Supposedly most of them besides Miyazaki obviously have left. At least we have Daemon x Machina to look forward to, it looks pretty cool so far and should scratch that itch. I wish someone would make a more classic style spiritual successor though since they all seem to lean more towards the 4A style.

3 and Silent Line. The gimmick missions aren't too bad, there's a nice mix of MTs and enemy ACs in missions, they have the best indoor missions in the series and the few missions where you're fighting alongside multiple other Ravens feel great.
The downside is nothing in the early missions ever feels threatening but that's a problem that 4th gen shares as well.

AC fans are so game-deprived that they'd flock to it instantly, quality of the previews be damned. Soulsfags will come because of that "muh From Software genius" mentality. General audiences will come in because the premise would be inherently interesting.

Not gonna lie though: I'd seriously appreciate it if a YouTuber like Vaati did lore videos for AC. His voice wouldn't fit too well but at least it'd be nice to see AC lore videos.

Who else is hoping that this series steers away from ACV and VD? For all the good things they had, altogether they weren't really the best direction for AC. Poor framerates, terrible online netcode, horrible online-only content, DLC, even more imbalanced weapons, a cringeworthy plot about muh depressed womyn who needed to talk about their feelings (and having Tara Strong shoved in, no less. where's the shame?) Literally the best things that came from those two games were:

>Fatman
>the chief
>Ultimate weapons

Literally everything else could be tossed.
>>
>>17052183
>a cringeworthy plot about muh depressed womyn who needed to talk about their feelings (and having Tara Strong shoved in, no less. where's the shame?)

Who gives a shit
>>
>>17052185
EXACTLY. The series was better off when you were just a merc who shot stuff for money. It didn't need this overarching plot about a chosen one and a "dark raven".
>>
>>17052186
What I meant was 'who gives a shit about who is in it'? FromSoftware was never known for profound storytelling. It's giant stompy robits fighting in a shitty world.
>>
>>17052183
Things I liked in V
>smaller ACs
>great, long ass missions
>weapon switch (although no back wps is bad)
That's it.
The english voice acting was so fucking abysmal and embarrassing I just skipped every cinematics, so I couldn't tell you about the plot.
I never got VD because I know I'll hate it
>>
>>17052189
You get my point perfectly, I see. I could stomach even Tara Strong as long as From remembers their roots, and focuses on stompy bois killing slightly smaller mecha bois.
>>
I would keep kicking from V as well, we need more melee options
>>

>The english voice acting was so fucking abysmal and embarrassing
Chief was fantastic though. I wish we had more of him.

Soul's popularity to fade away. Even their spiritual successor to Tenchu plays more like Souls than it does Tenchu because From is nothing but the Souls company now.
>>
>>17052424
Play the Batman Arkham games, the same voice actor does Riddler in all of them and kills it. He also plays Kotetsu in the Tiger and Bunny dub.

I think you misunderstood VD's plot. You just happened to be really good, and the character you played in V became something of a mythical figure as the exact facts became lost to history. The AI from the Foundation didn't want a repeat of that, so it targeted you in VD.

You stupid fucking mong. Maggy's depression about not being able to pilot an AC again mirrors our current situation of not having a new AC to play. It's resonated so much with the Japanese fanbase it's become the biggest AC meme. Armored Core is the place where our souls belong. We would relish the chance to pilot an AC again no matter what we have to do. Magnolia Curtis is LITERALLY /our girl/.
>>
>>17052701
Regardless of the plot, 5th gen generally lacks the game functionality of being a mercenary in the single player campaign. It's both extremely limited and not reminiscent of the experience expected from an Armored Core game, which is why it was received poorly.
>>
>>17052701
A lot of people seemed to have misunderstood VD's plot. Only the Japs really understood. I wonder what that says about us.

Just bought For Answer for 5 euros yesterday (Xbox360 version) and I really like it, are the ones from psx worth the time?
>>
>>17052850
All of them have pros and cons. V and VD are the hardest to get into given that they have the most advanced, hard to learn movement mechanics and extra autistic defense mechanics. They also took a departure from standard AC mecha design, and were designed with MP in mind instead of SP. Start with 1, 3, 4, or V if you care about plot, start with anything after Nexus if you can't stand the idea of aiming/moving without analog sticks. If you don't have a PS2, you can emulate the playstation portable games very easily. They're the same mechanically, just graphically downgraded.
>>
>>17052885
4 and FA are radically different from the AC games before it so you may as well try them out.

