So given its over all tone, as well the the wealth of post ZZ content made since the novel, as well as the way its canon slightly clashes with current Gundam Zeitgeist how faithful do you think this adaption will be?

Will it be like Unicorn and take broad strokes but trim back some of the grim dark (the various rape and prostitution backgrounds of character as well as blatant racism on the Feds part) as well as repurposed some characters here and then to preserve the spirit of the story arc if not follow them to the letter.
Or do you think it'll have a lot of retcons and unseen background events to justify staying closer to the novel (ACTUALLY Quess died like THIS, and so on)
or do t you think it'll be somewhere in between?

I mean some element seem far too well known to just yank out, like some of Mufti/Mafty (hey well be getting an official version of that) more brutal attacks on the federation, the rather uncomfortable parallels to modern day terrorist organizations ala bombing and declarative videos, and of course the infamous ending.
but then the tne of HF seems so at odds with the more hopeful nature of the other more recent Mid UC project like Narrative and Unicorn
>>
>>17467194
I've never actually read HF past a short chapter that was TL'd back in the day, but from what I've heard about it it's a much more pessimistic UC story that shows the darker side of the federation (much like Zeta, but I guess with a bit of edge to it).
If they do faithfully adapt it then it would serve as a hard contrast to Unicorn, but that kind of duality could be interesting when you view that portion of the UC timeline.
I really hope they keep that tone because for a while the UC has been very childish and naive with its approach to conflicts and if HF offers a more nuanced take I'm all there for it.

Bad:
-shitty in-house CG mecha
-shitty character design
-story will be heavily altered. Really doubt they will retain the bonafide bloodthirsty terrorist Hathaway was in the novel who didn't care about killing innocents, Gigi won't be a high class escort and the ending will surely be completely different. Also Unicorn tie-ins for sure, I can see Minerva backing Mafty in this.

Good:
-finally animated, one way or another so that it can get properly into SRW and other games.
-Gustav Carl and Messer variants are guaranteed
-Penelope will probably use the Argos unit for the final battle
-Some completely new mech designs, expect something based on the Ankusha and Loto at least.

This will be new thing to rage here
>>
>>17467256
>Unicorn tie-ins for sure
This is probably going to be the worst part. You just know Fukui is going to take a big fat shit on the source material to promote Unicorn.
>>
>>17467260
in the novel Mafty has a mysterious female backer that's hinted to be an older Minerva Zabi.

that's totally happening in the HF animation, also note the anime for whatever reason will happen in UC 104 instead of the 105 from the novel.

The novel is full of heavy stuff, just like the Unicorn novel was(to a lesser extent) so expect the same treatment
>>
>>17467267
Unicorn was 7 books 7 movies, Hathaway is 1 book 3 movies. There's hope
>>
>>17467267
That's one thing, but it'll be a whole other story when Banana shows up to tell them about believing in the possibility.
>>
>>17467271
nope

Unicorn novel was 10 books(novel was cancelled BTW so it got a rushed shitty ending), then a 6 OVA anime that got an additional extended OVA so it could somehow end(still was shit planning and still was a shitty ending)

HF novel was 3 books, and is getting 3 movies

The 1st HF novel book is the longest one so if they want to end the 1st movie with the Xi's debut VS Penelope it's probably going to get cut
>>
>>17467274
Banagher retardation will be left to the proper Unicorn sequel, Fukui isn't writing the HF anime

Narrative was full Unicorn retardation, HF will be its own thing

Never disregard Executive Meddling, anon.

One prediction I've made, before the OVA adaption was announced, was that they will replace the one off protagonists Lain and Kenneth with Banagher and Riddhe. I'm hoping that's not the case, but I feel like this is something Sunrise would do at this point.

Also more Mineva and Neo-Zeon bullshit will be added. They may not take center stage but there will be a small arc/cameo of them either aiding or fighting against Mufti.

The most basic structure of Hathaway's Flash will remain. Hathaway will nap the Xi and Mufti will do some terrorist shit, and some Feds will pursue them. Hathaway will get captured and there will be a scene at the end where Bright will realize he ordered the execution of his Son. But the crews of each main Ship, the arc structures, and the locations are all likely subject to change. From the little I actually know of the plot the final fight takes place on Earth, that's not typical for a U.C title, so I wouldn't be surprised if it ends with a space battle that involves extra NEWTYPE PSYCUMMY OVERLOAD, and some NEO-NEO-ZEONG MK III "NIGHTINGALE" FOR REAL THIS TIME mobile armor. Also when it comes to Quess, they will just write it off as her haunting him with "WHY DIDNT YOU SAVE ME" rather then "WHY DID YOU KILL ME." Also expect even more dead Newtype ghosts coming back to aid in the final battle.

The one thing I'm worried about/looking forward to, is how well they do the CGI. This is a first, and I'm sure they're throwing a big fucking budget at the animation team. If the CGI is done well it will obviously raise the bar for CGI in the anime industry. Tomino recently said in an interview that he saw Into the Spiderverse, and that he wishes Japan would do better as a reaction to it. I hope the team working on Hathaway's Flash take this as motivation to take shit to the next level... Or it could just end up looking really weird and lazy, then Hathaway's Flash will end up a flop.

