why the fuck is nobody talking about this
>>
>>86498640
it's my AOTY so far
like Frank Ocean's Endless only more soulful
>>
Cause simz dropped. Only one black girl artist around
>>
>>86498640
It’s actually pretty shit
>>
Fantano gave it a 6
>>
>>86498640
everyone here is white and has rightly chosen to stay in their lane
>>
It is good but not as good as a seat at the table
>>
the lyrics are too repetitive for anyone to take it seriously

nice production, lackluster delivery

probably a b-
>>
>>86498799
repetition is useful in poetry retard

sorry it's not a dragonforce song telling an epic tale about slaying a goblin king
>>
cuz deep down we all still hate n words
>>
beyonce is the only one that matters nobody cares about her sister. also carti was the only good part. here's his part only. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09xXGgoLPq0
>>
>>86498640
Because it's bland as fuck.
>>
I've listened to this thing multiple times while cleaning the house and it is a good album but the repetition on songs really get to me. Time(is) and My Skin My Logo are two examples which really annoy me. People are complaining that this album doesn't have a declarative stance on some social justice issues or doesn't represent any black issues. Instead of making another album detailing the disenfranchisement and non-existent platform for Blacks to raise concerns about civil rights and social justice. Solange opted for a more ethereal approach to the production. The album feels more like a steamy haze than a protest; with all the sexual imagery and moaning samples peppered within the production. Binz is still my favorite song on the record, and makes me glad Panda is rubbing shoulders with highly watched artists. I rated this album the same as a SATT on rym. 4.0
>>
>>86498823
useful=/=good lmao

imagine how much better this album would be with lyrics like that
>>
>>86498677
the same guy who gave Daughters a 10
>>
>>86498640
Because his album covers annoy me. Weird androgynous Prince lookin ass.
>>
>>86498640
It’s fucking terrible. The amount of good modern RnB artists in the 2010s that are good can be counted on one hand.
>>
AOTY thus far. If you're not in tune with her influences on this record, it's gonna go right over your head. The repetition that gets complained about it a great callback to Houston's Screwtape culture. It's a beautiful poetic record, that I think will get better reception at the end of the year when people are re-listening to records.

Internet music communities like /mu/ are still very rockist due to heir introverted male dominance. This means that they’ll look down on any pop. Solange’s new album is gonna get even more shit due to how weirdly the album’s structured like some sorta fever dream Mulholand Drive type shit going on because of how the songs seem “incomplete” yet interact with each other to make that feeling.

an actually well thought out post on /mu/ sheesh
>>
>>86499221
So what would you call it? The majority of it is very obviously RnB and Neo Soul (which is a subgenre Of RnB)
>>
>>86498799
I think the repetition adds to the psychedelic feeling of the album, repetition has traditionally been a huge element of psychedelic music
>>
>>86499417
I'm hispanic and love pop though. Especially RnB. This album is really not that good
>>
>>86499417
you're right about the attitude on this board, but this album is not that good
>>
im sick of these kind of album covers
>>
>>86499417
I actually really love RnB, and art pop is one of my favorite genres. I still hate this
Also, MD has fully formed ideas, this album not only has weakly explored ideas, is incredibly homogenous, repetitive, and filled with filler, but the ideas aren’t even that good or interesting to begin with.
Also, for an RnB/Soul album, the vocals are weak and generic as fuck
>>
>>86499588
You do know this was stolen from a Fantano video right?
>>
>>86499863
which one
>>
>>86499918
I believe it was the latest Let’s Argue.
I honestly don’t agree with him on that either. One, because DC is actually shit, and two, because people like Newsom, Monae, Simone, and Björk are praised on there, and rightfully so.
DC is just low rated, because they’re shitty.

Update: yep, I was right

i wouldnt classify neo soul as a subgenre of rnb as rnb is only one of many inspirations for it

The "black" meme is over. Artists like Solange profited off the BLM stuff a few years ago, now no one cares.

That's a klingon female

I have no interest in this blatant nepotism.

I personally think Solange is a Savage AF Queen who is working her way up in the industry with hard work and talent and definitely not anything else. Yasss queen slay! That's the tea sis!

Maybe try reddit.

Its just a less interesting, more disposable version of a seat at the table

how much soyy would i have to consume to enjoy this?

It's great. Grows on me every listen. Almeda is perfection

I had way more immediate reaction to this than to ASATT. The production and the overall flow is better although there are more songwriting highlights on A Seat

I don’t agree with him a lot of the time, but I enjoy him.
Good I’d videos to waste time.
>>
All politics aside it's so fucking dynamically boring because across the album so much of the writing style and the instrumental palette remains vaguely the same, at some point with the direction it was going (i.e. slightly more experimental ASATT) I was waiting for a Patty Waters "Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair" type moment where there's a big dynamic shift that "resolves" everything built up beforehand but the only songs where that even remotely happened were Almeda, Binz and maybe My Skin My Logo. Most of the album just felt like an aimless, extended intro