>>17052917
All of them.
>>
>>17052917
All of them. AC1 and PP are very short, and Master of Arena is one of the best games in the series with a LOT of extra content.
>>
>>17052903
Leave the 4th series for last if you're planing to play the PS1/2 ones, going from AC4 to even AC3 is going to be super brutal, especially when only the last 2 PS2 entries actually started to use both sticks.

I would be down for an AC game that is more exploration-based like Dark Souls that lets us take our AC out into a world like Layered and have missions offered to us as we discover more points of interest for the companies. Like if you find a new entrance to an undiscovered set of tunnels, you suddenly get emailed offers from each company to search them, or to kill the Ravens the other companies hired to search them, or to just destroy the entrance so nobody could have them. A more organic flow to the game structure.

I think a bigger focus on environmental atmosphere and exploration, finding hidden parts and pieces of the story, and the customization and PVP of Arena matches would be plenty to grab the Souls audience and would give AC fans something new to chew on.

Plus Bloodborne shows that the Souls fans are not opposed to faster paced combat, just to console exclusivity
>>
>>17053473
I would honestly love that. Pure mission based design has to go, FromSoft clearly knows better today, but don't remove them altogether. They could instead be the equivalent of rpg dungeons you access from a bigger roaming map.
I want to see ACs in bigger, longer operations you can find by flying around in a dynamic map in which async multiplayer is activated. Dark Soul style multiplayer with invasion and shit would be perfect for a game as niche as AC (in the west)

Basically roam around a big and dangerous open map to find AC parts/weapons/money and kill MTs that are in the way of the ""dungeon"" entrance > rejoin ""dungeons"" you managed to find which are your usual AC missions > the mission finish with a duel against ACs or Arms Forts and they get the iconic souls boss gauge
The corps are the covenants (obviously). It just works.

Give it Gen4 speed and control with Vgen's flight and weapons and gen 3 FCS/build depth and voila, you have an amazing AC game that could get traction among normalfags
>>
>>17053593
I don't think a pure open world is the way to go, I would rather have a "hub" Garage that you can take a transport truck, plane or helicopter from to a premade area like in Demons Souls

A really wide area
I'd take the approach used in V and expand it. Drop the player in a wide map and give them a general goal with plenty of ways to accomplish it, and pitstops where they can customize their ac.
Something like "raven get inside the enemy base and destroy its generators" and we drop the player in the middle of the desert. From there the player needs to scout out the base and search for ways to get inside. They could maybe blast their way through enemy patrols and force their way in, or they could climb a mountain and then use it as a jumping point to land on top of the base, or maybe if the player looks hard enough they could find a secret tunnel

Just started Silent Line and it's the peak so far. With the exception of 2, which I just couldn't get into, this series improves game after game

Maybe you're not delusional but you're certainly a retard if that's what you took away from that post.
>>
>>17055271
No it still wasn't good after the patch and even if it was by that time it was too little too late because the game couldn't bring in anyone new and people already put it on blast because of the crap release as seen in the steep decline of people that picked up Verdict Day. If the mechanics were solid people would still be playing it to this day regularly as a sleeper cult hit, which they're not and don't blame it on it's not being supported by the devs. Metal Gear Online 2 got resurrected by it's community because they loved the gameplay. Verdict Day's servers are still up and you can barely get a match on it unless you schedule it with another player. Face it, the mechanics are fundamentally flawed, good idea poor execution. It's fine to like a game, but defend it for the right reasons.
>>
>>17055399

The game... is a fucking DPS race. The only thing that matters is how much damage you do in the shortest amount of time to win. Sure movement and positioning has a factor, but it's still outclassed by builds that favor high DPS on high damage weapons. The rock paper scissor defenses are broken because they limit the speed of the build because they're fucking tied to weight class for some fucking reason. Scan mode shouldn't have been a requirement to fucking move properly. The list goes on and I'm tired of saying this to people till I'm blue in the face. You guys seem to not be able to imagine this game beyond what it currently is.

