>black metal album made after 1995 has a tremolo riff
>>85226144>post the same critique and gif for a week straight and rapes F5
>>85226029>WumpscutNever properly checked them out but I really should. I like that type of electro-industrial stuff and I've heard from a few metalheads that they're good. Used to know a qt Finnish girl through facebook who liked them a lot
Alright, its time for me to listen to Burzum for the first time ever. Starting with their debut self titled studio album.
>>85226249Nice. Report results as always, based review anon.
>>85226249do not say "their" the band was literally always just one person
>music album made after the 1960s has instruments and notes
>>85226249also i don't know how you can give altars a fucking 7 and the most overrated sodom release a 10 while also hating deathcrush
>do not say "their" >the band was literally always just one person
>>85226317fuck off autist, he probably knows. saying "his" implies Burzum is a person rather than a project, and it just sounds wrong
>>85226317Oh shit, assumed Burzum was a band and not a solo project. Sorry, I usually do research on the artist and album while I'm listening to it and not beforehand.
worst band logos?
>>85226351probably because early Sodom is filth-licking autistic retard caveman music in its most perfect form, and Altars of Madness is a glorified thrash metal album with shitty fake drums
>>85226412is it really bad if it's ironic?
>>85226249Did you ever post your thoughts of Altars, Lerprosy, SBG and Reeking? Also, are you the same grindcore anon who asked for /metal/ recs a few threads earlier?
>>85226413what a stupid fucking commentif you think altars is mostly thrash you quite literally have no sense for telling genres apartit's arguably the first pure death metal album as every other release in 1989 is way thrashier
>>85226351>everyone should think like mekys
WHAT ARE YOU BLASTING /MEAL/?I'm blasting pic related in honour of the thread that didn't make it
Horna is good
>>85226518good ol thrash
>>85226463This is true about Altars.>>85226413But this is also true about Sodom.
>>85226351My rating will probably change once I listen to Sodom's entire discography and compare them, but it left a great impression on me. Also I don't hate deathcrush, I just think its average.>>85226429I've posted all my thoughts on everything I've listened to on the chart in earlier threads, and yes I am the same grindcore Anon from a few threads earlier who asked for recs. I picked out a few albums to organize in a chart, I'll probably make another chart or expand my current one once I finish whats currently on it.
I'll never get the cult around Altars. Nobody ever gets that butthurt when somebody disses Slayer or early Death or Hellhammer of CF or Bathory, all of whom were more interesting and more influential than Morbid Angel.
>>85226559>I'll never get the cult around AltarsIt's pretty simple desu, check this out:GHOULS
>>85226518ain't metal, but I would love recs for IBM that sounds a lil like this
>>85226518https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZzDsxEerlQThis is fucking retarded, I love itIt's dumb ÖÖÖGH caveman-stupid death metal and in my opinion better than their debut
>>85226549Nice, you have fairly good taste for someone who just started getting into metal. Burzum might dissapoint you if you need the music to be more on the chaotic/angry side though.

>>85226559as you can see, the answer is that Altars is just dense with meme material
>>85226653How about the first two Bathory albums and a Darkthrone or Emperor album?
>>85226724Already heard all three, good shout though, all great albums
>>85226755you should have listened to chimera instead of deathcrush its greatest mayhem album

>>85225967I've been championing that album for months now. Glad to see it heading a general. If you liked that you should give this one a go

>>85226597IBM anon is always here to help. They might not be 100% spot on but they're the closest ones that come to mind rn. >>85226724>>85226899what about Aborym, Axis Of Perdition, early 00s Blut Aus Nord, Sprawl, The Helheim Society, and maybe Void
>>85226946No problem. Again though, out of those only Reaktor 4 really fit what you're looking for.
>>85226929THE EVIL STAAAAAAAAAR
>>85226971The point is that they have to sound like Wumpscut though. Those bands really don't (I think. Haven't heard Sprawl and I'm only somewhat familiar with The Helheim Society).>>85226946>>85226899Also, the last link was supposed to be thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fRB27kFOG0
>>85227040IT'S A BLACK FUNERAL

>still no Norwegian BM chart
>>85227116have you tried burzum :DDDD
>>85227051>only somewhat familiar with The Helheim Societythey literally only have four songsAlso: Mezzerschmitt
>>85227040I absolutely loved that movie when I was a kid
>>85226537That band defines great cover art, average music
>>85227098Good album, and one of the few covers that still make me kinda uncomfortable. Good shit.
