Does /m/ like Heavy Gear at all?
Heretics, all of you!
>>17778540Needs more love.
>>17779287What it needs is a good game. Heavy Gear Assault was such a let down.
>>17779296Even the tone of the game was completely different to the previous two. Especially when compared to HG2.
>>17779301The designs were quite ugly as well. Esports is never a good idea.
>>17779351>EsportsFucking hated it since day one when it gone mainstream. My hate of it only grew stronger every second.
>>17779357The concept of "watch these people be really good at video games" is fine, I think. The pageantry that it's surrounded by is tedious at best.
>>17779366If one wants a good game that would be E-Sports, then don't make it E-Sports. SC Brood War is a great E-Sports game because it was not made with E-Sports in mind. Hence why people play it to this day and why SC2 wasn't popular in Korea. Sadly devs forget about this.
>>17779379We need a community Heavy Gear mod like how Living Legends is to MechWarrior. Also a strategy adaption of Heavy Gear would be nice.
>>17779401>strategyAs in a tactical turn-based or real-time tactical? Or RTS in general?
>>17779405Probably either Turn Based or RTT like MechCommander. RTS is probably too widescale.
>>17779414RTT would fit better. >Have a squad system based on X-Com Apocalypse>Command multiple squads with gears that have different loadouts and roles you custom-make for them>Utilize the environment and capabilities of both your pilots and their gears to achieve superiority over your enemies>Level up your pilots to make them even more deadlier and unlock better weapons and gear parts that you can use to modify existing ones and build new ones from scratch
>>17779537Sounds mouthwatering. We haven't had a mech based RTT in forever.
>>17779548Bonus:>Repeatable side-missions in form of either simulated battles (you get no money and parts, but small experience boosts), or taking part in local tournaments>The latter will give you massive boosts to experience, tons of money and guaranteed unique parts and weapons>However they are all high-risk, high-reward because your opponents will brutally use every mistake you do and kick you while you tripped and fell on the ground>It's a nightmare, but if you manage to win one you will feel like you can take on anything
>>17778540Yes. That said it's strange that Heavy Gear got a short lived TV series, and two videogames, and Jovian Chronicles pretty mech got nothing.
>>17779660That's because:a) All of those things you mentioned were fucking expensive and never translated to sales.andb) Jovian Chronicles is kind of in an awkward copyright place because it was original a sourcebook for RTalsorian's Mekton.
>>17779660I heard that Heavy Gear 2 was originally a Jovian Chronicles game. Thats why you have those zero-g space sections. Activision however wanted to play it safe and use the Heavy Gear IP instead.
I need more Heavy Gear artwork.
>>17779678>b) Jovian Chronicles is kind of in an awkward copyright place because it was original a sourcebook for RTalsorian's Mekton.Okay, that would do it.
what's going on here?
I have read around of using Dosbox and QEmu to run Heavy Gear II. Someone have attempted it?
>>17782424Try this:http://www.mediafire.com/file/djndl19fad7qaw6/Heavy_Gear_2.rar/fileIts my HG2 copy that I got working on Windows 10. The only thing that doesn't work are cutscenes. Works 100% on Win7.Both HG1 and HG2 don't run on dosbox without Win95 emulation. Which at that point you may as well use a virtualbox.
>>17782466Thank you senpai!
>>17778540I love Heavy Gear, specially the rpg books.
>>17782564Its a shame that there hasn't been a recent update to the RPG side of things. Too much work for DP9 i guess. With Heavy Gear Universe dead I don't know when we will get more RPG stuff in the future.
>>17782568Probably never.>>17782586Striders are cute, CUTE!
>>17779537Don't forget the EW layer. In general, you could run the super fiddly silhouette d6 rules easily with a computer to automate everything.
>>17782564I much prefer the RPG side to the video game side, mainly because HG has a really rich setting to explore.
>>17784195Speaking of the setting, how many novels are there? I know battletech has like 50+ books.
>>17784524I don't remember any novel, but plenty of little tidbits around the rpg books.

>>17785259Nothing more degenerate then the south. Bunch of heathens.
>>17785259Lul.Shut up zealot and go ride your rectangle shaped gear.
What even happened to that kickstarter?
>>17778540what the fuck
>>17785628Which one? The one from 2014?
There's this one piece of Heavy Gear art of a woman with a heavy rifle/cannon I think sitting in front of a King Cobra or such. Anyone got it?
>>17785771Was it official or fanart?
>>17786030Fuck I can still hear it after a decade.
>>17785771Wait. It's not this one. It's the actual cover to Operation Jungle Drums. But the more artwork of Miranda Petite and Julius, the better.
I'm suprised this thread got as much attention as it did. I was expecting it to die quicker.
>>17786913You forget /tg/ and /m/ have some overlap.
>>17786009Official, they had it on their old website and everything.>>17786508Yeah, same character, but not that pic.
>>17786913I still need to put together my kickstarter stuff and the metal stuff I bought back when they ran their first kickstarter. Got enough for a ton of armies.
>>17789406>why yes I am from the south, how could you tell?
I played the fuck out of HG2 back in the day. It's such a shame that it doesn't play nice with modern systems.
>>17790698Still waiting on a GOG release.
>>17790701If only, so far the only mech games on gog are shattered steel and recently cyberstorm 1.
>>17782466Are the cut scenes supposed to work on Win7 because I can't seem get them
>>17791456They worked for me on my win7 machine where I developed the package. The cutscene files don't seem to be corrupted so I believe the problem comes from HG2 itself. I'm still trying to work on a solution for getting the cutscenes to work on windows 10 but it maybe a problem regardless of windows. Maybe there's a missing codec that HG2 uses that I forgot to implement in the portable package. If I find the solution I'll update the files and you can try it again. I'm also working on a portable HG1 package and trying to get those to work on all modern windows systems.Tldr: It's not perfect.
>>17791456>>17792311After getting cutscenes to work on Windows 10 by some strange fate I think I have a suggestion for you to try. There's a certain component that the Heavy Gear 2 setup installs that allows cutscenes to work. Similar to how HG1 installs ActiveMovie to allow cutscenes to work. HG2 also installs a component of some kind to playback cutscenes with the intro and mission briefings. I'm not sure if the component is apart of DirectX 6 or not. My suggestion for you if you want the cutscenes to work is to mount an iso of HG2 and install it. then replace the files with the Mediafire copy that you have and see if that works. I'm currently working on getting a virtualbox copy of Windows 7 as a fresh copy to experiment on with Heavy Gear 2. Once that gets going and I can isolate the needed DX6 files for cutscene playback that I will inject into the portable copy of HG2. Then HG2 should be free of issues and can run on any version of Windows 7 and up.
>>17779296>>17779301I love Heavy Gear 2, if only we got HG3.
>>17793475Me too, HG1 is also quite underrated though it is weaker compared to HG2.
>>17792925Thanks senpai.I never managed to get HG2 to run well, but I had partial success with HG1. Dgvoodoo works pretty well with it, the only problem is that you get tons of graphical glitches with patch 1.2.Also, is that pic a miniature or a model? Are there model kits of HG?
>>17794860>Also, is that pic a miniature or a model? Are there model kits of HG?Yes, it's a master grade kodiak kit. There's only the one gear though. Its quite expensive but i've heard they're good build.