I'm not gonna bother defending V of all things, but this is wrong, one of the most fun I had with the game was to reckt people with stagger light builds. You could also trap people with install kill stakes, snipe shit before anyone else reach your team, etc
It's much less about DPS than older gen ACs, it's the AC game that reward good strategy and positioning the most, by far

Fucking based.
This is good because you can't get away with easily killing enemy Nexts with just your normal AC made for missions/killing MTs like I could in AC3/SL or V, you have to choose
So I'm liking the PA mechanic (and it's fucking beautiful in action). It's also making choosing generators much more difficult when you have to their KP output into account as well, since the one with the highest EN output as shit KP output, etc

One of the strongest builds in VD (especially in 1v1) is approximately the lowest DPS in the game, you fucking retard. The standard merc team meta was still rifles, which are still pretty much in the absolute middle of the DPS spectrum but were chosen because they don't get hard countered or fucked by map selection.

How would you rate 2/AA?
>>
I saw this in another thread, so I figured I'd ask here:

What WAS the intention of the Controller in AC3? And what purpose did IBIS serve in Silent Line? Their directives seem to contradict. If they existed to make humans want to rebel against a controlling overlord and not just be content, why did they nearly murder their entire population? And why did IBIS actually succeed? You'd think they would've dialed it back before causing a major human extinction.
>>
>>17057611
I assumed the controller was actually just malfunctioning and that humanity wasn't meant to reach the surface. Just looj at what happens in Nexus. Clearly it would have been better to stay underground
>>
>>17057611
>If they existed to make humans want to rebel against a controlling overlord and not just be content, why did they nearly murder their entire population?
It didn't even come close to annihilating the population. The Controller just took increasingly drastic measures to make the population revel against it because the leading corporations were willing to accept their destruction at the hands of The Controller.

IBIS' own Layered society wasn't ready for the surface yet and they weren't driven to extinction. It's programmed to fight against the first Layered to test their capabilities before entrusting its population to the new surface society.
>>
>>17057814
When is an A.I. in Armored Core ever malfunctioning?
>>
>>17057814
>I assumed the controller was actually just malfunctioning
The Controller knew exactly what it was doing, it was a massive supercomputer with multiple nodes and all kinds of safety measures in order to keep its main directives intact.
Its primary objective was the preservation of Layered's humans, which meant not letting them go onto the surface since mankind can't be trusted when left on its own,
You end up destroying it because a lot of people are tired of staying canned up inside Layered and want to disrupt the status quo for multiple reasons depending on their affiliation, the Controller was pretty much a janitor, and just like a janitor it also fought back against the people who went against its directives.

As for IBIS, its purpose was the same, but it took a different route, after 3's Layered broke down and humans began to roam the surface again it wanted to see whether it was finally time to go back to the surface, and if there was somebody out there strong enough to lead and protect other humans, which is why it begins to infiltrate various powerstations and bombard the surface with orbital cannons.
Neither of those were malicious, the difference between the two is that the Controller didn't have sufficient evidence for humans being ready to abandon Layered and IBIS needed further evidence.

>>
>>17055450
actually most of the dps guns suck ass now and your problem probably was that you expected to be fine just trigger holding and got destroyed. if dps was all it took, everybody would be sitting on a team of 4 tanks. the only places where that may happen is the one really shitty map that's basically just a flat surface without cover to utilize. most good setups are much more about burst damage, especially when compared to what most pre 4th gen matches devolve into - boost hopping and holding triggers.
weight classes being tied to defenses is fine because golly, imagine this, you can have core, arms and head that balance out your legs defenses. you dont need to build the way retarded npc enemies are built. yes, you will have to make sacrifices and be vulnerable to certain guns depending on what you use. no, it's not a case of triple defense system-based rock paper scissors unless you build like a moron.
lastly, "defenses limit the speed of the build and that is bad" sounds incredibly fucking stupid. are you saying that how tanky you are shouldnt be correlated to your speed in any way?
the only leg class that got fucked were hrjs, cause they got nerfbatted to fuck.
>>
>>17063969

>>17063988
I think what's he saying is that you still have to build your AC depending on the defense balance instead of just the parts' performance alone like we used to before, and it's true that it's annoying. iirc you couldn't do a pure light build that's focused on EN defense, for example (or even balanced defenses)
What should have been done instead:
>1 AP value for parts like usual
>1 overall defense values per parts, let's call them Defense Points
>You assign defense types FREELY for the entire build, the combined overall Defense Points can be assigned to any type of defenses you prefer, so heavier builds can use more points to get more defenses
There, I just fixed gen 5 a little bit.

