For primary attributes?
In E+, by getting money and investing that money into countless magic shops, hoping for potential potions, then blessing those. Also by collecting materials from every relevant resource location to make more potential potions with alchemy, eventually.
In OO, with god blessed food and buns.

For skills? You're never really over it.
But it becomes a lot easier once you have skills built up to the point where you can easily do all local jobs in towns.
Also once you get into high end dungeons and get greatly rewarded with platinum and decently rewarded with small metals.
You occasionally get lucky with growth scrolls too, or buy them with small metals maybe after you're done with speed for the time being. In E+ you can bless those to raise all skill potentials by a little bit.

I wouldn't really call it hell though. Platinum/potential is one of the things that well balances the grind and makes it quite fun. Since you control the speed at which you progress. If you want to gain faster in one skill and forsake the rest, you can do that. If you want to spread it evenly between a few, you can do that.

I only have Tempest Collar because I happened to be following Lulwy at the time. And was godless for years before that.

Fetter of Earth was the plan, to slow down speed and travelling when I want to pass the date quickly. But since I can just tag with a level 1 monster to nuke speed and unequip SLB to be fairly default that doesn't seem as useful.
Green God Thorn seems pretty useful for healing/meditation, particularly while doing something non-dangerous like spamming books or partytime or something.
And Wheel of Fortune seems useful for training up Control Magic, which I have an awful level in. But I rarely use pets. And I'd also probably want to nuke casting with Magic Canceller anyway, which would take another year.
Mechanical Binder and Sasumata seem pretty useless with Knockout being a thing.

I'm using Custom-G and do have the option turned on. In a dungeon, not my house.
Once a mob has been sandbagged it just won't give any xp at all even after release. Which is how I think it works normally, but the option doesn't seem to be changing that at all.
I wanted to try and start training Martial Arts a little. At least to 100 for Clear Mind.

If it doesn't give xp even when released, then the xp you get might just be really low for that monster in particular. The xp chart here should help:

Is there any reason to a[void] the void?
I remember reading something about every level only spawning monsters once, that after that it's nothing. And that it would be better to leave that for later grinding if you miss uniques' figure/cards?
Is there any way to reset the void? That would make that first point point fairly moot I guess, if it's true in the first place.
How much grind does it skip? Like just character levels? Or attribute/skills too? Does it give platinum at all?

I'm already almost definitely overlevelled and overprepared for the story, and never actually went to the void.

The bosses only spawn once 'till they're defeated, but everything else re-spawns puppy's cave style.

Beating the bosses is exactly like beating a normal dungeon of the same level, loot chest, plat, sometimes small medals, etc.

You gain generic xp in plus based on the level of enemy defeated compared to yours, so if they're too low level you'll get a fraction of the xp of normal, but if they're high level you can gain several levels per floor.

Not really, no. I recommend going there as soon as you're strong enough to survive the first floor. There's a random boss every 5 floors, but since the void essentially never ends, there's no danger of running out. Getting unique figurines in the void is silly anyway, just get them when you first kill the unique.

When you do human transmutation 5 times you get a skill that let's you remove specific parts. Use a splitting enemy like a bubble, and sandbag it. You'll have infinite chances to get the parts.

Yeah, I still have no earthly idea how to make shades of the same color to make depth for sprites.
When fixing the long coat I just grabbed colors that were already on the coat and slapped them about until it looked somewhat decent.
I also tried to directly pull the sword colors from my OC to make it look more like the blade... but without shading it looked like a mangle lump of plastic.
The shirt and pants stand out with a single color, but not as jarringly as most of the other stuff I tried to straight up recolor.

For the pre-shaded stuff (Like adding wrapping to the Sword), you could just select the pixels you want to change (Shift click with selection tools adds to the current selection rather than replacing it) and use the [Color] menu to shift colors. [Color-Balance] and [Hue-Saturation] work pretty well.
For everything else you can either use the [Dodge / Burn Tool] to lighten and darken, or manually pick out some colors with more contrast and just wing it.

You do have undo lists, layers, and a computer file system that allows a million different versions at once.
So you can try a million different things, select what looks best, and either trash the rest or keep them for reference.

It stalls out once you get something decent for each slot. Mostly that's miracle, some godly.
Usually less than half my equipment slots are precious items. But a couple like Gloves of Vesta and Shield Tonfa are pretty much a given for a long while.

Living equipment isn't really insanely rare in + though. Just gather materials and stardust then equip make. After about 30-40 party time's worth you'll probably have at least one living weapon of the type of weapon you want. HOPEFULLY without negative attributes.

