Genocyber came out in 1994.

Can someone explain wtf happens in this scene? Why the fuck Doctor Reed has a zombie army (?) under his command? Just who are they? And why they slaughter everyone in the hospitall? This scene is so random it makes no sense.

Yeah, but anime never explains whether those henchmen are human, or cyborgs. In the manga Eleine takes mask off one of the female one, which reveals half-cyberneticiezed face and makes her go berserk. When Eleine asks 'what are they' they only tell her ''its better you not know''.

They just wanted Elaine back and to erase everyone who got in contact with her. That zombie army was most probably just cyborgs like the trio sent by the Kiryu group.

The point was to eliminate the detective who was investigating them. As a powerful dystopian Mega Corp they just went and butchered him and everyone else in the hospital with him, maybe as a general deterrent against the police force. They don’t give us any dialogue explaining the exact reasoning.

I mean that's basically all of genocyber.
>>
I watched this when I had a fever about an year or so ago. The fever dream that night was a thing of beauty. Not recommended. Thought MD Geist was better though.
>>
>>17774045
MD Geist is entertaining in a black comedy sort of way. Genocyber is just depressing.
>>
>>17774091
Why is Genocyber depresing? I thought it ended on a positive note

>Elaine makes friend
>Friend gets killed in a battle
>Has a nuclear REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and kills everyone
Basically Every friend Elaine makes dies.

That's why I preferred 4 and 5 over 2 and 3. 4 and 5 expanded out the setting and brought the scale up several notches, and gave us some new characters to focus on, 2 and 3 kind of just seemed like a less creative version of 1.

So there IS a manga.
I always liked Genocyber but always felt it to not be complete thing. As if I'm thrown in the middle of some bigger franchise and am supposed to know what the fuck is going on without any explanation.

That's why I always preferred MD Geist, even if it has lower animation quality. It's self-contained and doesn't feel like part of the bigger whole.

The thing is, Genocyber manga has little in common with anime, and the latter is only loosely based on the former. In the manga we only see it used once, but Genocyber is simply kind of a mechanical 'Tekno-suit' for Elaine, but in the OVA its some kind of biological humanoid-dinosaur monstrosity, and seems Overpowered af.

Anime for some reason swaps character designs of girl's father Dr Nguyen Morgan, with Kenneth reed. The storyline is also completely different in the Manga, Diana is not missing limbs (and has no irrational hatered for her sister) and Elaine is not mentally retarded.

In the Manga Nguyen Morgan is an independent researcher of psionic powers who gets kidnaped by masked henchmen (who are not his men like in the anime) of Kuryu. The story ends on a clifnager with only Elaine escaping the institute. 3 cyborgs also make an apperance, but they are not nearly as powerful as in the OVA, and do not make those ridicolous, imposible transformations.

Every OVA expept first is not based on the Manga at all. One interesting thing I've noticed, is how subtly anti-American are the second and third chapters. So Elaine is escorting a group of children in Ira..khem i mean 'Karain', and we see a group of Amer... eh I mean 'UN' attack choppers slaughtering a bunch of children.

Then we cut to American president explaining what looks like plans for ''Desert storm'' operation from 1991. Americans on board of their aircfart carriers are also constantly haunted by ghosts of murdered children.
