New info from Famitsu:

>The story progresses by moving to specific areas and speaking to specific characters to trigger events. Locations and characters that trigger special conversations and events are indicated by icons.
>Players can use a steam-powered portable terminal called a Smatron, an evolution of the Mobile Kinematron, to do things like contact other characters and display the maps
>While 10 years have passed since the previous title, the “steam civilization” and “Taisho era romance” settings have not changed. The biggest change from the past is that the Combat Revues, which once existed behind the scenes, are now widely known.
>The Great Combat Revue World War is like a global sports festival. In Project Sakura Wars, it is the third one to be held. It is where the Combat Revues from all over the world gather in the Imperial capital and compete in tournament format. However, the tournament that should have been peaceful takes a serious turn…
>A “Trust Level” exists between you and the members of the Imperial Combat Revue: Floral Division. The fluctuation in Trust Level affects your battle parameters, as well as the enables the use of cooperative skills. There are also individual endings with each member. The basic framework, such as “Next” notices, has not changed.
>Each country’s Combat Reveue and the Imperial Theater staff also appear. The casting will surprise everyone.
>Anime movies produced by Sanzigen that total about 40-plus minutes are being prepared. All other scenes are 3D.
>Mech design is again being handled by Mika Akitaka.
There are 70 to 80 songs. We’re aiming for the most songs in the series. We’re preparing a number of songs from those where everyone sings to solos. Whether the Combat Revues of each country have songs is a secret.

Old characters returning and also the DS game is canon

>Speaking of the main heroines of Sakura Wars, they wear kimono and wield swords. That was the combination that first came to the mind of character designer Tite Kubo. He is not only the character designer, but also the designer of each character’s sword. He has also proposed other ideas.
>Masashi Kudou, who works on the anime version of Bleach, is responsible for the visual settings when making 3D models. Tite Kubo vouched for him, saying, “If anyone can do it, it’s Masashi Kudou.”
>Tite Kubo works fast. When I came back to the office after our meeting, he already drew up a rough draft. His speed is incredible.
>Script writer Takaaki Suzuki, who is known for Girls and Panzer, has offered historical accuracy suggestions.
>We still have many secret weapons (within the staff).
>>
>>17369890
>Protagonist Seijuurou Kamiyama is a flexible character who can become the lover or the comedian depending on the player’s choices. He is an amusing guy. Expect some “scenes” happen in front of the shower room, similar to past titles.
>Sakura is a little clumsy. Hatsuhou is a different type compared to Kanna. There is a meaning behind Azami’s clothes. Claris has a sharp tongue and sometimes scolds others with phrases like, ‘Please go to hell!’ She is recommended to those want to be scolded by her voice actor Saori Hayami.
>Development is 40 to 50 percent complete. Basic parts such as character and background modeling, scenario, and music are complete. Voice recording is also nearing the final stages, and after that is the stage where we put it all together as a game.
>The plan is to keep our winter release (in Japan). We want to share more news as quickly as possible.
>>
The more I read about New Sakura Wars, the more I think it's a far more competent Valkyria Azure Revolution and with actual reason this time. I'll bust my gut if Kubo inserts Shinkai and Bankai in the katana functions though.

>From Spirit Armor to Spirit Combat Machine*

>In the battle parts, Kamiyama and the heroines will board and fight using steam-powered humanoid weapons that can only be piloted by those who possess strong spirit power. In this installment, aside from the existing 'Spirit Armor', a new generation model called 'Spirit Combat Machine' will be introduced. As higher power outputs for spirit mechanisms have been made possible, in the last 10 years following the Great Kouma War it has been adopted for use by many countries. Even in the Imperial Combat Revue, it is used by everyone excepting Sakura.

*Actually written 霊子戦闘機(Spirit Particle Combat Machine). 戦闘機 is actually used for fighter aircraft in japanese.

Unit names:
top> Spirit Combat Machine - Mugen (same as 'infinity' or 'limitless'
bottom> Spirit Armor - Type-3 Koubu

The text beneath the pictures are a bit too small for me right now.

Getting over the small text with a bit more guesswork and OCR.

>Mugen Spirit Combat Machine
>The first Spirit Combat Machine mass-produced by Kanzaki Heavy Industries. Developed based on the Type-3 Koubu Spirit Armor, it was created as an official Spirit Combat Machine. Possessing few quirks and an easily-handled frame it plays an active role as the Imperial Combat Revue Floral Division's main force.

>Type-3 Koubu Spirit Armor
>A Spirit Armor developed by Kanzaki Heavy Industries, using the 'Koubu Type-2' that was the main force in [Sakura Taisen 4] as base. While its overall combat power is inferior to Spirit Combat Machines, it served as the foundation for the Mugen Spirit Combat Machine to be built on.

