What's the TL;DR on Cirquesque?
>>33826516I'm going to try to give you an answer even though I haven't played or read it ever. Maybe I heard of it a few years ago.In a universe where the world runs on machines, to the point that you can mechanically change its structure, you play as a scientist who has to figure out something about water. Maybe an ocean ran out of water or something. You have to talk to a lot of people and climb buildings, maybe a metaphor for climbing a social ladder, and there probably are politics involved. It's complicated, nobody has information, you quite literally grind for every little bit of data you can get, and you need to piece things together as to how the world physically works before you can go talk to the right people and pressure (hah) them into restoring the ocean. Also it happens at night.
>>33826516It's too long, I didn't read it.
>>33826516It's the marvelous misadventures of Flapjack, but focused on the mysterious world in a more concrete sort of way and the main protagonist is from another world and wants to go back.
>>33826516The short version is you're a regular equestrian citizen that got teleported to pony water world. Your home is on a piece of land and you float around trying to find a place or person that can take you back home while also dealing with stuff happening at the moment and using the really weird equestrian method of survival called " making friends with people." You really like a blind earth mare who is a good hunter.
>>33825030I mean, you're not wrong.
>>33826516Leaf, pegasus from Equestria, randomnly gets transported in an AU water world that's far more brutal and with different cultural values he's not used to. Quest involves him trying to find a way back, and learning the mysterious of this world to find that answer. This is while learning to adapt and stop being naive and innocent with how much figthing he has to do in this new world, but while still holding on to his Equestria friendship values.

>>33856294>>33856268Fair enough. >>33856366I'm mostly getting some things off my chest, and I want to know how certain aspects of what I have planned will play out. I'll play this thing shortly, no context given>...how long has it been? You don't know, but it feels like you've been oversleeping. The sand doesn't feel to bad on your cheek, but you would rather preffer your body pillow above all else. Oh well, time to get up.>You open your eyes. This isn't your office desk, much less your bedroom, all you see around you is a seemingly endless sea. No mountains in the distance, no ships, nothing. There's not even waves, the ocean is completely still, only reflecting the clouds in the sky>The place you're currently standing is a small island, spacious enough to move around but not much else. There is a palm tree, a suitcase, and lot's of paperwork scattered around. Some papers are even lying in the water, not moving due to the lack of air currents and waves>Obviously there's something wrong in here. You remember...it's like remembering a dream, the last thing you saw was a increasingly bright yellow light, and...uh, ''something'' that looked like metal, flying towards you. That's...no good, it's like a writers block, but it's blocking your memories instead of your magic essay's!What's the first thing you intend to do?
>>33856412Check and the suitcase. Maybe the papers can clue us in on what we were doing before...whatever happened.
>>33856412Gather the papers and leave the wet ones to dry while we check the others.
>>33856412Does the suitcase belong to us? Do we recognize it?
>>33856430>>33856438>>33856458>You begin to roam around the island, gathering up whatever papers you can using your unicorn magic. You put the wet ones in the sunlight, not like there is much since the clouds are in the way. The rest, you pack them up and read them one by one...there's 6 of these pages, the first one reads-EXPERIMENT LOG-Subject: Yours truly, suffering from a recent knife wound to the legObject: A wooden doorResult: I was completely healed, the wound is no longer there, no signs or side effects reportedThere is a doodle of a stallion, showing his neck ''before and after''Subject: Yours truly, falling from the 18th floor of the north tower of Canterlot's CastleObject: The ground floorResult: I hit the floor, it stretched like rubber before I phased right through it. I did not suffer any damageSubject: Yours trulyObject: The object, attached to a cannonball aimed directly at meResult: Upon firing, the cannonball phased right through me. I lost both the object and the cannonball, I'll call...>It ends here. The rest of the pages are all numbers written in blood, the last page simply reads ''1 2 '' in the upper left. This does not belong to you, you are sure of it, because this is the relic you were looking for! This gives you all the more reason to keep looking>You put the papers on the sand and reach over the suitcase. It has a black and white yo-yo, and a black pearl necklace. It has nothing else, it seems like it fell from the sky and broke. Oh, there was also a skull underneath itWell, you didn't find the dimensional phaser...yet, what else would you like to do?
>>33856553We're missing something our character seems to know, such as the relic they were looking for. Is there really nothing special about the yoyo or necklace? Inspect the skull as well. Pretty sure you don't leave those in a suitcase.
>>33856553Mess around withe the yoyo and skull. We're stuck here until then. Nice palm tree though.