I want a Haman mecha musume
>>
>>17467442
At most they will show Minerva aiding Mafty, Fukui isn't involved in this
>>
>>17467256
>Gigi won't be a high class escort
not a surprise, sexual abuse, prostitution and sex over all was toned down a lot in Unicorn
granted it was a little inturbo drive what ith the "i was sold into child prostitution and had my uterus removed in a session of meatball sugery so i wouldn't bother the madam with pregnancy" or "i and my mother were sexually abused by Feddies because we were poor Zeon citizens after the war" but all the same
>>
Fuck this is going to be pure soi isn't it bros
>>
>>17467256
>Really doubt they will retain the bonafide bloodthirsty terrorist Hathaway was in the novel who didn't care about killing innocents
not surprised, when the novel was made that kind of thing was not like, shit that could happen next week in the minds of the audience
that said a big theme in the novel is "how different is the Federation to these heartless terrorists" and "what is a good motivation to do the thing they do? revenge, orders, a want to protect?"
so not adhering to the broad story kills that pretty hard
>>
Hathaway will just attack military targets but there will be unwanted indirect damage to civilians instead of him bombing a whole hotel full of people to just kill some feddies
>>
>>17467346
cause it takes it to the nth degree and one of the big themes is how justified his motivations are
one of the lat things that happens in the book is Hathaway as a newtype ghost meets Quess and she tell his she never really cared about him one way or the other and her death, caused by him or not, was just a consequence of war.
>>
>>17467442
>Tomino recently said in an interview that he saw Into the Spiderverse, and that he wishes Japan would do better as a reaction to it.
Spiderverse should be a benchmark of CG animation as a whole not just for Japan. it really showed that it can stand toe to toe with the best traditionally animaded stuff.
having said that i dont know if we'll get anything more than "good" for this. as it an adaptiom, granted of a well loved fan favorite, but still just putting visuals to an existing story.
i mean it took a Toriama penned feature film based on a international fan favorite villian to get That-Good-Shit CG for Dragon Ball of all things
>>
>>17467346
>murderer
CCA is so badly paced in its first section I didn't even care about her and her death. She's like Amuro's 10th love interest, with no personality besides dreamy comfy eyes, and he STILL dreams about Lalah
>>
>>17468137
dont get me wrong, i have a lot of affection for CCA, but jesu that movie could use a whole nother movie in its first half to actually set shit up

can't they use that high-tech cel simulation crap to make it look good?
>>

it will be as bad the CG in Geass Resurrection, I mean there was no way it wouldn't be CG mechas but at least they should have gotten Orange or another better studio thant their in-house DID

>>17470581
I didn't see a lot of CG in resurrection, I only remember when they used it on the Lancelot and Gurren tag team fight
In general Resurrection looked pretty great so if they could hit that level of quality that'd be good enough
>>
>>17471115
the mecha CG in Resurrection had low frame rate and no sense of weight, the Akito CG was better
>>
>>17470562
Huh? Wtf are you talking about? Are you confusing me for someone else?
>>
>>17471124
Wait, what?
now, I liked Akito but you could barely tell at all that they were using CGI in Resurrection whereas it was super obvious in Akito. I don't know what you mean by "no sense of weight" either.
>>
>>17470581
>it will be as bad the CG in Geass Resurrection
It looks much better in theater than in the camrip, I'll tell you.

They already showed up in Genesis, so good to know you're wrong.

He's basically an anti-villain that just slowly becomes a straight up villain who gets the most simultaneously satisfying and heartbreaking comeuppance possible.
>>
>>17467442
>Lain and Kenneth
replaced
That's retarded
>>
>>17467256
Gigi wasn't an escort but the mistress of a rich guy and she was actually a seer that helped Kenneth win, the novel never says if she's a newtype or something else.

Kenneth considered Hathaway a friend so he tried to make the execution unknown to Bright but some feddie asshole leaked the info.

After this Kenneth resigns from the Federation and leaves to Japan with Gigi wanting to create an organization to accomodate newtypes like Hathaway which in some media turns out to be the Crossbone Vanguard
>>
>>17471276
>They already showed up in Genesis,
?????
>>
>>17467267
>Female backer
There were no mentions of that in the novel, stop making shit up. The only known backer was Quake Salver. He was a high level EF official with AE connections under a pseudonym. Mufti is highly decentralized and compartmentalized organization. We don't even get to know the exact reason from the novel why Quake Salver supported Hathaway's cell, not even Hathaway himself knew. He was the leader simply because of his piloting skill and his fame from shooting down an MA on his first sortie in CCA. There is a chance Hathaway was just being used as a pawn ultimately
>>
>>17471522
*Quack Salver. I didn't even notice the autocorrect
>>
>>17471360
>After this Kenneth resigns from the Federation and leaves to Japan with Gigi wanting to create an organization to accomodate newtypes like Hathaway which in some media turns out to be the Crossbone Vanguard
well that didn't turn out great
at least not for a while, and even then the highest they aspired was dogooder pirates

When will they make an anime of the superior side material: Blue Destiny?
>>
>>17471630
Pretty much this. The story and characters of BD are much more interesting than what we got in Unicorn. Why Bandai hasn't made a BD OVA, considering how they also released new kits, I dunno.
>>
>>17471291
It's also Sunrise.

that said the whole "EXAM works bu running on an OS made by a disembodied Newtype's soul" still feels weird and out of place in gundam

>>17472231
EXAM is dumb as hell I don't feel the story is particularly great either

Whilst there aren't exactly burgeoning numbers of good sidestories as sources, there at least enough that are more interesting than that.

I really wish we could move beyond 0079 for animated sidestories, but if we must go back then I'd rather we went to 0081.
>>
>>17472231
Considering that one of the most memorable abilities of the Biosensor is to power up the mobile suit using dead souls, EXAM actually seems pretty tame in comparison.
>>
>>17472266
Pretty sure there is a difference between building a OS around such unexpected behaviour as opposed to Zeta's power-up which is entirely unintentional and probably controllable. It's the same difference with NTD blocking colony laser on a whim compared to the Axis Shock which was an unintentional miraculous event. These side stories writers don't understand the appeal of one and not the other is the mystery factor and how it plays into the theme of Newtypes unfound potential.
