Ok so let's think, Dix neuf and Buster machine 7 had 2 degerancy generators in total, let's not forget that Dix neuf got his generator back because of one of Diebuster parts, here's the question, how tf did Nono and Lal'c beat the space monster with 2 generators when Diebuster had thousands of generators?
>>
>>17312436
I don't think the buster machine swarms had degeneracy reactors. And Nono did all the work, she just wasn't motivated enough to do it before because she thought everyone hated her. Also, Buster machines in Diebuster (except for Nono) are weak as shit compared to Gunbuster, they lost the blueprints to make the good mecha

Better than Gunbuster.

Because of guts and effort, anon. It's like you don't understand how super robots work.
>>
>>17312436

Its not the number of generators its how you use them.

Nono was god-like reality warper, but the ability was linked to her psychological health. When she felt invincible, she was invincible. When she hated herself, she was a jobber.

Unrelated question, but why did they even make more buster machines past 3? Weren't they for fighting the space kaiju that they wiped out with 3? I know there were the fake ones that were part of 7 but that required them to make more for that problem to even arise

Gunbuster: The Next Generation covers that. Buster Machines 4, 5, and 6 combine to create Great Gunbuster, a machine built to destroy the Creator of all the Space Monsters. Buster Machine 7 is then built to fence in the Sol System.

One thing to note, while Buster Machine 19 (Dix-Neuf) is about two thousand years old during the events of Diebuster, we get to see the latest Buster Machine created, numbered Buster Machine 90. Suffice it to say, production ramped up dramatically as humanity got more isolationist.

I know at one point we got scans of Next Generation but did anyone ever get around to translating it?

Are there any pics of Great Gunbuster? Also, why did humanitt fence itself in and lose all tech?

Volume one is translated but not typeset. Around August last year I told /m/ that I would typeset it but real life and the fact I'm a lazy bastard got in the way. I will get around to this one day still I hope but today is not that day. Maybe later this year I'll knuckle down and finish it - if I can get the other guy back on board after my failure anyway.

That said, here's all the translated scans from Next Generation, it's basically just the prologue that sets the unfinished story up. Apologies for the english; translation is harder than it sounds.

As I remember it this was the first scan I had to actually put some effort into cleaning up a bit because Jung's hair wove into the Japanese Characters. Her hair on the right side is entirely redrawn using my noob technique.

Wasn't the implication that the STMC had been the universe's white blood cells, and by killing them off humanity was now being turned into their replacements, which is why people had regressed and started gaining Topless powers? Or am I mistaken?

And on that bombshell it's the end of the prologue.

Thoughts on this manga from the translation I've read: some of the things which people used to make fun of in the pre-translation era (Jung becoming president for example) make more sense in context, e.g. Jung is merely the figurehead of the revolution, she doesn't actually get voted into power to make executive decisions or anything.

Some things remain stupid though - like why are there Noriko and Kazumi clones?

When you said the manga had stupid shit I thought you were referring to the framed picture under the shirt.
>>
>>17321785
I wish that was the end of it.

Luckily I don't think these clones ever actually show up again - they just exist to pilot Jung's fake Gunbuster while she does president things.
>>
>>17321796
That almost makes it worse.

And if the Terran Empire "abandoned computers", how the hell are they still flying their giant robots and spaceships? This seems like a manga we might actually be better off not reading, because so far it's a lot dumber than anything in Diebuster and a bad explanation can be worse than no explanation.
>>
>>
>>17321820
The idea is basically that the Terran Empire (which is to say the bits of humanity still clustered around Earth) abandoned progress out of arrogance or laziness or both; hence why they try to assert their control over the newly returned core assault fleet which is the single most dominant military power in the Galaxy at the time because of how much focus was put into it 200 years ago.

The Core Assault Fleet rebrands itself as the Galactic Federation and then assumes defacto control over the human population of the galaxy. As part of this they enforce an edict that Earth isn't allowed to try and learn any of the "old" technology from 200 years ago that the Eltreum has lying around. They do this to force the Terrans to fight the war they started without any advantages gained from the Fleet itself.

I know it says abandoned computers but I don't think that's meant to literally mean they gave up on computation - just that they stopped bothering trying to make scientific progress or even perhaps regressed to sub-Eltreum levels of technology.

Remember that this was actually written before Diebuster so I don't think it's actually seeking to explain anything about Diebuster per se. Just tell a story set in the time period after the end of Gunbuster but before Noriko and Kazumi get back to earth in 12,000 years. The reason it's interesting (to me anyway) is that it shows even back then some ideas were more or less solidified in the heads of whoever controlled the IP.

I barely know more than you though.

Actually this might not be true after all, should probably ignore my speculations.

kek

It was implied that Space Kaiju were the final step in evolution, and humanity was starting to evolve in that direction. It had nothing to do with the death of the SK, pretty sure there were still a bunch left
