why didnt they invent shotguns in the age of muskets?

>>
A blunderbuss. Could be filled with almost anything, most certainly a shotgun if u ask me
>>
>>41745306
They did tho
>>
>baby don't hurt me
>>
>>41745306
Not relevant but my wife and I just got a two year old cat from her bestfriend who is moving to the west coast. She said it was sweet, loving and all things great. My black lab and her get along great but this cat, after 3 weeks, is still a stupid little bitch that's so damn finicky. She knocks shit off of counters, scratches my feet as I walk through my living room at 6am, opens drawers and is a bitch in every sense. Let it be a lesson, don't listen to your wife, girlfriend or women in general about animals....dont do it!!
>>
>>41745306
Why did your mother smoke crack with you in the womb?

>baby don't hurt me
>>
>>41745335

>>
>>41745341
Grab cat from the skin on the back of the neck. Don't lift her from it, but just pinch and pull a little bit. In a stern tone, say "NO" and "BAD". Put her in the bathroom and close the door for 5 minutes.
>>
>>41745306
Because any smoothbore musket can function as a shotgun. Just load shot and then an overshot wad instead of a solid ball.
>>
>>41745341
Sounds like a cat desu
>>
>no more
>>
>>41745341
That's just a normal cat
>>
>>41745341
See, you're just not a cat person because I like all of those things you describe. Knocking shit off surfaces is one of the constant battles you play with your cat. You have to cat-proof. The cat attacks your feet because he wants to play. Make sure he is constantly clipped and it wont hurt. And as for drawers and cabinets, you just have to admire their ingenuity and curiosity. If none of these things are charming, then cats are not for you, because they all do these things.
>>
>>41745384
>>41745420
>>41745424
It's very easy for cats to be well behaved if you teach them to be.
Mine comes when I whistle, never goes on tables/counters, only sleeps on the part of the couch that has a blanket down, etc.
If he wants to go out, he sits down a few feet in front of you and politely meows to get your attention and then turns to look at the door.
>>
>>41745306
I mean literally you don't even needa blunderbuss as an example, british marines used to load buckshot into brown bess muskets- a musket *IS* a fucking shotgun

you can train cats? even older ones?
>>
>>41745446
What's your method for training? I've always considered a cat's will to be absolute and unchangeable.
>>
Common misconception about the blunderbuss is the bell shaped muzzle. It wasn't there to spread shot, it was a funnel for loading little shit like grape shot, chain shot, langrage, and rocks.

The more you know....
>>
>>41745482
See, that was my thought. I didn't even know you could so I'm honestly going to do some serious research on it and hopefully get some pointers from anon

Cats rock. A dog will love you no matter what. With cats, you gotta earn it with trust and being cool.

This is Knick. He's gone now, but we trained him to shit/piss either outdoors or in the toilet when it was raining hard, or too cold and snowy for him to safely go out.

Had dogs all my life, but he was the best pet I ever had. He helped me fight cancer and win, then he died of it.

Based cat. Miss ya, buddy.

>>
>>41745474
Yes, but kittens learn faster, obviously.
>>41745482
Well, for training to come when we whistle, we whistled and if they came we gave them a small piece of cheddar.
If they didn't come, or took too long to come, then they didn't receive the cheese.
As for poor behavior, like going on tables/counters or stuff like that, use this method: >>41745374
Just give them a time-out.
Cats are smarter than most people realize.
>>
dont you guys get in trouble for derailing threads around here?
>>

Mods are cowards and basment dwelling neckbeard who do this for a "living" without getting paid and living off of their mom.
>>
>>41745306
People used buck and ball all the time.
People used shot too but you have to remember most 12 gauge muskets and 20 gauge fowlers were cylinder bore, not choked, which is why we read about 2 oz loads of shot in a 20 gauge back then.
>>
>>41745306
The earliest smoothbore firearms loaded with shot were the “fowling pieces” that appeared in 16th-century Europe. In the early 17th century, the barrels were made as long as 6 feet (1.8 m) in an attempt to gain maximum accuracy.