>>85227155>they literally only have four songsI have only listened to the EP on youtube once like a year ago.
>>85227182>make me kinda uncomfortableis it the peepee, billy?
>>85227186Then you are thoroughly familiar with the band. I take it you weren't impressed though. I was. Especially since it was recorded in 1996. Very sad they never even released a full length. It was like a mix between Mysticum's and Thorns' s/t
>>85227214Idunno what it is about it. I've seen all these crazy gore covers and the most over the top shit you can imagine and that doesn't really faze me. I guess it's just the story connected to the photograph.
>>85227272Well yeah, I have heard all their stuff so technically I'm thoroughly familiar with them but I don't remember what they sounded like at all. I checked it out again and it's pretty good.
>>85227320I'd say that EP should be an essential IBM release, or maybe even an essential 90s norwegian BM release. On top of the Mysticum drum machine + classic Norwegian riffs and the Thornsy anger and angularity, they have those nice little DHG moments too where the tracks change into something more syncopated and solemn, especially the first track.
>>85226518https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBQ7hFjNp9Aloving this so far
>>85227098It's ok second wave grindcore but I don't think it's worth the cult status. Check out early Rotten Sound.
Listened to Lifelover for the first timegod damn they suck
>>85227425>early Rotten Soundparticularly pic related
>>85227391Yeah I don't know why they didn't register as something out of the ordinary for me. Shit's good. I checked them out during a NBBMN so it might just have been over-exposure to tremolo picking and minor chords. I don't really like the semi-punkish shouted vocals though.>>85227448Listen to Konkurs or DekadensEverything else is more or less garbage
>>85227425>>85227504I've listened to Rotten Sound before but I only heard Exit and thought it was just okay, is pic related any better?
>>85227540Less deathgrind, crustier, more primitive (though I don't really know what to say to someone who thinks the best deathgrind album of the 00s is just okay?)
>>85227504Rotten Sound 1994-1999 is so comfy, I don't know what it is but it feels like visiting my old neighbourhood

>>85230370protip: metal is a genre, and everything else is a subgenre, style, substyle or approach. NWOBHM is a style. It is not "trad". Traditional heavy metal is what came before the new (hence the name, do you see?) wave, that is, everything from 1970 to the late 70s. Now go kill yourself.
>>85230401NWOBHM is a style of trad, yesWell done
>>85230431>I don't understand words>hurr well doneYou're a hopeless retard. The name itself, not to mention the music, signals a rupture from tradition, you mongoloid. NWOBHM doesn't sound like traditional metal, and it's the style that actually turned metal as a whole from a subgenre of rock, which it was up to the late 70s, into a genre in and of itself, and made the accelerated and branched evolution it went through during the 80s possible.Again: You have the cognitive abilities of a gnat.
>>85230539Thanks for the enlightenment, broski
Finished listening to Burzum's self titled debut album. The beginning kind of scared the shit out of me. But anyways, this is a really great solid album, I like the sound of this artist's work and I am very intrigued to hear more. The guitar was great, with that some of that low, deep, buzzing and heavy guitar that I've grown fond of. The drums were good too, and the vocals were pretty great, I like the sound of his voice and it really resonates with me, it truly is pleasant to listen to. This album has a nice theme and tone to it, and there were also some occasional ambient synth tracks which I found to be a good change of pace, I wasn't much a fan of some of the guitar solos though. My favourite track was My Journey To The Stars and I'm giving this a strong 8/10. Would definitely listen to it again in the future and maybe even consider owning a physical copy.
>>85230774>The beginning kind of scared the shit out of methat's weirdwhat did you think of the track (huh) War?
>>85230774>I wasn't much a fan of some of the guitar solos thoughRemin me, which guitar solos? Isn't the only one on War?
>>85230774>The drums were good too
M-16 is a better album than In the Sign of Evil fith me
>>85230824I think so, I just remember there being a guitar solo that felt really out of place at some point. >>85230808Yea theres this like really loud dialing noise at the beginning or some shit and it spooked me. Maybe I had my headphones too high or something?
>>85230829Vikerness was a very good drummer, as far as early second wave goes. He had quite the groove and could keep a steady beat (unlike some people, eh, Abbath?), his footwork is impeccable (just listen to Jesu Dod) and absolutely shined on the slower bits. Granted, he was no Hellhammer, but no one is no Hellhammer except Hellhammer.