>>33856579>>33856695>You take a closer look to the artifacts in the suitcase. First, you grab the yo-yo. It is completly black, except for the white outlines and white string. You decide to play around it for a while, so you throw the yoyo and what do you know? Despite rolling, it stops before reaching the ground. You catch it again by raising your hoof.> Now you examine the necklace. It is also completely black, you can see the strings that keep the pearl together is white...other than the fact that these are the exact colours of your cutiemark, not much can be said about it. Wearing the necklace didn't seem to make a difference whatsoever>As for the skull, you move your head closer to it. You examine it, lift it, spin it around, but it just seems like someone met an unfortunate fate and turned this into his grave. However, it is also likely this was on a suitcase, it's small enough to fit with the rest of the items. So small in fact, maybe it belonged to a filly before...whatever. Again, it's effects, like the previous object, are a mistery to you>A yoyo, a necklace, a skull, bloody and mysterious papers...under any circumstances would these items look out of place to carry around in a suitcase, on an island in the middle of nowhere, with you stuck in the middle of an ocean without waves. Now think Blackstarr, if these look like relics, why must you need them? Why are they here? Perphaps it is the same as that one relic you needed the most...There is not much else to look at. The palm tree lacks coconuts, some of the papers are still wet, and the suitcase is for the most part filled with sand...what will you do?
>>33856724get the sand out of the suitcase, it might be hiding something.
>>33856724Was is this relic we need most, and is there anything noteworthy that it does or that we know about that might connect all these items? If nothing else, we could try reading all the rest of the papers once they dry up a bit.
>>33856724Suitcase filled with sand? Better to be thorough and leave nothing unchecked.
I fell asleep on my laptop>>33856774>You first read about what definetly reffers to The Contract of Many, an old piece of paper that allows it's reader to harmlessly phase through dimensions. You read about it whilst investigating artifacts for your doctorate in magic studies, as well as many more...well, it's good to know those studies are still being usefull after all those years>Right, so whoever this belonged to he was trying to figure out how this thing works...it's good to know you won't need to test it out yourself. If you do find it, seems like the guy lost it at some point. Whatever, you get up and look back at the 4 pages of wet paper, they're partially dry now.>Unfortunately it appears they were also written in blood, and some of the blood has been completely washed away, some of it just stains the pages and that's all. You only make out a signature at one page: ''Yours truly, North Star''...huh, that name does ring a bell, and for once, it's something you rather forget. It's from a ''companion'', who wanted to complete her mission so bad she betrayed you and took your stuff with her...at the very least you know she earned her lesson>>33856773>>33856815>Right, you can have these lovely memories another day, let's see if there's nothing else to check...the suitcase has a pen! Close examination reveals that it still has ink, and...it's a completely ordinary looking pen. You could probably use it to write on paper and not get lost...in whatever this place is>Ugh, the fact that all of this stuff belongs to her. Wait! Not even that, these artifacts are all yours! These are all part of the magical kit of none other than Bastard Blackstar, Supreme Trickster of Canterlot! You remember what these are now...uh...if you recall correctly>The yoyo allowed you to extend a spell further as long as you let it roll>The necklace you actually never figured out>And the skull was for mimicking othersWith these two tools combined, what will you do?
>>33857003>Illusionism requires a handfull of spells to work along propperly, and you yourself know quite a lot. You write them down so you won't end up forgetting them as well-Me-Me: The YoYo allows you to have a spell last longer, so long as it's ''rolling down''-Basic ilussion one: You cast a fake version of yourself, or someone else of your chosing. The Fools Skull (if the name's correct) helps you do it with more precise movements-Smokebomb and Flashbang: Exactly as they suggest, you can make these by yourself-Necklace: ???, it's effects are still unknownIf you want hints, you can ask me directly. Because I'm very bad at puzzle making and I ran out of characters
>>33857014Wear the necklace and casting a spell easy and safe for us to cast. Need to figure out what's so special about it.How long can we personally keep the yo-yo rolling as it is?
>>33857014Check the tree.
Nope, screw this, I have to sleep and my eyes are too weak. I'll continue tomorrow, maybe at 8:30 pm (CST). See ya
>>33857092Night then. Until next time.
>>33857014Nothing significant about the pen that we can check? It was lumped in with a bunch of artifacts, after all.
>>33857014If skull-powered illusions can mimic basic intelligence, we can use them to bypass a magical memory block. And we could use a company anyway. Try to discuss the relic with North Star's replica. Why was she trying to heal herself with a door? It sound unreasonable.
>>33857003lets pack up and see if there is anything around us?
