well first of all aotd is album of the decade, but you have like 8 album of the decades so that doesn't make much sense
second, yeah, this is pretty much dominated by whatever is most popular from any given year, sing to god aside. just go on rateyourmusic for each year and explore some of the other top albums to see if anything else tickles your fancy, or just pick albums that seem to be in a genre you'd like

>I can’t even name one album from 1994.
Yikes

Here's some shit you might like
>Green Day - Dookie
>Pavement - Crooked Rain Crooked Rain
>Beck - Mellow Gold
>Nine Inch nails - The Downward Spiral
>Soundgarden - Superunknown
>The Offspring - Smash
>Hole - Live Through this
>Live - Throwing Copper
>Sonic Youth - Experimental Jet Set Trash and No Star
>Weezer - The Blue Album
>Stone Temple Pilots - Purple
>Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand
>Boredoms - Chocolate Synthesizer
>Sponge - Rotting Pinata
>Toadies - Rubberneck
>Oasis - Definitely Maybe
>REM - Monster
>Smashing Pumpkins - Pisces Iscariot
>Pearl Jam - Vitology

Those are all 1994 albums that I enjoy or did enjoy at the time (read what you want into that). Based on your AOTY for the rest of the 90s, your AOTY in 1994 should be one of those.
