Arcana Liturgia is incredible. Even though I prefer MCCXXXI over Ars Moriendi which I listened to again today, both albums have such a charming atmosphere that I haven't heard in anything else.

Tip.
Many new artists pop up almost weekly with new bandcamps and I want to recommend you all to make a demo tape or a self released tape to share with family and friends, trade for more tapes and to sell to collectors and fans. This will make you feel that your probably computer made music becomes more real and you will have a better chanse at getting reviews and responses. Even if most listening are digital through phones and computers many listeners want something physical to keep for themselves. I have put out a few releases that I just mailed to persons I knew could like the tapes and it are often well received.

Most important is to make the music becouse you need to. Trust in the project and keep it alive as long as you feel for it.

Get friends within the DS community through fb, keyboards, vk and bc. Be part of compilations and splits and help each other out. Often there is themed compilation and sometimes challenges and games. Be part of it if you think you would enjoy it.

Don't post your own stuff on discogs. That is cheating. It will turn up there as soon thinks your releases deserve it.

If you are inspired then go to work.
>>
>>84488560
I had never heard this one before. I enjoy it very much. Releases made with love and care and no worries about how it will be received are what it is all about.

Mythenmetz for the swamp.
Possibly one of Kobold's releases (HDK artist) for cave.
The Castle of Otranto's "Blood Feast" might well suit the cathedral.
Essoupi might fit somewhere but listen to it yourself and decide.
Die Festung should be on snowscape.
Some Lord Wind stuff might suit the tavern imo, but again listen yourself and decide as it might fit somewhere else.
Fata Morgana is shit imo, but hey it's your list.
And speaking of it being your list

My problem with the genre is that I find the quality of the average release really really low. Even the supposed best of all time DS albums don't seem that special. Granted, my exposure has been limited to a few albums buuut having enjoyed these kinds of songs as interludes on metal albums I was expecting a bit more.

I'll try to dig a bit more, would it be worth it looking at this year's stuff?

I stated the same thoughts in all the previous threads. DS is far from being a noticeable genre because it lacks great albums. It reminds me of vaporwave when it first appeared in 2012-2013. Everyone used to shit on it because the quality was extremely low and most of the albums were lame jokes made from easy samples. Then came 2015 and the masterpieces started to pop out like flowers. Now they're remembered as some of the greatest examples of experimental electronic music in this decade. My guess is that dungeon synth needs time to evolve just like vaporwave did.

Where could dungeon synth possibly go though? Becoming more intricate like Fief would simply push it towards neomedieval styles. I feel like the development will have to happen on the synth front.

>>84493396
I think it needs to be more inspired, that's all. Most of it is just a repetition of tropes.

Anon you have to realize that most of the people who make dungeon synth are sensitive in one way or another. Whether it's sensitivity to nature, or sensitivity in a womanly sense (like the order of the weeping willow guys), you have to know that it's a genre of emotion.

This is a valuable skill in the world of black magick, ideally you want to be able to see demons and not know if it's your imagination or really there, and then take it a step farther than that

>>84504601
It's only as dangerous as your own mind allows it to be. You have to take control of your thoughts and more importantly your emotions and the emotions.
An magick we have to train our imaginations. One way to do this is imaging object in front you until you see an aura and you're not sure if you're really seeing it or if your third eye has somehow over merged with and overpowered your physical eyes and you're seeing something that shouldn't be there for real, and then you take it farther and farther. I spent 3 hours doing this last night

Ds is about escapism. The antichristian aspect of blackmetal is revolting every value held by society. As Norway have a rather rooted protestant tradition the black metal ofcourof course turns to Satanism and antichristianity. In Sweden where there is not much mainstream Christianity the blackmetalist rather turns to other revolting ideas like fascism and violence. Today when the mainstream values held by society is inherently antichristian the true rebellion, as it always has been, is Christianity. You will understand when you get older.

You're shilling the BM ethos into DS, and thus are oversimplifying the genre to suit your perception of it. Whilst the antixian ethos was certainly a starting point due to the genre essentially beginning as an offshoot of black metal, Era I Mortiis had no spiritual leanings and was entirely based on his fanfiction he started w/ his Emperor lyrics. Read "Secrets of my Kingdom" and you'll get the whole story.

DS has many angles to it, from Lamentium's obvious Satanic leanings to HDK's D&D aesthetics, Pendragon's Arthurian style and even Catholicism as evidenced earlier in this thread by Dirge. No-one has come about and called dirge "Overground Synth" as a derogitory term in the same way Batushka and the like are "UnBlack Metal" because there's no issue there. Heck, even Dark Ages could be said to be based in Christian-tinged musical styles.

If anything, I'd say the over-arching aesthetic is that of medieval and fantasy soundscapes, which means the ethos can range as wildly as the time period or literary styles themselves. Regressionism is certainly something it shares with BM, but beyond that it's often down to personal taste.

To use myself as an example, I've got two DS projects. One is a goblin synth project based on Mystara wherein I'm releasing two albums a year chronicling adventures I've played or DM'd and themes which the setting stirs in me. My other project is an occult endeavour drawing upon my own spiritual path which has led me from being ordained as an Ipsissimus, a goði, and an Aghori sadhu in my time as well as "Crossing the Abyss" and developing my own Thanatological spirituality thereafter. The themes of each are separate, and the music sounds very different. They are both DS projects.

I said "Mortiis' writings during Emperor" not "the lyrics of Emperor". Also, Mortiis' writings aren't anti-xian as i already said. If you'd actually read "Secrets of my Kingdom" you'd know it was just a fantasy setting he created and ran with. Your "fact" is a flawed opinion.

You're not a real occultist if you can't even into the history of the stuff you're espousing.

The Order of the Dragon was a chivalric order founded in 1408 by the King of Hungary who became the Holy Roman Emperor. It was fashioned after the military orders of the Crusades, requiring its initiates to defend The Cross and fight the enemies of Christianity, in particular the Ottoman Empire.

Read a fucking book and not an angelfire website one day and you might learn something based in facts. Pic VERY related.
>>
Hey now you guys.

"According to Russian diplomat Fedor Kuritsyn, Dracula spent many years in the dungeon. He reportedly refused to convert to Catholicism despite King Matias' numerous offers which included freedom, reinstallation to power, and Matias' cousin as a bride. Vlad II was eventually set free by King Matias. The Russian chronicler suggested that Dracula had converted to Catholicism in return to his freedom. However, the latest studies show that Vlad II never betrayed his orthodoxy. King Matias released Dracula for practical reasons only."

Bathory was a vampiric magician and witch as well

I've been to Čachtice and talked to the actual local people about her. It's as likely she was the victim of local nobles wanting her land as it was that she was killing women for their blood. The guys who look after the place are on the fence about the matter, and so am I. However, the "witch" mentioned was Thurzó. If you're going to deny that, then you're denying the peasant's side of the story and thus might as well move to the "oppressed women" side of the argument.

I'm bored of arguing with some dyed in the wool occultist about stuff he "just knows". Come back to me when you've got something to offer about Bathory I don't already know and I might be interested.

Speaking of which, is there any Bathory-themed DS out there apart from Matlock's admittedly brilliant "Erzsébet" project?

The cassette deck is an advantage yes. First make the music that you want to be made. Is there a theme? Make a bandcamp and make a tape yourself. 10 or 20 copies or whatever. I will try something new for me. You know when you don't charge for bandcamp downloads you will get a mailing list to all those who download? I shall mail those back and tell them that they can order the tape and see if they take the bait. My plan is to make it uniquely available for those who shown interest beforehan. They are a few hundred. I think some of them would like it.

Tut tut.