>>33857066>The palm tree seems to lack coconuts at the moment. There are no coconuts lying at the base of its trunk, and the leaves are surprisingly green, maybe it's too at the moment>>33857684>It would seem like the pen you picked up still has ink in it. Spilling it would be such a waste, it's your favorite color after all!>>33857058>>33858272>Firstly, what this necklace does you don't really remember, but if it was in the same package as these three things then it very likely has something to do with your illusion spells. You also figure you could ask this directly to the last pony who was unfortunate enough to have them>With the skull in your hoof and the pearls resting on your neck, you close your eyes and begin to concentrate...a bat pony with a distinct crew cut, who you were partnering up with before she ran away with your artifacts and left you at the will of the Night Guards...one which you punished by permanently taking away her eye sight>It doesn't take long for the sands of the island to rise up and give shape to a cute little pony, not any taller than you. At this point, the skull which you were holding has a change of colors, just as it adopts a dark coal appearance, the sand turns into fur and hair, and the bat pony begins to breathe>''...hello?''. She looks around confused, first facing the ocean, then looking at you.>>33860098>You pack up the yoyo and the rest of the papers quickly. The mare jumps out of fear and looks at the direction of the suitcase. ''Who goes there?!''It would seem that either echolocation doesn't work on empty islands, or she is a dork. What do you do?
>>33860917Ask it basic questions. See if we can get anything from it, now that we made it. Quite a convincing illusion.

What should I do about titlecards if I can't draw? Do people avoid CYOA's without cool titlecards?
>>33861205Personally, no, I don't avoid CYOA's based on titlecards. If it has an interesting premise, and intro that captures interest, I'll play it. As long you find a decent image somewhere that represents cyoa well, it's good enough. A titlecard made for it is just a bonus.
>>33861083>>33861147''What...doth...life?''>'She angrily turns her head in your direction. ''Blackstar, you son of a bitch!''. She even attempts to tackle you! Without success, of course, it's really easy to predict her movements because she has no idea where she's going. Instead of pinning your body against the ground, she hits her head against the trunk of the palm tree>This is very humorous indeed, and you consider taunting her for the next hour or so but you don't really want to stay here that long. So many puns and annoying jokes to make but honestly, there's better stuff to do than to bully her. While you were thinking about all of this, she has been laying in the ground, rolling around in pain>>33861172''Oh relax, the painful part is over. It's funny to think that you still hate me despite being...not real''>She stops and gets it. A hoof rests on her mane, specifically, in the area that impacted the palm. ''Ugh, I am well aware of what I am, I told you, I damn well warned you about the importance of my mission and YET, YOU STILL...''Well, she seems agitated, but at the very least she is willing to speak. >>33861417''Still what? I gave you a warning an-''>''As did I! I was doing my job, you just wanted to play with your toys!''. She's likely referring to the artifacts, but to your defense, you wanted to give a noble use to these while her superiors...honestly who knows what they could've done with these things. ''All you care about is yourself!'', the way she talks makes it seem like she's spitting it out>>33861418You know realize, she's accusing you of ''playing with your toys'', when she did the exact same thing! ''What was your mission even? Play around with my stuff and tell your boss what they do? What were you even doing with The Contract in the first place?!''>''How did...?!'', she seems visibly confused, so much so that she has to sit down and rethink her words. ''I already told you, I was following my mission. I even got rid of the Contract, it is now lost who knows where safe from scum like you!''. So she definitely did that on purpose, and she took note of it. For what reason? Probably to please whoever she worked for...the Night Guard isn't that strict after all>The fact that this replica of North is so surreal, makes you wonder if you yourself are a replica as well...no, that wouldn't make sense. This place is obviously not real, you've never heard of it, but you have seen it in your most relaxed dreams. Most likely, a spell you did backfired and you ended up here instead of...uh, yeah. >''Well, not that I can do anything now...'', she looks around. It seems the clicking noises coming out of her mouth are her attempts of ecolocalization. ''I assume this is some lovely place of yours, what did you even invited me for?''Well, she has a point. What will you do?
>>33864216Climb the tree.
Just a small warning, if I stop replying, it very likely means I fell asleep>>33864247>The tree is as tall as two ponies from hooves to head. All of what you've seen has one way or another been either out of place or very mysterious, so maybe there is one thing you're missing at the top of it>''...I still don't know why we're here''. Neither do you, North noticed you were doing something and raised her head to watch you climb. Unfortunately, looking at your surroundings from the top reveals nothing you haven't seen before. Well, you now notice the water actually looks like a lake, as opposed to an ocean. ''...Are you even listening? Hello?''. Ugh, you could probably undo the illusion and cast another spell.