>>
>>17064191
>you couldn't do a pure light build that's focused on EN defense, for example
The weapons are designed and balanced around that too though. Like fatso doesn't instantly die to ultra burst weapons like laser rifles and lights don't get completely shredded by low power machinegun or ranged shotgun spray fire. If someone gets in on you with short range EN weapons or lands that Karasawa shot on a lightweight that's wall kicking all over the place at sanic speed they deserve to get all that damage and if heavyweights were stacking KE you wouldn't even have enough ammo to kill them.
>>
Also an important factor in ACV is because scouting for enemy armour types is huge (SCAN MODO) they made a point of correlating AC silhouettes with defense types.
>>

I've been reading up on the ending of 4fa (I've only played 4 but wanted to see how everything turned out) and, if I'm reading this right, the implication of Otsdarva being Thermidor is that both the League Path and the ORCA path end the same way - with the Cradles getting blown out of the sky, and ORCA was only being used as a fall guy by the League so that they had someone to pin the deaths on. So the only path that actually changes anything is the Destruction path?

Am I reading too much into this?
>>
>>17064807
Nah, you've pretty much got the gist of things, except that the League path ends with the Cradles not getting blown out of the sky because (You) and Wynne derail the plan. It's very likely that even in that ending that the Cradles will eventually be grounded, though.
>>
>>17048639
This picture looks very Kawamori ish
>>
>>17064790
PS2
That's the better version right?
Does it emulate okay?

>>17064807
Depends on how you interpret the limited information given.
I always assumed that the League path ends with them just postponing the closed plan
Orca path ends with the closed plan kicking off immediately
The difference between the two is how long it takes for humanity to get into space and how much is left for the people on Earth to clean up

Destruction path ends with everyone dying sure but I always imagined that it ended with the rich escaping Earth just to get out of Strayeds crosshairs
>>
>>17064816
Destruction Path Strayed most likely lacks the logistic support to continue his rampage for very long, anyway, so he was likely killed before he could kill everyone.
>>
>>17064812
Ah, okay I was wondering what would happen if the League didn't have ORCA to actually crash the Cradles.
>>17064816
That was going to be next question. I wasn't quite sure what implications of the Destruction path had given that Strayed decided to actually eliminate the Cradles personally, and how that was different than any of the other endings barring a few more dead Lynx in the pile.
>>
>>17064816
>That's the better version right?
PSP has more parts and arena fights.
>>
>>17064833
The difference is that not everyone on the Cradles is going to die in the ORCA path, only the sickly who can't handle the Kojima contamination on the surface. It will still result in a large number of deaths, but cutting the power to the Cradles and forcing them to make an emergency landing is a much more humane method than just blowing them out of the sky.
>>
>>17064829
Strayed could easily intimidate mechanics and ammo resupply, or just run laser blades. He's implied to be so good in that ending that he wouldn't even really need repairs now that all the good Lynx are out of the picture, and a single NEXT could easily bring down all of the Cradles with a permaflight build.
>>17064833
I think the Closed plan would lead to a more "fail gracefully" Cradles falling scenario, whereas having all of your engines destroyed brings you down with way more casualties. Regardless, people eventually fucked off into space, given that we see launch towers housing 4th gen tech in VD.
>>
>>17064838
but crappier controls
PPSSPP makes it sorta better though if you key
bind it right.
>>
>>17064845
Those mechanics could also sabotage Strayed, and outside of gameplay mechanics, even laser blades aren't going to last forever before they become useless because of a lack of maintenance. Strayed's Lynx is also a fleshbag which means he's got to eat and sleep, which leaves him vulnerable. Strayed may be a one man army, but he's still just one man.
>>
>>17064833
They all likely lead into 5th gen.
>league path
Kojima radiation everywhere, cradle system collapses, the rich escape
>orca path
The corporations escape and the poor are left to fend for themselves. Earth gets even more messed up after they leave behind kojima radiation from shooting out the assault cells
>desturction path
Strayed shoots down all the cradles, the rich all either escape or die trying, and Strayed soaks the earth in kojima particles, creating the pollution in V

unless you're talking about the dark times of UGH/10 gattling guns on HRJ, the game takes more amount of skill compared to previous games since you need to use terrains. ACV is superior to ACVD, the only problem was the generator regen and access to TE weapons.

ACVD fucking turned the TE damage race up to eleven and funny people start to run high cap generator on shoot plasma balls on permaflight AC. ACVD is far worse, though generator regen was buffed, this led people go for burst damage with pilebunkers on lightweight (that needs skills but incredibly oneshot bullshit) and 4shot sawa on float peek-a-boo build that shits you 30k damage from 1k range.

