Why is there so little anime featuring kaiju? I can think of a handful of 70s super robot shows and their re-hashes and a few weird ones in the 90s like Betterman, Neo Ranga, and NGE. Am I just missing a bunch of sick ass kaiju anime or does Toho have the monopoly on kaiju?

Dude, ever heard of MONSTER OF THE WEEK? Pretty every MotW is a kaiju. Given that just about Super Robot show ever is a MotW show, there have been about a gajillion-plus-one kaiju in anime.

Why couldn't Godzilland be a legit slice of life show instead of a dumb educational ova trash?

Godannar has the memetic beasts, and this season of shows has SSSS Gridman.

MOTW and Kaiju aren't necessarily one in the same, many super robot shows used giant monsters as weapons but I think OP wants something that integrates elements of a show like Ultraman.

Dai Guard is a pretty good anime with Kaiju Elements, the Main Characters' work uniforms look like the SSSP from Ultraman 1966.