Dug up the games, plan on replaying the whole series. Can't find my copy of 2, but I only had the PC and Saturn versions anyway and PC probably doesn't work on current OS and my Saturn broke over a decade ago so I'll probably get the 1+2 download on my Vita TV.

With the backstory, anyone get the feeling that the plot twist for this game is that the demons had taken over the world and that the tournament for the new Combat Revues is basically their way of controlling the global populace into preventing them from asking too much questions and that the members of the original Combat Revues became resistance fighters whom the new characters will assume to be terrorists at first?

I meant the whole world order as we're told. I mean, the Tokyo, New York, and Paris Combat Revues being attacked and that five or ten years later, we have more Combat Revues around the world and a tournament for these Revues. Sounds very suspicious to me?

Before anyone says it, I know we might get Sumire back. But I get the feeling her placement as commander of the New Tokyo Combat Revue might have her plot something and it may tie to what happened to the original three Combat Revues.
>>
>>17384678
I'd say Sumire's a shoo-in returning character, no point teasing she's back, and then proceed to have her be Ms. Not-Appearing-In-This-Game, that would piss the ever living fuck out of her fans.

I guess I'll consider trying 5 then. First I decided to check out 4 since it's supposed to be really short. I keep seeing people mention that it was unfinished.
>>
>>17386633
4 isn't unfinished, it's just what it is. Every single girl from 1-3 has a route, so it's wide but shallow if you know what I mean. One playthrough is ridiculously short, but the game is somewhat long if you multiply that by all the routes.

That being said all the routes still have the same enemies and fights and general story so it's still pretty half-assed.

It's not a bad game but it doesn't deserve to be a numbered title.

Are you referring to Evolution? That’s because it wasn’t very good. Everything was way too dark and it was a visual mess. People just got butt hurt that Sega turned down a JSR thing, but if you really rewatch the video, you can see that it’s not what should happen for a reboot/sequel.

Naganuma recently said on Twitter that a lot of the JSR support is worldwide, but not as much in Japan specifically. And since Sega of Japan are some of the most incompetent folks in the industry who can’t think things through for even a second, I doubt we’ll see anything major for a while.

Sonic Mania was made by a glorified western indie dev team and it's the best Sonic game in over 20 years. The last two Monster Boy games were also made by western teams. In fact, Streets of Rage 4's devs were the guys behind the Dragon's Trap remake.

MEANWHILE AT SEGA

The first two Panzer Dragoon games, Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon 2 Zwei, are being remade by Polish publisher Forever Entertainment, according to an official announcement from the company. The first of those products, titled Panzer Dragoon: Remake, is expected to arrive sometime in 2019. Forever Entertainment’s announcement calls the games “refreshed version[s]” of the Panzer Dragoon games. The company promises “completely new graphics compatible with today’s standards and several modifications of the game, making it more attractive to modern players, while remaining faithful to the original in terms of story.”

Most people are unaware this is a series in which you get shot from a gigantic slingshot hidden under theater revue in new york city in order to attack a giant robot atop the lady liberty in your steam/spirit powered mech with cute girls that perform Takarazuka plays.

They automatically assume its sega's version of fire emblem after looking through wikipedia once.

Previously Spirit Armors were pretty limited production I think ? The other Combat Revues collaborated with Japan for their better expertise to establish their own. America's STARs definitely went for a new level though.

Anyway, despite the idea that only a limited about of people can use the spirit tech it seems that the Mugen is a mass-production unit(a fraction of the world population is still large after all). Paradigms probably changed a bit and the Kanzaki probably don't want to mess too much on the first of a new gen unit and get the fundamentals right first. Not to mention that the Imperial Combat Revue is currently at a decline.

>>
I wonder why these threads are always ridden with censorship scare and /v/ tier politics talk. Does SEGA have a bad track record with censored games or something?

Two reasons: First, /pol/tards love Japan cause they think it's a working ethnostate. Second, Kozaki-era Fire Emblems started a massive weeb uprising about translation inconsistencies and censorship in JRPGs and similar niche Japanese games.

>Does SEGA have a bad track record with censored games or something?
No, but people think today's political climate, as well as shit like Sony's recent crackdown on sexual content in weeb games, are conducive to the game's translation and content getting butchered by censorship.
>>
>>17429536
No, but Sony is adopting a more "female-friendly" stance in the games they carry on the PS4. That's why hearing that Sakura Taisen is PS4 exclusive makes people think it'll be stripped of what little fanservice it has.

They had to do something different up at that point since all of Sega Overworks protags were pure chads
>>
>>17430846
It was a trend at the time, the Galaxy Angel sequel/reboot also did the same thing. First game trilogy's protagonist was basically a combination of Yang Wenli and Captain Tylor, the sequel/reboot trilogy protagonist was a generic as fuck "oh I'm not used to girls" timid pussy harem protagonist who was literally the same character as Taiga.