>>85230863>dialing noise at the beginning or some shit and it spooked me>Deedoodeedoodeedoodeedoo *drumstick click* *blastbeats*I love that shit. It's iconic.
>>85230854I agree, I don't get the hype for their "black" metal phase, also Agent Orange is their best album.
>>85230869oh I'm not at all saying that Varg's drumming was never good. HLTO and Filosofem are excellently done. But the drumming on the S/T is not particularly tight. It's not Judas Iscariot-tier awful, but it is sloppy in places.
>>85230401>It is not "trad". Traditional heavy metal is what came before the new wavesays who? "Traditional metal" is liberally used to describe stuff like Omen and Dio's first album, which aren't NWOBHM, but are stylistically closer to a lot of nwobhm bands than Black Sabbath or whatever.why do metalheads get so autistic over labels
>>85230907>throws a hissy fit because his opinions on genre/subgenre names are being challenged and proven wrong>WHY SO AUTISMO XD
>>85230869Hellhammer is currently a cybernetic humanoid who is more tasteless sounding triggers than flesh and blood, which sorta cancels out the good he did in the 90s
>>85230947>sorta cancels out the good he did in the 90snever
>>85230863>I just remember there being a guitar solo that felt really out of place at some point. Not exactly surprising since Varg neither wrote nor played that solo. That's Euronymous (Mayhem guitarist before Varg shanked him) you're hearing.
>>85230863Yeah, that would be the one on War. He had Euronymous record a solo for the fun of it.>>85230886I wonder what gave him the idea for that intro lol It's so out of place but so awesome. Same thing with the "TUUUT TUUUUT" at the begining of Ea Lord of the Depths.
>>85230999>Same thing with the "TUUUT TUUUUT" at the begining of Ea Lord of the Depths.nobody's idea, just some guitar feedback
>>85230981truth is, he probably shanked him for that solo alone>>85230999I was gonna ask you what you thought of the impossibly fitting notes of feedback at the beginning of Ea. I dunno, it gives it a more lively feeling, more honest and candid. That, and time + status has made those little mistakes sound better than they probably are, but it's liked enough that one band that participated in one of several tribute albums, which made a metal version of one of his keyboard tracks (an idea that he himself would make his own on Belus), actually recreated that bit of feedback as a nod to Ea.As for the sound that opens the album, I've no idea what it is. Sort of sounds like two different feedback signals interrupting eachother. Either that or he actually used a sample of an ambulance??
>>85231064>actually recreated that bit of feedback as a nod to Ea.here's the song in case anyone's curioushttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cR_GXiqasEEthree years before Belus

>>85231117We have this.
>>85230981>>85230999Ooooh, okay, yea that makes sense. Its Euronymous playing it.
>>85231117yes here it is
>>85231096the main riff sounds kind of neat here but holy shit does the other one ever sound like garbage
>>85231146oh wait someone actually made a part IIthere you go >>85231117 that's the essential charts
>>85231155well it's a faithful transcription of the melodies in the original, at least
>>85231039Really? It sounds like he's playing some sort or minor second or diminished fith. But since the same sound appears at the end of some tracks I guess you're right.>>85231064I think the feedback is fucking briliant. I can't listen to the rerecorded version of Ea since it just feels so wrong without the tuut tuut.Another thing I like about early Burzum is the drum stick clicking. Varg didn't use a click track so in songs like A Lost and Forgotten Sad Spirit or Spell of Destruction you can hear him keeping time with the sticks in the breaks.Tiny details like that just improve the album for me.>>85230774Also dude, listen to Bathory's first couple of records. Specifically the deut if you have to pick just one, since you liked In The Sign of Evil so much.
>>85231200>I can't listen to the rerecorded version of EaDo you mean to say you can listen to the rest of that godawful, unnecessary, embarrassing mess of a cashgrab? Also I've been talking about his clicking on A Lost Forgotten[...] and every time I tried to point it out to someone they'd go "nah man I can't hear it, you're imagining it", so thanks
>>85231228>tfw reminded that the rerecorded version of key to the gate exists
>>85231228Eh. Not really. Some tracks kinda work but I rarely listen to it. What I meant is that I always get really hung up specifically on the missing toots.> every time I tried to point it out to someone they'd go "nah man I can't hear itPeople don't hear that? The clicking is actually one of the things that's always stood out to me about Burzum's drumming.
