Is a grappling hook ever practical? I could see maybe in the jungle but what about in an urban setting?
Let’s talk about meme gear.

/meme gear general/
bring it on.

ok. Cold steel espada xl or a fucking sword?

pick one k
>>
>>42584450
I’d never trust something that big that folds desu.
>>
Why is a jungle the first thing that comes to your mind and not an urban sprawl full of high windows that were the reason the hook was invented in the first place?
>>
>>42584418
They'd be good but the weight limit sucks. I found that some bent welded rebar and a small truck wench hooked up to it does the job better. Just put the whole assembly in my backpack and it easily carries me up.
>>
>>42584471
I guess because I’m thinking tree branch forks would be perfect too. I suppose windows make a lot of sense.
>>42584481
Please post pictures.

For the love of God, pics man

With my gear I weigh 275lbs.

Without my gear I weigh 425lbs.

My gear is a jetpack.

The point is, that hook wouldnt hold a "fully grown" man with gear.

If you're a vigilante orphan trying to save a city from a clown, sure
>>
>>42584573
I’m 162lbs.
>>
You used to see /k/ommandos running around with coils of rope slung over their shoulder in action movies. Not anymore.
>>
>>42584418
What about those gay self defense things you hold in your fist that you can find on amazon

Well considering this isn't a body weight bearing grapple, yeah it could have a purpose, albeit a limited one.

Mostly these things are good for catching items you want to drag or pick up (as shown in the promo videos).

An actual weight bearing grappling hook would have limited real life use as well, you just realistically won't be climbing walls batman style to fight the joker.

Espada if it’s a skymall meme sword, sword if it’s quality historical reproduction
>>
>>42584481
>bent welded rebar
I have had bad experience with this being a weak paradigm for construction. It will be OK for general purpose use but I would not trust my ass to it.

Checking for tripwires or wire obstacle booby traps.

This manlet made a pretty good one.
>>
>>42584481
Do you mean you have an electric winch in your backpack that pulls you up the line to the grappling hook? Am I reading this correctly?
>>
>>42585753
This is what grappling hooks are used for nowadays.

Yeah there's the sickle stick that does basically the same thing but it's hard to use properly and you can't absolutely yeet it, yank the shit out of it when you do catch on something or use the line to mark a safe lane like you can with a good solid grapple.

Nobody's doing Batman bullshit and using them to rappel.
>>
Just Cause 2, anyone?
>>
>>42584481
Sounds like Desert Punk
>>
>>42584418
Have you ever seen batman? Ofcourse theyre useful
>>
>>42586361
Yes. My weight required something stronger. The backpack carries a wench and a small 12 volt battery. That was 6 years ago though. Lost a foot a few years back so adventure days are over.
>>
>>42585537
Reminds me of an episode of Deadliest Catch where one of the dudes got a hook through the face. Gruesome.
>>
>>42585595
>fuck you! I'm sweatin' my ass off draggin' your stupid fuckin' rope around!
>>
>>42586577
Yeah, we're gonna need pics at the very least if not a video, Inspector Gadget.
>>
>>42586577
I'm impressed you got a wench hooked up to a 12volt battery stuffed into a backpack. She must have been fighting something fierce.
>>
>>42586724
12 volt battery nigga she might be dead depending how you wired that shit
>>
>>42584512
>I guess because I’m thinking tree branch forks would be perfect too.
With trees, you simply toss a rope with a weighted end over the branch. Or wrap a short piece of rope around the trunk to climb it, if substantial branches are too high or absent.

>I suppose windows make a lot of sense.
Windows and walls are the only times it makes sense.
>>
>>42586756
Apparently not, bitch can drag a /k/ommando up to a second story window. Bet she has big titties too, wenches always have big titties.
>>
>>42586831
mah nigga
>>
>>42586831
If that's the case, I bet she has big, strong arms to cuddle with as well.
>>
>>42584450

>Is a grappling hook ever practical?
