Are CDJ 1000s the cheapest option to learn to DJ on something that doesn't look like a Fisher Price animal noises soundboard?I considered vinyl, but it would be too expensive in the long run.Everyone calm down, I only want to DJ at home.

It's what I use, I never have time to mix so I never learned how to do it proper tho
>>84500939I sort of wanted to avoid using a computer, and the small size of a digital controller would really annoy me. A full sized mixer and CDJs looks a lot more enjoyable to use, but any sort of CDJ that's USB compatible is way over 500€ each, which is why I researched and considered the 1000s. A USB cd burner is like 10€ off Amazon, and a bunch of re-writable CDs is probably another 10.
>>84500969what this guy posted >>84501007 is pretty good, I started with some really shitty stuff and it served me fine.the only stipulations I would have is that it has all the basic controls like tempo and eq controls (which all of them will have) and filters controls (which not all do but this one does). Also that the build quality is decent, which is pioneer are still a good company this probably will be. It's been a couple years since I did anything dj-related though so I'm not up on current trends.>>84501148I can totally understand not wanting to use a pc, can kill the vibe a bit and you will inevitably rely on visuals over beat matching by ear.You can definitely get digital mixers that are plenty big enough but they obviously cost a bit more and so you'd run into the same problem again.I've always seen the smallness of digital mixers as a pro as it makes them much easier to take places and never found small controls to be too much of a problem but obviously that's a personal thing.I'd probably say the 1000s are a good choice, never used them myself but if I remember correctly quite a few people I know have used them and praised them.
>84500901I wouldn't really bother with cdj1000s unless you _really_ want to waste lots of time burning all your tunes to CD.Though I suppose you could use them with timecoded CD's and an audio interface for Traktor.A pioneer DDJ SR/SB/SX controller +Serrato/Rekordbox/Traktor is fine to learn on.at home. If you want an all in one standalone, get a XDJ-RXand if you want standalone USB capable digital decks, the options areCDJ-850, 2000 or XDJ 350/700/1000, depending on your budget. Also Denon has been very agressivly dropping the price of their decks, but I dont know of anyone actually using them. Honestly I just downloaded mixxx for free and played around with that for a month learning the theory and djing with my mouse before I bought a controller.
>>84501007i haven't really thought about it, just wanted something to mix tunes at home. This looks small and maybe stupid, but i guess i want something similiar, i just want something to learn on.

>>84502019Ha yeah, I feel like 99% of students are like you, came to uni not having a clue about what they want, but at least you’re realising that you have no sense of direction and feel like you’d like to have one, which is the first step (and I mean, you’re already much more self-aware than a lot of students by just asking yourself the question). keep in mind that for some the answer comes naturally at the end of their term, though some choose a completely different path afterward, and others just settle for whatever job they find without thinking...Personally I left school when I was 16 (sort of got kicked out and spent 2 years smoking way too much weed and generally fucking my life up), I already had the dance music bug at the time and thought I’d find a music related job without studying somehow... lol. Then at 18 something clicked in my brain, I think it happened after a mind blowing night at the club, and all of a sudden I was dead set about what I wanted to do. And the next year I was a fresher lol. So yeah I feel like I’m lucky to have a clear goal even though I’m not sure if that’s my true calling. Though it’s maybe not something I’d recommend to anyone, I think these gaps years gave me the necessary time to think and mature.

this whole "don't support the sharks" thing is a bit old and worn; at present with the exception of two sellers nobody is trying to make a killing on this title on discogs. I know that people do gouge sometimes, but for better or worse this is a capitalist country and market demands are driving these prices. What exactly about physical music is it that inclines people to think there is something profoundly uncool about making a profit for your ingenuity and forethought. Savvy buyers can choose to ignore the gougers - they don't need to be publicly shamed and called out every time they list something at an inflated price. It is childish. Fwiw I have no horse in this race, I am not defending a host of listings I have available at exorbitant prices (I don't think I am currently listing anything for sale here). When I sell something that is truly rare and long gone I price it accordingly, when something is still available I price it to make my costs back and in accord with the condition.

oï oï, all producers in bleep hear me out : how much of you would be interested to take part in some kind of competition? like u know, setting a deadline, man send them tunes, and like those that sounds good get uploaded somewhere. the idea is to 1) make music quickly 2) allow urself to make cheeky tunes you wouldn't do otherwise (because you're not going to send ur best tunes to the bleep squad right) 3) free yourself of your expectations and ego, because i think tying your ego/public social persona to your music making is a common pitfall and can leave you a bit paralyzed, this comp would be a way to liberate yourself from that cause u would be making quick banging tunes for the laff and then send them anonymously.what do u think? https://youtu.be/2Huue0TPZIE

>>84520170Year 7 was more or less around the same time when I really liked UKG. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdE9xtI0M-IGrant Nelson is up there with Mike Millrain and a few others as the best UKG producer.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvjLpyp3g4Ihttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmSEJOP0Oxwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyNE4wBep_kAnd then when they produe together it's some next level shit.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3pte3uJJCQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjz6Nz9HGq0
>>8452034524hour ex - Together has to be my favourite garage tune of all time, could play it anywhere and it always goes off, Grant Nelson was the man for sure. He was top in Hardcore and Jungle as Wishdokta and top of Garage, amazing producer
>>84519728ye pretty much what i do lol, but not because of the way they write, but because most teachers are boring and/or can't teach for shit. though some of these bastards aren't sharing the slides online cause they want to keep their jobs lol (and they know full well no man will shows up if they do). man don't care, i just stay home and make bleeps
>>84520427Steve Gurley is another guy I can think of who went from top tier Jungle to top tier Garage.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMEfzDFMr9kBut Grant Nelson has been producing for fucking ages, he's an absolute legend.I can't pick a favourite UKG tune of all time since there's too many I like. If I was being completely honest instead of trying to not look like a pleb, this might be it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up2gtI9vJkgI think I first heard about UKG when my sister bought It's All About The Stragglers.>>84520461https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGfhWAbhruI

>>84520803>>84520427do you guys knows any half-step garage tune? i was at a party this summer where there was a lot of grimey, half-step RnB things getting played and couple of tunes got stuck in my head, i don't really know what genre this thing even is, like it got kind of a uk garage vibe but without the organ and keys (but with female vocals), and the structure is a RnB/grime-ish half-step affair.
>>84521084Got any examples? For a while literally every RnB single released in the UK had a UKG remix on the CD.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09E1R8Ka0U8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNowyOQQDSQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDbwfsFRXdMhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIK_Q0-a3dM
