What does /m/ think of policenauts?
>>17601055it's neat but kinda overhyped over the decades
>>17601055s'pretty good, yeah.
>>17601069To be fair, people only really hype it because it's kojima and that it was referenced in the metal gear games.
>>17601055It's good and has some interesting ideas as to what an actual space colony would be like with all the downsides that come with them. Also Johnathan dodged the ultimate bullet at the end or maybe he was into that sort of thing
>>17601055Character designs were neat
>>17601055I have a terrible memory, other than remembering I played thru it with no breaks and really got into it which doesnt happen a lot with me. The translation came out for it the day I finished snatcher so I played them back to back
>>17601055Enjoyable. Better than Snatcher due to characterization and themes. Doesn't have the same base "coolness" style factor of Snatcher though
>>17601082It kinda loses its point amidst some of the ridiculous escalation that comes with it being Space Lethal Weapon.
>>17601155It doesn't have Gillian Seed and his amazing harem...that's why.
>>17601055Kojima is a terrible writer, who always finds a way to inject his skeevy shit into game. Some of the actual stuff in policenauts is cool, like the astronaut mechs.
>>17601082It is something of a 'fuck you Gundam'.Where instead of->living in space will transform us into the psychic master raceits more->In your whole life being frequently exposed to low gravity/weightlessness and cosmic radiation gives you highly increased chance of organ failure
>>17601055It killed both of the hot mommies. 0/10.
>>17601076They Meryl Silverburgh in Policenauts is way cooler than the Meryl from the metal gear series.
>>17601860>Kojima is a terrible writer, who always finds a way to inject his skeevy shit into game.Oh please, he's not Quentin Tarantino
>>17602112He's worse.I mean footfags are degenerates but at least wiggling the big toe made some sort of sense thematically.
>>17601055I think that I should take a day to boot up the emulator and play this game I've downloaded years ago.I even played "SNATCHER".Thank you for the picture btw, it's hard to find
>>17601380Jonathan Ingram is a bigger sex pest than Gillian Seed though.
>>17602451Is Kojima just living out his fantasies he's too repressed to express in real life?
>>17602469If Dead Stranding is any indication.
>>17602451Yeah but Seed wound up with a harem...Ingram gets nothing.
>>17602060Considering that this Meryl was the one that took down Zanzibarland, yeah..she's cooler. Shame about her choice of men though.
Game was underwhelming.Liked Snatcher a lot more.
>>17601055It's literally Lethal Weapon in space.
>>17603520Its still not as bad as marrying Jonny.
>>17604308Johnny and Dave kinda had some similarity...well, OK, Dave didn't have the bouts of diarrhea but they are both dorks.
>>17604335>>17603520It seems alot like blatant otaku pandering, to have the buff military chick fall for pathetic nerds with nicknames like 'Akiba' or who make godzilla models.
>>17601900AEUG ACE PILOT, FOUR VAGINAS?!
>>17604345>It seems alot like blatant otaku panderingyeah it is a Kojima game, you're right
>>17603516He gets a daughterfu, if you're into that sort of thing.
Dat theme manhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mx4RE3jrTs
>>17604913>Konami single theme in loop
>>17604934In fairness it became the Konami theme for a while specfically because people loved the Policenauts theme so much.
It's one of the more realistic takes I've found on living in a space colony. Though at least some of those problems would be fixed if they just built the city on the moon.
>>17604941It's like how Banpresto's theme is just R-1's theme because they like it so much?
>>17606024No because in that case the banpresto theme came first iirc.
>VR loli porn store right outside the protagonist's buildingIt's only a matter of time before Policenauts becomes our reality
>>17602469If you had ever played a Visual Novel you'd know all the protagonists act like that, even the non-eroge/dating ones like Snacher/Policenauts.
>>17604844That's every visual novel, anon.
>>17601055I wish it was longer. While it wasn't as good as Snatcher IMO, it is still definitely worth checking out. I was really hoping for a world ending scenario or big conspiracy but I still like how it turned out. System was the real villain all along . From one perspective, it can be seen as prototype of Metal Gear Solid series.
>>17606206So you're saying his writing of the Metal Gear series makes it a Visual Novel? Also Ingram just randomly gropes about every woman he encounters, without even a howdoyado.
>>17607437Not him but Policenauts is definitely a VN, or at the very least a point and click adventure game
>>17606045Was that supposed to be the writer condemning the society of his setting or getting off on having his desires readily available? Its japanese after all.
I liked it a lot, It has a really engrossing setting and has a really interesting take on the colony type setting. The power armor suits are also really cool too. It's kinda surprising knowing Katoki designed these yet he didn't work on later kojima projects.
>>17604941I always thought that was part of the original MGS music.
>>17608999No this came out 4 years earlier and that's why they used it. That's why MGS had footage from Policenauts in it. Remember, Policenauts was originally a PC release.
>>17609089I worked out that MGS was referencing something earlier but the musical cue slipped me by. Awesome, learn something new every day
>>17604941I thought Konami Theme was that jingle at the start of DDR and the Gradius OVAshttps://youtu.be/VNKTy6KyKVw
>>17609164>Gradius OVAsThose any good?
>>17609190they're okay enoughpretty average level of effort for a Based On The Hit Game ova series, nice enough designs, a little meh on the story, but it's based on a shooting game so what do you expectthey go1 Life Force/Salamander2 Gradius (as a prequel to 1)3 Gradius 2 Gofer's Ambition (as a sequel to 1)2 is based largely on finding out how it was Earth all along at the end of 1, so don't try chronological order.they're all on youtube, a few different uploads last I sawdon't think there's any particularly great copies
>>17609200Neat, I'll probably give them a shot when I'm in the mood for a dramatized SHMUP.
>>17609164The Konami theme several times over the years.
>>17609267changed several times*
>>17609257 yeah you'll probably find them to be an enjoyable watch if you're fond of the source material, otherwise a very average scifi ova from the late 80s (which isn't necessarily a bad thing either)
>>17601900>>17608979Wish game had piloting sections.>inb4 Zone of the Enders