>>85231304Well back when I was socially active and actually talked to other, uh, metal enthusiasts, it was always dudes who had been listening to it and going to shows for 15, 20 years, so I suppose they were a bit deaf by then. Still, my own brother who's barely one and a half years older than me and likes black metal couldn't hear them until I pointed them out, and at first he thought it was just random clicking on the tape itself

>>85232059Honestly I know a few guitarists and they usually bring this guy up as someone they respect on a technical level. I could never get into the wank though.
>>85232173I honestly don't even get the hype over Malmsteen on a technical level. He noodles around in complicated neoclassical patterns at a gorillion miles an hour. That's all he's done for 30 years. If I really feel like listening to shred for some bizarre reason I'd rather listen to somebody like Steve Vai use their wank to do something interesting instead of just playing scales really really fast.

>>85232572Year of the cadaver race and Brave new hell are the only songs i personally listen to. Give them a try
New to black metal here. I just heard filosofem and I fucking loved it. Any albums that I should check out that are similar?
>>85232617especially the 1st and 3rd tracks
>>85232617na that one's p unique. The other black albums I know are either blistering fast or boring atmoshit.
>>85232617I seem to recall having this argument years ago. We came to the conclusion that there are no albums like it, really, and it's also a pretty bad introduction to black metal, since it's far from representative (in fact Vikernes sort of wanted it to be an "anti-black metal" album).Closest thing I can offer is pic related, but only because of the fuzziness and the predominantly slow tempo. That's as far as similarities go.
>>85232617fuck off you filthy tourist
>>85232679fuck, posted the original cover with cyrillicband name is Branikaldt and album is Rdjandalir
>>85228330Easily the worst track Convulsing has done though. I say that as a mega fanboy, Brendan is a fucking monster.
Dark Funeral's vocalist has that PERFECT high pitched voicehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72SmnlWQOjYGod i wish i could do that.
>>85232687I said that I was new to bm, but funny meme tho
>>85232679great album. the guitar feels like a blizzard.
>>85232695fuck it here's a linkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DFJ3RtjPsg
>>85232639The only one comes from a literally who bands called TOBC with their album "Heart of Darkness". Almost no one knows this band exists but they do a really good job of creating the "Filosofem 2" that never was. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQSVzIjmiTc
>>85232751Don't sleep on BBH in general, niggershttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhvw1ql7a9Uhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNG2AN9Zk9cthey had just the right amount of Norwegian influence: it was there, but they had their own feel.
>>85232572They're decent enough OSDM, give them a shot if you really like that stuff, otherwise you're not missing much. Also I'm pretty sure Akerfeldt only did vox on their first and third LPs so you can skip them if you wanna avoid him liike crazy
>>85232817fuck meant to reply to >>85232617
>>85232736We have no room for tourist, false and poser faggots here. Stay away from metal.
>>85232617next step is Burzum's best album, det som engang var
>>85232830>Also I'm pretty sure Akerfeldt only did vox on their first and third LPs so you can skip them if you wanna avoid him liike crazyAnd on the second, which is their best album. It's fucking outrageous that you would seriously recommend someone to not check out the band's best albums just because the vocals are not up to their liking. To each his own, but Mika's vocals are fucking goat and especially on Nightmares made flesh
>>852328832/10 come on man
>>85232915Hey I didn't say not to check them out, I just said it was their choice, I think his vox are great as well but I ain't gonna force it on 'em
>>85232923I'm dead serious. Metal needs elitism to throw filthy tourists like him to the trash.
>>85232992sorry your pretentious presentation didn't quite sell that regular-ass polish outfit, "m8"
>>85232817Probably the closest thing to Filosofem I've heard desu, although it's practically a blatant rip off. Still appreciate it because of how rare the sound is.
more vocals like this?
>>85233070A half inch of millions of nerve endings, a half inch that divides real Alpha Chadmen from frankencock dicklets like myself. I have spent 22 years cowering in the shadows of these Testicular Titans, these Golden Glansed Gargantuans. I can maintain an erection and ejaculate, though you can't really call it that. My wrinkly kerotinized nub dribbling a miserable pittle of a few hundred dead sperm can hardly compare to the powerful blast of a natural EVROPArection in it's flesh-wreathed glory. They will regret this. I will not stop until the world sees the severed horror of my mangled cockgoblin and bans the shekel shears forever. This is your fault Jews/Christians. By Wotan, one day, you will see the pathetic horror of my stump and know true loss. My loss
>>85233127goddamn that mouth, it's like staring into a gunshot wound
>>85233120you're one level away from the terminus of autistic screeching vocalsstep off the cliff
Give it to me straight doc. How normie am i?
