

Folder. To satisfy my curiosity and assemble a bike for the first time, I purchased the frame directly from Taobao, including about 85% of the parts. It's totally feasible if you do your homework, but I probably spent more money and time(especially waiting on shipping directly from China) than I should have. >>1285840Yes, on the more expensive side. Still not sure how much I like it since I'm not used to a small wheel ride yet. At a minimum I like the gear range and the folding mechanism which requires no real maintenance unlike those with hinges like Dahons and Terns. >>1286541>All 90s rigid mtbs had the same geometryOk, "relatively" high bb, or rather the appearance of it with the almost non-existent bb drop on both bikes. It definitely has 26" tires, or at least smaller than 700c. The bb might not actually be that high with the 26" tires. That plus the slack angles, long wheelbase, canti hanger, long top tube still scream 90s MTB or even 80s ATB
>>1286541He's right, though. It definitely looks like a 90s mtb.
Useful? Yeah, it racks up the miles. If hauling shot = practical than maybe not so much.

>>1286905Nice bike, one you get your position dialed in, cut your steerer tube down. It's way safer on the tube and looks cleaner. I literally do this the same day I bring home a bike
Last night
>>1286938yeah, I mean to... my position is super dialled and I wouldn't change anything, but still i fear the permanency
>>1286970those direct mount brakes are really cool desu
>>1286809I'm not sure desuI rode it down a half-mile street near my neighborhood; I got it to 40 mph but pretty sure it could go faster because it didn't stop accelerating. (also I stopped pretty early on because the bike started wobbling and I only had one brake in the rear)It's a 1000w electric motor driving the front wheel and a 80cc 2 stroke gas motor driving the rear wheel. You can pedal to accelerate faster.
>>1286970>still i fear the permanencyDont, you can always get a riser stem. What's more fearful is snapping a steerer tube from not clamping around the compression plug. Cut the tube, I ride 5k miles per year and on shit roads. I would be afraid of not cutting it
>>1284551>>>/o/
>>1286616Very pretty
>>1286970>i fear the permanencyAn equivalent steel fork with a straight steerer costs between $100. $40 dollars, plus is safer, so cutting it would be NBD. Heh. Anyways enjoy your carbon>>1287057>What's more fearful is snapping a steerer tube from not clamping around the compression plug. Can't you just lower the plug?
>>1286905I'm gonna suggest, with very little expertise, that your fit might be wrong and not dailed at all. I have had my saddle like that and the real fit I needed was saddle slammed back and a lower stem. Also ism saddle for prostate in droppy road positionBasically also I'm gonna say your stem is high so it is unlikely you will ever move it up... Probably needs to go lower over time

>>1286152>splashtape>stem shifterswould not bang.frame and rekt decal are cool tho
>>1286221not him but the housing is somewhat alarmingly straight (compare to the slight bend from bar to frame) however, that's really just a preconceived notion. bare cables on downtube shifters run straight.it's actually cool looking since it's parallel to the seat stay.since it runs straight you maybe could remove the housing, it might look cool (?) but that's some trouble for no functional reason; just aesthetics.

>>1287193>Can't you just lower the plug? They sell long compression plugs, ..dude, resale on bicycles does not get affected by 10mm of stem lowering. Unless you slam your stem, you will not have issues reselling. Plus used prices are bad anyhoo

>>1287193https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2PMfPiy90ECheck that out, ...if you do not cut, get the long plug
>>1287287I agree with most his speech except, I use carbon paste and torque to spec. I have zero issues with slippage or adjustment over 5k miles.
>>1287275This, cutting the steerer has little effect on used prices because you're selling for pennies on the dollar anyways. This is just a gripe from cheap asses who only buy used wishing the bike had more steerer. It's not like their cheap asses that only buy used are actually going to pay more for it.
>>1287287What if you use star nut
>>1287308If you cut, you tap it down.
