Pic related is my only AR and I’m waiting on the stamp.I want something to go with it that isn’t an NFA item. Should I get a pinned 14.5” AR-15 or a 16” battle rifle instead? The 5.56 rifle would be a LMT MRP and the other would be a FN SCAR 17s. Trying to keep my collection small so my only rifles would be the MK18, a 10/22, 6.5CM bolt action, and one of these 2.tl;dr what to pair with 5.56 SBR: 14.5” AR-15 or 16” battle rifle?
>>40564572seeing as you already have an ar-15 in 5.56 that fills a similar role to that which another AR would fill, I would just go with a battle rifle. It may be worth considering a slightly longer barrel though.
>>40564572You are a living meme. holy shit
>>40564572Pinned 14.5 is a fuckhueg pain in the ass. You are stuck with the rifle configured as is. I once broke an oop handguard on a 14.5, so I couldn't get a replacement and had to grind off a $75 muzzle device. If you already have an SBR, why not a 20"?
>>40564717>why not a 20"?because he's not some boomer faggot. barrel length is over rated. 90% of engagements occur sub 300yds where that extra 10 inches is meaningless. >>40564572get a 16-18" 308
>>40564781>90% of engagements occur sub 300yds where that extra 10 inches is meaningless. Even at longer ranges that extra barrel length is meaningless. 16" gets you within 150FPS of 20" with most ammo. What does matter is rifle length gas, but that is also an option with 18".That said, I have a 20" because it's fun and fuck you.
>>40564717LMT MRP has quick change barrels. 2 screws and the barrel comes out
>>40564781What's the barrel length to go for then? The shortest while still being able to make threats DRT with everything from the latest memerounds to the shittiest 55 grain FMJ?
>>40564593By having a well rounded collection?
>>40564572Go with a 16 inch BR. the the .308 will be able to penetrate the Armor they are wearing and the guy behind them. 556 is only really useful to wound the enemy cause it tumbles through them. While the .308 is designed to kill a person no matter where you hit them.
308 is fun and so is the scar. I'd try to find one in person and see if you want it over an ar10 type
20" AR would pair well with an SBR, but you can't go wrong with battlerifles. If you're a hardcore memer, you'll end up with everything you want eventually anyway.
>>40564781>engagementsWhere the fuck do you think you are? Syria?
I don't want to make a new thread for this so I'm going to ask it here. What would be an ideal twist rate for a 20" barrel? 1:8 or 1:9. I read some where that the military used a 1:14 but i don't see those as much as 1:9
>>4056457220" Ranch dressing rifle
>>40566436>308 fmj>penetrating armorlaughing anime girls.jpg
>>40568641Just buy a good barrel and you're fine
308 is really18" minimum but 16" works alright if you buy into the "intermediate calibers don't make sense in semi-auto" doctrine and admit you'd never hit anything that far out anyways.Intermediate calibers don't make sense in semi-auto, by the way.
>>40568641it depends on the ammo you expect to use. the heavier you expect, the faster the twist. 1:7 is alright for common 55 grain but will spin lighter <50 grain bullets too fast, causing them to tumble or fall apart midair. 1:8 and 1:9 are compromise twists for people that shoot everything, but just go with 1:7 and avoid snowflake ammo.
What's the point of getting a 14.5" barrel if you still have to pin/weld on a 1.5" flash hider? Why not just get a 16"?
>>40568971Because then the 16" is 1.5" longer and you can't be a room clearing CQB operator that operates operationally while also being too poor for a tavor
Where my 20 Inch boys at?
>>40568971Shorter overall length and looks. 16” barrel with muzzle device will be at least 17” long and 14.5” is what’s used on M4’s
Sad how a brace manages to look better than their stocks
