Do you think MREs can have a demoralizing effect?
>>
For a few weeks, then like everything else the contempt that comes with familiarization sets in and falls in with the rest of your apathetic tendencies.
>>
>>40884951
Lack of items or poor quality of items included can be demoralizing, yes. The Marine Corps would crumble overnight if they removed jalepeno cheese spread and complimentary crayon.
>>
>>40884951

>>

>>
>>40885257
Yeah, but contempt also has the negative connotation of disliking something. Think of the proverb "Familiarity breeds contempt"
>extensive knowledge of or close association with someone or something leads to a loss of respect for them or it.
Why are humans such dickheads to the ones we love the most? The people we see the most often? Family members? Because familiarity breeds contempt. Now, I think that's the opposite of what you/he was trying to say. You/he was trying to say:
>Do you think MREs can have a demoralizing effect?
"Maybe for a few weeks, but then you get used to it." and that's all he/you could've said, but you/he had to bring contempt into it, which I believe goes against the point he/you was trying to make. Now, upon further inspection "apathetic tendencies" works, I guess? But still it feels (in my humble opinion) like a stretch/pretentious. Like he/you wants people to see he/you use big boy words.
>>
>>40885090
I've heard a lot about the vomlet, but what's the deal with the enchilada?

>>
>>40884951
Bro, you're going about your MRE's totally wrong. Every bag is a new recipe in the making, waiting for your savory senses to wake the newest dish. Trade shit to your friends, make shit, and remember/write down the best recipes. I was one of the only ones to be disappointed when the cheese/veggie omlette was discontinued. It was delicious when you heated the whole thing up, added in some cheeze-its, cheese spread, crackers, and some hot sauce. It was fucking delicious. My favorite was the meatball marinara with the cheeze-its, pizza spice, and cheese all melted into one big mess. Bro, you're doing MREs all wrong.

Im surprised how few people in tgis thread have been able ti rewire tgeir brains like you have. I dis it to, live MREs IMPs and everything in between, just gotta use heat and your brain. I swear people who get disappointed eating two cold entrees at nigbt with no heat and no hot sauce, not consuming any of the items with fiber, and then being disappointed when toy shit out coal and blood. Every time I eat mres I enjoy them. But ill consume crackers and peanut butter when im busy so I can take a minute to a deacent warm meal when I get a minute. Then I wrap that fuking badboy in the heater, inside the entree box, inside a sustainment pouch on my rucl or anywhere well insulated. Veggie burger with a spare cheese spread. It's only worth it if you have the downtime to put it all together, but it was the best MRE, hands-down.

Although, I did a training cycle at Ft Polk around '12 or so, and somehow my unit was flush with spare Kosher meals. Yes. I would rather have radiation stabilized tubes of apple sauce with mineral and protein enrichment than to eat that.
By the way, why the fuck aren't we sterilizing MRE's with radiation? (yes I know that it is only a mild improvement over traditional pasteurization)
Also, why aren't we just putting freeze dried pizza into MRE's and then just including a special 'hot beverage' bag with a pizza fill-line for dehydrating? Don't give me that "you would need water" excuse, MRE's assume you already have water; in-fact they assume you have enough water to water some. And, eating beverage powders dry and cereals/muesli is just as unpleasant as eating dry freeze dried pizza would be. Just supplement it with a wet dessert or side.

Nobody expects you to live off MREs. You get cooked food at the DFAC.

Btw everyone complaining of constipation, drinking water does very little. The water is to counter the fuckhigh amounts of sodium in each meal. You get backed up because the MREs have no fiber in them. Read the nutritional value and the back of each packet and you'll realize you get less then 10% of what you need. And almost all of it is in the crackers. Drink metamucil and you'll have no problem.
>>
>>40901103
the entire point is to not shit. you need to be plugged up because high chance you're gonna be in an area where you don't want to be caught with your pants down literally.

How was the bag nasty?

None of the packaged stuff looks suspect obviously, but the caption for this pictures says "breakfast sandwiches", and I have no idea what lurks beneath that tinfoil.

Because the end result is an awful soggy mess that would make those shitty prison/school cafeteria "pizzas" look like luxury.

They're pretty moralizing for me.
>a few years ago back when I was in highschool
>too lazy to make sandwiches
>best friend is in army cadets and gets tons of free mres
>in exchange for lending him my notes when he skipped, he gave me 1 mre a day
>basically ate mres every day for 2 years straight
>still buy MREs as a treat even now

I've bought and eaten british, german and US mres while hunting.
And I got demoralized by the portion sizes in most cases, havent had anything I could describe as bad tasting so far.
>Then again I am 6'3, 250lbs of unfit fatass,
I felt as if the MRE portions were barely enough to get me energized enough to the next meal, and I was just hunting and fishing, nothing as physically taxing as what soldiers go trough.
And if I caught fish, I usually had that on top of the MRE portions.

But if I packed enough food to keep my hunger 100% satisfied, I would be even more demoralized by all the extra weight/volume I would have to carry.
The thought of carrying anything extra seems manageable at first, but after a day or two of trekking it becomes a larger issue than anticipated.

theyre moralizing especially when they gave us these FSR's mid-deployment in 09 to afghaniland in lieu of regular ass mres. We did talk about them for a few days ain't gonna lie....anything to get the troops to get their mind off the mental rut that war becomes

In around 1900s to 1970s Combat rations have significant demoralizing effect.
As for MREs not very much some are good and some are below average.
Note: Unless one of Combat ration is all sugary stuffs then you're in luck.

Am I the only one who genuinely enjoys MREs? Whenever going innawoods in winter for some LARP faggotry / SHTF practice I bring a meal, usually the manwich, and theyre good as hell imo. Im sure if youre out on the field they taste like heaven or at least "nice."

I was mistaken. Clickable reply links was one of the first changes Snacks made to the site along with Image replies in 2004

>August 15 - 4chan changes its board software to a "super-hacked" version of Futallaby coded mostly by W.T. Snacks. It contains many new features such as replying with an image, hiding posts, the Name and E-mail fields, displaying image names and sizes, and linking to other posts by adding a >> next to the post number. Tripcodes were also added to /f/.

So accurate. In the military, especially infantry, you develop a bored sort of contempt for pretty much everything. MREs, rucks, staff NCOs, officers, non-infantry, having to do literally anything...the list goes on

I work at a place where we keep people and their diets consist of mainly rice and beans with lettuce and dressing and rando mystery meat or fish for weeks on end. Nothing is salted but salt is provided
Salt becomes a luxury and bartering item by the end of the month. Before next delivery. I've had yhr food gor about a week straight as we are alowed to eat free.
It really made me rethink my preps and winded up adding canned meats, veg seeds and tons of dry and sealed spices and oils.
When you see someone get beaten senseless over a pinch of salt the psychological effects of monotony are hilarious