You are 100000% right, and Kanna can fuck me btw. But since this seems to be a throwaway otome spin off, a good character designer would have probably been too expensive.
I'd kill for Fujishima to draw a male troupe, especially after seeing Tales of guys.
In fact, I think it was looking at this pic of Yuri that made me want a male Sakura Taisen more than ever.

I usually hate otome games but if ST had a game for girls written and made by the same staff as the games, with good art and music... I'd buy ten copies and play it in Japanese with no translation by hand.

Oddly enough, it turns out that it works just fine as long as you start the Dreamcast without the VGA cable plugged in, wait for the
game to start loading, and then plug the VGA cable in.

Remake 1 is better though.

Also if you want to play original 1/2 in HD there's the PSP version (works on Vita and Vita TV too).

You just have to collect one (or more) of the scoring combinations before she does. And you also have to outscore her by ten points within three rounds. If the shuffle is entirely unlucky, she can get one of the two-card combinations on her first turn and end the round.

New interview with Nagoshi

>Scenarist Jiro Ishii, the game’s team and Nagoshi decided on what to show in the trailer. The development team also wanted to release the trailer sooner, before the end of 2018, but Nagoshi ended up deciding against it. This explains why back in November he stated we’d see the game soon, but we didn’t until March.

>Toshihiro Nagoshi also spoke about what stirred the Sakura Taisen fan community: the fact that Sumire’s name appears in the trailer. While he didn’t confirm yet if we’ll actually see her in the game, Nagoshi admitted that he doesn’t know much about Sakura Taisen lore. So he didn’t realize having “Imperial Theatre General Director: Kanzaki Sumire” show up in the trailer would turn into such a huge deal. , They weren’t supposed to reveal that now, and he’s the only one to blame. Project Sakura Wars‘ first story pitch stated that the old Combat Revues of Tokyo, Paris and New York, disappeared ten years ago after a cataclysm. Because of that, a lot of fans saw that Sumire hint as “oh, at least Sumire is still there” and believed Sega put her name in the trailer on purpose, but they didn’t.

>Nagoshi also stated that we’ve only seen like 20% of the interesting bits of Project Sakura Wars. Sega will reveal much more progressively, so we should look forward to it. He strongly wishes for the game to be a huge success, and he’s doing everything he can for it to happen.

>Lastly, Toshihiro Nagoshi stated that Project Sakura Wars has a much higher “real-time’ feeling that past games, but didn’t elaborate. Personally speaking, I think he means how the game now has 3D fully explorable areas and all dialogues being in 3D. He could also mean that the battle system will have real-time elements, as in my opinion, it’ll be very similar to Valkyria Chronicles 4‘s battle system.

-using Hedgehog engine (Sonic games)

-event scene made using know-how from Yakuza games

-combat system is easier than previous games to accommodate new players

-70~90 songs. biggest in the series

It shouldn't be all that concerning. If Sumire wasn't the manager, they probably wouldn't fake up a barely-visible poster in the background saying she was and then accidentally show it and then say they weren't supposed to show that yet. It has other members of the 1940 troupe on the poster so someone clearly drew it for this game, not just a random placeholder image they had laying around.

Nagoshi has fuck all to do with the old or new Sakura Wars games. He's the creator of the Yakuza series and the company's CCO. he oversees every game simply to maintain general quality standards to make sure that it would please fans of the series not as a fan.
Nagoshi is based as fuck and probably the best thing to happen to SEGA in decades.

That should be Koubu Nishiki(Type-2) in ST4.
ST5 also had Ratchet's Eisenkleid.

The Koubu just mostly became more personalized like the Koubu-Fs were in 3. The Jinbu however became super customized to the point where you'd think they might be more advanced than anything in ST3 and 4.

Actually, while I don't see any photo gallery or anything with every mecha in the series sitting in an easy-to-see table, one way to see every mech in action is via videos people have made of every super in the game.

I really hope they resume the lavish live show/theatre like show that they did with the original cast.

I remember them winging the first few shows before slowly realising live theatre is hard work, and after that slowly having longer and longer practice and rehearsals, sometimes taking a month and a half

It's weird how great Sumire is as a heroine, if you're actually dating her. Like, she's kind of an alpha bitch, but there's something really appealing about that. I suppose it's the whole taming of the shrew thing.

I still think Erica is best girl, though.

>>17451531
They were still Koubu Kais I believe, the Hanagumi still used them through ST3's time period. Though I think the ones in ST3 might have looked a bit more updated and the ones in the movie looked closer to their ST2 incarnations?

I haven't seen the movie in years though.