You can get the invokes on randoms. Almost every enchant can show up randomly, the exceptions being the rarity 100 enchants, like the blood rod or Stradivarius ones.

Scaling gets really weird when you go into high stat totals as well. The flat damage from strength starts to outweigh weapon dice many times over, and dex/evasion/armor skill starts to outweigh actual armor PV/DV. Everything about equipment transitions from high stats to having the multiplicative attributes.

Nope. The reason guns weren't good is they didn't have a second multiplier like 2hand, you couldn't use more than one like dual wield, they had weird range based damage (lasers ignored this), and didn't have much pierce.

Fixity anchor helps this a lot by simulating 2hand, but you're still stuck with lasers because of range weirdness, and they have a pierce of 5%. Special ammo works wonders, but you have a limited supply of it.

I don't know if cramming an endless train of corpses and bread down something's throat while it wears "can eat rotten food" and "eat from inventory" is toggled on counts as autism to you, but fire dragon child has an impressive life stat.
Gene engineer it a few times, and capture something highlevel to boost its levels, and you got something fairly durable.

Another choice pet is karata the mascot, but I haven't actually tried him. His insane bitflags probably make him one of the tankiest lads around though.

If not, necromancy can put up some decent tanks with little effort or investment.

Offhand I'd say it's a choice between Fire Dragon Child and Harpy. The dragon has metric tons of HP and gets the excellent Boost special action through evolution. Harpies are fairly unimpressive normally, but they get Super Regen through evolution, which is the perfect special action for a tank.
Probably one of the main deciding factors for you will be their innate equipment slots.

If you've already cleared the first chapter, the customizability of dragons is appealing; no slots wasted on hands if you want it to go martial arts, room for many hands if you want a Cuisinart dragon. If you're still in the first chapter and you want your tank to be able to equip weapons, dragons are out.

Extra melee attack is the nunchaku inherent bonus. The critrate is definitely good, though.
It'd work quite well as a longterm main weapon. Get it to +15, load it with magic damage, and eventually Equip Update it to a shakujo for the extra pierce% (with minimal loss in base damage) and then use a craft repair kit to max its dice out.

Is it just me or are some of the new weapons quite rare? I've seen only one Chainsaw, one Shakujo, one Nunchaku, and one scissors in the process of beating South Tyris. Is it because most enemies don't wield them?

48x48, same as the square size for the field. You could easily find that from just using the selection tool in practically any image editor. Or even from counting tiles displayed, whether it's in the sheet or in game, and doing some arithmetic.

From REALLY old images, it wasn't always 48. But I'm really glad for that change.

You just select and read the size, which is in a different place depending on the editor. There's plain marked squares to select and make sure you don't overshoot, but you can estimate from others too.
Or count the squares wide and divide total width by that. Same with height.

1.67+ removes the random aspect of it. To change the set of options for the level, you either wait for the month to pass, or strengthen it with scrolls or at an equipment shop.
If the attribute you want is further back on the rotation, and the item is not acidproof, you could degrade its strength instead; faster than passing months or strengthening it all the way around again.

New to this, though I've played a lot of similar games, I made a character using advice from the pastebin and wiki beginner's guide, but managed to get the ether disease because of being dumb and not looking at the date when traveling, and then wasn't able to win a potion of cure corruption before my chips were used up, and I wasn't strong enough to get more in a dungeon really, so I've deleted that character.
Anyway, are there any suggestions people might have that aren't in the pastebin or wiki guide? I feel I've got the hang of the basic game now but I felt it couldn't hurt to ask.

You should pick up a god at the truce grounds asap if only to start receiving faith dreams. You can easily change later.
Assuming elona+, you should grab a pot for fusion because almost anything it churns out has abnormal money values for a starting character (like putitoros, cheese and hamburgers).

As for tips for you specifically, you should invest in the magic shop (in jumps of 50x because its cheaper) until you hit at least level 150+, because cure corruptions and potion of potentials become available. Having more books and more chances to learn the return spell should also trivialize etherwind.
Also, don't waste too much time in the puppy cave. It has no material spots, no big daddies, and no boss level, which means no plat rewards and return/escape scrolls.
Even if you feel a lack of progress, all the materials you gathered can be a real gamechanger with how much money they bring in.

Most rogue-likes are boss stabbing simulators, but elona is more of a fantasy life simulator. You don't need every skill to stab Zeome, but you'll be missing out on a lot of stuff.

Really? I just went through a hundred blessed gain material scrolls and only got one Angel's Tear and not a single Sap of Yggdrasil. Getting either from them is pretty rare compared to gathering points in dungeons.