But there is always a counterplay, and prepare your team to deal with certain popular builds. LRJ sniper builds, KE missile builds, pulseguns. Brainlets in EN server didn't face stupid shit in JP, so they think their dual Tansy rifle and missiles can provide the same winning possibilities in every game.

Diversity build exists in ACV/ACVD. You just didn't adapt to what people tend to go for. The real problem with ACVD was the fucking framerate, and the map design. Fuck the snow map where everyone can take potshots from miles away.

Now go back to ACFA and play lagblading P2P connection all day long chump.

Or play the older titles in "tourneys" consisting turnrate fiestas taking potshots off your rifle, which watching paint dry might even give a better entertainment value.

Well, it's a hard game in a niche genre that's different from previous entries, was poorly handled by its publisher, and has split servers, expecting it to be alive on the non-nippon servers would be delusional.

Once again I bought a hover type leg just for a 10 seconds mission

No we blame you for being the reason you're a whiny little bitch about a game that was neither dead nor unpopular.

Like literally every fucking room I can even remember playing in ACfA had Japanese players in it, that game was dead as fuck in the west too. Armored Core period is dead as fuck in the west, what does that say about all of you?
>>
>arena battle comes up against a light AC that's apparently fast
>bring small left arm handgun with insane heat damage
>poor light AC couldn't move or attack at all after a single shot of the handgun
>obviouslycouldn't evade my absolute barrage of lasers going on at the same time
Oh, so this is how you break Nexus.

handguns have always been surprisingly powerful weapons in duel settings

The cluster missiles (the one that rains bombs from above) will also shutdown AC to standstill. Radiator parts need to make a comeback.
>>
Reminder anyone that uses "manchild" is just seething. %100 of people I've met that use that term are always mad at someone for doing something they enjoy

All are as you're thinking over...

Now that 2018 is coming to a close, what is your prediction on when will AC6 be announced in 2019? Sekiro is around March so my best bet is at Sony or Activision E3.

Well yeah, it's designed with maneuverability in the air first and foremost. Fragile is super annoying to fight because he just zips around constantly.

Well new From Software VR game has tons of absolutely shameless references to new game in Bloodborne universe. But yeah pretty sure AC6 will be PS5 title. PS4 time is over.

>>17070603
get 4chanx already you peasant

>>17070628
I can't believe AC skipped a generation entirely. Fuck Soulsfags.
>>
>>17070638
Why do you blame other games? What the point in this artificial "fanbase" war? I don't see why AC has more merits than souls games. Should I start posting "Fuck ACfags" after AC6 release? Or maybe fuck ACVfags? After all only AC4 and For Answer are real AC games for real man
>>
>>17070628
Honestly, I hope so. AC5 was really late in the generation, and I'd hate to see AC6 be a latecomer as well. I'd much rather it hold off and be a PS5 title, hopefully PC as well for once.
>>
>>17070648
Because even if it's a good thing that FromSoft grew up and honestly became a better developer due to Soul's success, that series is the reason why AC is dead. Resources and time isn't infinite, and every Soulshit game developed was one less opportunity for Armored Core to come back.
So hell yes it isn't artificial, it's 100% real, AC skipped a generation due to Souls games, there's no denying this. Go ahead and say "Fuck ACfags" if you prefer soulshit no one will actually do this because everyone is fatigued from this type of gameplay, but it's very obvious that FromSoft just completely forgot about their traditions as soon they found the Soulshit money and I find it utterly pathetic. Especially when the Armored Core staff got laid off.
It would have much more beneficial for everyone if From skipped DS2 at least and made a good AC game in between say Bloodborne and DS3. Even for the soulsfags who then wouldn't have to deal with more franchise fatigue or the awful DS2

And yes fuck V even if it was very good.
>>
>>17070659
Games are clearly more expensive now tho. They made tons of them on PS3. But on PS4 we have BB ex, small Deracine VR game, Sekiro, DS3 and b-team DS2 port.
>Go ahead and say "Fuck ACfags" if you prefer soulshit
I prefer both. Also you forgot about KF. Technically KF fags have all rights to hate ACshit and soulshit
>>
>>17070659
DS2 (especially by Scholar) was fucking good, you pleb. Get some taste or git gud.

>>17070638
What generation did it skip? Unless you just meant nothing for the current shit; there's AC games on PS1 through 3.

If you want to be irrationally pissed off at someone, blame Kadokawa. They acquired From back in 2014, and afterwards that's when they started being all souls all the time.