>>85233178tfw shekel shears cut my post off
>>85233195dont listen to a thing they say man. youre doing just fine
>>85233126Holy kek what the fuck did I just read
>>85233195>1/3 boomercore>1/3 nostalgic millennialcore>1/3 basic bitch music nerd coreit's like you took three normies and put them in a blender
>>85233156He's not an onion boy for the record. He's the Guinness world record holder for the largest mouth gape, some random German dude IIRC. It won't get much bigger than that.
>>85233193to play devil's advocate: hello there
>>85233195About 8.5\10 on normie level. Swap Sodom and Burzum with Slipknot and Metallica and you'll be the ultimate pleb
>>85233195>>85233195Very, but at least you're not the toxic kind of normie who makes everything around worse simply by being themselves. I mean, I'm mostly saying this since I see no metallica albums in that chart
>>85233300nono, he also needs to swap septicflesh and sanctuary with CoF (or CoB) and something like Iron Maiden
>>85229371whoops, this was meant for >>85229329
>>85233322>he doesn't like KEM or RTLEasiest way to spot a poser
>>85233374>;_; d-don't mess with metallica dude they're the heaviest band in the world!!
>>85233366Septicflesh is literally lamb of god with orchestral vibes and thrash\power metal is entry level genre.
>>85233359>still seething like four hours latersad, dude. whoever you're replying to is probably asleep or fucked off
>>85232679This was excactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
>>85233257I think Dictius te Necare is a different style than the other two being discussed. Rainer isn't doing that kind of flimsy-sounding wail that pisses so many people off about Silencer (or Weakling) he's just screaming his fucking head off.Probably the greatest BM vocal performance of all time though.
>>85233438I didn't even read the posts, I just like triggering people who try to avoid giving (you)s
>>85226144Reminder that this poster is still here shitting up the thread with low quality bait.
>>85233408Haha I know and what's with Lars' drumming??? he can't even keep time!edit: wow reddit gold? thank you kind stranger!
>>85233460Yeah that's fair. Always has to be brought up when the topic of the wildest BM vox comes up, 'cause oh man, it's WILD.Also I'm gonna shill the single that Rainer put out a lil while back from his solo project, cause it is fucking crazy goodhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EalDyqtZ7lkThat's all we've got so far but holy shit it rules.
>>85233475thats just plain weird then
ONE NOTHING WRONG WITH ME
>>85233410So how normie you are is based on which genres you listen to, and not the specific band/album now?Someone who listens to Persecution Mania might as well listen to St. Anger, because both bands are thrash?
>>85233414>>85233492A S S B L A S T E D
>>85233509I actually didn't know this existed. That's pretty fucking cool. Hopefully it actually does come out this year, I don't think I can handle any more albums stuck in delay hell right now.
>>85233561How the fuck did you flip it like that, are you a female? >Septicflesh is a normie band>Thrash metal is baby's first metal exposureArgue that these are wrong, I dare you motherfucker
>>85233568I'm not mad, just kinda sad. when I see tourists who dismiss Metallica for scene politics reasons while worshipping at the altar of C-rate deaththrash albums Ultraboris rated above 85%, I get sad about what they're missing out on. I get sad thinking about how they're fooling themselves into thinking cucking themselves out of top 10 GOAT albums like Master of Puppets is cool/patrician. it's empathy, not anger.
>>85232020bewitcher is a banger ngl
Did someone say screaming-your-throat-out extreme vocals?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYimUNtWLd8
>>85233618>filename is a unix timestamp from the futureyou made this didn't you
>>85233127dude looks like Moloch from Artemis Fowl with that un-hinged jaw
>>85233673>im not angry just disappointedgo to bed boomer
>>85233685sounds like a fucking bird
>>85233713He actually fucked up his vocal chords and had to relinquish vocal duties. Thank fuck, though, otherwise their debut album probably wouldn't have been the 11/10 it is
>>85233688Regardless of what I answer, you would believe I did anyways. So sure, why not.
>>85233754another possiblity is that you found it from knowyourmeme or some other such site and renamed it (ineptly) to look like you didn't browse that site
>>85233809Sure, why not.
>>85233867well in any case it is something very touristy, whatever the case is
would the two of you fuck off