I usually make half from gathering points, and buy half from shops, and barely keep up with my gains.
But I only pot just before eating herb in herbs, and only if there's at least one stat below great or two stats below superb.

Also, it's not just one chance at one potential pot every two days. You usually go with several shops. Preferably several in your house alone, plus at least one town.

No. It should just be one of your first goals.
You can dungeon crawl to achieve that, or do town jobs. Or even farm/fish/cook/etc for money and spam shops for gain attribute scrolls to either bless or saveskip. Preferably a balanced combination of everything you find enjoyable to make the initial grind feel less grindy.

I really wouldn't delete a character over etherwind. Some of them can be annoying, but they're not really deadly.
Even if you stack ALL ether disease, you only really just die. Assuming you're playing normal difficulty, that just means losing some items and money you have on you at the time; probably nothing too valuable.

Some can be helpful early on too. Like legs into hooves for speed boost at the cost of lacking boots. Before getting seven league boots that's pretty nifty. Or clouds of rain could be helpful for early gardening.

Yes, oomsest has a command to reset feats, you can use it even without enabling wizard mode, type help in the f12 console for more infos.

I'm not sure if this works on the penalty feats, however.

You can wish for featreset to get rid of all of your feats and refund your feat points. It does include class feats, but does not include negative feats. To my knowledge there's no way to remove negative feats without cheating.

Learning every skill is a good idea in plus but in vanilla and other variants it's better not to learn skills that you don't plan to use. Whenever something adds potential to multiple skills, plus scales it up so you're never penalized for knowing lots of skills. Vanilla and most other variants give a flat amount of potential, which means each individual skill gets less as you learn more.

As an example, a blessed scroll of growth in plus adds a small amount of potential to every skill. In vanilla it adds potential to two skills. The more skills you know, the lower the odds that it'll go for your most important skills. It isn't a huge problem but it's worth considering. You could incognito into the mage's guild, even if you're in another. In plus, the guild leader sees through it, but the rest of the NPCs are peaceful doing that.
You'll also eventually get another book reserving shop in act3.

Personally, I think the Act 3 book shop is easier to get to than the mage's guild shop, unless you build your house right next to Lumiest. You'll even pass by a few food shops while warping across continents; might luck out and get an herb seed or something.

In plus/act2 you can reset guild progress in Oblivion.
Won't give anything required to get progress back, so it's not quite a refund, but it is a restart.

As a resist stick it served me really well until getting living weapons.

Was acquired within an hour or so of starting back (1.87?) from an old save file (1.4x?).
At level 30ish or something and terribad potentials all over, no investments in shops, no money. I had played that so horribly slowly. By golly, what a daunting waste of time that was. Still a better starting point than completely new file though, besides the 100+ hours on the game clock.

Are bows viable over guns in +cg, for pets in particular?
I've been getting a lot of living bows, and it seems straightforward to just slap it on my black angel, but while I've seen people put a case for guns here, I've yet to see someone defend bows.

Is it worth my black angel's time working a living bow, or should she just ignore it and use a laser gun?

In plus? Much past 50-70 casting is only good for wishes, yeah. Even then, you can get every spell except for harvest and wish to 100% even without having casting at all, with high enough spell level.

In OO there are more difficult custom spells that need higher casting skill, you can also power through some of the casting penalties like heavy armor with enough casting/spell levels, and danalin for the custom spells.

When you spare Lankata you'll find Alfred unconscious and won't talk if you talk to him. If you bash him awake and talk he'll be about to die, but Lankata arrives and uses that pile of medical supplies she's carrying to save him, then teleports them out to the shrine. Oh, also you find out she's his daughter.

When you kill Lankata you automatically take a bell from her as a trophy or something (what the fuck protagonist) and then when you talk to Alfred he recognizes the sound of the bell and wakes up, realizes you having it means you've killed his daughter, and shortly thereafter dies.

Got bored. Made a mishmash sprite sheet using all the sprite sheet using all the ones in the mods pastebin by picking which sprites I liked best for each npc. Probably will go through the loose packs now.

In what version does that work?
In Vanilla and plus having ranged weapons in the hand slot just treats them like blunt weapons. Seeing as you have Custom AI that's definitely the case. Ranged weapons have to be in the ranged slot for ranged attacks.

In OO, at least, having them in the hand slot only works while either in melee range (functioning entirely as ranged weapons upon melee attack) or as dual wielding with other ranged weapons in the ranged slot (Bows aside).
I don't think it works with more than 1 weapon in the hands slot, and I'm at least pretty sure it requires a weapon in the ranged slot to work at a distance at all.

Extra ranged attack definitely works off slot. It's a separate bonus of its own. Griffon's 2000 enchant for it is absolutely glorious for that chance.
But the ranged attack itself is still based entirely off the ranged slot weapon.