>>41745869
>>41745894
Small amounts on rare occasions.
If you want something they'll love that you can actually feed them regularly, buy a bag of frozen sardines. On hot days, especially, they'll love it.
Sardines are top-tier food for carnivores/omnivores like us.

Cheese is chemically addictive, so it's not surprising.
>t. Guy with a cheese addiction
Sometimes we just say "fuck it" and eat half a wheel of brie for supper each, lol.
Another food that cats easily get addicted to is tuna, btw, so you should try to use it only for training the cats and special occasions.
>>
>>41745341
Those behaviors are indicative of a cat in an unfamiliar location and being stressed out.
>>
>>41745974
You'll never understand the pain and anguish of having a calm quiet home with a lab named Charlie, a beautiful and loving wife with very quiet mornings where I can reflect on my previous day as I casually sip my coffee and watch the 6am news, just have it thrown in the trash by an evil, satanic cat that disrupts all 86,400 seconds of my life. If anyone lives in the Mecklenburg area of NC area and want a cat, let me know. I'll tell my wife it escaped to go be in the wilderness where she longs to be, day and night, able to prey on hawks and owls.

>>
>>41745474
One of the issues she’s dealing with is, she’s way overweight. Fat cats don’t feel well, they know something is off, and they can act like little furry assholes because of it. If you’re feeding dry food, use a premium brand and feed a measured amount twice daily. Mine get a half cup. Anything left when they walk away goes to the dog. Cats don’t need to have food constantly available, especially dry food. The carbs in dry food raise hell with their liver, kidneys, urinary tract, and can lead to feline diabetes.

If you don’t feel like shelling out $45 for a 12 pound bag of dry food, go with canned food. Friskies pate will do the job, and is reputable. Feed 2 cans a day, the dog still gets the leftovers. You can pick up a 32 can case at Tractor Supply for about $17.50. I alternate between the seafood and the poultry, to even out the micronutrients.

Don’t cheap out on food, it’ll cost more in vet bills in the not too distant future. Avoid any dry foods that list plant proteins as the first ingredients. Cats can’t digest those proteins very well, so they eat more to stop being hungry, and put on the weight from the carbs and other bulk filler. The only 2 brands of dry that I’ll feed are Nulo and Orijen. They’re both expensive as fuck, but I don’t need to feed as much per day so the cost averages out.
>>
>>41746818
Honestly a lot of that is the same for human food. Our digestive systems are closer to theirs than cows.

>>41745618

Same here. It was weird. Granted, this was also a cat that was caught drinking from an open can of paint. Her tastes were unconventional at the very least.

>hey kid, I’ll givya five bucks to cut my yard
And watch the accent on the givya. It’s pronounced “gi-YA” or “giv-YUH”, NOT “givvy-A”.
>>
>>41746818
He shouldn't be letting the dog eat the cat's leftovers. Aside from the potential overfeeding issues, cat food has way too much protein and risks setting up conflicts between the cat and the dog.
>>
>>41747026
What about the taurine levels? Cats require large doses of that to not go blind and die. Wouldn't be surprised if that was harmful for dogs.

I’ve never had a problem between any of my dogs and cats. They have separate feeding areas, and the dogs know that they’re getting a treat. The amount of cat food remaining usually isn’t enough to cause digestive issues for the dog. I lean in the direction of border collie and shelty breeds (mixes, not pedigree) because they’re the best at herding cats.
>>
>>41747044
Dogs need taurine, too. Depending on size, anywhere from 1/2 to 1-1/2 grams per day. Taurine deficiency in dogs can lead to heart problems.

I think people who like cats are generally people who understand what it's like to be alone. Most /k/ommandos are withdrawn, mistrusting people, who have to deal with being stranged and mistrusted themselves, as being a gun enthusiast can make you. Anyone who's had lonely moments in their lives, who appreciates distance and freedom will look at cats less as the asshole standoffish alternative to dogs and more as an animal living it's life like you do. You don't get a cat because you need one, because you actively go and grab a pet that does the most for you. Cats just end up being around you and developing a kind of coexistence based more on respect than dependence.