As for getting it on both hands, how do you do that again? Without making them turn to stardust.
I think it had something to do with the Dojo or Discarded Ranches. Like [G]iving them single items then coming back with another to [G]ive as well? Before pulling them out.

Garokked aurora ring with slb together makes it so sometimes it takes 6 steps for an hour to pass on the map, at my speed.
Whereas with just slb it would take only up to 4-5. And without it would be 3 at most.

Because I got a wild hair to try and make my own sheet that catered to my taste.
Hours later of going through one sprite at a time and comparing them to see which one I think is better I think I am dreaming in pixel art now.
I tried to tieba pack, but for some odd reason it set off my anti virus and malware. So instead I am 100 pages into elona uploader grabbing sprites I might use to replace things.

After I get done with uploader, where should I look next? Probably going to Pixiv, but the mod pastebin doesn't have anything else listed.

Yes, she used to be riding me but she became so strong so quickly the roles reversed, namely once Leold opened shop.

So 23 in all, she can't even hold more than 20 items but it's okay because a lot of her slots are bad anyway and riding fixes the speed loss. My strategy for the run was I'd pick up a little sister, engineer her as many good slots as I could early on, then try to roll some extra ones on top of that with mutant levels and carry her around leveling heroism/speed/survivability buffs.

It turned out to be absolutely bonkers because of a bunch of things I didn't even know about (haven't done much with pets or mutants before).

It's such a comfy setup, I walk through dungeons looking for loot and she kills everything, I don't have to worry about her getting into stupid positions or accumulating damage, then we go back to town and she refills her potentials while I read the books I found. The only real training I do is holding down buff hotkeys when their potentials start getting high.

She has 4m goddamn gold in her inventory from killing all of north/south tyris and lost irva for me. I just realized I can just go to ol-dran and have her wail on urcaguary while refilling her potentials forever. Pets are so fucking good.

Does she know weight lifting? I think that's needed to increase pet inventory space.
I think fishing and one other skill are very useful at gathering materials for potions of potential as well.

A lot of it is pretty fillery honestly. Sunbraria helm is mostly just there because bloodsucking trains healing passively. The lightsaber does nearly nothing (very rare/low power nightmare invoke that I'm not even sure gets past enemy resists, I should just suck it up and pay the 3 million to make Dragonslayer lightweight). The plate mail has a bit of useful resist. The speed ring is only +12 but fills a status resist. Other page has twin edge, a generic miracle amulet that has +355 critical chance, and a miracle neckguard solely for blind resist. I've been neglecting gear heavily and most of it hasn't changed since north tyris.

Without checking I'm almost certain I've engineered every skill onto her, she has 150 weight lifting but unfortunately pets only get 20 inventory slots no matter what, and equipment takes up slots.

I don't know about casting, but it's definitely normal rate for investing/chr. That one's incredibly easy to verify with a small amount of platinum and gold at practically any town.

It's definitely worth trying.
(Especially if you're the type to learn functions and code them into other versions; so that plus/Custom could get the few things that are great about omake branches. hitsplats pls)

Whether or not any of them are actually worth playing instead of plus is questionable though.
They're mostly just flare and flavor over vanilla. With some events, themes, and some extra functionality, but no extended story.
Usually something people go to after getting bored or fed up with plus, for whatever reasons.
Or for people who like Vanilla more than plus but completely ran out of entertainment value from that.
Or for people that believe plus is too "easy", like less grindy, due to potential platinum changes and herb in herbs.

It does have some nifty things though.
Like hitsplats, adventurers grouping and appearing in dungeons, personal towns, dungeon themes, more information ([*] target info, numbered potentials, visible luck), blacksmithing (underwhelming), etc.

Go for OO-ENhack or oomSEST if you do try them.

Alright, I started a new level 1 character in oomsest and used cheat engine to give myself 2000 luck. I couldn't tell any difference in my dodging or critical hits, and I made sure the character knew the eye of mind and greater evasion skills. If there's an effect it's either subtle to the point of meaninglessness, or it requires a certain level in those skills or something like that. I couldn't tell any difference in accuracy either. Bats were still tough to hit.

Item quality definitely seems to be affected. With 2000 luck, the majority of items in the puppy cave are great quality, and miracle quality items aren't uncommon. Item material doesn't seem to be affected, puppy cave items are still low quality materials like cloth and mica.

Trying to increase my character's luck above 2000 causes it to reset back to 2000 and eating happy apples at 2000 does nothing. Equipment like the lucky dagger and the lucky feats can push luck above 2000.
